1. Lower the age for a smear test to 20 years old

I want to get enough signatures for lowering the age to 20 years old to be eligible for a cervical cancer smear test when they notice symptoms or changes. The government and NHS have stated that you have to be 25 to be able to get checked out.

Most teenagers and women under the age of 25 are sexually active which can trigger cervical cancer. According to the screening programme, around 4,500 lives are saved every year through these interventions to prevent cancer developing. It was Jade Goody who gave me inspiration after she had cervical cancer.

Also a 23-year-old girl Mercedes Curnow from Cornwall died of cervical cancer because doctors said she was too young for a smear test, her devastated family have claimed. That is why I am wanting to petition so these deaths of young women can be prevented!

2. Young Musicians told 'NO' to playing at Reigate Festival 2011

Several young and very talented musicians that live and attend school in Reigate were very much looking forward to performing to their family, friends and the Reigate Community at this year's Festival on the 25th June 2011.

The Festival is for 'OUR' community and celebrates 'Armed Forces Day'. The Festival is organised by Reigate Events Collective, their website slogan reads 'Encouraging Community, Sporting, Visual and Performing Events'

The Festival organisers placed an advert in the Surrey Mirror asking for local performers to apply to play at the Festival. These young artists aged between 14 & 15 replied to the advert on the day it was published, they heard nothing back for over a week.

The artists, represented by a non-commercial music management business, emailed Reigate Events Collective several times and then contacted Reigate Council to ensure the artists would be selected.

I'm sure you can imagine how disappointed, rejected and upset the artists felt when they were told 'NO' by the organisers, "You are not selected". Out of the 10 artists that applied, not one was selected to play, not even for one song for 3 minutes !!

The reality is, there is 'NO' fair reason why these artists should be refused by the event organisers and local council !! The festival starts at 10:30am and ends at 7pm, why can't the organisers provide them with their moment to perform in the 8.5 hours of the Festival?

Perhaps the organisers have decided that young, talented and focused teenagers, that write and perform modern pop and rap music are not welcome to perform in our town? If you disagree with the event organiser decision, please sign the petition.

These artists write and perform the genre of music that we believe the mass majority of our community will really enjoy on the day of the Festival, whether they be young or old.

Thank you for taking the time to read our petition and if you disagree with the event organiser and local council's decision, please sign the petition.

8. Increased Awareness and Support for Younger Onset Dementia/Alzheimer's

I have decided to start this petition in favour of improving the current services available to those suffering from younger onset dementia. Many of you may not realise it is even possible to develop dementia before the age of 65, yet a family member of mine has this devastating illness at only 42.

It is hard to describe the exact feeling when first confronted with such a tragedy. Before I had seen the effects with my own eyes, I found it hard to empathise and to take into account how serious it actually was. To see a person you love in such a state, who only a few years ago had everything going for them - a wonderful family and two young children, a newly built home, a career - is dreadful and hearbreaking to say the least. We have come to accept this; these are the cards that were dealt to him. But what we shouldn't and won't accept is that there is very little assistance available to alleviate and manage this horrific situation.

People tend to accept dementia as a product of old age, but imagine having to accommodate and manage a person who is barely half way through their lives. These sufferers do not deserve to be cast aside and placed into aged care. They deserve to receive the same dignity that any middle aged person would require and expect. There is plentiful support for the physically disabled, the depressed, the addicted, the injured and the aged, so why not for this? It may be less common than other ailments, but even in it's rare state the severity and impact far outweighs the figures. For each young person who has completely lost thier identity, personality, and normal functioning, there are family members and friends struggling to come to terms with the concept; feeling woefully helpless, and failing to understand how this illness works. Too often we are faced with the questions, "What is he thinking?",'Is he suffering?", "Does he understand or acknowledge that he is ill?", "Has he forgotten me?". There is just not enough public awareness which ultimately leads to total frustration and isolation of everyone involved.

This personally affects me, and I feel that if there's nothing that can be done to fight this vicious disease, then perhaps the only thing we can do is strive to make it easier for the sufferers, families and children who's lives have been shattered by this. With dementia, the grieving process is ongoing. There is no solace and no closure; you're essentially grieving each and every day for the loss of someone who is still physically with you.

"Dementia profoundly affects the quality of life for thousands of younger Australians every day. Younger onset dementia is the term used to describe any form of dementia with onset of symptoms in people under the age of 65. It is estimated that younger onset dementia affects approximately 10,000 people in Australia today. The needs of this group are special because there is low awareness, even among health professionals, that younger people may have dementia. Due to this, there is poor access to services that provide care and social support for younger people and their carers and the condition can have a devastating impact on the person with younger onset dementia, their family, their children and their friends. People have a right to tailored dementia services regardless of age" - http://www.alzheimers.org.au/upload/YODCommunique2009.pdf

As it stands, aged-care facilities and private carers are among the only respites for younger Alzheimer's and Dementia sufferers and their families. Why should the middle aged be caught in limbo and grouped with the elderly? Why don’t tailored, specific facilities and respite centres exist for the approximate 10,000 early-onset suffers? Why should their quality of life deteriorate so completely for them and those around them, when resources could exist to improve the circumstances for everyone involved?

Please help push for better facilities, more understanding, less isolation and more funding.

13. Yang Peiyi to perform at closing ceremony of the Olympics

One had the voice and one had the looks. Performed in front of billions of people on TV, Lin Miaoke, Aged 9, lipsync’d on the Beijing Opening Ceremony and impressed millions and millions of people. She was promised with a promising carreer in the future but little did we know, she actually mouthed the words during the night.

Behind the performance there was infact another young girl aged 7 who actually sang the song but was not given credit to. She didn’t perform on the stage because she wasn’t “cute enough”.

“We had to do,” the music director said, “the reason was for the national interest, the child on camera should have flawless image and expression.” He said,” Lin Miaoke was excellent in all of those areas.”

Chinese bloggers backup the situation, “If you’re not good looking enough, no matter how well you sing, you will not be on stage, do you know you’re twisting a whole generation? If foreigners found out, they’d think we can’t even find a girl who is good at both.”

Little amazing girl, Yang Peiyi says she’s just honoured to be part of the ceremony.

Oh yea! Forgot to mention, China also faked the fireworks! Haha. I’m so ashamed of China. At first I was so proud of the country where my ancestors were from, but now, im totally ashamed of China.

Do you remember the 29 Footsteps or something? Well that wasn’t live. They recorded that digitally because they were afriad they wouldn’t be able to capture it live.

I would like to see that young girl Yang Peiyi sing at the closing ceremony, if you feel the same, please sign this petition - gah im so angry at China!

15. People against proposed graduated licencing system

The final stage in July 2008 will be the introduction of a two stage probationary licence comprising a one year P1 probationary licence, and a three year P2 probationary licence.

Passenger laws will be in effect not allowing P platers to carry a certain amount of passengers between a certain time, making transport more difficult.

The laws will also extend P plates from 3 years to 4 years, meaning that a younger driver will have to be 22 in Victoria in order to claim their full licence.

From 1 July 2007, new restrictions on driving high powered vehicles will be introduced for probationary licence drivers who obtain their licence from 1 July 2007.

From this date a probationary licence holder will not be able to drive a vehicle if it has:

* An engine of eight or more cylinders;
* a turbocharged or supercharged engine (except diesel powered vehicles);
* an engine that has been modified to increase its performance; and/or
* certain high performance six cylinder cars. An official list of nominated vehicles will be published on this website from 1 July 2007. In the interim it is expected to include the following vehicles:
o the BMW M and M3,
o Nissan 350Z,
o Porsche (all models), and
o Mercedes Benz SLK350.

16. Fire Lynn Marie Latham from "Young and the Restless"

I bring this petition to you today about a soap that is currently on CBS, “The Young and the Restless.”

Although I’ve only been watching regularly since September 2006, I have heard about what is going on through people I correspond with on the Internet, and what I’ve been hearing and seeing over this time has been disturbing and concerning me.

What once started as a ground-breaking show is now turning into something entirely unwatchable. Even viewers who have been faithful to Y&R since the 1970’s are seriously thinking, and talking openly about, abandoning this soap altogether. Complaints and ranting about this soap opera have been expressed more and more since the hiring of Lynn Marie Latham as head writer, and these viewers apparently see Ms. Latham’s writing skills for the show as questionable, at best.

It seems that Ms. Latham does not know anything about the history or character of the roles being played. She has made the characters of Gloria and Sharon especially detestable; Sharon’s promiscuous behaviour within the Newman family has made her a target for harsh ridicule among the anti-Sharon elite, and this has caused much friction among fans and foes alike, evident on any of the show’s forums on the Internet. Many viewers have not cared for her relationships with Brad or Jack. Characters also targeted included Neil and Carmen (the storyline of her trial had been carrying on for way too long, and we still have yet to see courtroom proceedings, this among many ridiculous storylines) Daniel (with his pornography storyline and lying to Lily,) Nikki (with that uninteresting Senate race storyline and adulterous affair with David Chow that will surely destroy her and Victor) and Colleen, and viewers believe that Katherine has been acting out of character, as is Jill. As it stands, the only thing that’s keeping some fans interested now is the heated romantic relationship between Sharon’s ex-husband, Nick, and his current flame, Phyllis (which seems to be her only great achievement; however, her latest crime has been to play around with this couple as to whether or not they will break-up with this crazed "amnesia" storyline of Nick's, with a possible reunion with the useless Sharon, and the introduction of the equally useless Logan.)

Ms. Latham’s decision to fire Davetta Sherwood from her role as Lily, and to replace her with Christel Khalil, has left many viewers especially angry. They believe that Ms. Sherwood is the much better actress over Ms. Khalil, and according to what I read, Ms. Khalil “jumped ship” to try other pursuits, only to find she couldn’t get an acting job anywhere else. With everyone hating her as the new Lily, this should serve as a clue. Over the holidays and the start of 2007, Ms. Latham has fired veteran writers Jack Smith and Kay Alden, as well as actress Eileen Davidson (Ashley) in January. As of April of this year, actress Victoria Rowell (Drucilla) has left the show with a horribly tragic send-off from a cliff! As of this update, it has been reported there is another backlash following the firing of Adrienne Leon (Colleen).

I believe the only way to solve these problems is to fire most of your writers, especially Ms. Latham, hire all new writers, and get a fresh re-start on this soap opera. You may want to start by trying to improve the character of Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) if possible; although Ms. Case is a fine actress in her own right, the anti-Sharon elite among viewers do not care for her character’s whining, parental negligence, and chronic need for male companionship and "pity sex." You will also have to fire Ms. Khalil and re-hire Ms. Sherwood as Lily, and think up a plan to resolve the current storylines quickly.

Thank you for your time.
