The newly-elected Premier Campbell Newman and the Queensland State Cabinet have axed the State's Premier's Literary Awards.
Newman stated that the decision to axe the popular incentive is to control Government spending.
This is a particularly sad day for the arts and writers of every ilk everywhere ...
It is the first backward step for Queensland which is a throwback to the Jo Bjelke Petersen days...

2. Hank JR induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame
Hank Williams Jr is the Pete Rose of getting into country music's hall of fame. He is the most deserving singer/songwriter not in yet. He should have been in decades ago. He is labeled an outlaw and his political views are blinding the association's vision of his true talents.
He is more deserving than half of the already inducted. I need your help to show the association that he belongs. It is not right or fair to the music world and all his fans. He has been in the business since the 50's law starting out very young after his father passed. Do this for me and all his fans. Look at his music not his views.

3. Label Me Royalty (Listen To Our Chidren's Voices)
SeeingGrowth.com is a website that challenges people of all types to find, develop, publicly present, and apply their voices as creators of positive growth.
We are looking to help create some awareness around a program they have, called Label Me Royalty. It is a written and visual tribute, to the voices of our younger generation and the reasons that they should be referred to as our future leaders.
This tribute is created by our younger generation for all generations. It is an amazing account of the feelings of younger generation, the voices of our young people, the visions of our young people, and a way for adults to assist our younger generation to reach their goals and understand the underlying issues that they are facing.
It is a quarterly series which highlights the talents and the struggles of the next generation. We think it is very important that people get to see the positive images of young people in America from their own perspective, and we think that it will help to increase positive expression from our younger generation across the country.
We are looking for adults to spread the word about this program to the youth in their lives. We're also looking to connect with any online blogs and websites that would be willing to do a feature on the program or add a link to receive more information. We think if more people knew about it, they would like it.
We think this program for the youth, and our communities, alone is powerful. We would love to get your support here.

4. Guidance on the literature made available in libraries
As an aspiring writer who looks to Shakespeare as a role model, I would consider it an honour to present this petition to the Honourable members of the Scottish Parliament with due respect.
Today as we see some of the writers across the world and in the UK, produce literature that are viable to raise roars and threats, a country which prides its freedom of expression cannot shut the doors for the writers, neither can they open doors to the extremists.
But writers who use racial discrimination and gender discrimination as their motif should be seriously punished so that no other writer does that and that the literature that the future British generation is reading, does not promote the same traits in them. If not done, this would lead to the promotion of the values which the British flag does not promote; as UK is and has been the main source of literature for the rest of the world.
What should be our stance in such a situation?
I propose that we should have a legislation passed that sees that both the writers and the readership living in the UK are not disturbed and that peace and harmony can be maintained in the UK. If we are to give our next generation quality literature to read then I believe that this petition should be the first step in doing so.
I propose the following for the petition and anticipate that the Honourable members of the Scottish Parliament will approve of the petition:
1. Freedom of speech is the basic right of every writer.
2. In case of threat, necessary arrangements must be made to ensure the protection of the life, property and career of the writer.
3. Writer involved in any genre should not commit any of the following during his or her writing, and the educational authorities and institutes should see to it that no such work be published in any form:
• Defaming the deities of any religion, including the prophets and saints of that religion and this extends to the families of the prophets and saints
• Degrades any Royal household, including all form of use of words.
• Uses any elements of discrimination in his writing
• Promotes religious hatred.
4. In the event that a writer is found involved in such activities, the following penalties may be imposed.
• Request for the imprisonment and further legal actions sent to the UK Government.
• Request for the honours to be conferred sent to the UK Government.
• Request for the financial penalties sent to the UK Government.
5. The writer must act accordingly to protect him or her being penalized by the law.
5. Objecting to abolishing traditional Chinese in UN records
The simplified Chinese (hereunder as SC) add recognition load and confusion to readers who were brought up and educated in pre-50 years. It also introduces blindness in understanding the formation of the Chinese characters, particularly in studying old days Chinese history and culture.
Being an intelectual and professional person, I was born and educated in Chine till 1957 and are aware of daily use of the SC and am qualified to comment on this matter.
6. Prevention of Influencial Neighborhood Store Closing
The residents of 17th West Oxford Street is writing this petition in reference to the closing of our neighborhood store. For the pass few years this store has served our community and created a positive environment for our community.
Having this store within our community provide a convenient and exciting outlet for their customers. If this store was to be terminated it would create a negative prospection in the community.
With signing this petition you will be supporting the remaining open and continue serve within the community.
7. Call on the UN to keep on using traditional chinese characters
The traditional chinese writing has a tracked history of over 3000 years. The simplified chinese writing does not have any logic in its formation, whereas each word of traditional chinese comes under 4 classification. The changeover of chinese character will by all means sentence the death of history.

3. Waste of PAPER - and do YOU think the markers will read in detail what you've photocopied??? They will be simply dumped as trash!
How many trees are cut down because of the assignment? This is so environmental unfriendly.

10. Ban chaotic parking by parents of Langley Grammar school pupils
We are writing to inform you that we have a big problem with chaotic parking in our road, so we are writing with a signed petition from all residents who are all in agreement with this letter.
The problem parking is caused by parents collecting children from Langley Grammar. This disturbance is occuring five days of the week between 3.00pm & 3.30pm during term time only. We have cars parked bumper to bumper both sides of the road, all residents feel very strongly that this problem must change.
We understand these children need collecting from school! But so do our children! This disturbance prevents us leaving or entering our own road, let alone parking in our road, this kind of parking is very inconsiderate/ hazardous and obstructive, this kind of parking will day obstruct emergency services entering our road and we are not prepared to wait untill that situation occoured this cannot continue, this disturbance must stop.

Dear Writers and Readers on Fanfiction.net:
I'm writing to inform you about a new rule the Webmaster of ff.net has imposed: they've forbidden us to answer the reviews. Yep, you're reading correctly. At first, it was believed that this was just a rumor, but some days ago a writer friend was punished because she answered her reviews in the chapters of the fic.
Many people think this is very unfair because that's the only way we have to communicate with our readers. It's the only way they can know we read their reviews; we read new opinions and make friends. We don't like this new rule, and we're writing to ask your help. It's very easy. We're making a list of people who are against this new prohibition.
To collaborate, you just have to add your ff.net user name and email address so that they'll be sure we haven't written up unknown names just to fill up the space.
12. Let Mrs. Raiford Be a Second Grade Teacher
Mrs. Raiford has respectfully requested to move "up" to the second grade with the class she currently has. Her request was denied, and she is very upset about the matter. The letter below was written by one of her students, Zoe Hartley. The letter certainly captures the mood and feelings of Mrs. Raiford's students, their parents, families, and other supporters.
13. Save Days And It's Characters
This is a petition to save the characters being fired on Days Of Our Lives, bring back James Reynolds as Abe Carver and get the producers to listen to the fans to save the soap from becoming extinct due to bad writing, planning and plot lines! 14. Stop Writing Contest Scams!
Poetry.com, Illiad Press, the International Library of Poetry. . . most people have heard these names, and in a negative context. What most people don't know is that these organizations are run by the same people, and they all are out to get money off of you!
I would like to close down Poetry.com and the other writing-related contest scams out there on the internet. Thousands of serious writers share their work with these organizations each year, are told their work is the best thing since Robert Frost, and asked to purchase books, plaques, CD's and do-dad's of their printed poems! For more info on this, I urge you to see the webpage below, then sign this petition so everyone knows how many people want these scams to end!
15. Inclusion of credit for Creative Writing courses as requirements for English major
This petition serves to implore you to please consider including Creative Writing courses offered in the English department here at Washington and Lee University as requirements for students wishing to major in English.
As it stands, it is simply unfair to students who wish to concentrate in this area within the major and not be able to have the credit fulfill a requirement for the major. Learning to write well is an important feature of a Washington and Lee education and a special emphasis in the English Department, where all courses involve instruction in writing. While students at Washington and Lee cannot major in writing, it would be appreciated if they could receive credit towards the major for all Creative Writing courses taken and passed at this university.
Some basic research has been undertaken regarding Washington and Lee's peer institutions and it was found that following schools not only offer credit for Creative Writing courses, but also count that credit as requirements for the major:
Vassar College, Smith College, Grinnell College, Wesleyan University, Haverford College, Davidson College, Middlebury College, Bowdoin College, Carleton College
Amherst College
In fact, Middlebury College offers "over twenty different courses a year on various aspects of creative writing: fiction, poetry, playwrighting, screenwriting, and nonfiction." And all courses & credit are counted towards the English major.
Further, "Creative writing is a valued part of the curriculum at Bowdoin."
If these highly selective, well-respected colleges accept credit for the major, why does Washington and Lee not? We, the undersigned, implore you to please reconsider your stand in this regard and to overturn the decision reached by your committee.
16. Save Robbery Homicide Division
Robbery Homicide Division is the freshest new show on television this season. It is also one of the few shows that CBS is canning. The groundbreaking drama has the terrific writing, acting, and directing that will bring viewers to the network -- if given a chance.
Tell CBS that focus groups and Nielsens don't tell the whole story. Robbery Homicide Division is a show that deserves a chance.
17. Stop Pro Anorexia Web Sites
These Web sites promote self harming and deadly behaviour and make it seem as if having anorexia is a gift. You don't see any one creating web sites like " Yay , Let's get cancer!". These Websites have pictures of anorexic girls with huge writing saying discusting things like " Anorexic Queen" and "Never too thin". These Websites basically promote people killing themselves. Not only to these sites have gross pictures they have dieting tips and ways to hide food from your parents. We say, STOP THIS !!!
We can't really live without the occassional insanity from tRUMAN. We can't let him stop!
19. Bring back the REAL Brooke English!
We faithful viewers of All My Children adamantly protest the writing for the character Brooke English.
Brooke has been most successfully portrayed as the "UnErica". Brooke was and should be a competent businesswoman, a crusading journalist, and a strong woman. She was and should remain calm when Erica is hysterical, sane when Erica is over the top. The dueling divas, Brooke and Erica, were and should remain one of the most interesting dynamics on AMC.
The Brooke character has suffered since the writers deviated from the "UnErica" formula. The downfall began with the ectopic pregnancy story, further escalated when she shot a man in the back, plummeted further with the heart transplant story, and is about to hit rock bottom by Brooke lying to her fiancée and keeping two innocent children from their mother.
We faithful viewers PROTEST! Bring back the REAL Brooke English! Pine Valley needs a strong heroine. We want our UnErica back.
