151. Reinstate bulk mailing to OPMALE!
Reinstate bulk mailing to OPMALE.
We do understand your position on bulk mailings, but find it hard to understand how opmale comes under any of those said rules. The people receiving e-mail from opmale have asked to be added to the mailings. So those mailings are not unsolicted random mailings, which we believe your rules were intended to cover. We do not believe AOL intends to halt support for our men and women in uniform, but if this is the case I'm sure many people will consider changing to another provider.
152. Women Rock
Women need to stand up for there rights. Sign this because women are the best, boys are a whole, no wait, not a story! Come on stand up for women everywhere.
153. Ban Heterosexual Marriage
The rulings of three provincial courts have effectively legalized same-sex marriage by declaring the erstwhile ban discriminatory under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Although Prime Minister Jean Chretien has drafted a bill in support of gay marriage, many backbenchers are working hard to undermine this effort in order to reserve the right of marriage strictly for heterosexuals. Gays cannot marry, according to Canada's Solicitor-General Wayne Easter, because of the difference between gays and straights: "when [straight people] get married, it's procreation." In other words, when a couple gets married for any other reason besides breeding, it ruins the whole idea of marriage for all of us.
It's clear, then, that banning homos from marriage simply does not go far enough. There are many straight people out there abusing the sanctity of the matrimonial tradition by marrying for such silly reasons as love or a desire to celebrate lifetime commitments, rather than solely to pop out babies. These people must be stopped.
We, the undersigned, demand that action be taken to preserve the dignity and tradition of marriage as an institution of procreation. Legislation must be enacted forbidding women over the childbearing age from tying the knot. Mandatory testing must be carried out to identify sterile men and barren women, ensuring that these people remain single forever. Elderly couples without offspring must have their marriages forcibly annulled.
We who are married for procreation must defend our noble institution against the pernicious threat posed by homosexuals and other non-breeders. Allowing them to marry will affect our own marriages somehow.
154. A Petition to Stop the Construction of the Chicopee Women's Jail
The Reality
· The U.S. puts more people in jail than any other nation in the world.
· From 1980 to 2000, the inmate population quadrupled to 2 million.
· Massachusetts ranks 12th in racial inequalities among people incarcerated.
· 450 children have mothers in the Ludlow jail.
· 25% of women sent to MA county jails are from Hampden County compared
to 20% from Boston-Suffolk County or 4% from Worcester.
This must end. The Springfield Harm Reduction Coalition is working to stop putting our mothers, sisters, and daughters into jail. How? By preventing the construction of the Chicopee Women's Jail, scheduled to break ground this summer ('03) at a cost of $26 million. By adding your name to this petition, you can be part of a new movement to stop throwing people into jail and start improving the conditions in our community.

155. Women INTO S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The "Women INTO STALKER"-petition was created to ask how many fans would welcome female characters in the new top game "STALKER". We hope to get them into the game with this petition.
156. NO Chains for Dogs
Many dogs are forced to endure a life of neglect, isolation and terrible extreme temperatures. Their entire life they are commited to be chained, roped or otherwise tethered outdoors, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An existence of despair, often , without benefit of adequate shelter. Barely given enough food or water, they are tied and forgotten. Tell the congressmen and women of this Commonwealth that you want a change dog laws to ban this terrible practice. Make it an enforceable crime for dog owners to "tie 'em and forget 'em". Thank you
157. Help End Female Exploitation
As part of a Women's Studies Class, I had to create a 'Liberating Action Project' - something pro-woman and liberating to educate the community. I chose to create a petition against Miller Brewing Company's "Catfight" commercial because I find it exploitative and degrading to women.
Miller Brewing Company has recently run a television commercial called, "Catfight" which features two, stereotypically beautiful women arguing the classic Miller Lite debate: "tastes great" vs. "less filling." In the commercial, the two women are arguing their sides and resultantly engage in a fight. The fight begins with one of the women throwing the other into a swimming pool where they rip each other's clothes off and wrestle around, and eventually ends up with the women in a trough of wet concrete. In some of the late night airings, one of the women actually ends the commercial by saying to the other, "Let's make out."
Commercials such as "Catfight" promote sexist thinking in our society. Those signing the petition disagree with the exploitation of female sexuality. Since it has been rumored that a similar series of commercials is planned, the names below are meant to urge Miller Brewing Company to rethink future advertisements such as "Catfight."
158. Oppose the Information Ban/Racial Privacy Initiative
Some of the successes of the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960's and 70's included the implementation of programs that sought to address the marginalization of communities of color caused by our nations racist history. For example, affirmative action programs in college admissions and public contracting essentially involved the issue of access and were designed to counter the massive discrimination found in colleges and the workplace. But unfortunately, since the 1990's there have been successful attempts to eliminate many programs that are meant to help communities of color in specific and society as a whole. And now, with the possible passage of the Information Ban/Racial Privacy Initiative, our ability to detect continuing disparities due to current and past discrimination practices is threatened. Ultimately, the Information Ban/Racial Privacy Initiative will prevent state and local governments from collecting data "by race, ethnicity, color, or national origin in the operation of public education, public contracting or public employment."
In 1995, the Regents of the University of California, pioneered by Ward Connerly, passed Standing Policies 1 and 2which banned the University of California from considering race, ethnicity, and gender in admissions, hiring and contracting. Not satisfied there, Ward Connerly then became one of the main proponents of California's Proposition 209 in 1996 which abolished all affirmative action programs in the State of California. The controversial initiative (Prop 209), which passed by a slim margin, has had devastating effects on our society.
Since the abolishment of race conscious programs in California, a series of disturbing phenomena have emerged. Our institutions of higher education, for example, are resegregating. In fact, according to a Harvard study, Black and Latina/o students are in many instances more segregated today than they were in the 1960's! Critical problems like resegregation can be detected due to the legal collection of racial data. Now imagine the effects of banning the collection of such information. The consequences can be devastating.
Furthermore, the Information Ban/Racial Privacy Initiative will greatly affect the health field. It is common knowledge among individuals in the health sciences that health related data based on race is necessary in order to adequately address the varying health related necessities of specific racial groups. For example, without racial information in the health sciences, we would not know that Vietnamese women have the highest invasive cervical cancer incidence rates of all women and that Latina women rank second highest (Coalition for an Informed California, 2002).
159. Say Yes to Womens' rights
In different countries of the world, women are supressed, by the stict unfair, and inhumane laws of the society they live in. Especially in Arabic countries!!
160. New advertisements for Trojan condoms are degrading
Many of us make use of condoms. But the latest advertising objectifies women's bodies. Let's just let them know how we feel about these ads.
161. Mandatory boxers or towel scene in every Tommy Lee Jones movie!
September 24, 2002
We, the undersigned, DEMAND a mandatory "running around in just his boxers or a just a towel" scene in every future Tommy Lee Jones movie!
Okay, maybe he's getting a little old for full frontal nudity - not that I'D complain about seeing him nekkid - but we ladies of the world should be allowed to see him at least bare-chested!!!! Please..... pretty please? :)
162. Large and in charge?
It has come to my attention that some very mis-guided, and most likely excessively obese and unattractive women have decided to infringe upon our civil rights, and insult our intelligence (see website above). Their twisted observation of the general perception of women is being wielded in an attempt smite our most fundamental rights, most namely the right to free expression. Also at stake is our freedom to choose. These obsessive bovines have decided to champion the cause to remove attractive models from advertising so they don't feel bad about their disgusting, flaccid selves whenever they open Good Housekeeping magazine. Not only is their cause inane, but also their points flawed on a deep-seated level. The entire effort is a colossal exercise in contradiction. For instance, this page from their site
http://www.about-face.org/goo/newten/1/three.html
Shows attractive women in lingerie and appears in their 'Gallery of Offenders' section. These pages:
http://www.about-face.org/gow/newten/3/eight.html
http://www.about-face.org/gow/newten/3/nine.html
show 'fuller' women in lingerie and appear in their 'Gallery of Winners' section. The difference? You guessed it, the fat chicks in underwear are not considered degrading in any way. Why? I guess because they are fat, since that is the only difference I can see. They are still chicks in underwear anyway you look at it. Chicks in lingerie say, "Come and get me" or so the enormous eyesores at about-face.com would have you believe.
So, please help in the effort to silence these overly imprudent, mis-guided, insecure, anxious, scale busters by signing the petition here. Another way is to donate food and send it to:

No doubt an abundance of edible goods will keep mouth silent, hands busy and civil rights resolutely intact. Thank you.

164. Women & Children United Against Family Violence Petition
Domestic violence is the leading cause of death and injury to women between the ages 15-44. Married women are 9 times more likely to be killed by their spouses than by a stranger. In Canada, 60% of female homicide victims are killed by their spouses. On average most women are assualted 35 times before calling the police. 1 out of 8 women, are or have been abused by their partners.
Around 70 women in Canada die each year at the hands of their male partner.
165. Say "no" to sanctions and War Against Iraq
In Iraq, infant and child mortality has doubled in the past 12 years - 1 in 5 children in south and central Iraq are chronically malnourished - Iraqi hospitals in areas heavily bombed by US and UK planes during the Gulf War are full of children dying from a cancer - epidemic and many babies are born with congenital malformations. The Iraqi national literacy rate has dropped 22% over the past 12 years There continues to be regular bombing of Iraq by the US and UK - wounding and killing Iraqi citizens.
When asked whether the death of 500,000 Iraqi children was worth the price of implementing sanctions, the US Ambassador to the UN, Madeleine Albright, said "it was worth the price". We campaign as a women-only group in order to create a space in which women, from all nationalities, feel comfortable expressing themselves and acting together. The economic sanctions which affect ordinary Iraqis must be separated from diplomatic and military sanctions against the regime War is not the way to fight terrorism on a global scale, nor is it the way to improve the plight of the Iraqi people. Opposing sanctions is not the same as supporting the Iraqi regime - Opposing sanctions is supporting the Iraqi people 'If people could hear and see what is being done in their names in Iraq, they would be outraged. But they don't, so it continues.' -- John Simpson, BBC World Affairs Editor 12 years ago Iraq was a rapidly modernising state. It had good health care and education, modern tele-communications, water treatment and electricity systems. But it also had a dictatorial, oppressive regime which the Iraqi people neither elected nor were able to remove from power. Economic, military and political sanctions were imposed when Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 - 'the most comprehensive in history' according to a US State Department official. 12 years later they are still in place. Sanctions, far from weakening the government, have helped it to keep control over an exhausted and desperate population. Saddam Hussein is still in power and is still carrying out massive human rights violations. Iraq is now one of the least developed, most damaged countries in the world. At least half a million children under 5 have died because of economic sanctions and countless others continue to suffer. Goods have been scarce, prices high and it is ordinary people who are suffering most. Disease, child mortality and malnutrition are rocketing because food, essential medicines and clean water are often unavailable or unaffordable. The UN has recently accepted a new so-called 'smart sanctions' proposal sponsored by the US and the UK. 'Smart sanctions' may allow more goods into the country, but will do nothing to increase the purchasing power of ordinary people or provide the means to reconstruct the country's shattered infrastructure. In emphasising the two most import causes of the humanitarian crisis - poverty and poor public infrastructure - Tun Myat, UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq has said: 'No matter how much you try and modify (the existing UN humanitarian programme) it is not designed for - and it will never be - a substitute for normal economic activity... I consider water and sanitation to be the biggest killer of children in this country." Without resources or spare parts, roads, power plants and sewage works, many of which were targeted in the Gulf War, remain unrepaired and have a devastating impact on the health and well-being of Iraqi people. With the decline in normal economic activity, there has been a huge increase in poverty, high unemployment and very low salaries. Many people are so poor that they have to sell part of the food ration - the only income they receive. Sanctions have also torn at the social fabric of Iraqi life, creating an increase in violent crime, divorce and prostitution. Women are risking backstreet abortions or abandoning their babies because they know they won't be able to feed them and there has been an increase in street children. Iraq has also suffered an intellectual embargo. For 12 years no educational or research materials have been allowed in and about four million Iraqis have fled, creating a terrifying brain drain. Participation in education at all levels has declined and the illiteracy rate has risen sharply. The 1991 Gulf War has left a fatal legacy of depleted uranium carried in the warheads of missiles released during the blanket bombing in the south of Iraq. It will cost a fortune to clear up and even then it will be too late for the many Iraqi children suffering from leukaemia and related cancers.
Many children are born with malformations so severe that they do not live. Several high-ranking UK officials working in the country have resigned in protest at this misguided policy. 'We are in the process of destroying an entire society. It is as simple and terrifying as that. It is illegal and immoral.' Dennis Halliday, former UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator in Iraq. And the bombing raids continue-- The US, supported by
Britain, is now threatening to extend the 'war on terrorism' to Iraq. Inevitably, any military action will result in large civilian casualties and further damage and disruption to the fragile infrastructure and food distribution systems is likely to result in a humanitarian catastrophe. It's time to stop punishing the ordinary Iraqi people. -- Act Together. Women Against Sanctions in Iraq
166. Women's Bodies, Women's Rights - Allow Us To Make Our Own Decisions
This is a petition aimed toward those women who know for a fact that child bearing is not an option for them for medical reasons, and whose bodies are being subjected to pain because the government and doctors do not want to allow women to make the choice of having their reproductive organs removed.
167. Help is needed in Pakistan.
We are serving Pakistan by our ngo THE CHAIN (Community help and intermix network) for the last two years.
We are fighting to unroot drugs cultivation and their use, pollution of environment, Illiteracy, sexual abuse to the women and children and their smuggling, Bounded labor, karo Kari (killing of women and man on illicit relation charge 98% are fake incident and only committed for revenge or acquiring land or money etc.), helping homeless, orphans, building vocational centers and preventing aids etc.
Our on going projects such as establishing minimum two medical centers in Pakistan especially for drugs addicts it is learned that 40 to 50 hundred thousands out of the 150 million population are heroine and other drugs addicts, establishing more vocational centers and upgrading of them, at this time our 25 vocational centers serving education, sewing, typing, computer education etc. on free basis.
Orphans in huge numbers are living on footpaths and grounds and in many cases they become drugs addict or drug peddler easily. If we succeeded in establishing orphanages we will provide them education vocational training too.
To the homeless people the negotiation for acquiring land are in final position. We urge to acquire land for home less people and distribute it among them free of charge and if circumstances allow us then we consider building them too.
We also eager to build orphanages in Pakistan. In this respect we are trying to acquire land for this purpose, at this time we are co-operating with other orphanages in every concern .
By our efforts the 70 families of Thar, Bahawal Pore, and Othal etc. take breath of freedom; these families are in the prison of local landlords from years. The bounded labor in Pakistan is also a big issue.
Recently flood in Rawal Pindi, Islam Abad, Dadar; Mansehra etc took at least 400 lives and living thousands injured. Millions of property destroyed. People are poor and they can't reconstruct their houses. We have provided with them, as we are able to do so. There is more need of rehabilitation work, there is need of tents, electric stoves, food articles, medicines, blankets etc. the winter start there by end of august and in some areas in first week of September in these flood affected northern areas. The river Indus is now in full swing due to continuous rain, it is moon soon (Rainy) season in theses areas. The lower send and these areas and other near by suspected another flood. So the army, police, administration and our volunteers are busying to vacate these endanger areas.
Our this year projects cost at least US$18 hundred thousands dollars or 150 million Pakistani rupees. Please help us to serve the humanity in better way.
Remember that service of mankind is the service of God. And that charity never dies.

168. Abolish the assumption of paternity law in Pennsylvania
The assumption of paternity law in Pennsylvania basically states that if a married woman has an affair and bares a child as a result of the affair then in order to preserve her current marriage the father of the child involved in the affair has virtually no rights to the child he has fathered because the child is assumed to be of the husbands creation. I believe this is a violation of human and civil rights and it should not be tolerated. We always preach the important role of a father in a child's life but here in Pennsylvania it seems we like to promote deadbeat dads with a outdated and cruel law such as this. It's prevents good people who want to be involved with their children from doing that very thing. People make mistakes and therefore potential fathers should be able to have visitation with their children doing this doesn't have to put a current marriage in jeopardy. Under the assumption of paternity law potential fathers can't get DNA tests or blood tests done to prove that they are the father because as I said the child is assumed to be of the husband. I always learned that the law was about fact and not assumption so this law is in my view unlawful. I believe it is an old leftover that was on the books to protect women's honor in the poodle skirt generation but everyone knows those days are gone and today women should be held accountable for their actions just as men are. Visiting a child you created doesn't have to ruin a marriage and everyone should have the right to know if they are a father and visit that child if they're suitable and proven to be fathers thank you and please sign to abolish this law in Pennsylvania.
169. Pass Equal Rights Amendment in the USA
Think women have equal rights? Think again. There are still police that will let wives get beaten, saying it is a "Domestic Affair." Discrimination runs rampant in the workplace - espescially male dominated professions. Those of you going into those may have already experienced it in classrooms.
Arguments for why not to pass this amendment go as silly as to say that it will cause the elimination of men's and women's sex-segregated bathrooms. Even if that were true, who would care? It's just a bathroom - why does everybody have to attach a sexual meaning to everything? I really could care less who I am doing my business next to. This legislation needs to get passed and it needs to get passed now.
Those who say a simple amendment cannot change anything are wrong. The 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Consititution form the basis from which the races are guaranteed equality today. We can change society.
On December 10, 1996, a three-member panel of the Ontario Court of Appeal unanimously ruled that a young lady, Gwen Jacob, had not violated community standards by walking topless down a street in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
171. Help Renee Boje gain refugee status!
I am writing to you on behalf of an amazing woman called named Renee Boje, who has made a rare application for refugee status, stating she fears she will suffer cruel and unusual punishment for her alleged involvement in a medical cannabis garden in California where medical cannabis is legal. If convicted, Boje's punishment will be a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in a U.S. Federal Prison Boje was held for 72 hours at the Federal Corrections Facility for Women in downtown Los Angeles, during which time she was strip searched an astounding 15 times. Two of the searches were done in the presence of male officers who made lewd and threatening remarks.
Boje strongly denies any wrong-doing. The cannabis was grown for medical research under the protection of a California State law, Proposition 215. Proposition 215 ensures that patients and their primary caregivers, residing in California, who cultivate, obtain, and use cannabis medicinally, upon the recommendation of a physician, are not subject to criminal prosecution or sanction.
Boje risks further physical abuse and humiliation at the hands of U.S. authorities.
Please do not allow the U.S. to extradite Renee. We are asking that Renee be granted Refugee Status so that she is able to live in peace, here in Canada, where she is safe.
172. Call for Universal Rights for Women in Iran
Despite the 1997 election of President Khatami, widely perceived as a moderate who would ease restrictions on women, his limited political power is being overridden by more conservative authorities in the regime who continue to limit women's freedom in all areas of life - dress, marriage, education, divorce, occupation and health.
However, pressure from national and international women's groups has in the past been demonstrated to be successful in pressuring the government to reverse some restrictive policies.
Please stand for Human Rights in Iran. Don't let the extremists be accepted and legitimized as the representatives of the Iranian people. A terrorist regime must be recognized as a terrorist regime and nothing more.
Ever since the revolution in 1979, the women of Iran have been treated unfairly. Their lives are almost completely ruled by the men who almost always make the decisions for them. Many new laws that were made in the revolution promote discrimination against women. An example of such a law is stated in Article 201; "During stoning, a man is put in a hole up to his waist and a woman up to her chest." The law provides that if a person who is to be stoned manages to escape, he or she will be allowed to go free. Since it is easier for a man to escape, this discrimination is literally a matter of life and death. Help stop such discrimination against women and sign our petition; it is a matter of life and death.
"We found widespread systematic violation of the human rights of women in the Taliban areas of Afghanistan". UN Statement.
Official Taliban decrees, punishable by beating, stoning, and death, ban women's work outide the Health industry, education, and mobility. Afghan women and girls risk their lives daily to realize the very basic human needs. Even after international condemnation, the Taliban have only made slight and unofficial changes to their gender apartheid policies.
