1. Urgent: Help Save Starving Horses at southeast Vernon County farm
We only have a month in a half to get all signatures. Please sign and send to friends.
Since 2008, there have been more than 30 dead horses on the property of Thomas Reardon. It is very disheartening to stand by and know these animals are dying. The horses go for long stretches with no hay or water, even in the depths of winter.
Early this month, two other horses died. One colt was laying down and suffering; it was thrashing around on the ground. The colt had to be euthanized. The State Vet made another visit to the farm and at least two other veterinarians have been there as well.
Sheriff Ron Peckman said the paperwork in the case has been delivered to the Vernon County Prosecutor's Office. But, Vernon County Prosecutor, Lynn M. Ewing III, returned it for further investigation.

2. Make Veterinary Surgeons more accountable
Justice For Ted was established following the death of our Great Dane through alleged veterinary negligence.
In lodging our complaint against the veterinary surgeon concerned, we were dismayed to learn that the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has limited powers to impose sanctions on vets who have acted negligently.
Furthermore, the current procedure discourages pet owners from taking matters forward to the extent that the courts offer the only redress for owners in these circumstances.
3. Save Training Packages @ Work
On 28 September 2007, it was announced by the Department of Education, Science and Training that Training Packages @ Work would not receive national funding due to an unexpected impost on the Department's VET program budget.
As there is no immediate prospect of continued funding, production of Training Packages @ Work will cease immediately after six years and 75 issues.
Although action is being undertaken to redress this situation, it would seem that a reassessment of these priorities to include funding for Training Packages @ Work is unlikely in the immediate future.
The funding withdrawal means that more than 17,800 people from across the Australian vocational education and training sector will no longer receive Training Packages @ Work in their inbox once a month.
The decision will also affect the project’s other publications and activities including Training Packages @ Work Quarterly Update and the highly popular Back 2 Basics series. In the short term both publications will no longer be produced or available for distribution however in the future this may change.
Training Packages @ Work plays an important role in informing the vocational education and training sector. The decision to not fund the project will result in a significant communication void across the sector.
We are encouraging subscribers to Training Packages @ Work or users of the Back 2 Basics booklets to sign our petition asking the Department of Education, Science and Training to reconsider the funding withdrawal for Training Packages @ Work.
4. Vets Now - poor out of hours Veterinary Service
**August 2011 - If you live in the west midlands area and want complain, contact me for a bbc researcher email address**
As more UK vets opt out of provide out of hours service, Vets Now are moving in to provide out of hours service. While the standard of care may be good, this is leading to VERY high costs for pet owner who need to use their services.
It may be a cost efficient option for the vet but the charges are leading to unnecessary delays in treatment as owners (and rescues) find it difficult to meet costs.
The movement for one surgery to provide care for a large geographical area also causes problems in getting the animals to the surgery.
