1. Lower the IELTS grade requirement for NMC registration

We are a small media organisation which is committed to the welfare and wellbeing of overseas nurses from Kerala, India.

We write to bring to your attention a major and serious issue which is affecting thousands of overseas qualified nurses who are currently in the UK on various immigration status (eg. Students, Work Permit, Tier 2 & 4 etc).

The current requirement set by NMC in relation to English language requirement, i.e. the International English Language Testing (IELTS) score for the registration of overseas qualified Nurses is unrealistic and not practical. Therefore, we are kindly requesting you to review the current minimum score requirement for the registration of overseas qualified Nurses.

2. Scrap Fees for Surrendering Indian Passports

Persons of Indian origin who have acquired Foreign citizenship are required to surrender their Indian Passports to the nearest Indian Mission immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship. A fee of £90 for renouncing Indian citizenship/surrender of Indian passport is chargeable.

This is unfair and unlawful as the Indian Embassy should not force this upon those thousands who have taken up British citizenship and to those who are waiting to accept the British citizenship. The migrants are already reeling under pressure from the Home Office with the increase in all kinds of fees.

The Indian High Commission should retract the fee and keep the surrender free at least for a short period before they impose this fee.
