The village of Mataria (part of Cairo) was popular among pilgrims from the Holy Land and was considered one of the holy sites and a blessed place. Of all the sites visited by pilgrims after Christianity was declared the religion of the Roman Empire at the beginning of the fourth century, this tree was regarded as the most holy.

It is told that as Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus tried to escape from those pursuing them and the trunk of the sycamore tree miraculously opened its bark where they hid inside, escaping detection. The tree is said to have medicinal properties, which is the reason why its branches are depleted.

Nearby it is believed that a spring of water gushed out of the ground forming a pool where the Virgin Mary bathed Jesus is also said to be part of the miracles of the place because of its healing water. This is now known as the "Well of Mary"

Journey from Watford to Richmond is between 57 minutes-112 minutes minus the walking time to and fro stations with 2-3 changes. I am working mum and now spend 3 hours travelling because I started working in Richmond.

The Train Track used for slow service can be modified to introduce faster services from Watford- Willesden Junction- Richmond and improve life of Tax paying individuals who spend a considerable amount of time travelling and penalising the family life in comparison to people who do not work or stay at home.

I feel Mayor of London and Watford should work together to improve the transport link and help improve quality of life.

The UK Government plans to making drastic changes to the Disability Living Allowance including taking away many of the current travel concessions thus leaving many disabled UK Citizen's housebound.

Whilst we at the National Liberal Party would understand a "means" test to assist in stopping benefit fraud, we oppose the changes being put forward by the UK Government and would ask you to support us on getting these changes stopped.

Many councils in England are struggling to fund the national concessionary fares scheme, which allows eligible older and disabled people to travel free on buses.

Central government has passed the funding of the scheme to local authorities, but in many cases with large shortfalls in what it actually costs to run it.

Rural English shire counties are suffering the most, with their funding from the government to run the scheme reduced by over £60 million.

In Norfolk alone, the funding shortfall this year compared to last amounts to £4.5m.

A similar story applies across the country, in counties East, West, North and South.

The concessionary fares scheme is a very positive one. All councils support the principles behind it and recognise the value it offers pass holders.

But the present funding shortfall is resulting in them having to cut public transport budgets elsewhere to meet the gap meaning other transport users are suffering.

There are approximately 36,278,332 Irish Americans living in the United States of America, estimated at 11.9% of the total population. This information was provided by US citizens who reported Irish ancestry in the 2008 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Eight Irish Americans signed the United States Declaration of Independence, and 22 American Presidents, from Andrew Jackson to Barack Obama, have been at least partly of Irish ancestry, this shows that the people of Ireland and people of the United States share a close bond and this bond should be celebrated with an introduction of the visa free system.

The current Visa Waiver Program is an ineffective solution for most Irish tourists as the program has restrictions of 90 days which is too short to meet family and friends who have emigrated and enjoy the beautiful country and all that it has to offer in relation to touring and travelling the 50 states.

At present, there is compulsory quarantine for all pets entering Australia, from 1 month to 6 months depending on where the animal is coming from. There are also some countries from which animals must complete 6 months quarantine in another country before being allowed to do some quarantine in Australia.

Apart from the fact that quarantine is exorbitantly expensive it is also considered inhumane in many countries, particularly when pets are coming from countries that do not have rabies or vaccination rules that are equally stringent to Australia.

Europe introduced the PETS program which allows pets from most countries in Europe and a large number or non European countries (including Australia) to move freely around Continental Europe and the UK without any quarantine.

Animals face an extremely long and stressful flight from other countries to Australia and are then expected to stay in a concrete floored barred cell for at least one month rather than experiencing the comfort of being with their families. It is true that families are allowed to visit their pets, but quarantine places are usually in distant locations with their permitted visiting hours usually only during working hours, when presumably pet owners will be at work.

The State Transit Authority are now disallowing student's who are employed to obtain a concession travel card.

This means that students who only work four hours a week are now ineligible for a concession card.

It is unacceptable for the right of concession travel to be taken from students on the grounds of employment as most working students are struggling to provide themselves with food and shelter whilst trying to complete their studies.

The government should be encouraging students to work rather than scrounging this money from them.

Without concession, it will cost students an extra $1020 a year in travel expenses, and it will mean that most working students will be working to pay for their travel to their educational institution rather than for necessities such as food, shelter or educational fees.

In the Village of Bolingbrook, IL between Weber Road and Illinois Route 53, the far right (southern) East-bound lane of Boughton Road is splitting down the middle and has uneven (not level) pavement. In certain sections, there has been maintenance work and there are two rectangular man-hole covers approximately every 500 feet.



The patched pavement around these covers is rough and in places higher than a speed-bump, which can cause severe strain or damage to vehicle tires, struts, and shocks.

For the past fifteen years there has been a RAPID increase in murder, rape and all other incredibly savage acts and crime in general. South Africa is currently NUMBER ONE on in the world for murder, rape and all crime and therefore earned the name "CRIME CAPITAL OF THE WORLD".

More then THREE THOUSAND FARMERS have been murdered since 1994 and nearly more then 50 South Africans are murdered PER DAY! A BIG portion of that are CHILDREN that were RAPED TO DEATH!

These SAVAGES are seldom caught and only a few gets captured and convicted. Most of these murderers actually prefer being in jail. They receive clean beds, three meals and free education if they so desire.

This becomes another burden on the taxpayer. With other words the law-abiding citizens of South Africa actually are then the ones getting punished for the murderer 's heinous acts! More then 600 South Africans have actually successfully gained refugee status in other countries! HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS South Africans have already fled the country in fear of their lives! This resulted in the ultimate "Brain Drain" of the country.

Instead of keeping the LAW-ABIDING, EDUCATED citizens of South Africa IN the country, the Lack of the South African Government's involvement and lack of proper punishment has secured South Africa 's first place as a MURDER/RAPE/CRIME - CAPITAL IN THE WORLD!

I am of the strong opinion that Capital Punishment for murder should be reintroduced to South Africa! Amnesty International states that the Death Penalty 'violates the right of the life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.' The question - What about the lives and rights of the victims? Were they not entitled to the Right of Life and Prohibition of Torture?

The person that takes the life savagely of another should no longer benefit from the protections afforded under any legislation. The failure of the government to actually ensure the citizens of South Africa a safer country is no longer expectable.

HANDS OFF OUR FREEDOM PASS

On 4th November, Transport Minister, Sadiq Khan announced proposals that the governments would reopen the third year of the funding settlement for the national bus concession - which could result in London losing around half of this funding (just under £30 million).

If the cuts go ahead, they will undoubtedly affect disabled people in every borough as councils attempt to deal with anything up to a £1million funding hole.

This could lead to the tightening of eligibility criteria for the Disabled Person’s Freedom Pass in particular– making the application process even more stringent and intrusive.

There is even the fear that Freedom Passes issued on ‘discretionary’ basis would be under threat in some boroughs.

We must join together to fight off this threat!

The Freedom Pass provides just that, Freedom, for disabled and older Londoners. It allows us to travel for free on the bus, tube and rail networks within London. Without this vital benefit, many of us would not be able to afford essential travel to hospitals, community centres, to local shops or engage in our social lives. This would severely affect the quality of our lives.

With the steep increase in bus and tube fares coming into force in January, the Freedom pass becomes even more essential.

Transport in London is becoming more accessible - The Mayor’s Transport strategy lays out plans for more improvements over the next few years – however what is the point if we can’t afford to use it?

TfA Director Faryal Velmi, said of the news: “Whilst tens of millions of pounds of tax payers money continues to be used to bail out the toxic assets of fat cat bankers – disabled and older people are feeling the pinch.

We must strongly urge the Dept of Transport to rethink its plans and send a message loud and clear – hands off our Freedom Pass!"

The Department for Transport currently has legislation in place for a free off-peak travel scheme for older people and people with disabilities. It is not a right, it is a privilege and I'm sure I speak for all benefactors when I say how privileged we are to be supported. However, I am not one of these people.

The basis for such a scheme allows people affected by age or disability to travel on local buses during off-peak hours and also across the country. However, what if you have a disability, are unable to drive but still able to work? You will need to pay for your fares during peak times.

Now call me ungrateful but I think this is a tad discriminatory. I'm led to believe that it comes down to your local authority to subsidise the bus company for such a scheme and it seems to me that disabled workers, who pay tax, national insurance and council tax are being excluded from the scheme because they travel to work during peak times.

My employment circumstances which are regular Monday to Friday hours, prevent me from using my bus pass. I have been told by my local council, DfT etc that I can use the travelcart on my way home - after I have paid to get to work. This is erroneous. It is better value to purchase weekly or monthly bus tickets which makes the concessionary scheme completely useless for people in my situation. If you do not have to leave for work until after 9.30am then nobody would have any complaints. But this is the real world and I'm afraid this situation has been left out of the planning processing.

In Scotland, they use exactly the same scheme - free off-peak bus travel for older people and people with disabilities. However if you have a disability and are employed you will be provided with a travelcard that allows you to travel at peak periods because of your circumstances.

Sounds like a great scheme and forward thinking by Scotland. I hear they can also use it for discount on trains and underground as well. I've also heard there is a simlar scheme in London.

Why can't we have this elsewhere in England? It is discrimination against disabled workers. Surely it is in the Government's best interest to help people with disabilities to get to work rather than sitting at home not working. Some people cannot work, some people can, that much I understand. But I can work and the scheme is of no benefit to me. Even when my local authority made the bus pass available for use at 9am instead of 9.30am, it is still no use. I can't drive because of my disability either so this is not a privelidge
for me at all.

It is understandable that those who do not travel to places of work are a prioity for bus companies during peak times and that concessions are steered toward travelling during off-peak times but people such as myself who need to travel to work during rush hour and before would like to be considered as well, not discriminated.

Recognizing the need for national, uniform safety standards to protect hundreds of thousands of students who travel internationally each year.

At present, there are no laws on the books to protect children's health and safety rights while entrusted to third parties, especially while participating in sanctioned student exchange and travel programs.

The T Hill Safety Standards For Children Who Travel Abroad will help assure parents that their children will be cared for while visiting foreign countries.

Sheryl and Alan Hill, whose son Tyler died while on a People to People Student Ambassador trip to Japan in June 2007, discuss the need for uniform safety standards to protect children traveling with third parties.

Children have been injured and abandoned. In severe cases, they have been denied health care, sometimes resulting in death.

The Hill’s have launched an advocacy Web site, www.tylerhill.org, to share Tyler's tragedy and advocate for safety protocols.

The learning of the Indonesian langauge and culture is of great importance to us in Australia. They are our neighbours, we can't ignore this issue.

The Australian Education Departments from all states do not allow travel for secondary school students to Indonesia due to a travel warning from DFAT. Private schools go. This is a another disadvantage for our state school students.

Travel possibilities for secondary students is the biggest motivator to learn a language. The study of Indonesian is being further marginalised to the detriment of students and their teachers.

Tambaram is fast becoming a major hub in Chennai. This has been possible due to the fast development of suburbs of the city. The IT industry has been one of the major contributors to this growth since majority of the IT companies are situated in the southern part of the city.

Both Chennai and Bangalore are major IT hubs in our country. The number of people traveling between these two stations has increased by many times in the recent past. A new train service between the two places would be of great relief for those who are not able to travel due to unavailability of seats.

The Central railway station is very far off from the suburbs. Those working in IT companies and those staying in the suburbs are finding it increasingly difficult to board the trains from the Central railway station. This is because they have to travel all the way to Park station, which is very far from Tambaram, and then go to the Central station by walk or an auto. Having a train service between Tambaram and Bangalore, via Kancheepuram, Arakkonam, would be a great relief.

The distance between Tambaram and Park station, by suburb trains, is approx 27 kms, while the distance between Chennai Central and Arakkonam is roughly 68 kms. The distance between Tambaram and Arakkonam, via Kancheepuram, is roughly 93 kms, which is close to the total distance traveled by the commuters in the existing setup. In fact, the distance is comparatively lesser and is more comfortable, owing to the fact that in the existing system, the commuters cannot go directly to Chennai Central from Tambaram by train.

Another advantage in introducing this service is a fact that Kancheepuram is a tourist centre and this service would greatly help the people traveling from Bangalore. The tourist attraction of Kancheepuram would really help the railways to generate significant revenue.

This service would help to relieve congestion in the Central railway station since a major part of the traffic is diverted to Tambaram. Futher, introducing such a service would not have major requirements on the infrastructure front, since there is already an existing BG link between Tambaram and Arakkonam, via Kancheepuram.

Lidcombe railway station is a major junction station on the CityRail network and many people catch the train from there, mainly to travel to work or to travel to Olympic Park for an event.

In order to catch the train at Lidcombe station, many commuters choose to park their cars near the station.

There is a free public car parking lot near the station, however there are insufficient car spaces to facilitate the growing number of train commuters. In partcular, commuters who hold a full time job. This is especially indicative during weekdays when all the car spots in the all day parking areas have been taken before 8.00am.

In desperation, I have often seen cars parked illegally on the ramp or risk getting a fine by parking in the 4 hour car parking levels.

Street parking near the station is not an option because they are limited to half an hour.

Many people are choosing to travel by train, because of the high cost of fuel, the lack of car spots where they work or because of the convenience. Whatever the reason, the increase number of train commuters is resulting in an increase number of people parking near the train station. As such, Auburn Council needs to provide more free unlimited car parking. It is in the best interest of the commuters and also in the best interest of the environment. Train commuters need somewhere to park their cars near the station, so they can remain train commuters - rather than being another car commuter contributing to air pollution.

Rail Connectivity between Bangalore (Garden City, IT City) and Coimbatore (Manchester of Southern India, Textile City).

This is to bring to your notice that the commuter usage on the Bangalore-Coimbatore segment has grown four folds in the past few years. We do not have any direct trains from Bangalore to Coimbatore and vice versa which makes it very difficult for commuters.

We are looking forward for a railway initiative to start services between the two cities which once complete, citizens who have been facing lot of difficulties in traveling to and fro would benefit greatly in terms of saving a lot of time and getting a hassle free travel.

Many people originating from Coimbatore have settled in Bangalore be it for professional, business or educational reasons and this service of introducing super fast trains between the two junctions would bring relief and would save all of them a lot of trouble.

My petition asks that the railway authorities look into this seriously and introduce the services as soon as possible.

1) Currently there is no direct train which starts from Bangalore (Origin) and goes to Coimbatore as the End Destination.

2) Either train starts from a different City or just passes through the City which means not always anybody gets ticket for the same easily because of heavy rush.

3) Lots of people travel every week, every day and there is no proper train connecting the two destinations.

4) Train should start and stop between these stations.

5) Lots of Private bus transports are available with VOLVO, AC SLEEPER, AIRBUS etc with lots of travel by people but train service is still a dream as getting tickets are not easy since train just passes through these destinations.

6) Bangalore is one of the Biggest IT Cities and Coimbatore is also developing as one of the Tier2 IT City, lots of travel between the 2 cities for Work, Education related, Business travel, Vacation related travels, yet no proper trains available.

7) Lots of new private bus companies start their service between these cities every now and then.

8) Rail Connectivity would be a good option for the mass public and could generate good revenue to the Indian/Southern Railway.

Fact file:

1. For Instance few major Private Bus Players like CONTI Travels has approx 6 buses/day, KPN has approx 8 buses/day both side and recently ABT Travels (formerly ABT Parcel Service) are plying with VOLVO, AC Sleeper Bus, and Air Bus etc with exhorbant prices.

2. During festival and other long weekend and Vacation
times the tickets are being sold in Black market and also all the private Bus players are coming up with Special Buses between Coimbatore and Bangalore (Afternoon and Night times).

3. Further every 15minutes there are buses which are going to Salem from Bangalore and also from Coimbatore to Salem which could tell approx the no. of people traveling in Bus everyday.

4. There are intermediate stations connecting Bangalore and Coimbatore which also has lot of people traveling between these cities viz Salem, Erode(Dyeing Industry), Tiruppur(Garment Export City) which has lots of Business travelers.

5. Flight service between Bangalore and Coimbatore has been increased these days with Air Deccan, Kingfisher joining with Jet Airways and Indian which had only the lone flier Jet Airways connecting Bangalore-Coimbatore which speaks about the Volume of travel increase between these cities.

Free travel was created for under-11's in January 2004, under-16's in September 2005 and under-18's in full time education in Septermber 2006 by London's Mayor, Ken Livingstone.

Since its creation, crime on London's transport network has risen considerably.

Since it's introduction, staff and passenger assaults, both verbal and physical have frequently been reported across London's media as have crimes of anti-social behaviour, vandalism and graffitti.

The time has now come to call upon the Mayor for the abolition of free travel for these individuals and stop them using our transport services as mobile youth clubs.

A child day saver ticket on the metro is £1 but when people get to 17 years they have to pay adult fares, which for a day saver is £4.30 and £1.90 to travel one stop compared to 30p for under 16's.

Over the last 30 years we have all been parking angled in the vicinity of our coinciding homes, we have never had a dilemma with parking over the years. Our neighbourhood (cal-de-sac) has encountered an issue, the city of edmonton and a plaintiff have enoforced that we must abide by the law that of Bylaw No.5590 (621,622) all subsections. Bylaw No.5590 (621,622) states that:

PARALLEL PARKING (1) When parking a vehicle on a roadway, a person may only park a vehicle

(a) with

(i) the sides of the vehicle parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway, and
(ii) the right wheels of the vehicle not more than 500 millimetres from the right curb or edge of the roadway,
or

(b) in the case of a one-way highway where parking on either side is permitted, with

(i) the sides of the vehicle parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway,
(ii) the wheels that are the closest to a curb or edge of the roadway not more than 500 millimetres from that curb or edge, and
(iii) the vehicle facing in the direction of travel authorized for the highway.

(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person may park a motor cycle

(a) at an angle, other than perpendicular, to the curb or edge of the roadway, and

(b) with

(i) a wheel of the motor cycle not more than 500 millimetres from the curb or edge of the roadway, and
(ii) the motor cycle angled in the direction of travel authorized for the traffic lane that is adjacent to the lane on which the motor cycle is parked.

(3) Subsection (1) does not apply where angle parking is permitted or required.

The government's plans for free travel for over-60s from 9:30 Mon-Fri and all day weekends have created a £7.8M budget gap in Tyne and Wear. This has meant Nexus, the regions bus operator, has had to introduce a range of measures to aid this shortfall.

'£1.8m to be saved through the total withdrawal of the Teen TravelTicket. This will have an impact on about 10,000 pass holders in further education aged 16-18 who currently make an estimated five million journeys a year. As an example a student purchasing a four-weekly all zone ticket at £31.50 would have to pay £61.50. '

'...while there is a £7.3m shortfall for this area, West Sussex will receive £2m more than it needs to provide free bus travel for pensioners and Cambridgeshire £1.5m.'
