1. MAXIMUM PENALTY FOR THE MAN WHO SHOT A DOG FOR TRESPASSING IN SALAMINA, GREECE
Το
Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Mr. Kastanidis
Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr.Skandalidis
Subject: OPEN LETTER - PROTEST
Α few days ago a terrible case of animal abuse took place for once again in Greece...
Chrisanthos Spiliotopoulos is the name of the man that last Wednesday witnessed and reported a horrible crime of animal abuse. Passing by Peristeriou Avenue in Salamina, with his car, this man heard two gun shots, and the next thing he witnessed was a man shooting for the third time, a dog, to finish him off, while that dog was trembling and writhing, and crying and streaming from the pain the bullets had caused him.
The killer, who is Retired of the Hellenic Navy, was annoyed because the dog, epaniel in race, entered his garden through an opening in the fence! He did not hesitate for not even a minute and executed the poor dog with 3 bullets in front of the eyes of his young son ! Trying to give him the “good” example !
The abuser, who was arrested yesterday, today was presented to the Public Prosecutor so that the charges would be announced to him, but his trial was postponed because of the legals’ strike, for January 16, at 13:00

Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident of animal abuse, instead we re talking about a phenomenon that occurs extremely often, all over Greece, but in the area of Salamina lately has increased dangerously. Having in mind all the researches that proved that animal abusers rarely stop at the abuse of an animal, we consider that man to be even more dangerous than one would think…now it was a dog, tomorrow it could be his child… And since we all considered that Greek laws don’t apply to animal abusers but fortunately that seemed to change to the last incident with the man of Albania origin that sledgehammered the dogs in Mosxato, who was severely punished.
We demand:
The Maximum Penalty for the accused, making him an example for all animal abusers who commit so terrible crimes, in Greece and especially in the problematic area of Salamina.
Respectfully,
Animal lovers of the world.
2. HELP MAKE FRANCE A CAT-FRIENDLY COUNTRY
French law imposes severe maximum penalties to protect domestic animals from cruelty & abandonment, but despite that, an uncaring 19th Century attitude towards the cat continues to prevail - while stray cat numbers soar.
More than 500 stray cat associations have been created across the 95 departments of France to reduce stray cat numbers and alleviate their suffering, but despite their best efforts, stray cat numbers in Charente Maritime continue to rise unabated, as it does in the rest of France.
Our association wants Charente Maritime to leave the 19th Century behind and adopt Trap-Neuter-Release as the only method of controlling stray cat numbers - to be the first department in France to do so - to censor brutal & unlawful behaviour - and be a beacon for the rest of France to follow.
Sign our Petition, and help France take the first big step towards becoming a CAT-FRIENDLY COUNTRY!
3. Help us Help Greek Stray Cats / Βοηθήστε τις αδέσποτες γάτες
Throughout Greece there is a great problem with large numbers of roaming stray cats. Law 3170 doesn't make any body responsible for the welfare of stray cats.
It is almost impossible for foreign vets to receive a license to temporarily work here and the minimum charge set by the Vets Association (VA) for neutering cats is far too high to allow NGOs to neuter the numbers of cats required to make a significant difference.
Problems caused:
* Welfare of cats
* Negative effect on tourism
* Human animal conflict
* Inhumane stray control methods
-----------------------------------------------
4. Humane treatment of Stray / Feral Cats
The feral/stray cat population in Palm Beach County is at an all time high. The only proven humane method is Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). This process over time will reduce the cat population. 2 cats in 4 years will produce 331,000 offspring.
As a community, if we all work together we can make a difference in Palm Beach County.
1) Education in our community regarding the importance of spaying and neutering. (Spay/Neuter save lives)
2) Responsible pet ownership. (Till death do us part commitment).
3) Programs to help with the stray/feral cats.
Help us help the cats of Palm Beach County.
Sterilization fees run between $30.00 and $75.00 per cat depending on the veterinary clinic .
UPDATE:
There is an extensive waiting list for the $30.00 Spay/Neuter clinic.
We can assist with:
1) Trapping
2) Clinic Appointments
3) Transporting
4) Holding cats post-op
5) Returning cats back to there original location
We are a non-profit All donations go directly to saving the cats. We are all volunteers.

5. I vote »Yes« for stray animals!
Dear animal lover,
animal welfare society Ärzte für Tiere e.V. creates a forum for stray animals rights in Europe by launching online platform STARS.
In Europe stray dogs and cats suffer tremendous torments each day - they are hunted and maltreated, beaten up and poisoned; they are caught and kept in so-called »animal shelters« that provide no escape: in these camps thousands of stray animals are penned up to meet a cruel death.
Despite the existence of animal protection laws stray animals have become a questionable source of income in many European countries: their capture, custody and killing offer good business opportunities by involving public money originally designated to improve the stray animals situation.
EU parliamentarians Alain Hutchinson, David Hammerstein and Neil Parish have written a declaration on the welfare of pets and stray animals (PDF). The declaration claims hard punishment for abandoning and maltreating pets and stray animals.
EU Member States are requested to commit themselves to regulate the overpopulation of stray animals and to lay sterilization and vaccination down in law and to implement them accordingly.
A vote on this declaration will be held in EU parliament shortly - the time limit to sign this declaration is May 5th, 2009. It is crucial that a majority of the EU parliamentarians’ votes are obtained for this declaration.
Please support us by asking EU parliamentarians to sign this petition! Please forward this petition to friends and colleagues!
6. Gloucester needs an Out Of Hours Dog Warden Service
On Sunday 6th April 2008 Gloucestershire Constabulary passed responsibility of the welfare of stray dogs to district councils. Gloucester City Council only provide a stray dog collection service Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm.
If a you find a stray dog outside of these hours the City Council Helpline will advise you to either hold the dog until the next working day, or take the dog yourself to Cheltenham Animal Shelter.
This service is totally inadequate, and putting dogs lives at risk. It is time Gloucester City Council addressed the problem, instead of expecting members of the public to do their job for them.
7. Clemency For Stray Dogs and Cats

8. Killing dogs is in NO way a solution! Say NO to Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP)
BMP has cruelly killed over 25 lakh stray dogs from 1939 to 1999. Please do visit
http://www.geocities.com/savebangaloredogs/ for photos and more information.
These gruesome killings might be resumed if we don't act now.
9. STOP the slaughtering of stray dogs in Romania
Bucharest, the capital of Romania, a country which has expectations to be included in organizations such as NATO or the European Union - is the scene of the most cruel slaughtering of stray dogs!
Dogs are poisoned, beaten to death, strangled in the street just in front of our eyes, in the eyes of our children - by the City Hall employees. Inhabitants of the town are shocked to discover that the dogs allready being castrated and keept around the blocks of flats are kiled on the place or cought to be killed in the City Hall bases.
These killings are Major BASESCU's programme of getting rid of the dogs in Bucharest.
