Petition Tag - sheep
Every year millions of sheep and lambs are unfairly slaughtered to suit people's growing appetites.
HELP SAVE THE SHEEP and give them a chance at life too !!!
2. End cruelty to animals for meat!
Each year, millions of animals worldwide are slaughtered and kept in horrific conditions for meat.
Slaughter men don't care about the animals, it's just MONEY to them. Animals feel pain too!
We live on the outskirts of Fallbrook, where there is still land for people to own horses and other livestock. We have been raising cattle, sheep and pigs for a number of years now.
Last week someone called the county and complained that we have too many animals. When we first started raising animals we asked many people if we needed any permits and everyone told us that we did not because of our land zoning.
Even while in the property zone we are in you can have as many horses as you would like. However even goats fall in the area of Large animals.
Now we are required to get a Minor Use permit and a Waiver from the County. We need to get this permit so we can still help kids in 4-H and FFA get livestock to show at the San Diego County Fair.
We also keep our aunts kids animals here, but if we do not get this permit we have to get rid of all of our animals. Not only are they just livestock but many of them are like pets and family to us. This would be a huge loss to us and many students who show FFA and 4-H. We need to keep these programs up and running for the sake of all the children.
It is a sad sight when I see young children at the fair who have no idea where milk, eggs, wool and many other animal by products come from.
4. Bring Shortland Street to the BBC
The British viewing public was robbed of its daily fix of the wonderful New Zealand soap 'Shortland Street' when ITV cancelled it in favour of the dreadful 'Crossroads', which died a pitiful death after a couple of seasons.
Now that the BBC have decided to give up 'Neighbours' from Spring 2008, it is an ideal opportunity to replace it with 'Shortland Street'
5. Abolish live cattle trade with Egypt
February 27, 2006
Following a report aired by 60 Minutes on Channel 9 on Sunday February 26, 2006 showing the inhuman treatment of cattle in Egypt prior to slaughter. The horrible treatment included cutting their heel tendons to immobilise them and most terribly, plunging a knife into their eye sockets to lever their heads around.
The perpertrators claim they are not Australian cattle, although there is proof that they are, and in any case their origin does not affect the inhumane nature of the treatment.
6. Protect the Wolves of Norway
The wolf population in Norway is in a critical situation. This spring the government of Norway sanctioned a culling of wolves from only an estimated population of 25 wolves remaining in the country. During the hunt, an alpha female was killed "by accident" from one of the packs not to be targeted for the hunt - effectively dispersing the family. By the end of the hunt there were only 2 families left, and only one mating pair between the two.
The attitude of the government is biased by heavy lobbying of sheep farmers throughout the country who are trying to protect their free-range sheep. A quote from Afenposten tells all: "We want to keep Norway wolf-free. The wolf is vermin and should be taken out," said the leader of the Center Party program committee, Lars Peder Brekk."
Recently another wolf was found dead by unknown causes. This male wolf was a member of the family of wolves whose alfa female was wrongfully killed during the hunt. This death strikes a devastating blow to the wolf population. Now only one family survives in Norway.
The purpose of our petition is to show global support for the wolves and to demand the government of Norway change their policies and protect the wolves from extinction.
The Mulesing of lambs and young sheep is an extremely cruel procedure inflicted on thousands of Australian sheep every year.
Mulesing sheep involves running a sharp knife around the breech end of the sheep ripping off the wool and skin about the size of a dinner plate, there is no anaesthetic, and no vets. The people doing this don't care as to the accuracy of their cuts, how deep they cut or how far the ripped skin tears.
Is this the Australain way? MR Howard we are asking you to please put a stop to this cruelty.

8. Ban Live Animal Exports from New Zealand
This is a petition created to urge the New Zealand government to ban live animal exports.
In light of the disaster that befell 57,000 Australian sheep aboard the Cormo Express earlier this year, this trade has got to stop.
The Green Party and myself have put together this petition to present to Parliament. We want as many signatures as possible from people all over the world.
The picture that I have added with this petition was kindly supplied by People Against Cruelty in Animal Transport (PACAT).
Blue Sheep are awesome.
10. End Live Animal Exports from Australia
June 26, 2003
While death and suffering has been endemic throughout the history of the live export industry, Australia's relentless drive to expand its market for 'live exports' has resulted in a corresponding increase in casualties associated with the long-haul overseas trade in live cattle over the past 7 years.
With the resumption of the live sheep trade with Saudi Arabia in 2000, there are now even larger numbers being exported to the Middle East.
After the stress of transportation, all the surviving cattle and sheep face death on foreign soil, many into countries which have no animal welfare laws or, at best, inadequate laws.
They will usually be killed without pre-stunning and often even without adequate restraint facilities. Animals Australia has eye-witness harrowing accounts of slaughter facilities and methods.
The result is inherent and persistent suffering.
