1. Demand 8ta and Telkom Mobile provide mobile broadband data speeds at international standard

We want 8ta aka Telkom mobile to deliver the services they advertise. Not to give us 2G speeds on 3G and higher mobile broadband speeds.

This is unacceptable. We ask that ICASA step in and force 8ta/telkom mobile to deliver, or we want to be refunded for all data usage since 01/01/2013 when we started experiencing problems.

On 26/09/2011 8ta had the best speeds in the country, now 19 months later, they have the worst...

2. Save Our Home Help Service

THE GOVERNMENT RECENTLY ANNOUNCED FURTHER CUTS TO FRONTLINE HEALTH SERVICES IN A BID TO HELP SOLVE THE HSE'S CHRONIC OVER SPENDING, RESULTING IN 8 MILLION OR ROUGHLY 450000 HOME HELP HOURS BEING LOST BY CHRISTMAS 2012.

THESE ACTIONS ARE NOT ONLY GOING TO ENDANGER OUR CLIENTS LIVES BUT ARE ALSO IN BREACH OF AGREEMENTS MADE IN THE CROKE PARK AGREEMENT TO USE DIRECT LABOUR.

THE EFFECTS OF THIS LATEST ATTACK WILL BE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE LEVEL AND QUALITY OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES AND THE SEVERE UNDERMINING OF THE BASIC LIVELIHOODS OF STAFF WHO DELIVER THESE SERVICES. 500000 HOME HELP HOURS HAVE ALREADY BEEN CUT EARLIER THIS YEAR.

A SERIES OF PRE AND POST ELECTION PROMISES FROM HEALTH MINISTER DR. JAMES REILLY AS FOLLOWS:

ON MAY 9TH 2011, JUST MONTHS INTO POWER, DR. REILLY TOLD REPORTERS AT THE LAUNCH OF THE IRISH LONGITUDINAL STUDY ON AGEING; "I WILL BE DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO ENSURE THAT, NOT ALONE ARE THERE NO CUTS TO HOME HELP BUT WE WILL GET AN INCREASE IN HOME HELP HOURS FOR PEOPLE."
"THAT HOME HELP MAINTAINS PEOPLE AT HOME GIVING THEM DIGNITY AND INDEPENDENCE AND ALSO SAVING THE TAXPAYER A LOT OF MONEY"

THESE PROMISES AND STATEMENTS THAT SERVICES WOULD BE PROTECTED SEEM TO BE COMPLETELY MISLEADING TO SAY THE VERY LEAST.

THESE CUTS ARE MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF LOGIC AS IT COSTS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE TO OUTSOURCE OUR JOBS TO PRIVATE "FOR PROFIT" COMPANIES OR TO HAVE OUR CLIENTS PUT INTO NURSING HOMES OR HOSPITALS.

TO THIS END, WE HOME HELPS, UNITED AS A GROUP OF COMMITTED FRONTLINE HSE STAFF HAVE DECIDED TO CAMPAIGN FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR JOBS AND OUR CLIENTS NEEDS IN MAINTAINING THEIR INDEPENDENCE AND DIGNITY IN THEIR OWN HOMES.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT BY SIGNING OUR ONLINE PETITION AND JOINING OUR CAUSE AND PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS TO DO SO.

4. Review and improve the BMOBILE Poor Service

For months on end we have had drops in Blackberry Internet service, or no service at all.

Calls to the hotline leave us on hold for more than 5 minutes or an excuse that nothing really cannot be done.

Bmobile is an option, a service provider, yet all they seem to provide of late is excuses.

5. Stop AT&T from LIMITING our UNLIMITED Plans!

June 29th 2007, Apple released the 1st generation iPhone and the service was only available through AT&T. When it was released AT&T offered an UNLIMITED plan to all that signed a 2 year contract. I signed that contract in February of 2008, the first day the iPhone 16GB was released.

I have since then had every iPhone since and have loved my service through AT&T. However, last month (March 2012) I received the following message... "AT&T Free Msg: Your data usage is near 3GB this month. Exceeding 3GB during in future billing cycles will result in reduced speeds, though you'll still be able to email & surf the web. Wi-Fi helps reduced speeds."

Now, after I was on the phone for 40 minutes with the phone number they left me in a text message to call, I was given an explanation that they were trying to stop an overcrowding problem before it starts but when I asked "those who don't have the unlimited plan, will you slow their data service after they reach 3GB's?" and that's when they said "no because they pay for it and that money gets recycled back into the network."

6. Mandatory jail sentences for persons convicted of seriously assaulting Queensland Police

Imagine someone coming up and spitting in your face and not knowing if that person carried diseases such as HepB, HepC or HIV. Then the 6 month wait and numerous blood tests to confirm you haven't caught such disease.

Police are here to protect our community, and criminals think they can do what they want and the magistrates hand down soft sentences.

8. Keep GOPIC Centre Alive

Gates of Praise International is a Christian Charity operating in Grays Thurrock for the last 10 Years. We leased an abadoned and derelict yard 4 years ago which has now been renovated. We currently use it as the Administration HQ, Storage for our relief goods and meeting hall.

We applied for a change of use and the local authority rejected the use on the excuse that we have not entered into an agreement to ameliorate the traffic challenges. This was never a discussion at anytime during the application. We were asked to provide reports e.g flood risk assessment, which we did. We have made it clear that we do not constitute to this highlighted problem as we meet outside the hours the other occupants use the estate.

We have a car park for 40 cars and most of the members to site are local. The closest block of flats to the site is about 80metres away. Beneficiaries of the site and our activities include; Little Havens, Thurrock Council Social Services, Ebenezer Homes, St Lukes Hospices, NSPCC, Terrence Higgins Trust, Cancer Research UK, Tearfund, Sightsavers, Family Mosaic, Sanctuary Supported Housing, RSVP. The council has threatened us with an enforcement action which states that we are not to use the site in any connection with a charity. There is no restrictive covenant on the site. It was left vacant for a year before we moved in.

We have made it clear that we will work with the council to remove any obstacle and contribute towards the requested traffic works e.g a pedestrian crossing which has been estimated @ £10k.

We are also prepared to work with the council to find a suitable property in Grays instead of just throwing us out which seems to be the council's intention.

12. Late Night Transport for the Tweed

Since Safer Communities Alliance was first formed, the concept of a late night transport system from the Coolangatta entertainment district to Tweed suburbs has been considered a necessity and a priority.

We have heard shocking stories of the extremes that young people will go to in order to get home from Coolangatta after the last bus has ran at 11pm. Extremes such as drunk driving, hitch hiking and designated drivers carrying as many as 10 people in one car.

We have also heard from residents other than the youth, who would like to be able to have a night out in Coolangatta without the huge expense or headache of finding a way home late at night.

As Coolangatta is the closest entertainment district for most Tweed residents we believe this issue needs to be addressed.

Gold Coast City Council has announced a trial late night bus service, funded by Gold Coast ratepayers. The service is a 12 month trial and will run every Friday and Saturday evening. The bus will depart from Coolangatta every hour at 12.15am, 1.15am, 2.15am & 3.15am. The cost will be a very affordable $3.90 or $2.43 on a Go Card. The bus will travel through Tweed, Banora, Chinderah and cease at Kingscliff. There will be security accompanying all services.

We believe that the burden of funding this project should be shared by Tweed Shire Council, who have at this stage offered no assistance or interest in the project.

We also believe that for the project to be truly effective, the service should run through to Pottsville to service residents who are most isolated from the entertainment district.

This project stands to benefit not just young people who want to party, but also adults who would like to enjoy the entertainment precinct of Coolangatta. This service could also benefit young people under 18 who simply want to see a late movie and would ensure them a safe trip home. And last but not least, this project will help to move people out of Coolangatta quickly and safely, preventing, we believe, situations from developing and escalating that are common when a large number of people fuelled by alcohol are forced to linger in one place.

So please support us in supporting Tweed residents.

13. Please allow Northlink to sail to Norway

The Scottish government ferries contract is up for renegotiation and review. This contract prevents Northlink from having summer sailings to Norway, due to being a life line service. P&O used to run a summer sailing schedule quite successfully.

The review can be found at www.scotland.gov.uk/topics/transport/ferries-ports-canals/14342/review

This review states “as a general principle, no potential routes will be excluded from the review” and “this will include consideration of new routes and reconfiguration of existing routes” it also seeks to “maximise the opportunities for employment, business, leisure and tourism, and promoting social inclusion”.

Taking advantage of the unique position of the northern isles I think we deserve a reliable Scandinavian ferry link, helping to open business and tourism opportunities again. Any profits made on these sailings could be retained by Northlink to help fund the life line service.

14. Stop Sodexo's Bad Practices at the University of Lethbridge

During the month of March a survey was conducted at the University of Lethbridge.

What Does the University of Lethbridge Community Think of Sodexo Food?

The objective of this survey was to receive an empirical answer to the question of what the University of Lethbridge (UofL) community think of Sodexo food services on campus. This survey was commissioned by the Service Employee’s International Union (S.E.I.U) after consultation with the University of Lethbridge Students Union (ULSU) and the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG). If the answer was found to be a negative one then a second action-research projected would attempt to get better food service on campus.

Initially the goal was to collect 400 responses but with the survey approaching 250 a very clear trend had emerged and we decided we had enough data. With 244 surveys returned there was a very high (95.1%) completion rate.

The University of Lethbridge has a population of over 10000 including 8200 undergraduates and the survey has a 95% confidence rating that the results are accurate within 6points.

The clearest message from both the quantitative and qualitative data is that the price of food is too high for the quality received. 70% picked the worst category on the price of food in the quantitative section and in the qualitative section over 150 wrote that the food was too expensive.

Another significant statistical response was overall satisfaction with 48.5% rating it as “poor”. The comments section revealed a significant number are unhappy with the exclusivity contract, the mandatory residence meal plan, greasy food, the lack of healthy food and vegetarian options and choices for those on restricted diets.

Perhaps most significant though was that eight students reported getting food poisoning after eating at Sodexo establishments at the UofL. The results of this survey provide a very clear mandate for changes to food services at the University of Lethbridge.

15. Unite to Oppose inapplicable Service Charges in Connaught Park

BACKGROUND

Solitaire Property Management have for the past 4 months sent letters to residents of Connaught Park in Tunbridge Well in Kent, presenting themselves as the landlord of Connaught Park and that every resident is oblige to Pay a sum of £152.54 as an estate charge and £917.87 as a service charge.

After having struggled to understand what the services charges included in the leaflets provided, the company mentioned said the charges are for services, repairs, maintenance, improvements and insurance ???

HERE IS THE FACT

Every resident will agree with me that this is a brand new property that has every modern facilities.

In addition, I am pretty sure that almost every individual resident has some form of content and building insurance, pay their council tax to cater for primarily rubbish waste, utility bills etc.

If this so-called company said that this excessive service charge is for services, repairs, maintenance, improvements etc.

The question is what improvements ?, what services ?, what insurance ? or repairs ?

Who contractually negotiated for them to to act as landlord?

Did Barratt Homes informed the residents of Connaught Park that this company will represent us?

How can a new modern two floor apartment or mansion that has no garden or communal amenities be either improved, maintained, serviced, or insured as claim by this company ?

17. "Seniors For Realistic Action"

The Minnesota State Board of Cosmotology has made an unfair decision in the handling of the license of LOIS BENDZICK. Lois does Nails for Senior Residents residing at CENTENNIAL HILL SENIOR APARTMENTS, located at 820 Santa Vera Drive, Chanhassen, MN 55317. This Senior Complex was has 65 apartments.

It was built in 1996 and is owned by Carver County.
The average age of the residents exceeds 80. Many have limitations with mobility. Many don't drive a car any longer. Many used the services of Lois Bendzick.
It was convenient, very affordable and the availability and scheduling was excellent.

This unique service should, by all means, be continued.
Any alternative would make it almost impossible for us Seniors to get this service. It would require leaving the building, paying more and in some cases, involve calling a cab. It just doesn't make any sense!

20. Continuation of the Hypermobility Syndromes (HMS) and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Services at Chapel Allerton (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust)

PETITION FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE HYPERMOBILITY SYNDROMES (HMS) AND EHLERS-DANLOS SYNDROME (EDS) SERVICES AT CHAPEL ALLERTON (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust)

As you are all aware Professor Bird retires after serving the above community of patients at the end of September 2010. Our information indicates that the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust do not intend to continue with the service that our community accesses. So with the loss of Prof. Bird and the highly skilled multi-disciplinary team, the existing and 300+ new patients a year, will no longer have access to what is widely recognised as a designated HMS/EDS Clinic.

This will have a devastating effect on the needs of those of us who access the current service in Leeds. Additionally this will lead to an increase in referrals to the other three existing designated HMS/ EDS Clinics in the UK, namely Glasgow, UCH in London and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. There is no doubt that many of us despite the difficulties in travelling and the extra cost will wish to attend a specialised service in a designated clinic, (especially considering the difficult journey that the majority of us undergo to gain a diagnosis in the first place). It is also apparent that this patient group in fact needs more designated clinics, run by knowledgeable and skilled staff who are up to date with research and who participate in research in attempts to best indentify how to manage and treat what can be a condition which significantly impacts on a patients physical, emotional, financial, family and social lives. It is not in the interests of this patient group to attend ordinary rheumatology appts, so with that in mind we are asking that you all sign this petition for the following reasons;

1.The continuation of a fit for service fit for purpose designated service/clinic for people with HMS/EDS at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
2.The need for more designated clinics for people with HMS or EDS.

21. Repeal deal

On December 18, 2009 University at Albany student, was Disciplinary Suspended from the University for two years because he was found in the possession of an alleged stolen textbook on May 9th 2009. This student had no prior infractions with the University and is one year from graduation. This student has never participated in any criminal activities at the University nor within society prior to this allegation.

On Dec. 4th 2009, a Judicial Hearing was scheduled for the purposes of him to answer the charges that he had stolen the textbook. Due to severe extenuating personal family circumstances, which led him home invariably throughout the Fall 2009 semester, he was incapable of attending the hearing to answer the charges. The board proceeded in default sanctioning him on this very basis. Regardless of his urgent family matters, he was not allowed to be re-heard by a student body. His right to be heard by an objective student body was treated as a privilege instead, taken away at their will. He advocated via diplomacy in order to retain his student right to be heard but, the University Officials did not pardon his absence.

A student and individual of good standing should be given a second chance, especially when expressing a valid reason in regards to his absence. To be suspended for a first time offense is unreasonable, unjust and unfair especially when considering he will be graduating in a year. After expressing a fundamental awareness of his mistake, Community service and/or probation, instead of suspension, is a much more reasonable, fair, just and effective manner of handling this situation.

24. Review Australian Federal Government Allocation of Tax Dollars to Community Television

Since the early 1980s, media enthusiasts set out to establish what was labelled "Public Television" services. The US, UK and Canada have had their main public television stations, and numerous satellite station affiliates spread out across their countries during this same period and to date.

Denied by the federal government at the time, the local television industry was authorized to create a community access television service for each metro area’s public, but these stations later dropped the “access” from their branding.

It was in 1994, that this third-tier industry in Australia began using commercialism that to date have increasingly encroached with each station, where it has become more stylized like commercial and public television rather than maintaining the philosophical principles of what a community broadcaster should be. On 4 Nov 09, the federal government gave your publicly owned digital spectrum and $2.6 million dollars to launch another commercial-style television network. Did the federal government seek the public’s opinion prior allocating your public ownerships?

Please sign this Petition and let the Australian Federal Government, under Senator Stephen Conroy know that the public should have been consulted on whether or not current community television stations met their philosophical principles as a community broadcaster, and let the public decide their faith and change for a newly designed television service that can live up its principle intentions.

25. STOP SERS Recommendation to ORSC for Retirement Changes effective Aug. 1, 2015

The Board will recommend to the ORSC at its September 9, 2009, meeting the following changes, effective for members retiring on or after August 1, 2015:

- to retire with no actuarial reduction to one’s retirement allowance, a member must be age 67 with 10 years of service or age 57 with 30 years of service;

- a member may retire early at age 62 with 10 years of service or age 60 with 25 years of service;

- f a member retires early, base early retirement reductions on actuarial reductions from the lesser of age 67 or possible attainment of 30 years of service.

To minimize the possibility of making unnecessary benefit changes and increasing member and employer contributions, SERS’ Board opted to periodically examine its 30-year funding responsibility and recommend benefit or contribution changes as needed. Should the recommended retirement eligibility changes for members retiring on or after August 1, 2015 fail to keep SERS within the 30-year funding window, the Board will consider other changes such as reducing cost of living adjustments and contribution increases for members and employers. The Board also understood that it could look at the costs of the Health Care program, if needed. This tiered approach addressed concerns from SERS’ advocacy groups that overreacting to the present funding situation could adversely affect members and retirees for many years.

Even before the current financial crisis began, SERS’ Board took action to keep the pension fund stable. SERS was the only Ohio public pension system to address pension design changes necessary to offset increased life expectancy when it introduced S.B. 148 in 2007 and advocated for its passage.

28. Save the Early Childhood Centre Services

The Sydney Southwest Area Health Service is planning to cut crucial services from their Early Childhood Centre Program.

One of the main changes includes the ceasing of the Tuesday morning drop-in service in the Balmain Early Childhood Centre (and no doubt other centres as well). This change will come into effect in mid-December and this decision was implemented without any consultation with the community at large.

The drop-in service has provided regular and accessible help to many parents in an informal setting and has also provided an important supportive forum for many parents to meet other parents.

It is essential for many parents to help care for their young children because babies needs are often immediate and cannot wait until planned appointments which are only available weeks in advance.

Many parents in Balmain are from interstate, overseas or country areas and are separated from their support networks. They rely heavily on formal services for support.

More changes - such as ceasing information forums like 'Introducing Solids' - are planned and something needs to be done to show the SSWAHS that these services are vital for the health and well being of our babies and parents and to ensure that no more services are taken away.

Please help us protect the mental and physical health of our babies and parents in Balmain and other suburbs within the Sydney South West Area and sign this petition to have our Early Childhood Services re-instated and to ensure that future changes to the Early Childhood Program be thoroughly debated by the community.

29. Keep the B37

The MTA is looking to once again increase fares on the backs of this city on our local buses, express buses, and subways by more than 25% next year in addition to cutting back or in some cases ending service on it's routes.

Most affected by this would be the commuters who use the B37 bus which runs from Downtown Brooklyn to the most southern tip of Brooklyn.

The B37 which stretches nearly the entire Third Avenue connecting several neighborhoods especially for those who live in Bay Ridge Brooklyn depend on this bus especially seniors who use this bus as a way of life, commuters who look to avoid the Fifth Avenue B63 handicapped who cannot take the Fourth Avenue R Subway line, and for connections to other buses along Third Avenue which travel all across Brooklyn.

By cutting this bus it will severely impact nearby buses such as the B63 which is already maxed to capacity, the B70 which is one of the slowest buses in the city possibly the free world, and the B16 especially during the school season.

Bottom line this decision will make everyone life's a little bit harder, and their commutes a little bit longer...
