211. Down with the SchoolDresscode in all Schools.
For numerous years some of my friends, classified as "Goths", would wear some really cool things. But then the school would make a new dresscode rule preventing this wearing. They say that it distracts other students from their work. We have school petitions all the time and almost everyone in school signs it. So how could it distract students if they sign a petition to be able to wear it? I think that the school is being harsh and to that i say, Down with the Dresscode.
212. Call for Schools to be Ruddock-free zones
We the students and staff of Australian Schools support Woollahra Primary School (Sydney) in their decision to ban Phillip Ruddock from visiting their school.
Ruddock supports the mandatory detention of young people and children. These people are being locked up in refugee prisons for the 'crime' of seeking asylum. That's why refugees are welcome in our school, but Ruddock certainly isn't.
213. Put Phonics and English Comprehension back in the Schools
It is apparent that the literacy rate in our country has been getting worse yearly since they took Phonics and English Comprehension out of our Elementary Schools. It is time to bring it back.
214. The Way Teachers and Principals Teach Our Children
A lot of our schools are run amock. Teachers, Principles, Guidance Counselors, etc don't know how to understand our children. They see them the way they want to. And if your child's grades stay low, they try and lable them or say they don't pay attention. Some teachers physically touch our children and get away with it because of their Teacher Contract. Some authoritive figures in our school just get sick of handling our children and recommend them to quit school. All authoritive figures in our schools should have to have further education themselves to learn how to understand our children. And with such large classes, our children having problems with grades don't get the extra help they need.
Our schools and their educational teachers need a deeper, thorough examination. All for our children's sakes. And only 3 minutes in between classes to go to lockers and get books is outrageous! Then when they are late, they get detention! What good is this teaching our children? Somebody help our children. They are the next generation and our future authoritive figures!
215. Restoration of Prayer in Schools
On June 25, 1962, 39 million students lost the right to do what has been done for the last 200 years, pray in schools. Since then, tragedy, trouble, guns, gangs and many acts of violence has moved in our nation's school system. Our children have no sense of diety and very little reverence of God, if any.
On Sept. 11, 2001, our nation faced another tragedy. Following this event, people began to pray everywhere (from the president of the United States to the mere peasant on the street. So if we can agree to pray after the loss of many lives, why can't we agree to pray, in an attempt to save many lives in the future. This petition is sponsored by Changing Our World Ministries, in Memphis Tn.
216. bring back corporal punishment in schools
Ever since corporal punishment/smacking was banned in schools, Britain has gone down hill. All petty crimes are comitted by 18-25 year olds, trace that back and you will see that they were school age about the time caning was abolished, in the 50's and 60's there was hardly any crime of this nature, smacking was allowed then and it's not now. See the connection?
217. Prayer and Bible reading back in school
After Prayer and Bible reading were taken out of school, our country has suffered. Now more than ever do we need prayer and biblereading back in our public schools. I hope that everybody feels the same way. WE NEED GOD BACK IN AMERICA.
218. Bring Youth Wrestling To Chesterfield County Middle Schools
Please take the time to read and sign our petition to have youth wrestling instated into the Chesterfield County athletics program. It is our attempt to collect as many signatures as possible, to present these signatures to the county school board as a show of support for wrestling in our middle schools.
What effect can wrestling have on our children's character development? Success factors in sports, or anything for that matter, are part God-given (i.e. height and size) and part acquired (i.e. endurance).
Success in wrestling depends most on acquired factors, and unlike most other sports, wrestling does not favor athletes of any particular height, size, weight, muscle type, race or social class, and does not rely on superior vision or hearing. Wrestlers learn, by the nature of the sport, that long-term success has much more to do with the investment made than the 'natural' gifts one is given. Wrestlers learn the value of reparation and hard work, and the role it plays in achieving one's goals. Wrestling provides real-life experiences that build and strengthen character.
Is wrestling a dangerous sport? There is a common misperception among the non-wrestling public that wrestling is a very dangerous sport. Perhaps it's the aggressive nature of the sport, association with 'Pro Wrestling', or perhaps fear of the unknown. Several studies have been conducted in recent years that show wrestling to be safer than many more common sports including football, ice hockey and gymnastics. Most notable in these reports, is wrestling's low percentage of serious, permanent and life-threatening injury in relation to other sports. A quote from USA Wrestling Club Organizing Guide has the following to say
about Risk of Injury: In summary, of the many sports your child can participate in, wrestling is perhaps the most misrepresented, misunderstood, and underrated. The ratio of participation to public awareness is remarkably lopsided. Each year hundreds of thousands of kids participate in this sport, yet the average person knows as much about wrestling as they might know about rugby or polo -- which combined, involve far fewer athletes.
219. AGAINST ENDORSING HOMOSEXUALITY IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
April 07, 2001
The head of the National Education Association (NEA), Bob Chase, officially endorsed gay activism in public schools at the 2000 gathering of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education network.
We stand against this as parents of children in public schools and concerned citizens.
220. School Funding Bill
In November the Australian Senate will vote on the Howard Government's new schools' funding bill. There will be no real increase for the public schools that educate 70% of the Australia's students.
The States Grants Bill -
- Delivers funding increases to already privileged private schools
- Provides no real increases for public schools
- provides 70% of students with only 32% of the funding
- fails to provide an accurate measure of a schools need
- allows unregulated expansion of private schools at the expense of public schools
- makes it so much harder for public schools to continue to offer the high quality education.
This petition will be forwared to the Democrats, and the ALP senators along the the Greens and Independants from other states who have majority in the senate.
