1. PETITION OPPOSING DEVELOPMENT NEAR SSSI SITE IN BERE REGIS VILLAGE
We believe that developing land adjacent to a SSSI site and near to protected Heathland will have a detrimental effect on the existing wildlife, habitat, flora & fauna.
We believe that building a road to access the new school development, to sustain school traffic, will greatly impact the ecology and environment.
Another site is available for development adjacent to the existing school, it is within the village boundaries and does not have the environmental pressures of the currently proposed site.
2. Saving Small Rural Post Offices
USPS is currently in the process of closing thousands of small, rural post offices nationwide.
Rural communities across America are opposed to this action.

Reverse its decision to end doorstep bin collections. Also to continue doorstep bin collections at these properties, until and unless there has been fair, fully costed and wide ranging consultations with all residents who could be directly and indirectly affected.

BACKGROUND
This petition opposes the cutbacks in household doorstep bin collections. These are being imposed in Rossendale by the council, without consultation or regard for the high cost and negative impact on residents.
Residents affected by the cutbacks pay high Council tax and have a basic right to have household waste collected from their properties. People living in rural areas are being unfairly discriminated against. These are valid reasons why cuts in front line services are not merited.
These cutbacks in front line services are likely to be just the first step. There is real concern that the council will go further in the future by having more residents handle and transfer smelly household waste to central collection points.
Thousands of residents from 700 properties in farm, rural, outlying and hard to reach parts of Rossendale who are having their bin collections axed and will have to take their rubbish up to two miles to their nearest collection point, known as a ‘dump site’.
Thousands of additional properties are affected and residents are opposed to the cuts in front line services and imposition of unwanted ‘rubbish dump sites’ nearby to their homes, to be used for dropping waste for storage and collection.
Waste has to be at the rubbish dump site by 7am on the day of the collection, but cannot be dropped off the night before, meaning residents have to get up at dawn to get there. There are widespread concerns that rubbish will unnecessarily blight residents around the collection points.
Rossendale Council claim they will save £75,800 by binning collections at farms and rural locations, however this figure is unsubstantiated and likely to be significantly overstated when the true costs of setting up the dump sites, changes to staffing practices and provision of car boot liners are taken into account.
Those affected by the cuts say they are being ‘short changed’ after handing over thousands in council tax every year. Many of the rural properties pay council tax of more than £2,000 per year but the council is cutting services with no redress for residents.
A council decision to introduce recycling to around 700 properties was initially taken by the previous Conservative council. However the current Labour controlled council is going further with cuts in front line services and seems uninterested in reversing that decision. Residents are supportive of recycling and are awaiting proposals from the council on a recycling scheme.
The council is claiming that consultations are taking place, but from the outset, continuation of front line collection services has never been an option. Many of the affected residents have not been fairly consulted and have raised concerns to councillors. There is a lot of ill feeling about the way this is being handled by the council. The council is attempting to claim that residents are readily accepting these cuts in front line services and impositions of dump sites, but there is little evidence of this and Councillors are coming forward to acknowledge that there has been an unfair lack of proper consultation before any decisions were taken.
Residents are in the process of organising further meetings. Check back here for details.
Please support your neighbours in opposing the cutbacks by signing this petition and inform everyone you know who has an interest.
4. Queensland Rural Flood Relief 2010–2011 : Give a Helping Hand to Hard Working Aussies!
It is common knowledge that most of Queensland and the eastern states of Australia are suffering the effects of the torrential rain that has been pouring since early December.
One region in particular has been suffering significantly due to the Rolleston Mine Rail Line, approved, constructed and once operated by the Queensland Government. This infrastructure has been designed without the consideration of the natural water flow. At the moment a massive amount of water is being dammed or held back by the levy bank like structure of the rail line. This is creating a further backup of the increasing flood waters, as it takes longer to flow through the drainage structures allocated in the designs.
Property owners north of the rail line described it as a raging waterfall fuelled by the retention of the water behind a once Queensland Government built structure.
The natural contours of the land would have allowed that masses of water to flow away from the township through the local river systems, eventually making its way out to sea or to various other locations away from the area without causing the destruction that it has. This is not happening! This irresponsible decision by QRNational and their previous owner the Queensland Government is costing hundreds of millions of dollars damage to one of Queensland’s vital agricultural areas. Not only is this a major blow to the region’s agricultural production, there is also a significant amount of environmental damage due to water eroding soil away in an attempt to continue running.
It’s about time the Queensland Government and now privatised QRNational accepted the responsibility of the devastating affects this environmentally disastrous mining infrastructure has caused on the productive agricultural area as well as on the people of the Rolleston and surrounding regions.
Time they listened to the local people when implementing infrastructure that could destroy their livelihoods as well as take lives.
5. Support the Laketown Large Scale Commercial Activity Ordinance
The Large Scale Commercial Activity Ordinance is important to the Laketown Community to help protect the rural character of the environment that we live in. This ordinance helps our community to up hold the Comprehensive plan that was approved by the Laketown Township in November of 2009.
This ordinance does not restrict citizen of Laketown, but allows the township to implement control on Large scale business. Examples of such controls would be hours of operation, noise and environmental contamination.
We are opposing attempts to build housing estates on Green Belt land within our village. The plans are neither in keeping with the community or required by the community and are viewed as a profit making scheme and nothing else.
There are enough Brown Field sites in the UK to support our housing needs for the forseeable future so any attempts to build on Green Belt should be strongly opposed. Save our Green Belt!
7. Improve safety at the intersection of Roper Road and the Pathways Estate
The lethal intersection of Roper Road with the Pathways Estate has been an ongoing safety issue. A pedestrian pathway on the outside of a sweeping bend, trees on the inside of the bend which restrict vision and no street lighting. Add this to a poorly constructed camber, no line markings and no speed signs from one direction and we have a recipe for ongoing disaster.
This petition is designed to finally get action from the Rural City of Murray Bridge Council to finally modify this corner to substantially improve its safety.
8. Support Direct Endorsement Underwriting for USDA Guaranteed Loan Program
This petition is being written to inform anyone involved in real estate financing a growing problems USDA Rural Development Guaranteed Loan Program is experiencing in getting loan submission files signed off in a timely manner. Right now it is taking 30 days for sign off on USDA Guaranteed Loan Program's before we can close these loans.
In the State of Florida the USDA offices located in Ocala, West Palm Beach and Fort Myers office of are understaffed and overworked and this particular loan program is doubling and tripling in volume due to the present status of the real estate industry and the current demans of this loan program.
By signing this petition we are letting our government know we do have a solution to this growing problem that solution could help stimulate our economy and save the government thousands of dollars by eliminating the need to hire additional staff and the ability to delegate this responsibility to the lender.
9. No to "Basic" Doctors for Rural Indians
An open appeal to the President of India, the Prime Minister, the Health Ministry, the Medical Council of India and all those concerned with the health of Indians.
Many Indians including our President are suddenly concerned with rural India’s health. They have already started formulating projects to flush young doctors out of cities and flood rural India with them. Medical Council of India is steps ahead by planning to open new Medical Colleges to mass-produce rural doctors. An article published in The Hindu daily, dated 5.11.09 and a Public Interest Petition filed in Delhi High Court by the author Dr. Meenakshi Gautham, triggered this outbreak http://www.hinduonnet.com/2009/11/05/stories/2009110554760800.htm
It is unfortunate to note that some self-proclaimed ‘Think Tanks’ and philanthropists having ‘Godfathers’ in the Eastern Bloc countries are very unhappy with the achievements of India during the last sixty years. Now India could produce professionals like doctors and engineers acceptable for the whole world. The ulterior motive of these Intellectual Terrorists (see last para in petition) is to reduce India to the level of the Eastern Bloc countries and they have taken the whole of India for a ride with compassion and benevolence ending in a write-up and a Public Interest Petition! Instead of being proud of our achievements this group wants to drive us back to the 15th century! All those concerned should be on guard. Before going into the mentioned article, a brief history will help normal people to have a better idea on the subject.
117 AD
In 117 AD legal councillors of the Emperor Hadrian headed by Salvius Julianus, an African by birth, categorised people into four to give different punishments for the same crime — Roman Citizens with voting right to get away for murder by just admonishment, Romans without voting rights to get away by paying fine, free men (former slaves) to undergo varying terms of imprisonment and the slaves to be hanged till death.
500 AD
Persian King of 5th century AD, at the height of his glory declared — ‘without army no King; without revenue no army; without taxes no revenue; without agriculture no taxes; and without a just Government no agriculture.’
Agriculture is the foundation of civilization. Mesopotamia, one of the cradles of civilization disintegrated when farmers were not cared for by the conquerors. Importance of our farmers is not realised by the wise authors or governments yet.
1700 AD
Elihu Yale, the British Governor of Madras amassed wealth in India, even by murdering to steal. When he was to return home with the loot, he came to know he would be arrested in UK. Therefore, he changed his destination to America.
Planning to have a College in New Haven, Connecticut, Sir Jeremiah Dummer, the colonial agent wrote to Yale who had just arrived there with a fortune from India — “… business of noble men is to spread religion and learning among mankind...” (Kelley 24).
Yale agreed to help and the trustees thanked him by renaming the college as ‘Yale College’. Overnight, the criminal became a great philanthropist in USA. Many Presidents and Senators including Bush Sr. and Jr., John Kerry, etc., are products of the famous Yale University.
1850 AD
Prof. Louis Agassiz of Harvard University’s Lawrence Scientific School postulated that God created different ethnic humans. Anglo-Saxon whites are the superior and Negroes the lowest. Anybody who tried even to educate Negroes are to be considered criminals.
10. Introduction of teaching program at UniSA Whyalla Campus
There is a need and opportunity for the University of South Australia to offer a teaching degree in Whyalla. This opportunity will address the critical skills shortage in the area of teaching, especially in regional and rural areas of South Australia, ( the Electorate of Grey) Teachers are of the utmost importance to the future of our society, and we believe and are concerned about the educational disadvantage faced by families and students, in Whyalla and surrounding areas.
We have a wonderful campus here, training country students who wish to teach, here in Whyalla will enable us to retain our teachers. It is important that regional students have more options of what, where and how they study. Retention of teachers (and young people) in regional areas is such an important issue.
The hard work of Rural Americans turns the wheels of this country. The Farmer, The Coal Miner, The Truck Driver, and The Factory Worker provide the blood, sweat, and tears to fuel the United States of America. The Gay and Lesbian Community has been awarded the month of June in their honor. Why should America honor and glorify sexual orientation?
Should America not honor the core values, of integrity, constitution, work ethic, and patriotism above alternative lifestyle? Every American DESERVES the right to live life as they see fit. Every American DESERVES equality. But, The Gay and Lesbian Community has been given a license to shove alternative lifestyles down our throats. They don't want equality, they want to be placed up on a pedestal. Don't the values of hard working Americans with scraped knuckles and thick calluses on their hands deserve honor and recognition? Is sexual orientation more important to you than your hard work? This is for you West Virginia coal miner. This is for you Oklahoma Oil Rig Worker. This is for Alaskan Fishermen, Wisconsin Dairy Farmers, Texas Ranchers, and every hard working American man and woman that labors to forge this country by the sweat of their brows in some small town.
Together, we can show Washington and Barack Obama the kind of CHANGE this country really wants. Stand tall Rural America! Stand proud! Stand up and honor the integrity, constitutional values, work ethic, and the patriotism that is small town America! Demand a National Rural American Month!
The Federal Government was risking the health of rural people with plans to remove incentives for doctors practising in our local communities, said member for McEwen Fran Bailey.
Fran said local doctors would lose their rural retention grants from July 1 and a Federal Government audit of doctors outside Melbourne had sparked fears of a mass exodus of GPs from country areas.
The local MP, who continues to work with our communities to deliver access to GP incentive programs, has launched an online petition to beat down the Government's latest attack on country living.
"We must oppose any plan from Health Minister Roxon to wipe out the hard-won incentives to attract and keep highly-trained GPs in our communities," Fran said.
"This ridiculous plan to rezone most of our communities from rural to inner regional would be a savage blow by Ms Roxon and her Government against quality of life in our communities.
"Families and the elderly would be further disadvantaged by a government that has has walked away from its responsibilities on local child care, local community empowerment projects once funded under Regional Partnerships Program, refuses to fund important small projects at our schools and shuns increasing the fortnightly pension."
Fran said the removal of GP incentives in our growing local communities was poor policy from the Federal Government.
"Our communities and rural doctors can see the disastrous effect that will comes from axing incentives. They fear a mass exodus of doctors into metropolitan areas and our communities will be left stranded, struggling to cope with an even greater shortage of GPs and hospitals run down by the Victorian Labor Government," Fran said.
"But Minister Roxon has underestimated our communities and we will embarrass her into ditching any plan that takes a swipe at our way of life."
13. Save Our Country Hospitals
On the 6th Of June 2008, The South Australian Government released the Country Health Care Plan, A plan that could see up to 43 regional hospitals downgraded.
This would force rural residence to travel further away from their families and communities to get the care they need.
14. A Pledge for Additional Federal, State and Local Oversight of Job Corps Facilities
How can we not see the possibility of our youth rights being violated at these Job Corps Facilities.
It is our responsibility to put pressure on our federal government to force them to move these facilities out of rural areas or revamp their current policies of oversight. It is crucial that we do this, it's not enough to say what we've done, we must profess what we are doing! We cannot allow this to become another TYC, its simply not acceptable we seen problems leading up to the scandal and Job Corps bears a painful resemblence.
With youth living on a facility in a rural area were their away from the comfort of family life, in which state and local governments have no jurisdicition. Therefore little oversight takes place.
We must act, sign the petition below so that we may prevent another national tragedy!
15. Allow Maximum Permissible Ethanol in Australia
South Australian Farmers Fuel Pty Ltd (SAFF) continues to lead the way in the production and distribution of Biofuels throughout rural and regional Australia.
SAFF is endeavoring to provide to consumers E85 Biopetrol (a blend of 15% petrol and 85% fuel alcohol produced from wheat and grape waste).
Ethanol-blended fuels will reduce Australia’s dependence on imported petroleum. The introduction of ethanol-blended fuels will also provide an economic boost to Australia’s rural economies and assist improvement to the environment by decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
Fuel-alcohol blended fuels are cleaner, renewable and has superior fuel economy to Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). The retail price of E85 Biopetrol to Australian consumers will be only slighter greater than LPG.
16. Reinstate Amir Das Commission
The Amir Das Commission, which was investigating the political patrons of Ranveer Sena has been disbanded by the Nitish Kumar Government of Bihar.
Ranveer Sena, a private army of upper-caste landlords brutally massacred 282 dalit, backward rural poor between 1995-2000including the Bathe and Bathani Tola massacres, where pregnant women's wombs were torn out, lest they produce "Naxalites".
That the Ranveer Sena conducted its killings with impunity and protection, often close to police camps indicates the participation of politically powerful in the cold-blooded plans.
While the Commission was set up with reluctance (and only following massive protests), several obstacles were placed to prevent investigation, earlier by the RJD government and now by the JD(U)-BJP government. The disbanding comes as the final blow to ensure that the killers remain masked.
The announcement for disbanding comes following Sushil Modi's announcement that setting up the commission was flawed (obviously since top BJP and JD (U) leaders are known to have links with the Ranveer Sena).
While those whose families have been massacred and the socially oppressed, rural poor of Bihar are fighting against this, let us stand by them and demand that the patrons of the Sena killers be exposed and Amir Das Commission be allowed to complete its inquiries and table its report.
Please sign the following petition for the same and forward it to others to put the necessary pressure on the Nitish Government.
17. Planing and Zoning Board Case # 1605
The undersigned are against the developement of Planing Board Case #1606 request to rezone from A-1 Agriculture district to RR-1 Rural residence district.
Location 7802 North State Highway H, Springfield, Missouri.
A 291-Unit Trailer Park is being imposed on the Huntington Township community of Adams County, Pennsylvania. The developer (Robert Mumma/Caco Three)has a very negative business track -- bankruptcy, neglecting properties, and frivolous lawsuits -- but has made large political contributions and has ample financial resources.
A grassroots effort by concerned citizens is working to stop this development from harming this community, and setting a dangerous precedent for other such areas. This scenic, rural area is known for it's historical significance (Gettysburg Battle), safe and peaceful communities, and farmland.
The negative effects of the development include higher taxes, environmental harm, overcrowded schools, safety and security problems, dangerous traffic congestion, and destruction of the natural beauty of this area.

22. Allow EchoStar DirectTV Merger
I am writing to you today as a current satellite TV subscriber who would like to add my voice of support to the pending merger of EchoStar and DIRECTV. The combination of these two satellite providers will provide numerous benefits to consumers like me, including more choices in channels, programming, broadband and new television technologies.
By merging, the combined company will be a much stronger competitor to cable television and can offer more programming choices and, most importantly, all local TV channels in every market in the U.S. By providing local TV channels everywhere, this merger will make satellite television a strong alternative to cable in our community. Throughout the country, people will now be able to turn to satellite TV to access their local news, weather and community information, in addition to a comprehensive package of national video programming. But just as exciting, the merger will bring the availability of affordable high-speed Internet service by satellite to over 40 million Americans who don't have high-speed Internet access. These tremendous benefits to consumers won't happen without the merger. Satellite-delivered Internet service will bring an affordable and competitive alternative to cable modems and DSL to consumers in big cities, small towns and rural areas alike. This will give me a competitive choice for Internet access and will be especially advantageous to rural communities where cable modems and DSL are not likely to be available anytime in the near future.
In the interest of improving our access to competitive television and Internet service, I urge you to lend your support to this merger.
23. Stop the Echo Star and Direct TV Merger
Dear Mr. Ashcroft:
As an American citizen, I cherish the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America.
Mr. Ashcroft, my constitutional rights are being threatened by the proposed merger of Echo Star and Direct TV which is now pending before the Justice Department.
As an American and a Christian I respectfully request that the merger between Echo Star and Direct TV be stopped for the following reasons:
1. Echo Star has fought hard in court against the laws that insure religious broadcaster's access to satellite television. If Echo Star wins this fight, religious broadcasters will not be able to reach satellite viewers.
2. In addition, Echo Star announced its intention to drop the ABC Family channel, claiming it doesn't have room on its satellites. This is difficult to believe coming from a company that has a half dozen pornographic channels on its TV service.
3. In rural area, and other parts of the country not reached by cable, TV viewers would no longer have a choice between two providers of satellite TV, as they do today. A monopoly would dramatically affect the availability of religious programming in every rural area in America.
4. Echo Star has fought against the "must carry' law in court. The "must carry" law states that any Christian television station in any city "must be carried" on satellite and cable television. If you watch Christian television over satellite or cable TV right now, Echo Star wants that privilege revoked.
Mr. Ashcroft, I ask you again
stop this merger. It's not good for America. It's not good for people of faith.
