The Petition of the electors of the Division of Gladstone draws to the attention of the House:

That the State Government of Queensland is selling a parcel of land that has been put aside as the proposed site for a High School in Calliope, 55 Don Cameron Drive, Lot 126, CTN 1493, Parish STOWE, an area of 14.7 Hectares, Zoned COMMUNITY USE.

This is the only remaining parcel of land in the area left for a proposed high school as the Labour Government in 2008 sold the other proposed site.

It would have adverse affects on our community and our future generations to sell this parcel of land for residential development, particularly with the forecast population growth of this area over the next few years, the lack of other available parcels of land and the hours our local children spend each day on a bus to get to school.

The research into genetic causes of major illnesses is a vital part of early risk diagnosis and prevention of many serious illnesses, such as bowel cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer. These illnesses are among the most common serious illnesses affecting the Australian population.

As part of Queensland state governments cost cutting strategy, funding to Genetic Health Queensland (GHQ) has been cut.

Under previous funding arrangements, many separate organizations have been incorporated into Genetic Health Queensland and as their cost structures are now being closely scrutinized by the government. Genetic Health Queensland may be forced to further reduce many vital and life saving programmes.

Among these programmes are the support for those families who suffer from Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). This terrible condition is incurable, it often runs in families and last for generations and causes untold emotional and physical suffering. The cost of treatment and the subsequent social costs are enormous. It is a painful and debilitating illness.

We will be told that they are RESTRUCTURING not stopping funding for FAP sufferers. This restructuring could mean one person, a councillor, will be taking on the responsibility of up to 2,000 FAP families in Queensland, the concern being that people could slip through the cracks and suffer the consequences of this illness. This MUST not happen.

These facilities for the surveillance of FAP are worldwide, and have been found to SAVE MANY LIVES, please do not compromise these lifesaving facilities by fund cutting and personal cutting, they are far too important.

We greatly fear that the ongoing monitoring and support for sufferers of this condition, among others, will suffer as Genetic Health Queensland has slashed funding to this particular programme. The data collected on sufferers of FAP, is combined with data collected from around the world and contributes greatly to saving lives, improving quality of life and in increasing the knowledge pool on genetic disorders worldwide – this affects everyone. This is a priceless knowledge bank.

Please support us in our quest to stop the Queensland government’s cuts to Genetic Health Queensland, and also to ensure that the current support programme for sufferers of FAP and their families does not suffer any funding cuts.

As a law abiding P plater, I have found that when P plates are displayed, many drivers (including those with Open licenses) behave in a completely unsafe and inappropriate way around P Platers on the road.

Such behaviour includes: Tailgating, engine revving, overtaking at high speeds (near misses often a result), provocative behaviours (in attempts to start an illegal street race). Drivers will also not allow P platers to merge in multi-lane situations.

Having travelled with drivers who are holders of Provisional, Probationary and Open licenses, I have found that many drivers have pre-conceived ideas (most likely stemming from various media reports) about what kind of drivers P platers are. Unfortunately a few people have created a reputation for everyone else with the same licence type.

It has become really unsafe to drive as a RECOGNISED P plater.

This is NOT a proposal to change the licensing system (or the various restrictions) in place in Queensland, but one that requests that P plates DO NOT have to be displayed whilst driving. The various restrictions would still apply, and licenses would still show each persons licensing level.

It would still be acceptable for repeat offenders to have to display P plates (especially those who are place on their Green P's after coming off a suspended license).

Concerned residents of North Queensland formed the Anti Nuclear Group in 1980, after the State Government gave approval of a Uranium Mine in 1980.

Residents feared that water supply to North Queensland would become contaminated. After a spill in January 1981, this group was formed has protect Queensland since, but now the 29 year old ban has been overturned and the Ben Lomond mine could be reopened.

The Sth Burnett Regional Council have indicated that they want to sell almost half of Adermann Park in Kingaroy to St johns Lutheran School.

The School should purchase land elsewhere for their plans to accommodate Yrs 7,8,9 and allow for future expansion to 10,11,12 when required.

This park is for the use of residents within the Shire. The sale of Public assets has to stop before we have nothing left for future generations.

For the safety of all! We need to have the boat ramp at Wiaben installed with floating pontoons down the break wall to allow the safe entry and exit of the boat ramp at all times day or night.

The amount of incidents that occur at the ramp is unbelievable, including trips and falls not including many boats being damaged. I believe it’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

The use of this ramp is a vital part of community life for the Torres Strait people and it’s vital that the safety of our families and friends comes first.

The northern corridor continues to be the fastest growing area on the Gold Coast in terms of population levels, with three of the top five fastest growing Statistical Local Areas located within this region. This has resulted in a surge in residential development projects in the region over the last 12 months, according to the latest research from Colliers International.

Lynda Campbell, Gold Coast Research Manager, who compiled the report, said of the suburbs addressed in her research, which includes Ormeau, Jacobs Well, Norwell, Yatala, Pimpama, Stapylton, Steiglitz and Willow Vale, three are among the top ten fastest growing Statistical Local Areas in Queensland.

In 2007 the Ormeau population was 19,065 and it continues to grow on a daily basis. The size of Ormeau is approximately 24km2. The population in 2001 was 4,221 people and by 2006 had grown to 8,506 showing a growth of 96%. The predominant age group in Ormeau is 0-9 years. Households are primarily couples with children. Of the 38 SLAs within the Gold Coast (C) LGA, almost 95% experienced population growth in the year to June 2009. As in previous years, Kingsholme-Upper Coomera was the largest growing SLA, with an increase of 2,100 people (9.9%), followed by Southport and Ormeau-Yatala, which increased by 1,400 (5.0%) and 1,300 (9.5%) people respectively.

We are trying to get support for allowing prospecting and fossicking in Queensland state forests. This will allow the growth of this past time in Queensland, and bring in valuable tourist dollars to Queensland.

We are using this petition to show the Queensland government of the support in wider community for fossicking.

We have seen a slow erosion of prospector’s rights across Australia, with the Northern Territory and Tasmania being the latest to bring in rules heavily restricting fossicking and prospecting.

Like Hunters, shooters, 4 wheel drivers and other outdoor pursuits we find the areas we can go smaller and smaller.

With Queensland in diabolical debt again, we should bear in mind that it was the common prospector finding gold at Gympie that dragged Queensland out of its worst financial problems.

The Eureka Stockade gave us rights and privileges bestowed by Queen Victoria back in 1853. The most important item that resulted from that rebellion was the Miners Right. The premise was and still is that the crown (Commonwealth) owns all mineral rights and has the right to dispense leases and Miners Rights on all crown land occupied or unoccupied. This legal document gave us the right to access land (like old gold fields) to engage in prospecting or fossicking for minerals and gemstones.

The Miners Right was taken away from Queensland in 1989 with the introduction of the Mineral Resources Bill.

The Miners Right was a very powerful and useful document that helped regulate mining and prospecting in an orderly manner for more than 150 years. It is a belief in some quarters that the removal of the Miners Right was done illegally. Suddenly with the Miners Right gone we had no rights of access..

State forests used to be available to prospect, but this was stoped as well. I spend a lot of time in these supposed ”managed” forests and constantly find evidence of no management, like noxious weeds out of control, large trees over fire trails (very dangerous in case of a fire- suddenly your trapped).

Prospectors can advise the relevant authorities of these issues and help resolve them.

When elected by the people to government, many MP's are young and have only been voted in on a wave of discontent with the current government.

They have not had to prove themselves and in some instances have no work or life experience.

This inexperience is rewarded with a 6 figure salary. After the last pay hike, a state backbencher's base pay rose to $130,540 - more than double the average wage in Queensland. Allowances range from $36,652 to $72,741 depending on the size of the electorate.

It's time we the public, have a say on what pay is given and how the MP's are measured and appropriately rewarded!

Energex have plans to construct high voltage (Dual 33kv -110kv )cement poles & power lines through an area that has been classified as remnant vegetation containing endangered ecosystems.

There is an abundance of wildlife such as platypus , birds, bandicoots, koala habitat, butterflies and much more. Rare flora have been recorded in this unique regional importance ecosystem.

Energex refuse to even look at the option to place the power lines unground through this portion of sensitive Glasshouse Mountains land. They deny any accountability for tree clearing, claim no accountability for the destruction and annihilation of 1000 to 2000 + trees & shrubs! There are other viable alternatives for Energex to consider!

MOU standards dictate they must source alternate options when endangered environment is present & living!!

The Liberal National Party of Qld says they will re-introduce lethal methods of crop protection. The shooting and electrocution of flying-foxes (to prevent crop damage) was outlawed in Queensland as it was proven to be inhumane, and largely ineffective.

Tens of thousands of animals were killed using methods that often left them to die excruciatingly painful deaths. It sometimes takes days for these Australian native animals to die from their injuries.

The bats killed include large numbers of Grey-headed and Spectacled Flying-foxes. Both are listed as threatened species.

The music group "Raise the Bar" was created by Mick Quinn – musician/singer and qualified working special Ed teacher, to provide a social network and creative outlet for youth with differing abilities and their families.

"Raise the Bar" perform a range of popular songs, with members participating at their own individual level . It is very interactive – whether by singing, percussive beat and rhythm, dancing or simply quiet enjoyment. The focus of the group being - teamwork, fun and socialisation.

Concerts/social nights are held every 2 months at the same venue. This is a wonderful opportunity for group members to perform in front of family, friends and other community groups. Parents get to unwind, have a few drinks and enjoy a range of local entertainment including the successes of their son or daughter, as well as socializing with other families in their community.

The FAJWeB- Fast-track AJ Wyllie Bridge Petrie for Our Community petition.

The Northbound AJ Wyllie Bridge at Petrie, Queensland, was damaged during the floods in January 2011. At a Community meeting on the 5th of November 2011 at Wyllie Park, the local Member for Kallangur and two representatives of the department of Transport and Main Roads brought concerned Community including business owners up to date regarding the progress of the reconstruction of the new bridge.

The pamphlet handed out at the meeting says: ‘Works to reconstruct the AJ Wyllie Bridge are occurring as part of Operation Queenslander. This is the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland’s history, rebuilding communities, fixing infrastructure and restoring regional economies.’

12 months have passed since the flood, yet the process of building the new bridge is still in the planning stage after the decision was made in late March to replace the old northbound bridge. It is said by the Queensland Government ‘that every effort has been made to fast-track that process’ since the decision was made in March. The finalisation of the design, removal, disconnection and relocation of services in conflict with the new bridge and the reconstruction contract to go to tender is yet to be awarded.

Local businesses in the area have suffered up to 30% downturn in business, and local members of the Community have been inconvenienced by the bottle necks of traffic which often occur because the traffic flow has been restricted to two lanes on the southbound bridge. It is said by Government that the construction of the new bridge will not finish until the end of 2012, which is 2 years after the floods made the old bridge unusable.

We the Community call on the Australian Federal Government, who are funding 75% of the project and the Queensland Government, who are funding the other 25% to actually fast-track the project. The loss of the old bridge has been a major inconvenience for our Community.

Businesses are closing and jobs are being lost. If the mantra of Government is to support Working Families and Small Businesses, they are badly letting Our Community down in this instance.

UPDATE; I rung Warren Truss' office and spoke about my FAJWeB campaign and Community concerns and this is the email I received on Wednesday 23rd November at 6.31pm.

Please find below the text of the Question with Notice to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and the Minister for Regional Development (Tony Albanese) who is involved in the flood reconstruction works.

Mr Truss: To ask the Ministers listed below (questions Nos. *-*) - In respect of the AJ Wyllie Bridge upgrade on Gympie Road in Queensland, (a) what total sum will it cost to build the bridge, (b) what total sum has the Australian Government allocated to the bridge construction, and has this contribution been paid to the Queensland State Government; if so, on what date; if not, what sum has been paid to date, (c) when will the tender process be finalised, (d) when is construction expected to be completed, and the bridge open to traffic, (e) is the Minister aware of reports that local businesses have suffered up to a 30 per cent downturn in business, and traffic is severely congested, as a result of the traffic restrictions in place on the current bridge, (f) what measures are in place to assist local businesses and the community until construction is completed, and (g) will the Minister consider fast-tracking the construction of the bridge.

Update; No-one was seriously injured in a four car pile-up on the Pine Rivers Bridge on Wednesday morning the 30th of November 2011. Police were called to the scene at 7.30am where they found the cars had collided in the left hand and centre lanes. It caused major traffic congestion, making it a carpark kilometres back to Boundary Road at Burpengary.

IF the AJ Wyllie Bridge at Petrie had been fast-tracked and built, people would have had an alternate route to go around the crash. That is not the case, as both sides of politics sit on their collective hands, unprepared to do anything to get the bridge built.

In the News; Enough is enough! That is the message from motorists and business owners frustrated about the inaction to begin construction works to repair the flood damaged AJ Wyllie Bridge. Since January, traffic delays around the bridge, which links Petrie and Lawnton (and spans 111 metres) and is one of only a few routes traversing the North Pine River, has caused headaches for Community and local workers.

A-Mart Lawnton manager Rudi Burgers said his business had suffered a marked decline since the road access was reduced from four lanes to two, with the closure of the old northbound bridge. 'It's certainly hard work at the moment - it's been very tough,' Mr Burgers said. 'In the past 10 months my foot traffic has and retail customers coming through the door have been down about 25 percent. Businesses are struggling and some have even closed and it seems to be getting worse, as the number of patrons that are frequenting the area is dropping.'

'It's only going to hurt the local community if people shop further afield.' Mr Burgers said sometimes traffic congestions caused his staff to get to work an hour late. 'When there's chaos on the Bruce Highway the traffic will (try to) detour through Petrie and the roads (and the bridge) just can't take it,' the Eaton's Hill resident said.

Mr Burgers believes the delays in repairing the bridge is unacceptable. 'I don't know why it takes so long to get the wheels rolling. The communication lines have been poor in passing on information and we're none the wiser. We need action so we can get back to a sense of normality and maybe (the governments) could even look at helping the businesses back on track by covering some of their losses. They seem pretty good at compensating the ordinary person and residents, but what about the businesses that are facing foreclosure or staff layoffs?' Mr Burgers said.

Kallangur resident and Left Right Out - Community Action Business owner Ian Moses has started a Petition urging the State and Federal Governments to Fast-track the replacement of the northbound bridge. Mr Moses said there had been no urgency from the governments to fix the bridge and solve the problem of bottlenecks. Construction of the new bridge is likely to be finished by the end of 2012 (that's what Labor say) two years after the floods made the old bridge unusable.

'It's gone to tender but it won't be revealed until January, a year later, who's going to be awarded the tender.' Mr Moses said. 'One year after the event that's as far as we've got in the process, which is absolutely pathetic.'

Mr Moses has also presented a seven-part Question with Notice to the Federal Transport and Regional Development Minister Tony Albanese, who is involved in the reconstruction works, about the issue.

I know of 2 cases where 1 person is living in a 3 bedroom Department House as a single person.
the other is a couple in a 2 bedroom house.

When I confronted the Department of Housing about this they said that there maybe a chance that these 2 cases might have there children rejoin them, highly unlikely as both have adult children who have there own homes.

If we review Housing Occupancies we maybe able to help lessen the already High Housing Crisis and those who are living in extra rooms can be placed into a more suitable dwelling.

Channel 9 has used the excuse of "Technical Issues" with broadcasting the South Sydney Rabbitohs Vs NQ Cowboys live.

We are not living in the 90's anything and everything CAN be shown live, no matter what it is. Say for instance a building collapses in Townsville killing 200 people, i'm sure every channel would have a live feed out of Townsville within 1 hour of it happening, they've got 3 day's to get this game live if they wanted to. To say this is the problem is an absolute copout to not only the game, but to people living in QLD. For 23 Rounds Ch9 has shown at least 1 QLD game live at 7:30pm on a Friday Night, how come this has all of a suddenly changed begs the question. It's also not like they will not get the viewers as the Cowboys have had 4 top rating games this year on Fox Sports including the Eels vs Cowboys game which made the all time record for viewers of any sport on Fox Sports.

If you're a Cowboys, Queenslander, Rabbitoh fan living in QLD or just a Rugby League fan in general living in QLD, please don't just cop Ch 9's reason, sign this petition to try and get Ch 9's executives to change their mind. As without us mad rugby league fan's Ch 9 would not have a high rating program on a regular basis.

In January 2011, massive floods in Queensland spewed a plume of silt over the seagrass beds off the coast of Central Queensland, Australia, where the rare and endangered marine mammals, dugongs, feed and raise their young.

Now the Gladstone Ports Corporation, with the approval of the Queensland Government, is dredging and dumping 55 million tonnes of spoil on seagrass beds as part of a port expansion project. The Queensland's own Environment Minister has admitted the floods will badly affect habitat and could lead to "malnutrition and death" for dugongs and marine turtles. The World Wildlife Fund says the dumping on top of the floods is "a death of a thousand cuts" for dugongs.

Dugongs are classified as "vulnerable to extinction" by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and Australian tropical waters are one of their last strongholds.

The Government claims there are conditions on the project. But those conditions don't take into account the effect of the floods. The Treasurer as Shareholder MInister for the Corporation should make sure the dumping is postponed until a proper study into the effects of the floods has been carried out and alternatives to dumping offshore have been properly investigated.

Currently in Brisbane, none of the sizeable live music venues host live music for those under the age of 18, with the exception of the Old Museum Building and Powerhouse. Most deem the issues with delicensing too expensive or too much effort.

To make matters worse, dedicated all ages live music venues in Brisbane are at an extreme low, and due to government regulation, associated costs and the general lack of interest from the QLD Government, have been forced to operate illegally or close.

Currently within the Brisbane CBD (Southbank to Bowen Hills) there are five active all ages venues, Edge, The Hive, Old Museum, Powerhouse and The Alley. Recently Room 8 @ Fort closed which was the only venue of the size required to host all ages shows for more than 150 people for our more extreme alternative style acts, short of using Riverstage, which is obviously far too large for an average show.

While these three active venues are all great, The Alley is also soon to be closed, leaving Edge at the Library in South Brisbane and The Hive, both too small and too strict to run shows of any variety and Powerhouse and Old Museum. All of these venues reject heavy bands from playing in their venues.

While heavy music might not be glamorous for the types of people this petition is aimed at, it is still a large part of the music industry and some of the bands coming out of Brisbane are amazing and need support. Freezing out heavy music just because you don't like it is cruel and unfair, considering that as an experienced promoter in this town, and having dabbled in many genres, metal and hardcore remain the most outwardly popular styles of music.

This leaves a huge portion of the Brisbane live music community without a place to play. Young heavy bands have nowhere to play short of community halls in the outer suburbs, which, needless to say is a nightmare of logistics and hardly ever works out for the people putting on these shows.

Yes there are venues and options, but through costs, issues with regulations and those in positions of power simply not liking styles of music, anything heavier than Frogstomp era Silverchair is cast asunder.

The issues I hear about with behavior of heavy music crowds is way out of order. If these kids dance violently, they know what to expect. If one gets hurt in the mosh pit, they've gone in there knowing that there's a good chance of it happening. I've seen indie crowds break a venue. I've never seen a metal or hardcore crowd do it yet.

I believe the government needs to assist us with our cause. Either by opening up a new space, or encouraging the current ones to diversify.

It is common knowledge that most of Queensland and the eastern states of Australia are suffering the effects of the torrential rain that has been pouring since early December.

One region in particular has been suffering significantly due to the Rolleston Mine Rail Line, approved, constructed and once operated by the Queensland Government. This infrastructure has been designed without the consideration of the natural water flow. At the moment a massive amount of water is being dammed or held back by the levy bank like structure of the rail line. This is creating a further backup of the increasing flood waters, as it takes longer to flow through the drainage structures allocated in the designs.

Property owners north of the rail line described it as a raging waterfall fuelled by the retention of the water behind a once Queensland Government built structure.

The natural contours of the land would have allowed that masses of water to flow away from the township through the local river systems, eventually making its way out to sea or to various other locations away from the area without causing the destruction that it has. This is not happening! This irresponsible decision by QRNational and their previous owner the Queensland Government is costing hundreds of millions of dollars damage to one of Queensland’s vital agricultural areas. Not only is this a major blow to the region’s agricultural production, there is also a significant amount of environmental damage due to water eroding soil away in an attempt to continue running.

It’s about time the Queensland Government and now privatised QRNational accepted the responsibility of the devastating affects this environmentally disastrous mining infrastructure has caused on the productive agricultural area as well as on the people of the Rolleston and surrounding regions.

Time they listened to the local people when implementing infrastructure that could destroy their livelihoods as well as take lives.

All children should have the right and access to a normal education from the Queensland schools system. Children with special needs who attend public schools should be entitled to the same level of learning and education alongside their peers.

Special training and/or seminars to be offered to school teachers who work with children with special needs in order for teachers to be educated on how to better cater to these children. A compassionate approach to disciplining a child with special needs. Children with special needs should not be excluded from an education because of the ''behaviours'' that teachers are unable to handle through their own lack of experience and awareness.

The Charters Towers Drag Racing Club is a not for profit organisation established in 2005. It now boasts over 60 financial club members.

Each year the Charters Towers Drag Racing Club hosts drag racing events at the local airstrip. These events have become a huge success with over 1500 spectators and over 60 competitors. People come from as far as Brisbane, Rockhampton, Mackay, Mt Isa and Cairns.

The success and popularity of these events has enabled us to recognise that there is a need for a permanent drag racing facility in Charters Towers.

Ikea is located down at Logan which from Caboolture is a 72 km journey. People from the Sunshine Coast would not travel the 133 km or 1 hour 49 minute drive to go to Ikea. But if an Ikea was built near Caboolture, all of the North side of Brisbane and people from the Sunshine Coast could use this Ikea.

Our aim is two-fold:
1) (WE'VE WON THIS ONE - WENLOCK RIVER DECLARED WILD BY THE QLD GOVT - 4 JUNE 2010) To have the Wenlock River declared a 'wild' river under the Wild Rivers Act 2005, &
2) To deny mining rights to Cape Alumina Pty Ltd to mine bauxite (or any other resource) in the Wenlock River basin and Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve.

Our reasoning is as follows:
The Wenlock River is one of Australia's last few remaining, true wild rivers. It retains its unique and irreplaceable attributes untouched and undamaged by man. It is home to the largest diversity of freshwater fish species of any Australian river. It is home to the largest breeding population of salt water crocodiles on the planet. It is also home to other endangered species such as the Red Goshawk. The Wenlock must be declared 'wild' under the Wild Rivers Act 2005 to ensure it is protected and doesn't become another victim of man's waterway greed, like the Murray Darling River system.

The bauxite plateaus present in the Wenlock River area, and particularly in the Coolibah Springs complex are vital to the overall hydrology and resultant ecology of the area. If the bauxite is removed, the entire system will fail, it is that simple. It can never be replaced, regardless of the amount of 're-vegetation' promised by Cape Alumina Pty Ltd.

The Government will attempt to pass a bill very soon that will alter the way valuations on homes and small businesses are determined, therefore affecting Rates. The Bill will redefine "unimproved" to include the hard work of property owners, including (among other things) the buildings they have erected, the leases they have in place, business goodwill and infrastructure charges.

This will have profound effect on home owners who have done any improvements on their property (excluding their house), property investment in Queensland and will result in an even more desperate rental situation that already exists. When you don't have investors you don't have rental properties. These charges will be retrospective to 2002. If you own a home YOUR RATES WILL GO UP, this does not just apply to investors or business.

The Qld RTA have made a rule for people who want a motorcycle licence to have a full open driver's licence before being allowed to have a motorcycle licence. The rule used to be optional where u could obtain a motorcycle licence without a driver's licence needed.

The new rule is unfair to people not wanting a driver's licence but instead want a motorcycle licence but have to obtain a open driver's licence before being allowed to ride a motorcycle with 50cc or more. Now we no longer have a choice. Now it's harder to obtain a motorcycle licence and it takes longer.

We think the pendulum has swung too far in the favour of criminals. We don’t think crime is taken seriously enough in Queensland. Police can’t chase car thieves and judges are directed by laws that say gaol is a last resort.
