Petition Tag - puppy mills
1. Ban the sale of puppy mill puppies in Connecticut
While there is no legal definition for a puppy mill, it is best defined as a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation that places profit over the well-being of its dogs—who are often severely neglected—and acts without regard to responsible breeding practices.
There is estimated to be about 15,000 puppy mills nationwide, with hundreds of dogs that are forced to reproduce until they are unable to do so anymore. At this point, they either die from sickness, are killed, or abandoned.
The conditions in which these dogs live is unsanitary and detrimental to their well-being, with a wide variety of effects, including physical, emotional, and social problems. Due to lack of veterinary care, diseases and genetic disorders/deformities go on unnoticed, and are passed on from litter to litter.Almost all pet store animals come from puppy mills. At time of purchase, consumers are given incorrect lineage about the dog’s health, breed, and breeder. Every year, retail pet stores across America sell 500,000 dogs, while 5 to 7 million dogs enter shelters.
House bill no. 5027 targets the issue of puppy mills, aiming to ban the sale of both dogs and cats from pet stores in Connecticut that are obtained from these substandard animal mills.
2. Stop production of puppy farms
In Asutralia and thoughout the world, Puppys are just kept in Puppy farms/mills only for one purpose - PROFIT!
In return the dogs are given food, water, sheler etc, but it doesnt matter if you had all of them its the conditions it is in - Dogs are kept in a box, sometimes 20 in one isolated box, where they are hardly given any food or water, they are never washed, they are in pain from no caution, over breeding etc.
All of them if they could speak, would have their first words be 'Get me out if here ' they are in pain, many having to be put down as there is nothing the vets can do for them. If they were to die in a puppy farm and their bodies are literally thrown away in a corner of the farm or in large metal bins where their bodies are stacked up to the top.
HELP ME STOP SUCH CRUELTY!!!
3. Shut down puppy farms in the UK
Thousands of puppies and breeding dogs suffer every day living in confined spaces with no acess to run or interact with other dogs.
They are kept just for making money and forced to have litter after litter.
This is cruel and must end.
4. END THE SELLING OF COMMERCIALLY BRED ANIMALS IN BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA
WHEREAS, Communities throughout the United States of America have successfully established Ordinances, Regulations, and/or Laws prohibiting the sale of commercially bred (“Puppy Mill”) dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores, retail businesses or other commercial establishments in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the sale of commercially bred (“Puppy Mill”) dogs, cats and rabbits contributes to the proliferation of homeless or unwanted animals that end up in our community’s Animal Control Shelter; and
WHEREAS, prohibiting the sale of commercially bred (“Puppy Mill”) dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores, retail businesses or other commercial establishments may lower our community’s Animal Control Shelter euthanasia rate and lead to a greater adoption rate of our shelter’s animals;

Breeding dogs in puppy mills throughout this country suffer unimaginable pain, filth and starvation each day. Regulated by the USDA, these animals are left to suffer at the hands of inhumane people.
Many of the females are bred to death. They do not receive veterinary care. They suffer with infections, broken bones, missing eyes, and if they bark too much a metal rod is forced down their throat to sever the vocal cords!

Breeders Kill Shelter Dogs’ Chances! Of an estimated 8 million pets that end up in shelters every year in the U.S., approximately 4 million are put to death because a home could not be found for them. Meanwhile, only 24% of U.S. household pets are adopted from animal shelters or rescue agencies.
People supplying pet stores are 'Backyard Breeders' who do not care about the welfare of the animals they breed, they are only trying to make money. There is no such thing as a "responsible" breeder, because for every puppy or kitten who is produced by any breeder, an animal awaiting adoption at an animal shelter loses his or her chance at finding a home—and will be euthanized.
Selling animals denies homes to homeless and unwanted animals who await adoption in animal shelters.
--------------------------------------------------
Behind Pet Shops there are Puppy Mills. These and BYB (Back Yard Breeders) is a "curse" for our society. Responsible for the majority of stray dogs and sick animals at birth. They have no interest in mating healthy and "right" dogs, neither morphologically, nor based on their character and of course without having them examined for any hereditary diseases. As a result of the above, owners abandon their pets on the streets, because their treatment requires great amount of money or they have behavioral problems. These animals are not neutered, so the problem of stray dogs perpetuates.
GET INFORMED AND SAY NO!
PROPER breeding exists, if you are looking for purebred dogs with their pedigrees and their certificates.(Υου can get relative information from your local Canine Organisation.....)
There are animal lovers clubs and refuges, if you want to adopt a misfortune animal, that was abandoned by people, to keep you company.
We are against because dogs are deprived of basic needs:
They are crammed into small cages for as long as they live.
They are fed poor quality food.
They do not exercise at all.
They lack health care.
Uncontrolled mating only to give birth to puppies for money.
STOP BUYING SO THEY STOP TORMENT ANIMALS!!!
SAY NO AND GET INFORMED!
THERE ARE SOLUTIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM!!
9. Put a Stop to Bakers Hill Puppy Mill in Western Australia
Every Year we see a huge waste of life with the euthenising of thousands of companion animals. Our Shelters and Pounds are overflowing with unwanted or abused animals and all at the tax payers expense. Does it not make sense then to put an end to Puppy Mils that send out a constant flow of dogs and cats into society only to add more to the already horrific number of animals that are disposed of on a daily basis.
Not only are they adding to this already huge number, it is a documented fact that animals from Puppy Mills come with a high risk of health and behavioural issues.
As voters we have the power to put an end to the farming of our companion animals by letting our government know we will not remain silent in regards to this cruel and unnecessary industry. We will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
10. Ban Puppy Mills
What is a Puppy Mill?
A puppy mill is a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs. Unlike responsible breeders, who place the utmost importance on producing the healthiest puppies possible, breeding at puppy mills is performed without consideration of genetic quality. This results in generations of dogs with unchecked hereditary defects.
Puppy mill puppies are typically sold to pet shops—usually through a broker, or middleman—and marketed as young as eight weeks of age. The lineage records of puppy mill dogs are often falsified.
How Are Animals Treated in Puppy Mills?
Puppy mills usually house dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, without adequate veterinary care, food, water and socialization. Puppy mill dogs do not get to experience treats, toys, exercise or basic grooming. To minimize waste clean-up, dogs are often kept in cages with wire flooring that injures their paws and legs—and it is not unusual for cages to be stacked up in columns. Breeder dogs at mills might spend their entire lives outdoors, exposed to the elements—or crammed inside filthy structures where they never get the chance to feel the sun or a gust of fresh air on their faces.
What Are Common Problems of Puppy Mill Dogs?
Epilepsy
Heart disease
Kidney disease
Musculoskeletal disorders (hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, etc.) Endocrine disorders (diabetes, hyperthyroidism)
Blood disorders (anemia, Von Willebrand disease)
Deafness
Eye problems (cataracts, glaucoma, progressive retinal atrophy, etc.) Respiratory disorders
On top of that, puppies often arrive in pet stores—and their new homes—with diseases or infirmities. These can include:
Giardia
Parvo Virus
Distemper
Upper respiratory infections
Kennel cough
Pneumonia
Mange
Fleas
Ticks
Intestinal parasites
Heart Worms
Chronic diarrhoea
11. Ban puppy and kitten mills and retail sales of animals in Canada
Puppy mills and kitten mills are facilities which overbreed dogs and cats strictly for greed. These animals are victims of unusually cruel treatment. Thousands of puppies and kittens are born each year, many to the same mother who is bred continuously until she eventually dies. These puppies and kittens are then sold to pet stores and sometimes the public via the internet. Most die shortly after. Those who are not sold to loving homes or pet stores, are auctioned off to research laboratories where they are experimented upon until death is the outcome.
The conditions in which these innocent dogs and cats are forced to live are beyond inhumane. They are locked in too small cages, the housing conditions are poorly ventilated with no heat in the winter or air in the summer. They eat, sleep and literally live in their own urine, feces and vomit.
The 'breeders' are unlicensed and irresponsible which ultimately results in some form of illness. These animals suffer from malnutrition, skin infections, eye, ear and/or teeth loss, depression, fear and various diseases with minimal or no medical attention. The list is endless. Some are lucky enough to be rescued and their lives saved, others meet a very different, very harsh fate.
13. Stop Puppy Mills: Ban Pet Shops From Selling Animals
A puppy mill or puppy farm is a large dog breeding facility created to mass produce puppies for profit.
Breeding dogs are kept in cages or pens for their entire life with the sole purpose of producing puppies for pet shops, internet sales and overseas markets.
In Australia these farms have anything from 20 to 1000 breeding females who are kept constantly pregnant or lactating in order to keep up with demand. The health, behaviour and temperament problems found in puppies from puppy mills are well documented and for each cute, fluffy litter of puppies seen in a pet shop window their mother is likely to be suffering the fate of a puppy mill dog.
14. Fight Animal Cruelty!! Harsher Sentences fro Animal Abusers
I am an animal lover who wants to fight for those voices that cannot be heard. Need strict laws for those who abuse and or neglect animals.
15. Make Puppy Mills Illegal In Canada
Puppy mills are technically not illegal yet. The cruel harsh environments they live in should not be tolerated. We as the people should stand up and eliminate this problem.
In my opinion a puppy mill would be hell on earth. Unclean environment, barely any veterinary care, and a crowded living environment... this isn't right.
Puppy Mills are cruel and need to be stopped.
16. Ban Mass Importation of Puppies into Canada
Presently there is very little Canadian law regulating the MASS IMPORTATION of thousands of PUPPIES into Canada. The Trucks carrying hundreds at a time are arriving daily.
All that is required for documentation is any veterinarian certificate from the source country stating that the dogs have been vaccinated for rabies (if they are over one year old) and that they have been pre-approved for importation by application from their source - There is needs to be a greater GOVERNING AUTHORITY from CANADA verifying this information provided is "true".
PJ PETS, in Ontario and PET HABITAT in BC, along with many other pet stores across the country are purchasing puppies in wholesale quantities at wholesale prices through a major US brokerage firm called the HUNTE CORPORATION based in MISSOURI USA. This information is clearly stated on the puppy certificates.
The HUNTE CORPORATION "processes" and delivers hundreds of thousands of puppies annually.
The HUNTE CORPORATION has been proven to source IT'S puppies from known Puppy mills across the USA.
They are under investigation for many HUMANE VIOLATIONS in the US, but Canada has no jurisdiction over US policies, and Vise versa.
PET HABITAT sources 100% of it's puppies through the HUNTE CORPORATION.
Sick puppies are flooding into the country. Showing up with contractible diseases such as PARVO VIRUS and genetically transferable medical conditions. Many are Euthanized directly upon arrival.
*We are unable to provide the source of this information as to protect professional privacy* -Local Professional Veterinarians are often brought into the stores to provide this service.
This massive import is pushing the supply and therefore the demand for puppies. Canadians are un-wittingly fueling a system of abuse that only government intervention can reduce.
PET HABITAT in BC alone is boasting on their website an outrageous profit in sales...And are recruiting publicly for more franchises.
From their website: "Revenue for individual locations of a Pet franchise could go up to over a few billion dollars a year. Profits have jumped from $17 billion in sales in 1994 to a skyrocketing $38.5 billion in 2006 "
1) Is there a true NEED for this mass importation of American puppies? Is there a shortage of puppies born into canada or a lack of dogs needing homes in Canada?
2) Should there be a cap on the prices of these dogs?
The same puppy is purchased from it's home source for very little, sold to Pet stores like PET HABITAT for hundreds and then Sold again to the naive Canadian public for THOUSANDS. Is that ethical?
3) These puppies are also "breedable". What are the exponential risks and costs involved to Canadians with that issue alone over time?
*** Sign bellow to demand the complete stop of the mass importation of puppies into Canada by the Canadian government effective IMMEDIATELY.
17. Stop Puppy Mills In Jordan
The Humane Center for Animal Welfare in Jordan raided a puppy mill in the Jordan Valley. Workers at the mill were sickened by the treatment of the animals, and approached the Humane Center for Help. The breeder in charge of the farm is suing to get her "property" back, and there are no laws to stop her.
Please sign and show the Jordanian government that animal welfare is not just about animals, it's about humanity. Thank you.
18. Improving Conditions in Puppy Mills
In puppy mills dogs are crammed into small cages where they cannot stand up and do not receive the needed exercise. The dogs sleep in there own urine and contract illnesses from the hazardous cages. The cages are stacked on top of each other. The dogs do not receive proper veterinary care and their injuries cause deformities and sometimes death. There immune systems and bones are weak and this makes it easier for them to get sick. They are neglected and the only time the miller visits is to take away puppies, kill dogs that cannot produce anymore, or throw away dead animals. Female dogs produce litter after littler until they are not able to anymore. They care for their young until the miller comes and takes the puppies away. These are horrible conditions that are completely inhumane.
19. Nationwide law banning puppy mills
Puppy mills are facilities which overbreed dogs strictly for greed. These animals are victims of unusually cruel treatment. Thousands of puppies are born each year, many to the same mother who is bred continuously until she eventually dies. These puppies are then sold to pet stores and sometimes the public via the internet. Most die shortly after.
The conditions in which these innocent dogs and puppies are forced to live are beyond inhumane. They are locked in too small cages, the housing conditions are poorly ventilated with no heat in the winter or air in the summer. They eat, sleep and literally live in their own urine, feces and vomit.
The 'breeders' are unlicensed and irresposible which ultimately results in some form of illness. These animals suffer from malnutrition, skin infections, eye, ear and/or teeth loss, depression, fear and various diseases with minimal or no medical attention. The list is endless. Some are lucky enough to be rescued and their lives saved, others meet a very different, very harsh fate.
20. For Little Ramsey from Bambi Woods
In support of the Oklahoma Pet Quality Assurance Act, so that any breeder that sells over 25 puppies a year, the dogs are required to have veterinary care. A full health check and medical papers, to be given to the person whom buys the puppies. Bambi`s mission is to speak of what happened to him and his brothers and sisters in one commercial breeding facility. This petition is in support of the Pet Quality Assurance Act, that commerical breeders/brokers will be regulated by the state.
Bambi was lucky, but his little yorkie brother, Ramsey got sick. He got sick because he was likley in a cage with lots of other puppies being over looked, just like Chole(Chole"s bill Illionis puppymill act). Please sign and suppot the Oklahoma Pet Quality Assurance Act, on behalf of Ramsey and Bambi.
Ramsey and Bambi came from a kennel operation called Hurlimans Kennels. Ramsey died of a digestive tract baterial infection. Bambi has been sick with many hereditary and congential defects due to poor and over breeding. Anyone would like to sign, please do, we would like give it to congress in support of the Pet Quality Assurance Act. So the consumers future pets have proper vet care before they find their forever homes.
here is the video

There are over 2,100 commercial breeding kennels in Pennsylvania. In many of these kennels, these dogs are being over bred, abused, neglected, and often killed when they can no longer produce. Their living conditions are appalling.
Many of them are living in cages too small for their size with floors of chicken wire or rabbit fencing. They almost never get exercise and when they do it’s often not enough. Many of the dogs rescued from these kennels do not even know how to walk because their cages are so small that once rescued they must be rehabilitated to walk.
When they are puppies they have metal chains put on their necks and as they grow the chains do not and they often become imbedded in their necks. They are often kept in areas with no climate control and are exposed to the harsh winter conditions and the suffocating heat in the summer. Sometimes these dogs have vocal cord damage by a pipe in order to keep them from barking. The female breeding dogs often have tumors and cancer from over breeding and nursing.
The breeders who run these kennels see these animals as nothing more than a “cash crop”. To them they are like harvesting a crop in a field. They do not consider these animals to have feelings. Their idea of euthanizing and animal are often shooting them in a field. They do not understand the concept of letting a dog live in the house or in a family environment.
22. Enact the Protected Animal Law
Were you aware that pets are categorized as agriculture under U.S. law, and are treated legally as mere possessions? All anyone wishing to breed needs is to be registered with the USDA (Dept of Agriculture) and many are in violation of even that one law. And to make matters worse, Internet puppy mills are exempt from any registration requirement, whatsoever.
This petition is to enact a new Federal law by which companion animals would be protected. It is called the Protected Animal Law.
All domestic animals and those who are used for profit, and unnecessary, cruel testing would fall within the confines of this law. There would be strict guidelines as to what animals would apply.
Those for food would remain under the agriculture law. Those who are not would fall under the new Protected Animal Law.
There would be boards setting and maintaining strict standards by which breeders, animal testers, and personal guardians would be required to conform to. Specifically, the non-profit canine breed-specific clubs would be in charge of setting and maintaining guidelines that all dog breeders would be regulated by.
Animal testers would have their own regulations, which would be overseen by non-profit organizations such as In Defense of Animals and the American Humane Society.
Personal guardian guidelines would pertain to care-related issues that would also be overseen by non-profit organizations who devote their cause to improving the lives of animals.
With strict guidelines enforcing this new Protected Animal Law, abusive puppy mills would cease to exist, innocent animals would be protected like never before, and personal guardians would be held more accountable for the overall care of their pets.
I started this petition to stop puppy mills and the horrific treatment of the dogs there.
Most dogs are shot or killed when they can no longer breed. Puppys may be exposed to horomones or chemicals when they are young cause them to carry diseases.
Please sign and help stop this terrible epidemic.
24. Stop the Cruelty of Animal Mills
Have you ever wondered where the dogs you see in your local Pet Store come from? Most of them are from Animal Mills.
Dogs that live in Animal Mills are often kept in cages not able to walk, not well nourished, and female puppies are kept to spend the rest of their lives breeding more puppies.
Organizations such as, the Humane Society and other Rescue Shelters are working to stop Puppy Mills and save these poor animals.
25. Stop Puppy Mills
Puppy mills have been around forever and puppies have been mistreated for centuries.
Puppies get killed because of puppy mills and there should be an end to them. Stop them now!
26. Improved Knowledge About Puppy Mills
We are two teenage girls in our senior year of highschool. We had to choose a topic that was very important to us, so we searched up animals.
We chose the topic, Puppy Mills. We had never heard of Puppy Mills before and after reading a couple of articles we became very sickened. That is why we want as much people to know about Puppy Mills as we possibly can.
I feel puppy mills are an insult to dogs in general! Not only are they not quality breeders, they produce dogs with serious health problems.
Therefore, with no puppy mills, pounds would be less crowded!
