1. Stop Requiring Animal Testing
Animal testing is a cruel and barbaric practice that should be banned. Animals do not want to be tortured, locked up, neglected and abused any more than we do, so why should we do it to them?
Myth 1# "Animal testing is vital to save lives".
Animal testing actually kills more people than it saves because of the fact that animals have different bodies and genetic systems from us. Even animals that are very similar to us in terms of DNA, such as pigs and monkeys, are still too different for every result from tests on them to be entirely accurate.
For instance, chimpanzees are immune to HIV, Malaria and hepatitis. Aspirin causes birth defects in most lab animals, but it doesn't do this to people. Paracetamol is toxic to cats and grapes and raisins can cause kidney damage in dogs.
In fact, most so-called "medical" experiments that are done on animals are actually done with money in mind, not people. That is one of the main reasons why these misleading experiments are still performed.
If a drug is passed as safe due to animal tests, it is then often given to people. If a drug passes as dangerous and unsafe due to animal tests, it is often given to people anyway because even the drug companies often know that animals have different bodies and genetic systems from us. If a person takes it and then gets any really bad side effects, the company cannot be sued because they did do the safety tests.
Myth 2# "Lab animals are always treated kindly and looked after properly".
Although some may well be treated with kindness and cared for properly, many of them are not. In fact, during investigations, animal defenders have filmed horrifying scenes that should disgust us all.
Lab animals are often shot at, held against red hot metal plates, have boiling water poured over them, force-fed dangerous chemicals, cut open, gassed, have their brains damaged with severe blows to their heads, starved, locked up and have their skin irritated by various different substances.
Lab animals are also sometimes abused outside of the experiments. Laboratory workers have been filmed punching, slapping and shaking animals before.
Myth 3# "Animals do not feel pain, have emotions or help others".
This is probably one of the biggest lies, misunderstandings, of the century. Animals definitely DO feel pain, have emotions and help others. Anyone who believes that animals do not feel pain should go and kick a dog and then watch what happens. If animals could not feel pain or fear, how do you think they would survive out in the wild?
Animals definitely do have emotions. When you tell a dog off, they will often cower away because they know that you are angry with them. Anyone who has ever had or even stayed with a cat before will know that cats are definitely more likely to scratch and bite at certain points in time than others. How else can this be explained other than in the fact that they have moods like people do?
Also, time and time again have dogs been known to pine for their owners after they have died. Hachiko carried on going to wait at the train station for his master's return until about ten years after his master had died and Greyfriar's Bobby waited by his master's grave for at least ten years before he himself died, apparently of the same illness that had killed his master.
Dogs have even been known to pine for their people when they have only gone to work or gone out for a little while. Dog behaviourists and experts often call this, separation anxiety, but a lot of it is really just loneliness and boredom. How else do you explain the scenario of a person leaving for a while and returning to get complaints from his or her neighbours about his or her dog's barking and howling and then finding broken items and chewed up furniture all over their home?
Even wild animals have been known to help others of their own species, even if they are not directly related to them. Lionesses have been known to adopt baby antelopes, wild birds will often try to save their mates' lives and even vampire bats have been adopt other members of their own species. Chimpanzees have been known to save ducklings and at least one baby boy has been rescued by a gorilla before.
If these really did not care, why do you think they did these sorts of things? Why did they bother to help out here?
Myth 4# "There is no alternative to animal testing."
There are, nowadays, so many alternatives to animal testing that it need not be used any longer. Fake skin and organs, donated cells and body parts, studies of living people and computer models can all now be used, and these can produce results that are far more relevant and useful than those optioned through animal tests.
2. Salary Reform for Elected Leaders
Do you know what federal politicians and cabinet members actually earn every year?
Here is a breakdown:
• Congress members (Representatives and Senators): $174,000;
• Senate and House Majority/Minority Leaders: $193,400;
• Cabinet members: $199,700;
• Speaker of the House: $223,500;
• Vice President: $230,700;
• President: $400,000.
Previous to CIWAA's inception the WCB and the Government have relied on Injured Workers inability to organize and remain fragmented leaving many voices without a united message.
We must unite all the Injured Workers under one group and one message. That group is CIWAA and that message is We will not allow WCB to deny legitimate claims of Injured Workers in order for corporate Alberta to benefit with the lowest WCB premiums in Canada at Injured Workers expense.
NOTICE: The name and address of every person who signs this petition may be made available to the public if the petition is in proper form to be presented to the Legislative Assembly.

5. Support 10c deposits across Australia for plastic bottles and cans
Millions of plastic bottles and cans get wasted every year. What is plastic?
A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids that are moldable. Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass, but they often contain other substances. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals, but many are partially natural.
Remember, plastic doesn't fade over the years. It's forever stuck on Earth unless it's recycled.
Australia offers only one 10c deposit location in Australia and that's in South Australia. I am creating this petition to change this, to change the world and most importantly CHANGE AUSTRALIA.
We need to create more deposit centres to save our world.
6. We Should Have Options - Bring Back Go Transit Monthly Passes
In January 2013 GO transit stopped issuing Monthly Passes and will only accept PRESTO cards or Cash. Recently the price of a ticket paid by cash is $9.20 from Oshawa to Union Stn. PRESTO cards are card you tap on and off thanks to technology, but i'm sure as everyone has noticed technology does have glitches at time.
If you are heading to work, and you tap on... what happens if your card doesn't work, or you unintentionally tap on twice, or you tap on and think it worked but when the time comes to tap your card on the train to make sure you paid and your card doesn't work? you will be stuck with a ticket making you pay even more. Monthly passes were expensive but we should still have the option... we have the RIGHT to have the option because the amount of money GO transit makes off of us is plenty to keep monthly passes available.
If you go to Union Stn in Toronto you will notice a billboard of some sorts across fro track number 4 of what Union Station will look like.. It looks like our hard earned dollars are going towards stuff to make THEM better but not us at all. WE HAVE RIGHTS - WE SHOULD HAVE OPTIONS especially if we are using our money to pay for their renovations...
7. More pro-animal apps and less pro-hunting ones
If you have an iPhone, iPad or other Apple device, and search "hunting" under "apps", you will find loads of pro-hunting ones, and almost no anti-hunting apps.
Sport hunting is cruelty to animals. Period.
I can understand that some people, and some animals, need to hunt to survive, but hunting for fun or for profit is totally inexcusable and barbaric. We need more animal rights apps and less of those ones that promote cruelty, and at is why it is important for those of use who care about animals to buy pro-animal apps, sign this petition and send polite messages to Apple to spread compassion.
8. The Federal Recycleable Bottles and Cans Debt Reduction Act of 2013
As the National Debt continues to rise, we are concerned that intiatives to slow or prevent the continued growth of the debt are not being put into force. The National Debt will NEVER stop increasing until measures take place that bring in more federal dollars to offset the growing National Debt.
While increasing debt payment dollars is essentally putting a band aid on a more serious problem of over spending or operating above the Federal Budget, we feel that steps need to be taken to slow the steady increase of the debt, which increase the Federal Government operating income to a point that the debt clock slows, stops or even starts to decline. The Federal Deficit will NEVER-EVER be paid down until the amount of Federal Income dollars exceeds the amount of Federal Dollars being spent to operate our government.
This is a perplexing delemna because no one wants to have to spend more money to live at their present income levels. However, we are recommending to Congress an agenda that takes into consideration ALL consumption demands that United States citizens place on our environmental waste disposal to establish a fair, reasonable and continious growth increase to incoming Federal dollars to help offset the costs associated with running our government; Thus slowing the growth of the Federal Deficit and increasing our Federal Governments future revenue dollars. We are recommending to Congress the Recycleable Bottles and Cans Debt Reduction Act of 2013. This act asks for the addition of a FEDERAL $.10 non-refundable deposit on ALL aluminum cans and plastic bottles consumed in the United States of America. The plan includes a $.10 non-refundable increase to the following recycleable and non-recycleable items which is collected at customer checkout or ;point of sale locations and submitted on a monthly basis to the federal govenment. The containers that recieve the non-refundable Federal deposit include:
Aluminum Cans ($.10 Each Can All sizes)
Plastic Soda Bottles ($.10 Each Bottle All Sizes)
Plastic Water Bottles ($.10 Each Bottle All Sizes)
We know that this increase to peoples current cost of living will be somewhat uncomfortable, however, our country consumes a tremendous amount of soda, alcoholic beverages and bottled water containers that end up in land fills every single day! These waste facilities must handle our growing waste disposal needs on a daily basis. This federal Government income producing measure may also have positive effects that stimulate the reduction of over consumption of alcholic, sugered sodas and unnecessary bottled water. Lowered consumption of alcholic beverages and sugered sodas offer future health dollar savings potential over the long term for present undiagnosed diabetic patients, as well as, health concerns for people who over consume alcholic beverages and undiagnosed diseases effecting the liver and kindeys. The increase expenditure to bottled water may decrease the number of bottled water containers consumed in the United States. These non-recycleable bottled water containers presently show up in dumpsters, land fills, and garbage cans across America at an alarning rate. We feel that this measure may reduce the consumption of unnecessary bottled water and prompt citizens to use water in their homes for drinking and cooking purposes.
We hope the the present infrastructure of the United States Federal Governement will be able to handle the management of this increase to Federal revenues measure with as little leakage as possible.
We hope you will join us in supporting The Recycleable Bottles and Cans Debt Reduction Act of 2013 and recommending it to Congress to help us slow the growth of our National Debt so that our future youth of America do not face an overwheling, burden in the future. Please let your voice be heard by signing our petition.
Thank You!
9. No more cruelty to film animals
You may be shocked to discover that the American Humane Association's famous "No animals were harmed in the making of this movie" disclaimer does not protect film animals at all times; it only applies to actual making of the movie, not the training nor the animals' lives afterwards.
Animals have been beaten, had their skin and flesh torn, been neglected and confined to tiny tanks and cages, as well as hideous problems, due to this deadly loophole.
10. Stop Short term cash loans ruining lives!
Over the past few years the recession has crippled many millions of families nation wide. With the recession poverty followed and families have become reliant on fast short term cash loans. This is short term is just a temporary fix and has an underlying impact in the long run.
Many families are pestered by loan bodies who charge obscene amounts of interest thus leaving vulnerable families in a worse off position.
Lou and Bill are two oxen that used to work on the college farm for ten years before Lou got injured and is now unable to work. Bill is unable to pull the plough on his own.
Although they now have other oxen as well, and an animal sanctuary has agreed to take them, the college are now planning on slaughtering these two oxen.
If this happens, their deaths may involve paralysis by bolt gun or electric tongs followed brutal killings involving cuts to their throats. Since the college plans on serving their meat on the site, they may end up as half-eaten meals thrown away in the college bins.
12. Stop the faults at EA Games
Sims 3 has a lot of errors. It will often throw you out or freeze in the middle of the game. This could be because of the fact that EA Games rushed the people that tested the games so that they could get them on the market quicker.
However, I feel that it would have been better for them to wait and have the games tested properly because then these errors would have been picked up before the games were released.
There is nothing more annoying than the game freezing or throwing you out when you had been enjoying it so much that you had forgotten to save it.
13. Don't Cut Funding for our Nova Scotian Schools
Our schools are getting budget cuts. Which means classes will be getting cut to save money. We could have two teachers teaching per class and classes with more then 40 people. We will be getting rid of a bunch of teachers also.
We need you guys to sign this help us keep our classes the same.
14. We want Pacquiao vs Mayweather
Customers pay a large amount of money to see boxing fights on pay per view and in person. We should be given the fight that we have waited for by both sides.
Someone needs to step in to make this fight happen. Give both sides the equal amount of money and % percent to make the fight equal. The excuses have gone on far enough and the Fans will not wait any longer.
15. Review problem Bicycle Lanes
Victoria road and in fact most roads in Port Adelaide / Adelaide now have Bike Lanes. You are not allowed to park in them at periods which cause problems for local business and residents. They are active even on public holidays.
They devalue our property and cause loss of business. They are wrong as a proper bike lane would have footpath, car parking, bike lane, road car lanes. This is not the case here.
16. Support a Tax Write-Off for Cloth Diapering Families
In 1988, over 18 billion diapers were sold and consumed in the United States that year. Disposable manufacturers say energy usage is the same for cloth or disposables, but the fact is that throwaways use five times more energy than reusable.
*The instructions on a disposable diaper package advise that all fecal matter should be deposited in the toilet before discarding, yet less than one half of one percent of all waste from single-use diapers goes into the sewage system.
* About 5 million tons of untreated body excrement, which may carry over 100 intestinal viruses, is brought to landfills via disposables. This may contribute to groundwater contamination and attract insects that carry and transmit diseases. In 1990, 18 billion disposables were thrown into United States landfills.
In 1988, nearly $300 million dollars were spent annually just to discard disposable diapers, whereas cotton diapers are reused 50 to 200 times before being turned into rags.
No one knows how long it takes for a disposable diaper to decompose, but it is estimated to be about 250-500 years, long after your children, grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren will be gone.
Disposable diapers are the third largest single consumer item in landfills, and represent about 4% of solid waste. In a house with a child in diapers, disposables make up 50% of household waste.
Disposable diapers generate sixty times more solid waste and use twenty times more raw materials, like crude oil and wood pulp.
The manufacture and use of disposable diapers amounts to 2.3 times more water wasted than cloth.
Over 300 pounds of wood, 50 pounds of petroleum feedstocks and 20 pounds of chlorine are used to produce disposable diapers for one baby EACH YEAR.
17. Fair chances on apprenticeships
Majority of young people who are out of work apply for apprenticeships. Currently in my town there are many apprenticeships although I've apply for many and still seem to get nothing out of the interview.
Apprenticeships are supposed to be helping young people like myself although its just like a normal job in the UK only the best get the job and now its the same for apprenticeships only the ones with the grades get the chance. Like myself I have loads of experience but the interviewers were only interested at grades and levels which at the time I did not have certificates to prove my grades due me just finishing school and not receiving the certificate till August 2011.
For example I live in my own flat at 17 with barely any money, living on money from social services which is very difficult to live on, but I do not want to be on benefits in the future or now I would like an opportunity to have a job and not be sat at home doing nothing.
18. Access Codes College Should Pay For
Since the Internet is becoming more dominate in the classroom, students are forced to buy access codes to get information, grades, homework, and messages sent to them from their teachers.
With the money spent toward education, these extra features should be given to students.
19. Increase employer superannuation contributions to 12%
The Finance Sector Union is calling on finance workers to support the push for employer superannuation contributions to be increased to 12%.
I AM A SINGLE MOTHER LIVING IN MUSKEGON MICHIGAN. I FOLLOW ALL THE RULES SET DOWN BY LANSING TO GET FIA FROM THE STATE.
I AM SEARCHING FOR A JOB AND GOING TO WORK FIRST. THE STATE IS NOW TELLING ME THAT ME AND OTHERS LIKE ME CAN NOT GET AID FROM OUR STATE ANY LONGER. WITH THE ECONOMY LIKE IT IS IT IS GOING TO JUST MAKE CRIME RISE AND MORE PEOPLE HOMELESS AND KIDS HUNGRY..
21. End Homelessness by having a Homeless Awareness day in schools
I have seen homeless people on the street, but I never give them money because of fear that they would spend it on drugs and alcohol. This is not to due to prejudice at all; I would not give any stranger money because of this fear.
Homeless people are still people! One of the reasons why people are homeless is because they do not want to have to go into shelter because they do not want to lose their dogs. The answer to this would be to create more dog-friendly homeless shelters where the people have their own rooms where the dogs can be kept in to stop the risk of allergy in the other people. Another reason why people are homeless is due to not having enough money to afford household costs.
The answer to this too would be to use old buildings where possible and to build new homeless shelters, as well as to reduce household costs. Another common reason is due to family problems such as divorces and abuse. The solution to many of these domestic problems would be to promote the charity Samaritans more so that they can talk to these people.
If we do not help the homeless, they will be less inclined to want to help us if we ever need help for them. Also, we need to consider the people themselves as well. How would you like to have to sleep on a pavement all night and eat scraps and cheap food for your only meals?
As well as this, animal welfare may also suffer because they may sometimes get an even worse deal. This is not the homeless people's fault. Rather it is because they cannot afford good food and veterinary treatment for their dogs and live too far away from clinics that offer free animal health care.
In my vision, Homeless Awareness day would involve people from homeless charities coming around to different schools and collecting money as well as people who have been homeless before coming to do talks and answer students' questions about what it's like to live on the streets.
July 5, 2011 Casey Anthony was acquitted of all major charges against her in the death of her daughter Caylee Anthony that went missing in June 2008. Caylee Anthony was not found until December of 2008. Since the acquittal there have been jurors that are requesting large amounts of money for interviews or any information that they are willing to provide.
This was a tragic, heartbreaking case that should not be exploited for personal gain. The jurors were chosen to serve justice not make a quick buck.
I am writing about the proposals to build a new town called Cranbrook near where I live. If you do this, millions of animals, birds, insects and even people will lose their homes and livelihoods. I know that it is now far too late to stop the building, but it is not too late to reduce the plans to half the size. This is the flood plains that you are about to build on so your building work will only be destroyed if there is a flood, which there is a high risk of.
This is supposedly to reduce homelessness and to increase the number of people employed, but it will actually destroy more employment by destroying the farmers’ land and the forest where the forest rangers work. If we do need more business jobs, old buildings can be reconstructed and reused wherever possible. As for the homeless issue, I feel that the right way to deal with this would be to reuse old homes wherever possible and to reduce household costs.
Haven’t you ever taken the time to observe and try to understand the beautiful wildlife that live there? The wonders of nature should teach you why it is so important that you reduce the planned area to around half its size. Trees are vital for our survival as they produce life-giving oxygen as well as providing a home to the unique British wildlife.
Unless you at least reduce the planned area, you will never be forgiven by the environmentalists. There may be protests outside the Council houses, letters of hate and disgust, and maybe even economic boycotts of this county. I will not support the Council in any way until you reduce the plans and unless you do so, I for one will never forgive you".
This was how my letter to the Devon County Council read. Unless I get enough signatures here, beautiful innocent wild animals will die.
24. Save the animals and the people!
Picture a beautiful, relaxing wildife habitat which provides a home for millions of animals and birds. Imagine that the same place hosts hundreds of oxygen-producing trees. Imagine that the place also provides a home and livelihood for at least a few farmers and other workers.
Now imagine bulldozers hurtling in and ripping up the trees, running over innocent animals and maybe even injuring one or two children. This is what almost certainly will happen and the Council want to call the new town "Cranbrook". They say that this for "economical reasons". But the fact is that it will do far more bad than good as the farmers will lose their livelihoods.
If any lower individual wanted to do this, they would be prosecuted by law, but the council are not in trouble for this. Why? Because they talk in posh language, they are high in power and may claim that they are "using resourceful land to build a new community for economical purposes" rather than saying that they are tearing down trees and destroying beautiful fields to build busy highways, shops, houses and leisure centres for their own evil money.
They say that it will provide employment, but this can sometimes be achieved by fixing and reusing old buildings. They also say that it will create more homes and prevent homelessness. The right way to prevent homelessness would be to fix and reuse old homes, lower household costs and fund homeless charities such as Shelter and the Salvation Army.
How would YOU like to lose your home and/or livelihood?
25. Innocent animals have died and so have people...
Chevron may well be cheap and efficient, and they may well be your favourite company, but they have been responsible for one of the biggest causes of death, loss and health problems in the Amazon Rainforest; their own mess!
They have caused so much mess that animals and people, including children, have been forced to drink filthy, toxic water that was once safe. They have poisoned innocent animals that then die slowly and painfully. This also pollutes the people's food sources making them even more at risk.
Children have probably been orphaned and have certainly siblings and family members due to Chevron's mess, which was probably accidental.
!!!NOW CHEVRON HAVE VOWED NEVER TO CLEAN UP THEIR MESS!!!
The mess will exist for longer and even more innocent lives will be lost.
26. Reduce damage to wildlife in Devon
Picture a beautiful scene of nature and fields providing a home to millions of animals and birds. Imagine that this is also a home and livelihood for farmers and provides jobs for many other people too. There is such a place near where I live and now the Council wish to build a town here called Cranbrook.
Unless I get enough signatures here, they will be building to their original plans, and destroying the homes, jobs and livelihoods of both wildlife and people with bulldozers. While it is far too late to stop the building altogether, it is not too late for the Council to reduce their plans to build here. This would also be dangerous since they plan to build homes and other buildings there on the flood plains.
They say that this is necessary to reduce homelessness and to create jobs, but this is untrue because homelessness can be reduced by turning suitable old buildings into houses and work buildings, as well as reducing the housing costs. How would you like to be a wild animal and have your home destroyed for "economic reasons"?
27. Save the rainforest and the people!
Chevron a world company which resulted in an oilspill in the Amazon rainforest, which killed thousands possibly millions of animals and people living in the rainforest.
They also caused sorrow to and orphaned thousands more. Now they have vowed never to clean up their toxic mess. This is their mess and they should clean it up before any more lives are lost.
28. Do More To End Homelessness in the UK
I am appalled at the number of homeless people on the street and I am also appalled by the prejudice that these people face every day.
Things NEED to change for the better.
