1. Free School Meals for low income families
It is heart breaking hearing parents say that they do not send their kids to school because they have no money to give them for lunch or no food for a packed lunch.
It's saddening that children from low income families or single parents are not getting the education they need because there is no money for lunch.
I think the government should introduce Free School Lunches for children that do come from low income families and or single parents.
Children have the right the learn, they are our future. Don't we want children to be able to go to school and not grow hungry. They need their lunches to help them get through the day, and concentrate on their work. For some children that may be the only meal they have that day.
Better prepared children, means better test scores, brighter future for the children and the Australian society.
In the UK there is a system put in place, that if the child comes from a low income families and or single parents, that are entitled to any government support, they get free school meals.
Doesn't it make sense that the Australian government implements a similar system.
Please help us get the signatures for this issue to be take to the parliament, then hopefully we can help out those children that really do need it.
2. Longer lunches at Alameda Senior High School
Last year, at Alameda Senior High School, the staff and student body had a total of 45-50 minutes to enjoy the time between classes with a lunch period. This year (school year 08-09) the student body and staff have a mere 35 minutes to eat lunch.
The staff and students feel that the cut in the lunch period should be reinstated. After discussion with many of the staff members, and several students, 35 minutes is simply not enough time to have lunch. Standing in the lunch line at Alameda one volunteer commented, "It took 20 minutes just to get to the counter to purchase lunch, by the time I was able to sit down and eat, I had 5 minutes to eat my lunch."
Other High Schools in the district get between 40-50 minutes for lunch.
The circumstance under which our request should be granted are that the staff and students often go to class without a finished meal or finishing a meal.
3. Healthy but Delicious School Lunches!
School lunches are NASTY but healthy. Kids are complaining everyday.
Aache Junction High School has two lunches, A & B lunch. It used to be that freshman have there own lunch, and Sophomore's, Juniors, and Seniors share there own lunch.
This year things have changed, we still have A & B lunches, but now if you have any electives for fourth hour, you go to A lunch, and if you have English, Math, or World History for fourth hour, you go to B lunch. Now that wouldn't really be a problem to some people, but to most people, it would be a big problem, because there not with there friends, and classmates.
So I'm starting this petition to change lunches to freshmen and Sophomores for A lunch, and Juniors and Seniors for B lunch so we all could be with our friends and classmates, and it'll also make the lunch lines more shorter so we could have more time to eat.
5. Healthy Colorado School Lunches NOW!

At least 1 child in 4 in the U.S. today is seriously overweight, and that number keeps growing.
Over the last 20 years, the number of overweight children has increased by more than 50% and the number of extremely overweight children has nearly doubled.
40 million American children have abnormally high cholesterol levels. By the age of 12, an estimated 70% of U.S. children have developed the beginning stages of hardening of the arteries.
