LAKE action group is a community of local people who are committed to creating an accessible and enriching Lake environment for now and the future.
2. Continue Lake County Chorus
The Leesburg High School chorus has been threatened with cancellation should numbers not increase. The chorus department has been a major part in everyones life that has been a part of it. It has done more than created a family for its students but for the whole community.
Many groups await the annual performances of the Leesburg Highschool Chorus including our Madrigal dinner, concerts, and performances throughout the community.
Chorus gives the children a place to relax and be with people that love doing the same thing they do, sing and bring joy to others through dancing and the power of music not just in Leesburg High School but through all of the Lake County Schools.
3. Keep Tavares Police Department's Dispatch Center
This petition is to demonstrate to the Tavares City Council that the citizens of Tavares, employees of businesses located within the City of Tavares, and Tavares Police Department employees and their families want to keep the Police Dispatch Center in-house.
The City made this same move several years ago, and ultimately brought the dispatch center back in-house, investing in the most up-to-date technology and creating an eight person team, dedicated to providing the best service possible to the Citizens of Tavares and the Officers they rely on.
The loss of the dispatch center will not only impact the eight individuals who rely on their jobs, but also the Officers they support and the Citizens who depend on them for prompt and courteous assistance with their emergency and non-emergency needs.
Lake Ontario is one of the five interconnected Great Lakes, providing most of the drinking water for Canadians, and Americans. Despite its importance, being one of the few bodies of fresh water readily available, it is being misused and severely polluted.
Many are under the misapprehension that the sewage system is well monitored and that Lake Ontario is being used at a healthy and consistent rate. On the contrary, the water systems being utilized are not extremely reliable and are dumping a lot of waste and chemicals into the body of water. In fact, after the industrial revolution, Lake Ontario has gotten filthier and filthier that in the 21st Century, the change can actually be observed by the naked eye.
Lately, people have been fishing out garbage bags as well as toxic chemicals, the CBC even questioning whether or not Lake Ontario was always this polluted. If and increase in pollution continues, or remains at the current level, Lake Ontario will soon become unusable.
5. AT&T DSL Service for Lake Sam Rayburn, TX
If you live on Lake Sam Rayburn and are served by AT&T, you know that DSL service is unfortunately not available.
Your only alternatives are slow dial-up or expensive and restrictive satellite broadband such as Hughes Net and Wild Blue. Other communication providers like Windstream and Consolidated Communications provide service in their service areas on Lake Sam Rayburn but AT&T does not.
7. Support the Concord-LeRoy Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake County, Ohio
Currently the Painesville Area Chamber of Commerce servces the communities of Painesville City, Painesville Township, Grand River, Fairport Harbor, LeRoy Township and Concord Township.
The collective population of these communities from the 2000 Census is 60,964 and growing. The Lake County Ohio Business List includes more than 1600 businesses in the Painesville, PV Township, Grand River, Fairport Harbor, Leroy and Concord areas. There is an overworked staff of two that is managing service of these businesses as prospect members and those that are in their membership currently.
Concord and LeRoy Townships are growing. Land is being purchased for development and a Town Center Initiative is planned for both LeRoy and Concord. With the construction completion in 2009 of the surgical center for University Hospitals and the new Tri-Point Hospital for Lake Hospital Systems, there is a projected growth in Concord alone of an additional 200 - 500 businesses and homeowners within the next 3 - 5 years.
Concord and LeRoy Townships require a dedicated Chamber of Commerce regionally located and designed specifically to serve this growing area.
