1. Should Sikh TV launch on Virgin Media (Cable Operator in UK)

WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa
WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh

Dear Saadh Sangat,

With the grace of the True Guru and under the guidance of the eternal Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, we are delighted to announce the launch of a brand new digital television station – The Sikh TV.

We feel that many of the issues Sikhs face today around the world are not being actively resolved and will continue to spiral out of control unless steps are taken now to resolve them. The Sikh TV will aim to encourage unity and positivity amongst Sikhs so that we can tackle these issues together as one nation.

Despite being one of the newest world religions, Sikhs have a very rich and proud heritage spanning back over five centuries. However, over the past few generations, this has been lost amongst youth and elders alike. The Sikh TV will provide historical and factual programming and dig up the very roots that Sikhism has grown from.

As todays modern and western society continues to increase pressure on our youth, more and more Sikhs are giving up their identity and taking up consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other intoxicants. The Sikh TV will aim to educate and help our young generation to understand their faith in their language and offer soultions and guidance to the issues that affect them.

The Sikh TV will broadcast 24 hours, 7 days a week to audiences around the world from its base in the United Kingdom. Our aim is to provide spiritual and religious programmes that appeal to young and mature Sikh men and women, and inspire a Sikh way of life as inspired by the Ten Gurus. We will also be producing educational content for non-Sikhs and educational institutions.

The Sikh TV will give generations of Sikhs a platform to reach out and speak out on matters they feel strongly about. This will be a community television channel and we invite all Sikhs to get involved regardless of their age or gender.

We hereby humbly invite all Sikhs to offer their support and blessings for this project and participate by offering their ideas, opinion, comments and suggestions to make this endeavour a resounding success for the present and the future.

2. Reinstate Punjabi Hockey Broadcast

Punjabi is the fourth most spoken language in Canada after English, French and Chinese, according to an official census.

What began as a pilot project by CBC during the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals fired up Punjabis across Canada as they tuned in every week to watch NHL hockey games in Punjabi. Hockey Night in Canada's Punjabi Edition became a favorite past time for Punjabi families; an activity which was enjoyed by all generations of the family from Grandparents to Grandkids.

After the Punjabi broadcasts began, from within the community, stories were being shared about how the hockey games were bringing families together. Immigrant children had always wanted to watch hockey but older generations in the household did not always understand the game. Amazingly, youth, their parents, and grand-parents began watching the same show together, creating more family time and bringing generations together. Another incredible effect of the show was that new immigrants were getting a taste of Canadian culture. People who recently moved to Canada were able to learn the rules and partake in conversations about the sport at their work places, quickly becoming fans of the game.

The impact the broadcast has had on the community is tremendous, making South Asians feel more Canadian than ever before.

The Punjabi broadcasts were shown across Canada for free on Digital TV through Rogers, Shaw and Bell as well as online on cbcsports.ca. CBC has cited a lack of funding as the primary reason for cancelling the broadcast stating that online viewers reverted back to the regular English broadcast. However, the majority of viewers watched the Digital TV Punjabi broadcast rather than the online broadcast. CBC has yet to provide statistics for the Digital TV Broadcast.

Please sign this petition and send a message to CBC that Hockey Night in Canada’s Punjabi broadcast has tremendous support across Canada from the South Asian community.

3. We want 'Google Translate' in Gurmukhi

We want 'Google Translate' to create a Gurmukhi language.

Gurmukhi (Punjabi: ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ, Gurmukhī) is the most common script used for writing the Punjabi language. An abugida derived from the Laṇḍā script and ultimately descended from Brahmi, Gurmukhi was standardized by the second Sikh guru, Guru Angad Dev Ji, in the 16th century. The whole of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's 1430 pages are written in this script. The name Gurmukhi is derived from the Old Punjabi term "guramukhī", meaning "from the mouth of the Guru".

4. Release Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu

Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu has been falsely accused of taking part in "anti national activities" but the cases put against him are slowly being dropped at court hearings.

Bhai Daljit Singh has been conducting Panthic service for the Sikh Nation in a peaceful and Accountable manner for the last few years and has never caused any threat to Public life.

A number of Organisations have declared that they will be releasing posters/stickers of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale including AISSF (Mehta) lead by a Executive member of SGPC, SADA PP & BSSF jointly just recently again released 100,000 stickers of Sant Bhindranwale in Dec 09. Sikh Students Federation have released Posters from time to time, but none of the leaders have been arrested or silenced in this way!

The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) feels threatened by Bhai Daljit Singh's growing support amongst Sikhs, espically the youth and these false cases are simply put against Bhai Daljit Singh to defame and silence him.

Bhai Daljit Singh has been purposely arrested so that he will be unable to address the Sikh Nation and organise Sikhs to lead a Peaceful Civil Rights and awareness movement.

Bhai Daljit Singh was accused of "encouraging militancy" simply on the grounds of distributing Poster/Stickers.

This is a absurd allegation and Bhai Sahib should be released immediately.

The real reason for Bhai Daljit Singh's arrest has been to stop the on-going peaceful protest from Sri Damdama Sahib where 11 Sikhs peacefully court arrest every Sunday and this has been irritating the government for the last 10 months.

That is the true reason and the sticker claim is just a cover up of the "moment."
