31. Support for construct of trafic diversion island on the 1300 blk of S. Washington Street
The completed T-Rex and Light-rail project including a new light rail hub on Louisiana and south Washington street will have immediate impact on auto and pedestrian traffic directly impacting the saftey and quality of life of the residents of the 1300 blk od south Washing street. A perposial has beeb put forth by Robert Dorroh from CDOT to construct a traffic diversion island in the South intersection of S. Washington Street and Louisian to discourage neighboorhood access via South Washington Street. If this diversion were constructed, the only way to access the 1300 blk of S. Washington immediatly South of Louisiana would be from Arkansan on the South or a right turn from eastbound Louisiana. Traffic exiting Washington onto Louisiana would only be able to turn right and proceed eastbound.
In our school district, it is numbers that matter. Our teacher's placements are directed only based on their seniority level, not skill or attitude, simply seniority. Our band teacher has outdone every other one I have ever had. I live in a community of islands and it was not economical to hire a teacher for every single island. So, our teacher came up with the idea to create a floating band. Kids from 3 different islands get on the ferry, one after the other and for almost 4 hours we play and learn and create great relationships. Now our district is taking that away.
There is a proposal by the MTA to eliminate the 210 Kent Island/Annapolis to Baltimore (and Baltimore to Kent Island/Annapolis) commuter bus line by the end of June 2003.
34. 911 Phase II
The most recent tragedy that I have found happened January of 2003. Four boys drown when the rowboat that they were in sunk in frigid 33-degree waters of the Long Island Sound, just off the coast of New York City. The boys'; 12-second 911 call came through at 9:58 p.m. on Friday and begins: "We're on the Long Island Sound in a boat off the coast of the City, We're gonna die." The dispatcher entered the boys' call into a log and alerted her supervisor, but did not have enough specific information to enter the report into the police departments system, and did not notify the Harbor unit of what little information they had. The nearest boat or helicopter could have arrived in about 20 minutes. Department Officials said the boys might have died by then, but a U.S. Coast Guard official, Petty Officer Michelle Krupa, said the teens could have survived at least 30 minutes, and perhaps as long as two hours. Nearly a week after the boys' frantic call, the Coast Guard on Thursday called off the search because it was unlikely the teens would still be alive. The NYPD was continuing the search.
New York City's 911- system doesn't include technology that will allow dispatchers to pin point the origin of cell phone calls, as is the case for most cities. This technology is known as Emergency 911 Phase II, and would allow 911 operators to trace the location of an emergency call from a cell phone. Phase II coupled with improvements to state and county 911 Call Centers, is not required by Federal Regulators until 2005, but is available already in some parts of the country. Phase II can only work when local authorities, traditional phone companies, cell phone companies, and Federal regulators synchronize their efforts to produce a cohesive network.
With this conclusion I urge each and every one of you to sign my petition and have Emergency 911 Phase II made mandatory. By signing this petition, we the public can speak out for the lives that have been lost. Without us they have no voice. The FCC needs to put an end to the fighting. There is no reason people should die senselessly when the technology is already there. Money should not be an issue when a life is concerned.
My family and I have resided in Parker Island aka "Palm Haven Estates" located off County Rd 29, Lake Placid, FL, for 11 years. The best thing about the purchasing our home and land was for the "QUALITY OF THE GREATEST WATER AROUND". We have had the best drinking and cooking water here, until the beginning of 2003. Our water has been tainted due to the fact of excessive pumping from "Heartland Waters". This water is being pumped from my families backyard, the traffic of all hours is unbearable. Especially to those of us whom are waken from sleep due to the noise.
I have children that go to school everyday tired from a lack of sleep, I myself am a mason by trade and need sleep too. I noticed sand in the bottom of our glasses, and my fish tanks as well as my pool, which also brings on an uncontrolable amount of algea build up. I also notice in the bottom of a cup this am, of 03/11/2003 some type of grit and greenish colored substance. Which took bleach to remove the stain. I have never in the 11 years I have lived here needed bleach for my clothes (which are starting to yellow). Much less needed bleach for my dishes. Please don't forget about our personal cleansing I myself have finicky skin and even the softest soap such as Dove, Lever 2000 is rough on my skin. I feel that yes my neighbors are suffering from the same problems. This pumping is causing a road attached to my propety aka "Coots Road" to cave in. (Which the residents have chosen to claim as theirs and fenced it off). They are also dumping some type of fluid into the canal (county maintained) which is also attached TO MY LAND, which is discoloring the water. Keep in mind my children love to fish and do so in this now putrid canal. Which is being ruined by "Heartland Water" excessive pumping. I personally am going to be at a loss of a safe environment if this pumping continues. PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION AND SAVE "PARKER ISLAND"
Thank You Shara Michaelsen
36. Give Morrissey A Record Deal NOW
In 1997, Morrissey was dropped by the Mercury/Island label. Since then, he has been unable to find a suitable record label. Several US/UK labels have chosen to ignore Morrissey's work on the grounds that it does not fit in with what is popular or 'sells'.
In the meantime reality TV contestants - e.g. shows such as American Idol and Pop Idol (and including the 'runners-up') continue to have millions of pounds lavished on them.
Morrissey has a substantial audience across Europe and the US. He has had two number one UK albums as a solo artist, and continues to sell out large venues despite not having released anything for nearly six years.
The music industry should recognise such a talent instead of continually backing substandard artists on the basis of looks and image.
37. No Nurses In Staten Island Catholic Schools
In Sept 2002 school nurses were cut. Due to the goverment we have no school nurses in our Staten Island, NY catholic schools. This is very dangerous for all children.
38. send eisner to a small island filled with man eating segaulls
I dont like michel eisner! send him to a small island filled with man eating monkeys!
39. Cut ties with Northern Ireland now
Most people in the island of Britain want the north of Ireland to be reunited with the 26 counties.
This has been the case for over 30 years. The continuing governance over 6 Irish counties has cost the people of England, Scotland and Wales many lives, civilian and military, billions of pounds of taxes which would be better spent on education, health and welfare, and tarnished the name of these countries across the world.
We call for citizens of Britain to demand that 'northern Ireland' be reunited with the rest of Ireland, and allow the Irish people to follow their own path of self-determination.
We disown the activities of so-called 'loyalists' as being petty, backward and selfish. The activities of 'unionist' MPs throughout the 1980s in supporting the activities of the Thatcher government led to untold hardships in working class communities on this island.
We say end the 'link' now.
40. Liberate Donegal
The purpose of this petition is to re-dress the suffering that the people of Donegal have suffered since the government of the UK took the very wise step of partitioning the island of Ireland to ensure that the right of self-determination of the people of what is now called Northern Ireland was respected.
Unfortunately, when Northern Ireland was created, Donegal was not included in the part of Ireland that wished to stay in the UK. The problem since then has been that although Donegal is a large part of the geographical north of Ireland, it is not part of Northern Ireland. This causes great confusion as the people of Donegal are excluded from the commonly used term 'northerners' despite many of them living in the most northerly parts of the island. 'Northerners' is commonly used to describe the people of Northern Ireland.
This petition demands that this suffering should be put to an end, by making Donegal part of Northern ireland. The government of the Republic of Ireland should take immediate steps to hand over Donegal to the government of the UK, so that all the people in the geographical north of Ireland will become 'northerners' - ie citizens of Northern Ireland.
Note that this petition only calls for action re the county of Donegal. The people of Northern Ireland do not want county Monaghan because it is full of troublemakers.
