1. Free Young Chinese Girl's Mother from Prison

Please help Chinese girl, Cheng Li Ellison, free her mother from prison in China. Her mother is a Falun Gong practitioner; and the only crime she committed was distributing pamphlets about the practice of Falun Gong.

She was put in prison without trial or sentence, and no one is able to contact her. Cheng's father too afraid of the power of the government, so is unwilling to help - even the person is his own wife.

Cheng is now married to an Australian citizen and planned to bring out her parents to Australia with her; however now, that dream seems very far away.

Please help her bring her dreams closer to reality.

3. Free Liu Xiaobo

On December 8, 2008, authorities arrested prominent writer and PEN Member Liu Xiaobo after he co-authored Charter 08, a manifesto calling for greater freedoms and democracy in China, which was signed by hundreds citizens from all walks of life.

Liu was formally arrested and charged with "inciting subversion of state power" on June 23, 2009. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison. His case illustrates the lengths the Chinese government will still go to stifle free expression, and the determination of Chinese writers to fight for this most basic right. We stand with them in their struggle.

Take action now to help free Liu Xiaobo and send a message to the Chinese government that words are not a crime.

7. Amend the US National Anthem

April 27, 2005

The United States currently incarcerates more people than any other nation on the planet. One in thirty-two people in America has served time in prison. Yet, they continue to draft and enact legislation which can only be called "Vindictive Justice" and enables the judicial system to incarcerate even more of the citizens for even longer terms (eg., H.R. 1528 and Mandatory Minimums).

One of the last "advanced" civilizations to keep and practice the death-penalty, I think it's high time that they advertise their true colors more appropriately by amending the National Anthem to reflect the reality of the nation:

The current anthem contains the phrase: "Land of the free". This should be changed to "Land of the imprisoned".

This more approppraitely reflects the reality of the land.

9. International Transfer of Offenders Treaty

This petition is on matters concerning the International Transfer of Offenders Treaty. American prison authorities, both federal and state, have for years violated the Transfer of Offender Treaty rights, including the letter of the treaty, with discrimination, denials, injustices, lack of medical treatment, the list is not exhaustive. Our men and women are suffering so much so, that even their family and friends are feeling the atrocities caused by these prison administrators.
