1. BURCHELL WHITEMAN FOR GOVERNOR GENERAL
Burchell Whiteman has devoted his life to public service in Jamaica. He started his professional career more than 40 years ago as a teacher.
He was subsequently appointed to the position of Principal, first at York Castle High School in 1969, and then at Brown's Community College. As an educator, he was known throughout Jamaica as an innovative and respected member of the profession.
Burchell Whiteman began a new career as a politician in 1989 when he was first elected as a Member of the Jamaican Parliament and was immediately appointed Minister of State for Education. In 1992, he joined Cabinet as Minister of Education, Youth and Culture where he served for ten years before deciding not to run in the October 2002 election.
The Prime Minister then appointed him to the Senate and kept him in Cabinet as Minister of Information and Leader of Government Business in the Senate. Mr. Whiteman retired from politics, stepping down from the Senate, in 2006.
In early 2007, he was appointed Jamaica's High Commissioner to the U.K., and returned to Jamaica upon concluding his term at the end of 2009.
2. Prince William for Governor-General of Australia
Section 2 of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 (IMP) makes provision for a Governor‑General appointed by the Queen (on the advice of the Prime Minister) who shall be Her Majesty's representative in the Commonwealth.
Whereas the citizens of Canada have duly elected the Members of the 40th Parliament, and
Whereas the first session of the 40th Parliament was prorogued during a period of profound economic instability, while the Government resisted a coalition helmed by a Member whose continuing leadership of his Party was in question, and
Whereas no such economic or political crisis currently plagues Canada, and
Whereas the Prime Minister's prorogation request appears to be concerned more with insulating his Government from the scrutiny of Parliament than from serving the interests of Canada, and
Whereas proroguing Parliament is a direct threat to the function of Parliament and the will of the Canadian electorate:
4. L.Gen Romeo Dallaire for Governor General
As the Commander of UNAMIR, in his humanitarian and public service since, and as a senator, L.Gen Romeo Dallaire has proved himself to be the person able to stand up for human rights in today's complex world.
He is exactly the kind of man needed as Canada's Head of State.
-----------------------------------------------
5. Governor General must speak
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, agreed to the request of The Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, to suspend Parliament even though the Prime Minister did not have the confidence of Parliament.
6. Abolish the Governor General's authority in Canada
Canadian's have historically supported the role of the monarchy by a slim margin. Recent events in Canada had the GG making a political decision to maintain the current minority government against the desire of the parliamentary majority.
This flies in the face of responsible government and surely sets the stage for a petition of this nature.
As stated by Constitutional lawyer Allan Hutchinson, in the Toronto Star on December 4th, in his letter to the governor general:
as the monarchy's domestic representative, your constitutional duty has a definite political compass – to act in a way that best advances Canada's commitment to democracy. In both the substance of your decision and the process by which you make it, you must ensure that the wishes and interests of Canada's citizens, not its government, are best represented and promoted.
8. No Coalition - A Petition to The Governor General of Canada
Democracy in Canada?
The Opposition Parties in the House of Commons have agreed to sign an accord between themselves to form a majority government in early December of 2008.
This action will bring about a constitutional crisis.
Sign this petition demanding that the Governor General require that this issue be taken to the people of Canada by way of an election.
