91. They broke it. Make them pay to fix it!

They broke it. . . . Make them pay to fix it!

There is a crisis . . . but it is NOT a deficit or debt crisis.
  • There is an employment crisis because of a lack of decent stable jobs.

  • There is a moral crisis because the rich and well connected want the rest of us to pay for their irresponsible speculation, fraud and greed.

  • There is a crisis of democracybecause our political system is dominated by people with money rather than people with good ideas.
WORKING PEOPLE & THE POOR DIDN'T CAUSE THE CRISIS!
We've made our sacrifices. . . . We sacrificed our jobs, standard of living, health care, children's education, retirement security, the environment and the precious lives of our loved ones in wars.
WHAT HAVE THE PRIVILEGED ELITE SACRIFICED?

Let those who caused the crisis now make their sacrifices!

92. Support our Medical Residents

Since March 31, 2010, the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec has been trying to bring the government to recognize that the work conditions and remuneration of medical residents are suboptimal. During the same period, the ministry hasn’t hesitated a bit to sign agreements with medical specialists, family physicians, and other health professionals. But, for Quebec residents, nothing yet.

The government refuses to recognize the 37 % gap between Quebec residents’ remuneration and that of their colleagues in the rest of Canada.

The government refuses to compensate medical residents financially for the teaching activities they supervise, as it is the case for other health professionals.

The government refuses to increase medical residents’ call duty premium at its fair value.

The government refuses to pay overtime to medical residents.

This situation has become unacceptable for medical residents.

93. Stop the Police Cuts

Action needs to be taken and the time is now.

94. Empower the police to stop the riots

The riots starting in London and across the UK are due to opportunistic criminals who are an embarrassment to our country. Innocent citizens are paying the price, homes are being burnt down and livelihoods lost. We have a history of criticising our own police who in turn are afraid to use the necessary force required in these critical situations.

The police are putting their lives at risk and are not receiving the recognition or support they deserve. The media are quick to publicise negative stories about the police but this is not what the majority of the population feel. Most of the public are supportive of the police and this is the opportunity to be heard.

This aim of this petition is to show the government and police that they have our FULL support to use whatever measures necessary to keep order in this country.

95. Create a Community Health Centre for Markham and Richmond Hill

The diverse communities of Markham and Richmond Hill urgently need access to the integrated model of community-based health care offered by Ontario's Community Health Centres (CHCs).

CHCs are the only primary health care services in Ontario that bring together family physicians, nurses and other health professionals under a single roof to provide team-based care, combined with a wide range of other health promotion and community development services. This comprehensive approach is exactly what is required in Markham and Richmond Hill where there are so many different populations with complex needs -- especially the thousands of newcomers to Canada whose health is often at risk because of factors beyond their control.

Inter-professional health teams providing services from a new Community Health Centre based in Markham would respond to the individual health issues faced by members of these communities. The CHC would also create programs and services that address the wider range of non-medical factors -- the "social determinants of health" -- that are negatively impacting community wellbeing. All of these services would be culturally-appropriate and carefully tailored to respond to the diverse needs of the many different communities living in Markham and Richmond Hill. Other benefits of the new Community Health Centre will include:

* Increasing access to primary health care for those who do not currently have a primary care provider;

* Empowering patients to take charge of their own health through health education, health promotion and disease prevention programs;

* Reducing visits to local hospital Emergency Rooms and reducing costly and avoidable hospital admissions by providing timely access to preventive health care;

In other parts of the GTA, residents are already benefiting from Community Health Centres that deliver integrated and seamless health and social services to a wide range of populations with complex needs. People living in Markham and Richmond Hill, with similar complex needs, deserve access to the same integrated, high-quality services.

The UK Disabled Community needs to send a clear and unequivocal message in one unified voice to call on the Coalition Government to see us all as equal members of society and not treat us as a tool to steal our disability benefits and services to bail out the Country in this time of Financial Crisis.

Can we set a precedence to get 1 million signatures so that the Coalition Government will have no option but to take note of us and not just ignore or deflect our arguments & comments and to stop building this climate of hate against disabled people.

Please leave a question for your Local MP to pose to the Coalition Government, which we will add to the Petition when we deliver it to No.10.

97. Our Government should Support Australian Manufacturers

The Australian Government is awarding contracts for the manufacture of uniforms for Government Agencies such as Defence, Fire, Police and Emergency Services where either the fabric and/or garment is made overseas. In most cases the products purchased overseas are inferior in quality to what can be produced in Australia.

THESE OVERSEAS COMPANIES CONTRIBUTE NOTHING TO THE AUSTRALIAN ECONOMY!

Example links below:

Contracts are often awarded to overseas manufacturers based on price, however the overseas manufacturers do not have to meet the same strict manufacturing standards as enforced on Australian based companies e.g Compliance to EPA and OHS Legislation, Government legislated taxes and entitlements such as Minimum Wage Rates, Payroll tax, Superannuation, Sick Leave, Rural Fire Service Levies, Long Service Leave, Maternity Leave. Compliance with all of these requirements comes at a cost that the Australian Government does not take into account when comparing value for money in their contract decisions.

100. Funding to public libraries in Victoria MUST NOT be cut!

From The Age, 14th July 2011:

"State government plans to slash library funding
Reid Sexton

VICTORIA'S public libraries could face shorter opening hours and cuts to internet services and other projects after a Baillieu government decision to slash funding.

The multimillion-dollar cut to operating costs has left councils scrambling to make up the shortfall, with the Municipal Association of Victoria saying the revelation came as a shock.

The association says it will leave councils with around $5.7 million less to spend on libraries over the next four years while opposition local government spokesman Richard Wynne has warned it will punish some of the poorest people in Victoria.

Councils and regional library corporations, which are run as joint ventures by regional councils, learnt about it in a letter sent as part of the Public Libraries Grant Program earlier this month.

The letter was written by Local Government Victoria, which is part of the Department of Planning and Community Development, and outlined how much libraries were to receive from the program over the next four-year funding period.

Municipal Association of Victoria president Bill McArthur said the cut was the result of the government reducing the overall funding amount and removing its indexation.

Mr McArthur said the loss would affect IT services and staffing, raising the possibility of reduced opening hours.

''We are surprised and shocked because there was no notification, no consultation it was just one letter that said … [funding] has decreased,'' he said.

''They [have] failed to consider the impact on communities or library services.''

Recent departmental figures show Victoria has around 290 permanent libraries and 26 mobile libraries, with 2.5 million Victorians members of their local libraries.

In March Local Government Minister Jeanette Powell said the Coalition was a strong advocate for improving libraries in Victoria.

And in a 2006 policy statement, the then Liberal opposition said Labor provided a ''miserable'' 19.9 per cent of the overall cost of running public libraries.

But Mr McArthur said that figure had slipped to 19.2 per cent in the 2009-10 financial year and was likely to fall further under the new arrangements.

''The government has made a number of statements that says it supports libraries and that it recognises them as important community assets, but their actions don't support those words,'' he said.

Numerous councils have expressed deep concern over the cut, with City of Hobsons Bay mayor Michael Raffoul saying it would cost the municipality at least $19,000 this financial year alone.

Moreland City acting mayor Alice Pryor said it would leave the council around $25,000 short this year. She said the council would have to look at cutting back staff levels and projects like Live in the Library, where musicians perform in the municipality's five libraries.

''That amount is half of someone's wage,'' she said.

''In … parts of our city, we are well below the average with people with computers at home.

''We do our best to provide those services but it's hard when our funding is cut.''

Mr Wynne said the cut would affect those people who used a library to access services they could otherwise not afford.

''This is a cruel cut which means that core services of libraries will be diminished,'' he said.

It is understood the government will provide around $32 million in operational funding over the next four years.

A government spokesman did not respond directly to the association's concerns but said it had provided around $55 million in the budget for library upgrades, funding and key programs such as the Premier's Reading Challenge.

Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/state-government-plans-to-slash-library-funding-20110713-1hdyf.html#ixzz1S4vtHzRh"

Public libraries are an integral part of local communities and offer services and facilities that benefit everybody - not least those who cannot afford such things themselves. From 'Dollars, sense and public libraries: The landmark study of the socio-economic value of Victorian public libraries' (March 2011):

"Victorian public libraries return $3.56 for every $1 spent."

With such a return, how can any funding cuts possibly be justified...much less considered, in light of the incredible benefits public libraries bring to communities? The full report can be accessed here: http://www.publiclibrariesvictoria.net.au/sites/default/files/20110318%20SL_PublicReport_LoRes_FINAL_1.pdf

Let's band together to ensure the Baillieu Government understands what is at stake here - and that Victorian residents will not support this decision!

101. Free Francis Fernie

On 07/07/2011, York based student Francis Fernie was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Francis was involved in the anti-cuts protests that took place on March 26th in London.

When police attacked the crowd outside Fortnum and Mason, Francis was hit repeatedly (including over the head) by police batons.

In a moment of 'hot headedness', Francis threw two placard sticks towards a crowd of heavily armoured police officers.

It has not been proven that he hurt anybody.

Frank is a hard working student, with no previous offences, a solid background in voluntary and community work and to everyone that knows him, he is a brother.

Frank should not be in prison.

It is easy to see that Frank's sentence is disproportionate to the crimes that he has commited and his background is one of lifelong kindness.

102. STOP taxpayer abuse

One specific disturbing area of taxpayer abuse comes from the Department of Heritage and Official Languages.

It’s budget in 2010 was 3.1 BILLION – yes billion dollars of your money. We want you to know to whom that tax money was given.

Here are some "benefactors"; a group called FACTOR received $8.7 million to funnel to friends and music type projects. Factor funded a Vancouver punk rock “band” to produce an album titled Holy S*!t which contained very offensive content and graphics.

Another organization, Telefilm, received $104 million dollars last year. In the past couple of years it has funded films most Canadians would consider objectionable, including Young people F…ing, The Masturbators and The Year of the Carnivore (1.2 million ), the latter of which we question whether it contains child pornography images.
Funding for both these groups seems to given with no proper accountability or review.

The Canadian Council for the Arts received $183 Million and the National Film Board $69 Million, both annual recipients of millions of your dollars.

The CBC also received about $1.1 billion from Heritage budget last year, with a promise of more this year.

Heritage department policy and objectives state that it funds sustainable projects. The laundry list of recipients that receive money over and over is long and objectionable. Sustainable funding of unsustainable arts projects is a violation of Heritage policy. James Moore publicly bragged about how his government had given more money to the arts community in 2010 than any other government.

Canada has record debt and a large budget deficit. Taxpayers cannot afford this kind of waste.

103. Compensate the Visser family for invasion by government highway

The Visser family purchased their property 41 years ago because it was located out of town in a quiet place. Now, due to a new highway being built on three sides of their home, they no longer have the peace they once had, nor the value of their home. On two sides of the home there are giant ramps and a traffic circle and on the third side there is a giant overpass surrounding the home.

No attempt has been made by the government or any highway officials to compensate or purchase any of the Visser family property.

The government that we help fund has ruined our property and it's value and then tells us “We are perfectly within our rights”. Is it right to devalue a person’s home and property to nothing, let alone to make living there unbearable and dangerous? If we could sell and move we would have already, however we have been advised by our real-estate agent that our home is essentially unsellable. We have never felt so betrayed by our own government.

When we asked the government employee we spoke with how they would like to live where we live (surrounded on three sides of our home by highway), they replied” Mrs. Visser, I wouldn’t live there.”

When the government first mentioned twinning the highway, they assured us that if the noise became a problem, that they would put up a privacy sound wall to protect us. That never happened. Now, they say that they don’t have the funds for that. We have been told that such a privacy wall could cost over a million dollars to construct. Honestly though, which option makes more sense to the tax payers; 1) Buy our property and stop ruining our home life, or 2) spend approximately $1,000,000 to build a wall. It doesn’t seem like that difficult of a decision to make.

We have been very understanding about the necessary construction going on and have tried to be quiet and respectful about the situation we have been unfairly thrown into. However, it has now become unbearable, and simply unfair that we have been left with no options. Surely someone can understand and address this injustice.

Please sign our petition if you support our situation and our request for fairness. Thank you very much.

104. Stop Tasmanian Catholic school funding cuts

The Tasmanian Government announced in the 2011 - 2012 State budget that it intends to directly cut funding to Tasmanian Catholic schools by 5%.

Further to this, because the Tasmanian Department of Education is facing significant budget cuts as a whole, the flow on effect to Tasmanian Catholic schools will potentially be ANOTHER 5%.

This means parents, grandparents and carers may face significant school fee increases.

This could amount to 10 - 14% school fee INCREASES in real terms.

Please support the Tasmanian Catholic Parents and Friends Federation by sending a clear message to the Tasmanian Minister for Education and Skills, Hon. Nick McKim that breaking the funding agreement (1998) on state support to the Tasmanian Catholic education sector is not only UNFAIR it will be political suicide for both Labor and the Greens.

Parents that send their children to a Catholic school actually save the Tasmanian government $5512 based on recurrent expenditure per student (Report on Government Services 2007 - 08).

Fee increases this significant could result in potentially Catholic school families moving their children to the State school system, creating even great financial strain on the Department of Education.

105. BMH UK campaign - deletion of innocent records from Police National Database

This online petition is calling for a commitment from Government for ensure that the Protection of Freedoms Bill ensures that the records of all innocent people are deleted from the Police National Computer (PNC) and Police National Database (PND) at the same time that their DNA is deleted.

Unless the PNC and PND records are deleted at the same time as well as any photos, up to a million innocent people will still retain the status of a criminal.

These records can be used to refuse someone a visa or a job simply because they have a record of arrest. This can also lead to stigma and discrimination when accessed by officers on the beat.

For the past three years Black Mental Health UK has been campaigning against the way the DNA database has criminalised black Briton.

The DNA profiles of 37% of black men and 77% of young black men, aged between 15 and 34, have been estimated to be on the National DNA Database. Every black family in Britain is affected.

The way DNA has been collected also means that innocent mental health service users who are also currently profiled on the database and have been criminalised by this system, simply because they were sectioned under the Mental Health Act, when they were in need of mental health care and ended up in police custody.

Changes need to be made to the Protection of Freedoms Bill to include the deletion of innocent people’s police records and photographs at the same time as their DNA and fingerprint records.

106. Support Government Expense Transparency

Government Expense Accounts exist to fund MPs' and Senators' travel, hospitality, and other expenses directly related with their work. It's funded by Taxes and therefore should be spent responsibly, and the money spent should be transparent to the tax payers.

There was already National Public demand for this; on May 14th, 2010, the Auditor General Sheila Fraser was denied access to the expense account, MPs denied using the expense account beyond its intended purpose, but their defenses brought up more suspicion of irresponsible spending.

All four parties voted against allowing the auditor general access to the accounts. This happened in the wake of a scandal involving British MPs whose expense accounts had revealed irresponsible spending.

Testimonials from Liberal MP Michelle Simson, while she was a guest on the Roy Green Show, reveal that the expense accounts are not being used responsibly; most notable was an NDP MP who charged a parking ticket to their expense account. She has made her expense account spending transparent, and is alone in the crusade for all MPs to do the same, being silenced by her party for it.

108. Support Nationalisation of the energy sector within the UK

Scottish Power has revealed that it intends to implement a 19% increase in the price of gas and a 10% rise in the price of electricity, this is on the back of an increases in November 2010.

These increases are likely to be mirrored by the other big 6 energy suppliers in the UK. The most disturbing factor about these rises is that it comes on the back of record profits post by the likes of British gas who raked in £742million in 2010 which translates to a whopping 24 per cent rise helped by a price hike of 7% at the start of the coldest winter for decades, to make matters worse this rise occurred just weeks after a half yearly report showed that profits had double for like for like sales.

British gas is not the only company within the energy sector announce record profits with Npower also posting a 9% increase in profits after issuing an average 5% rises in both gas and electricity prices with Scottish power posting a massive £1.2 billion.

These prices are way above the rate of inflation and while Scottish power is the only energy supplier to have yet to announce its intention to increase prices which will take effect in august 2011, I think it’s a fair assessment that the others will follow suit as they seem to be one big cartel, while they may not share profits with each other, they do aid each other in the creation of profits by posting price hikes across the board. For example now that Scottish power has announced its intention to increase its price for 2011 it opens the door for further increases in prices albeit at varying levels. The ability to shop around does not guarantee a fair price; it only offers you the ability to choose how far over the odds you are willing to pay.

It is my opinion that the energy sector is in every way as important as the health and defence sectors of this country and without which none of us could survive and neither would we stand by and see them privatised. The Nationalisation of the energy sector would help to safe guard the future of the United Kingdom.

It is not beyond the realms of realism to believe that a nationalised energy sector could work effectively and with the knowledge that any profits posted will be returned back into the system to help improve the standard of living within the UK.

111. The Revolution in Yemen

The Egyptian and the Tunisian revolutions have given an insight and a motivation for the young Yemeni people to find their way to overthrow the regime that managed to isolate its population from the rest of the world leaving the country behind with sever developmental challenges.

The Yemeni sluggish economy is still drowning in its debts under the justification of the war on terror. Huge loans were misused for the favor of a corrupt government ignoring the country's low level of human development.

For more than ninty days, a combination of young, old, educated and illiterate Yemenis from all over the country have been protesting to bring down the dictatorship ruled by President Saleh, the first and the only president of the Republic of Yemen. Saleh argues that the unified Republic is his own accomplishment and replacing him is certain risk to this unification.

Throughout his speeches, Saleh has been trying to increase the hatred among the Yemeni population to serve his own interest and to gain longer time to drain the determination of the protesters. He has manipulated few to demonstrate for him by paying them from unknown questionable sources.

112. Give us a Referendum on Proportional Representation

The public are unhappy with the current voting system and the proposed AV system is too complicated and of little interest to the majority of the public as will be shown by today's low turn out. The public have become disenfranchised with politics and our patriotism has been shaken.

Many other countries with excellent governments and economies use Proportional Representation voting systems such as Party List Voting, e.g. Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Portugal and South Africa. It can be implemented simply with little if no additional costs. Other PR systems are still in use in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Germany on of the strongest economies in Europe. Voting turn out is getting lower and lower every election, the public are not happy with the current situation and revolts will become more common.

The public need to know and SEE their votes and opinions count, AV is not enough and people think you are not listening to them. They need honest politics where a coalition works together and is honest when they dislike or like the others policies. Please give us a referendum on PR so we can show you how we feel and listen to the results so we know you have our interests at heart.

Several Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec) provide a public auto insurance system while in the rest of the country insurance is provided privately.

Basic auto insurance is mandatory throughout Canada with each province's government determining which benefits are included as minimum required auto insurance coverage and which benefits are options available for those seeking additional coverage. Accident benefits coverage is mandatory everywhere except for Newfoundland and Labrador.

All provinces in Canada have some form of no-fault insurance available to accident victims. The difference from province to province is the extent to which tort or no-fault is emphasized. Typically, coverage against loss of or damage to the driver's own vehicle is optional.

115. Human Trafficking: Help Raise Awareness and Bring it Before Parliament!!

Human Trafficking is a very profitable industry for those involved. But the people being trafficked are often stripped of their rights and freedoms and become 2nd class citizens to their captors. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.

Revenue from trafficked persons is estimated to be between 5 to 9 billion US dollars per year. In Canada, the RCMP estimate that 600-800 people are trafficked into Canada annually and that an additional 1,500 to 2,200 people are trafficked through Canada into the United States.

Many of the people being trafficked are either women or children, that are then funneled into other industries such as free labour market and prostitution.

If we can get enough people to sign this we can get this topic raised during parliament. This is all about raising awareness and getting the Canadian Government to do more for this pressing issue.

116. SAY NO! to CARBON TAX AUSTRALIA. ELECTION NOW

GILLARD BREAKS ELECTION PROMISE

During the 2010 Election Labor's Julia Gillard and her deputy Wayne Swan made the promise that they would not introduce a carbon tax if elected to Government.

Gillard broke that promise in the last week of February 2011 and Australians are very disappointed and angry that once again they face the prospect of increased prices.

More importantly Australians have reacted angrily that they have been treated with such contempt and let down by the head of Australia - the Prime Minister. It is a tax that will hurt every single Australian: electricity bills alone for the average family will go up by over $300 a year. But the real cost will be far greater than just electricity prices. The price of everyday day items will increase as the costs on doing business – transport, production and so on – will rise. This is simply another grab for cash by a wasteful government that will do nothing to address climate change.

SIGN OUR PETITION AND HELP SEND CANBERRA A STRONG MESSAGE: AUSTRALIA CAN NOT AFFORD THIS TAX!

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_193063764071722&ap=1

Follow NO_CARBON_TAX on Twitter

10 top reasons why Carbon Tax is wrong and utterly pointless.....It is a green ideological tax for social engineering under the guise of dangerous climate change. It is unnecessary, ineffective, and hugely damaging to Australian families and our industry.....

1. Deceitful: Julia Gillard pledged before the election to not introduce a Carbon Tax. Our government must not be allowed to contemptuously disregard key pre-election pledges to not introduce contentious revolutionary schemes, if elections are to have any meaning.

2. Misleading: The Carbon Tax or Pollution Tax is a tax on a pure gas, carbon dioxide or CO2, not carbon soot or general pollution, as dishonestly implied by these terms. CO2 is not pollution and does not need to be reduced in the first place, it is a natural trace gas we all exhale and is needed by plants to grow, notwithstanding its greenhouse effect.

3. Unnecessary: Fear of dangerous Global Warming from man-made CO2 is dissipating with more recent scientific evidence and exposure of much bias, exaggeration of dangers and neglect of benefits of warming in existing scientific consensus. Any warming from CO2 is likely to be a harmless < 1 Deg Celsius by 2100. Higher predictions are only computer model speculations, arguably due to the modeller’s confessed ignorance of natural climate cycles.

4. Obsolete: Most big countries are retreating from carbon pricing and from the many ineffective and expensive green schemes. These schemes have not even achieved net CO2 reductions, nor created net green jobs or economic benefits as claimed by proponents (Spain, Germany, USA etc).

5. Isolated: Big emitter countries such as China, Japan and USA have decided against renewing the Kyoto Protocol or significantly cutting their CO2, despite greenwash projects. Australia’s isolated sacrifice is thus utterly pointless.

6. Worthless: Even if CO2 were dangerous and we reduced it successfully in Australia or even globally, there is no physical evidence that it would have a significantly beneficial effect on climate.

7. Ineffective: Economists predict that a carbon price in Australia will just move carbon emissions to the other countries with smaller or no carbon price, especially as we export ever more coal to be burned elsewhere, termed ‘carbon leak’; this is what happened in Europe under Kyoto protocol.

8. Disingenuous: If Greens really believed a Climate catastrophe was approaching, they would surely concede to the lesser evil of building more dams and more nuclear plants. In fact, theirs is a primarily political agenda.

9. Damaging: After Labor’s record of green and general disasters of insulation bats, solar rebates, cash for clunkers, green loans, BER, Hospitals and NBN, it is optimistic in the extreme to expect anything but a disaster to come out of the complex Carbon Tax.

10. Premature: Conversion to a self-sufficient, renewable energy based economy should happen as technological developments bring efficient solutions, not by forcing gigantic schemes using current inefficient technology with huge public subsidies.

118. Save The Phoenix Centre!

The Phoenix Youth Centre in Prestwich is in risk of being closed down by the Bury council. The Phoenix is there to give support to teens that need it, people with problems with their sexualities, home life, school life and problems in general.

The Phoenix supply's the teens of the local areas with support, fun, something to do, somewhere to make friends and keeps them out of trouble. They also provide an after school and breakfast club for primary school students which are both very popular and helpful to the local working parents, they also support the local children with disabilities.

If this facility is closed down, their is no alternative for the people that need it and their needs will be unmet.

119. Call on the Government to Create a Dedicated Minister for Older People

Older people are fast becoming one of the largest groups in the United Kingdom: the country now has a greater number of people aged 60 and over than it does people aged 16 and under.

Life expectancy will only continue to increase, and our Government will face significant challenges as it prepares to serve the ageing population. The UK has no choice but to ensure that older people can live comfortably and enjoy dignity and respect in their later years.

Despite making up 40% of voters, there is no Government minister dedicated to the well-being of older people. Theresa May MP is Minister for Women; Sarah Teather MP is Minister of State for Children and Families, but as it stands, older people’s issues are scattered throughout various Government departments. What is sorely lacking is a centralised Government portfolio that prioritises the needs of older people and ensures that their views and interests receive dedicated attention.

Many governments around the world, including those of Ireland and Canada, currently have a dedicated Minister for older people, and it is high time the UK followed suit. Both Wales and Northern Ireland have appointed an Older People’s Commissioner, but all older people living in the UK deserve a centralised ministerial post that looks after their needs.

Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of care and housing, represents 42,000 older people and believes that they are our national treasure – people to be proud of; people to respect; people who deserve someone at the highest level to look after their interests.

We, therefore, call on our Government to provide real leadership for the UK’s older people: to listen to their issues, give voice to them, and help all UK citizens enjoy happy living in the years ahead.
