1. Polytechnic Students Should NOT Pay Adult Travel Fares - SINGAPORE

Currently, students from polytechnics and universities pay twice as much in bus fares compared to their peers in junior colleges (JCs) and Institutes of Technical Education (ITE), who are classified as post-secondary-level.

Polytechnic students, who in all technicalities are doing their post secondary studies, are considered tertiary education students. We end up paying adult fare! Our counterparts in junior colleges get to enjoy the subsidies while we are denied the subsidies.

"With the comparison of MRT concession pass between JCs and Polytechnics, JC student pay about $25 while Polytechnic student pay about $45 per month for the same service." Quoted from Edison Lim's Speech, titled : Student Rate For All Polytechnic Students.

Even as a soon to be polytechnic student, he/she would too have started paying adult fares even before entering a polytechnic. He/she is no longer given student subsidies, even though their age is clearly below that of an adult.

What is most absurd is that, when queried by MP for Nee Soon GRC about student concessions on trains and public buses, the Transport Minister Mr. Lui Tuck Yew, response was that it would cost transport operators $28 million more per year.

Can’t the government fork out the $28 million dollar per year, to provide subsidies for polytechnic students who are doing post-secondary studies? Isn’t the job of the government to provide for the welfare of its people? And would a $28 million pay cut from SMRT’s $895.1 million, or SBS’s $720 Million, affect them? I think not.

4. Stop ACTA Before it Stops you

Don't take my word alone for what ACTA is really threatening. Go look it up. Search it on google. Look at the injustice. We must fight for our right to have privacy on our personal computers. We should fight for our right to not be monitored every time we switch on our computers.

Just because a few people with deep pockets are angry with the internet, doesn't mean that the government has the right to take away our constitutional rights.

Like I said don't take my word for it, go see what the news and your searches and everything else tells you.

5. Let UK citizens vote in a Scotland Idependance Referendum

I believe this is the ideal opportunity to decide what United Kingdom citizens collectively wish to happen with regard to Scottish Independence.

It costs the UK billions every year to support Scotland. Similarly Scotland would be left with huge debt following separation.

The implications are serious for all UK citizens so it should be the decision of all United Kingdom citizens.

Cheng is now married to an Australian citizen and planned to bring out her parents to Australia with her; however now, that dream seems very far away.

9. Revise the Land Development Code Proposal for Trees in New SJC Developments

southern magnolia blossom

NO MORE SIGNATURES FOR THE MOMENT, PLEASE. WE'RE PRINTING THEM OFF FOR SUBMISSION TO THE COUNTY. STAY TUNED AND THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST!

In November 2011, the Environmental Division of St. John County, FL, proposed modifications to the Land Development Code. The proposed changes can be viewed at:

http://www.co.st-johns.fl.us/GrowthManagement/media/LDCOH112011.pdf

While many of the changes dealing with planting standards for trees represent an improvement over the current code, the requirements for tree density (expressed as tree-inches) are inadequate. Specifically Section 4.01.05.F of Article IV dealing with tree-inch requirements for permits for new residential construction or new residential buildings on lots reduces the required number to half. We believe this number is inappropriate and does not take into consideration the varying amounts of permeable land among zones of different densities (R2, R2, R3). We believe the new standard should be research-based and provide for optimum benefit from landscaping utilizing trees.

This petition requests that the 2011 proposed amendments to the Land Development Code (LDC) be modified to reflect research-based findings regarding tree usage in residential lots and developments. We believe the proposed standard of 40 tree-inches per acre is inappropriate and not flexible enough to provide adequate tree cover for a full spectrum of residential properties of varying densities. In cases where the standard is not met, penalties or mitigations should be invoked. We also believe that the LDC should promote the use of wind-resistant and native species.

Thanks for signing the other petition, to continue protections for the Red Cedar in the Land Development Code We've been told by the County that the protections will be reinstated. If you still want to sign as a symbolic gesture, you are free to do so.

11. End the long process to bad renter evictions in Florida

In Florida, renters have too many rights. Rights that extend above the landlord. The eviction process should only take 1-2 weeks if the renter does not pay. They should not be allowed to stay in a property for free until the courts decide whether or not to evict them.

Presently, to delay matters, renters only need to respond without paying any money to stay longer in a home. Where is the justice in this? A simple response to the court can delay getting them out for another few weeks. Meanwhile, they can do as much damage to your property as they like and not be responsible. Again, where is the justice in this? Florida courts need to be more proactive in the eviction process.

Fort Myers courts, in general need to listen to landlords when they show up to court on time and the renter does not. In other states when a renter does not show up for court they are evicted and not given a second chance. Why is it in Flroida they are given a second chance?

Tap water is regulated almost daily by your towns treatment facility, most bottled water is packed and shipped within your state which removed it from testing. Thus, you are drinking untested water. 15. Stop Denmark's Blood Shame !

Every year the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins in Faroe Island in Denmark are slaughtered and the main participants are young teens.

WHY?

A celebration, to show that they are adults and mature! In this big celebration, nothing is missing for the fun. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or looking at the cruelty supporting like a spectator.

Is it necessary to mention that the dolphin Calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it's near extinction and they get near men to play and interact in a way of PURE friendship.

The dolphins don't die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hooks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim cry like that of a new born child. But he suffers and there's no compassion while this magnificent creature slowly dies in its own blood!

18. Save Our Valley

*This is an online version of a petition launched on 5th October 2011, by Hangleton & Knoll Councillor, Brian Fitch.*

Did you know that Brighton & Hove’s Green Council plans to allow a local green open space, Toads Hole Valley, to be concreted over and developed into Housing?

Due to changes to the planning law by the Coalition Government, a host of safeguards have been removed & replaced with a ‘presumption to build’. Gone, for example, are rules which prioritised brown-field sites first for development.

In light of these changes, the Green Council have perversely decided to give developers the green light to concrete over green space & build housing on Toads Hole Valley.

We are deeply opposed to these planning changes, as well as the Green Council’s plans to give the go-ahead for Toads Hole Valley to be concreted & built on.

That is why we are campaigning for Brighton & Hove’s Green Council to reverse their decision.

19. Tell Canada to "Show Up" for Health

From October 19-21, 2011, over 100 Member States of the United Nations will be formally participating in the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Among the delegates will be numerous heads of state and, at last count, over 60 Ministers of Health and other senior Government Ministers from around the world -- including Ministers from other G8 countries.

The Government of Canada is currently refusing to send its Minister of Health and/or other senior Cabinet Ministers to this key global meeting. The absence of Canada's Prime Minister and other federal Ministers from this world conference will send a dangerous message that neither the health of Canadians nor global cooperation to improve health in other countries are priorities for the Government of Canada.

---------------------------------
OCT 21 UPDATE: On October 20, Canada's Minister of Health was asked, in the House of Commons, why she decided not to participate in the global meeting. See video for question and response (English translation of questions provided below).

TRANSLATION OF QUESTION: "Mr. Speaker, this week 118 countries are meeting in Brazil to develop a plan of action on the social determinants of health. However, this government (Canada) is not attending. In Canada, 20% of health care spending is attributable to preventable social causes of illness such as inadequate housing and poverty. The World Health Organization recognizes that social inequities result in inequities in health. The costs are astronomical. Can the Minister of Health explain why she is not at this important international meeting."

20. Defend Constitutional Government

According to the Oath of Office (Charter Section 3.6), every elected public servant swears to “defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of North Carolina” and to faithfully perform their duties of the offices they were entering, “so help me, God.”

When this Oath of Office is violated by public servants, it is the Right of the People to petition for a redress of grievances and to hold those in the public trust accountable to their actions and behaviors in the course of executing their sworn duties. Nevertheless, public recourse cannot be exercised for any “light and transient causes”; rather, demonstrated abuses, of power not delegated, detrimental to the rule of law, endangering the People to even further gross encroachments against their “unalienable Rights” to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”, must therefore be delineated as evidence of just cause.

1. Session Law 2009-257, Senate Bill 570, Section 3.2 – The Mayor was denied as the “Official head of the Town government” to “preside at all meetings of the Town Council” and the Deputy Sheriff was illegally ordered to escort him out of the facility – which was not executed. 2. NC General Statute 132-6, Inspection and Examination of Records – Records were secreted and/or tampered with, pertaining to alleged embezzlement up to $400,000 (1999-2006); Records were not duly forthcoming when formally requested by the Mayor, who as a citizen, was also denied access. 3. 23. Don't Force Churches To Accept Gay Civil Unions

On the 8th September 2011, it was revealed that the English government wanted to force all UK Christian churches to accept gay unions.

After reading these call to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in regards of the idea to make Christian Churches comply with "same sex unions" or face a ban on marriages.

This idea seriously resembles one of a Communist or Fascist. This idea is a huge attack on religious liberty. It's like they're saying that churches are not allowed to disagree with homosexuality or have a stance against it, or otherwise face legal consequences. All in the name of "equality". It's like they're removing their right to disagree. In politics, if a government forcefully removes the right of an institution or an individual to disagree with the state, then that automatically meets the definition of Authoritarianism.

In the United States, even where same-sex marriage is legal, religious institutions have legal protection against having to recognize or perform it. However what they are proposing is that the government should basically trample on the rights of Christian churches and force them to accept civil unions or face legal penalties for refusing to do so. That is not "liberalism" or there so called idea of "equality", it's merely using legal force to keep people in line to your ideas (authoritarianism).

In the USSR there was plenty of "equality", likewise there is in China, North Korea, Vietnam, etc. All of these states had policies which persecuted and suppressed Christians for the sake of "equality", again identical to what you are doing.

We believe that Christians should have liberty too; especially liberty to reject civil unions and gay marriage even if the state itself prohibits it. Why? Because Christians have beliefs and values just like Muslims, Jews, Hindus and Sikhs and just because they are often from this country or "white" does not make it any less of a religion than to face persecution by the state itself.

The two lads setting up this petition are both from a Christian and our church and our beliefs are no business of the state whatsoever, the governments ideas are infringing upon our individual rights and millions of other devout Christians in the United Kingdom. They wouldn't force Muslims or Jews to accept civil unions now would they?

Our Church does not accept civil unions or gay marriage and won't if the state tries to force it upon them. If homosexuals have a problem with our beliefs in this modern society, then they have the liberty not to be involved with us or worship with us, but likewise we also should have the respective liberty to disagree with today's modern obsession with homosexuality.

Please sign this petition and stop this government trying to crush and trample on Christianity

Thank You!

If we review Housing Occupancies we maybe able to help lessen the already High Housing Crisis and those who are living in extra rooms can be placed into a more suitable dwelling.

28. They broke it. Make them pay to fix it!

They broke it. . . . Make them pay to fix it!

There is a crisis . . . but it is NOT a deficit or debt crisis.
  • There is an employment crisis because of a lack of decent stable jobs.

  • There is a moral crisis because the rich and well connected want the rest of us to pay for their irresponsible speculation, fraud and greed.

  • There is a crisis of democracybecause our political system is dominated by people with money rather than people with good ideas.
WORKING PEOPLE & THE POOR DIDN'T CAUSE THE CRISIS!

The government refuses to recognize the 37 % gap between Quebec residents’ remuneration and that of their colleagues in the rest of Canada.

The government refuses to compensate medical residents financially for the teaching activities they supervise, as it is the case for other health professionals.
