1. Safe Railway Crossings in Southwest Middlesex, ON

John Jobson was hit and died from his injuries by a highspeed Via Rail train at the Pratt Siding Rd. crossing in the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex. This is the 2nd fatality at this crossing where there are 2 tracks and 2 trains passing each other.

This line is owned by CN. Another track owned by CP just a few km north on the same road has no signs and high speed freight trains blow throught this track daily. We need safer railway crossings in Rural Ontario. CN and CP railway companies, Transport Canada and the Municipalities need to but Automatic Warning Devices (AWD) such as Flashing lights, Bells and Control Gates at all crossings especially in Rural Ontario. Share this link and pass this on to your friends and family as we don't know who will be the next fatality. When we know better, we do better!

Automatic Warning Devices AWD such as flashing lights, control gates and bells are needed at the Pratt Siding Road and Old Airport Road Crossing because they have 2 tracks where trains pass one another.

In Transport Canada's draft of Technical Standards and Inspection, Testing and Maintenance Requirements they recommend under section 12 GATES c) that Where Grade crossing warning systems are installed, they shall include gates if there are two or more tracks where trains may be passing one another.

3. Gate Maintenance a Must in Stetson Hills

The Stetson Hills CC&R's were written towards the aim of protecting our largest investment -- our homes. The Stetson Hills board of directors does not recognize that allowing unfinished wood on the private access gates of the homes in our community to become blackened over time is a detracting element which is negatively impacting our homes' values. Furthermore, the board does not acknowledge nor recognize that this is in violation of the CC&R's, which is the governing document of our association.

Specifically, the CC&R's brought to bear read as follows:

1.27 "Improvement" means: (a) any Residential Unit, building, fence or wall; (b) any swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, road, driveway, parking area or satellite dish; (c) any trees, plants, shrubs, grass, granite or other landscaping improvements of every type and kind; (d) any statuary, fountain, artistic work, craft work, figurine, ornamentation or embellishment of any type or kind (whether or not affixed to a structure or permanently attached to a Lot or Parcel); and (e) any other structure of any kind or nature.

3.8 Repair of Buildings. No Residential Unit, building, structure or other Improvement on any Lot, Parcel or other property shall be permitted to fall into disrepair and each such Residential Unit, building, structure and other Improvement shall at all times be kept in good condition and repair and adequately painted or otherwise finished.

4. Stone Walls For The Goths!

For years on the Age of Empires II: Age of Kings / The Conquerors forums, I have seen many threads with people telling about how much they love the Goth's civilization, and that they are thinking of making them their civilization of choice.

Then they all find out one thing that is a small problem to some, yet devastating to many. The Goths have no access to Stone Walls or Gates! This is the main reason why the Goths have been written off as one of the worst civilizations in the game.

I understand that there are many players abroad who wish that there was different technologies available for their favorite civilization, but issues as such would be a break in game balance. I can understand the Goths not having Plate Mail Armor, or Siege Rams / Onagers, but no stone walls? That is just unacceptable. Every civilization in the game should have basic access to stone walls and gates, and the Goths are the only ones to lack this technology.

Possibly if they were granted the ability to build stone walls, they could subtract something like their +10 population ability in the Imperial Age, yet this is just a suggestion.

5. Whangarei Town Basin Children's Park

While supervising my two year old son, my four year old son went missing at the Whangarei Town Basin Children's Park.

I eventually found him playing with another child over the edge of the board walk playing amongst the rocks and mangroves of the Whangarei Harbor.

This could have easily ended tragically!

To prevent this from ever happening I would like the Whangarei District council to fully ring fence the park with childproof Safety fencing and gates.

6. Fair health care premiums

In 2007 a law firm decided to merge with a larger law firm. In retrospect of this, the combined firm slowly decided on common practices, i.e. pay, vacation, benefits and the like. The larger of the two firms took "control." the smaller firm was to adhere to most of the larger firms amenities and practices.

We were re-hired to the larger firm on the date of the merge (January 1, 2007). We were informed that many changes would occur and affect ALL offices around. the larger firm in Pittsburgh became the global network for the rest of the firms. Slowly changes have been made, mainly indecisive and impractical changes. Healthcare is a major benefit our firm serves; it's highly competitive, extrememly flexible and comes in low costs.

Currently (and as legacy employees) the majority of us were paying between $15-30 monthly and taken directly out of our paycheck. This is based on what coverage you had, dependents, etc. As of last week, we were informed that an increase would take place at the beginning of 2008.

We have been duly informed the conditions recently, giving us a two month notice. As of 2008, we now will be paying anywhere from $33 - 55 BI-monthly. That is now per paycheck, not per month. In essence, our premium is going up __%. for single people, it can be seen that we are going to be paying ut over months rent in a yr. Our annual salary increases (raises) usually come into effect on the beginning of each yr. that also has changed to March of 2008. So for two months, we will not see a raise in our salaries.

In essence, no "actual" raise will take place. We figure that IF we receive an $1100 raise, we can break even and it will NOT harm us financially. BUT inflation is also a factor.... there seems to be NO reward for the success we have helped the firm endure

11. Fence and Gate Repairs Needed at Waterford Middle School

We have concern about the fences, and gates in need of repairs at Waterford Middle School, particularly in the 5th and 6th grade classroom area. We are requesting the Waterford Unified School District, and or the City of Waterford to make the necessary repairs as soon as possible, to ensure the safety of our children.
Children are fighting, being pushed, climbing fences, and squeezing thru the fence.Teachers whom are opening the fences are trying to open the gate, but having difficulties passing thru all the children. Sometimes up 5-10 minutes after the bell has rung.
