FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women. It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women.

An estimated 100 to 140 million girls and women in the world today have undergone some form of female genital mutilation, and 2 million girls are at risk from the practice each year. The great majority of affected women live in sub-Saharan Africa. It is nearly always carried out on minors and is a violation of the rights of children. The practice also violates a person's rights to health, security and physical integrity, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the right to life when the procedure results in death.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.

The practice is mostly carried out by traditional circumcisers, who often play other central roles in communities, such as attending childbirths. However, more than 18% of all FGM is performed by health care providers, and this trend is increasing.

Background of FGM in East Africa
In Kenya, evidence from the Kenya Demographic and Health Surveys (KDHS) shows that, in 2008/9, 27% of women had undergone FGM. The practice has remained highest among the Somali (97%), Kisii (96%), Kuria (96%) and the Maasai (93
In Uganda, the Sabiny, Pokot and Tepeth communities continue to practice FGM which is deeply rooted in tradition.

In Tanzania Female Genital Mutilation is traditionally performed on women. The most affected areas include Arusha, Kilimamnjaro, Dodoma, Singida, Mara and Morogoro regions,other regions include Iringa, Mbeya, and Zanzibar. According to Tanzania health statistics, FGM affects 18 percent of the female population in Tanzania.

No health benefits, only harm

FGM has no health benefits, and it harms girls and women in many ways. It involves removing and damaging healthy and normal female genital tissue, and interferes with the natural functions of girls' and women's bodies.

Immediate complications can include severe pain, shock, hemorrhage (bleeding), tetanus or sepsis (bacterial infection), urine retention, open sores in the genital region and injury to nearby genital tissue.

Long-term consequences can include:
- Recurrent bladder and urinary tract infections;
- Cysts;
- Infertility;
- An increased risk of childbirth complications and newborn deaths;
- The need for later surgeries.

For example, the FGM procedure that seals or narrows a vaginal opening (type 3 above) needs to be cut open later to allow for sexual intercourse and childbirth. Sometimes it is stitched again several times, including after childbirth, hence the woman goes through repeated opening and closing procedures, further increasing and repeated both immediate and long-term risks.

The anticipation and reality of transition into teenage years is challenging for girls. Research cites menstruation and its associated symptoms as the principal disadvantage of being a teenage girl.

Without proper sanitary products and care, the challenge is more prevalent and affects schooling and participation in sporting activities. Girls from less fortunate families are at risk of withdrawal and even could face infections.

The theft of dogs is happening more and more. Many are stolen to then be sold on to be used as breeding machines. I run a small dog rescue and if I do not know the history of the dog, the vet will still charge the same to open a bitch up only to find it is already spayed. Very often there is no visible scarring once it has healed so very difficult to detect.

If all vets were forced to tattoo each bitch while they are spaying them (it just has to be a small symbol in the groin) this will help rescues knowing they are already spayed, but more importantly stop any thieves stealing these poor dogs for breeding. Once they have a tattoo they will be of no use to breeders.

We need to make the government more aware of animal welfare.

Female Feticide is the act of killing a female fetus. A fetus is an unborn child within a womb of a mother. This is also called "child destruction".

Female Feticide is done because the parents do not want a duaghter. A daughter is considered worthless, useless, and very costly.

Sex-selective abortions were rare before the late 20th century, becasue of the diffuculty of determining the sex of the fetus before birth, but ultra sound has made such selection easier.

It is estimated that a killing of a female fetus occurs every 93 mins.

In Punjab, India about 130 aborted fuetuses are discovered every month. They are usually discovered in jars, hidden amongest the trees or bushes.

During a Miss India contest in 2008, one of the contestants was asked her opinon on female feticide, she responded by saying "I think it is the fastest method of reducing the indian population. I think that female feticide will bring goodness to India to reduce dust, pollution, and corruption in the future".

In the Guru Granthe Shiab (the Sikh Holy book) it is written "We are born of women. We are conceived in the womb of women. We are engaged and married to women. We make friendship with women and the lineage contined because of women. When one women dies, we take another one. We are bound the world through women. Why should we talk ill of her, who gives birth to kings? The man is born from women: there is none without her."

Gender is not just male and female. There are transgenders, males, females, no gender, the list could go on and on.

Two proposals have been forwarded to our local Brandon Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) to request the formation of a stand alone AA Female Midget hockey team for the upcoming 2007 - 2008 season.

Both proposals have been declined as an earlier survey of midget aged potential families suggested that there was not enough support to warrant a team. At the time of the survey very little information was known about what a stand alone team may look like and what type of schedule and costs would be involved.

A group of individuals with girls involved in Midget hockey would like the opportunity to hold tryouts for a stand alone team and offer detailed information as to what a stand alone AA team scheudle and costs would look like to those interested in playing at this level.

Tryouts would be held at the earliest possible time in September. Potentially the week players return to school.

We the CMS employees, request to get access back into 3 Wall or be escorted to enter or exit the MTC main building for the following reasons:

While we understand your decision, we feel that the safety of ALL Correctional Medical Services Female Employees are at high risk. Females walking the yard unescorted with inmates only a few feet away is very unnerving and frightening.

There is a large number of gang activity and stabbings in the yard, and God forbid; if there was an outbreak between the gangs and a female empoyee is walking through the yard innocently, she could get hurt.

Another reason for our request is that keep in mind ALL CMS employees work around the inmates in the hospital on a daily bases and for example, an inmate may not like that employee because they may had a run in with each other on a particular day or year, and that inmate now would have the opportunity of setting them up by another inmate when they walk across the yard.

Congratulations to Shayne for having the highest new chart entry for Stand by Me… at No. 14.

We know that is an achievement, but we also know that Shayne will be disappointed, and so are we. He is an absolutely amazing singer but the songs do not get enough people excited enough to go out and buy the singles. It also means, disappointingly, that the millions of people who voted for him on X Factor are deserting him. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?

On the X Factor, his best performance, (except for If You Not the One, which we all agree was amazing) were all up-tempo: Cry me a River, Take your Mama, the Darkness.

We remember him preparing for Cry me a River on Xtra Factor …and Ben on camera saying, "did anyone know that Shayne had those moves?" Everyone was excited by it…he could sing…he could dance.. He looked amazing…so WHAT HAS HAPPENED?

On the X Factor tour he wowed us with his performances, especially of Take Your Mama. He was the Shayne we had come to know and love from the X Factor: dynamic, sexy, hugely charismatic. But this isn't getting across now, WHY NOT?

Then No Promises got to No. 2, most likely on the back of his X Factor success and X Factor tour performance. Three months later, SBM, is released and virtually receives no airplay. The fact that it reached No. 14 with no airplay is absolutely amazing… evidence of Shayne's loyal fanbase.

The problem is not with Shayne- he's singing is awesome, but as Simon once said, you are filling a Ferrari with diesel! The songs have to be simply outstanding to expose him to a wider non X Factor audience, a fact that you have seemed to miss entirely.

You seem to think that Shayne's audience is only interested in ballads. Do you know who Shayne's audience is? Because we are not all adolescents, or female.

Look at the other music threads on this forum. Has anyone at Sony done that, to see what appeals to Shayne fans? Although Shayne's young fans are very important and have an important part to play in his success, his fanbase is much broader than that..and yet we all want something different!

As major InMe fans of both the music and the band themselves, it has come to our attention that InMe NEVER take any garment of clothing off in live shows, no matter how sweaty they get. The only time any of the three have taken anything off was when Joe Morgan posed topless in a gay magazine, oh great, so GAY MEN get the pleasure of joe's half-nakedness but the loyal inme fans, female, gay, and bi alike get nothing... unless of course we bought the magazine... which is easier for the gay and bi boys!

Of course we have other, selfless reasons for wanting to get inme topless/completely naked, following the interests of the band and NOT us at all:

-Health and Safety Reasons; What if their clothing were to cet caught and a fire broke out and they got trapped on stage, bound by their clothing, burning alive while everyone runs to escape their doom? what if they get a wedgie? my god they hurt. Imagine the embarassment of having to pull your underwear out of your crack in front of a hunfdred of your fans. They may also overheat in those clothes, and what if they got thrown out for some inexplicable reason? and they were all sweaty and it was cold? they would catch nemonia... and er.... the wet shirt would make it worse o_O

-It would be good for promotion; Some people only like inme for their looks, and hate the music, but I'm sure if they were to get rid of that clothing alot more fans would come, and it woulkd be in many magazines, winning inme some more fans.

-There are rumours of Dave being big-headed; Sharing would prove that he isn't. So share your body with us Dave! (c'mon greg does it)

There are many more reasons, but these, we feel are the most important, due to the lack of nakedness in the past, we would appreciate 1 naked tour, or 3 naked gigs as a minimum... London, Birmingham and Manchester. Or, if you insist, 3 tours of them topless, or a topless video, on an enhanced CD where we can watch it on our computers whenever we want.

Some people are taking this too seriously. Get a sense of humour please.

The wolf population in Norway is in a critical situation. This spring the government of Norway sanctioned a culling of wolves from only an estimated population of 25 wolves remaining in the country. During the hunt, an alpha female was killed "by accident" from one of the packs not to be targeted for the hunt - effectively dispersing the family. By the end of the hunt there were only 2 families left, and only one mating pair between the two.

The attitude of the government is biased by heavy lobbying of sheep farmers throughout the country who are trying to protect their free-range sheep. A quote from Afenposten tells all: "We want to keep Norway wolf-free. The wolf is vermin and should be taken out," said the leader of the Center Party program committee, Lars Peder Brekk."

Recently another wolf was found dead by unknown causes. This male wolf was a member of the family of wolves whose alfa female was wrongfully killed during the hunt. This death strikes a devastating blow to the wolf population. Now only one family survives in Norway.

The purpose of our petition is to show global support for the wolves and to demand the government of Norway change their policies and protect the wolves from extinction.

In many parts of the world, sex ratio is artificially skewed in favor of boy children. Recently, the number of males has increased and the number of females has decreased in China, India, Pakistan, and South Korea.

In many cases, girl children are so devalued that they are abandoned or killed at birth. Female, infanticide-the intentional killing of girl babies-has been widely documented in China and India, and is believed to be common in other Asian countries. Current technology allows women to know the gender of their fetuses before birth, and in many parts of the world, female fetuses are several times more likely to be aborted.

If they are allowed to live, girl children often receive little food and no health care or education-all of which are violations of girls' human rights. Because girls are less often educated than boys, two-thirds of the worlds illiterate adults are women. In many countries girls are more likely to become ill, but less likely to be taken to a doctor than their male counterparts. Discrimination against girl children manifests itself in a variety of more subtle ways as well. In some cultures, for example, although girl children may not be denied an education, they often receive less attention in school and are steered into stereotypical areas of study.

Discrimination against girl children is so deeply ingrained on an international level that it was nearly left out to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The convention was nearly opened for signature in 1990 containing only male pronouns: "she" and "her" had to be added at the last minute. Given this, it is perhaps not surprising that the convention often does not speak to the needs of girl children. For example, it does not address female genital mutilation, son preference, or early marriage-practices that impact girls more than boys.

Basically, Jazwares are a great company that make high quality Megaman figures, and also appear to take fan suggestions.

Unfortunately, while they want to produce these figures, both Jazwares and Capcom are not sure if they'll get enough sales of female action figures in the Megaman series -specifically figures of Roll Light.

Female action figures have never sold well before, which is an unforunate shame; I believe that with more strong female role models nowadays, and the popularity of the female characters in the Megaman series, they will sell well this time around, especially because the target audience for Megaman figures is more geared towards older fans of the series than just kids.

If you would like to see a Roll figure sometime in the near future, or Ciel, Marino, Leviathan, Tronne or any others, please sign :)

They have told me they need to produce a production run of 5,000 Roll Light figures; if we can even get 1/5th of that in signatures it would be a great achievement.

The world has always been sexist and has gotten a bit bitter, but not better enough! There are still alot of things that girls are not allowed to do because they are simply female. Just about anything a male can do there is nothing stopping a female from doing it better.

Sexism is there every day of every womans life and there is nothing to prevent it, even small things such as parents not letting daughters go out with friends or go camping with a small group of people when they let their sons do so at a much younger age. It should be stopped immediatly! Anything a boy can do a girl can do just as good.

Domestic Violence is taking the Freedom from Women, Children, Men, and Entire Families, Mother's, Father", Siblings etc.

I propose that we pass a Law instituting a Criminal Backround check on both the Male and the Female to find out if they have ever been convicted of a Domestic Violence or Child Molestation.

If either party has, they must tell the other before they get Married.

It is very costly to Rehabilitate a Family once the Violence is Reported to the Authorites.

The Couple to be Married would pay the cost.

Those Monies should and could help with Education, Job Training, the Deficit, and many other things needless to say it could be Saving Lives.

I am a Survivor, and if you have never ever been a Victim, never become one, and If you have ever had to struggle to be a Survior, help me to win this fight.

As part of a Women's Studies Class, I had to create a 'Liberating Action Project' - something pro-woman and liberating to educate the community. I chose to create a petition against Miller Brewing Company's "Catfight" commercial because I find it exploitative and degrading to women.

Miller Brewing Company has recently run a television commercial called, "Catfight" which features two, stereotypically beautiful women arguing the classic Miller Lite debate: "tastes great" vs. "less filling." In the commercial, the two women are arguing their sides and resultantly engage in a fight. The fight begins with one of the women throwing the other into a swimming pool where they rip each other's clothes off and wrestle around, and eventually ends up with the women in a trough of wet concrete. In some of the late night airings, one of the women actually ends the commercial by saying to the other, "Let's make out."

Commercials such as "Catfight" promote sexist thinking in our society. Those signing the petition disagree with the exploitation of female sexuality. Since it has been rumored that a similar series of commercials is planned, the names below are meant to urge Miller Brewing Company to rethink future advertisements such as "Catfight."
