1. Less Homework for School Children
Children across Australia, from as young as six years old are bringing home school work.
Some schools are giving students over two hours of homework each week night and more on weekends.
Children and youth are attending school for six hours a day. When you calculate their homework load on top of that they are working the equivalent of an average adult working day, somtimes more. This is stopping many of them from pursuing childhood activities like playing while it is still light outside, social activities, sports and participating in quality family time.
Then there is the addition of performance anxiety when doing assessment and assignment tasks and exam stress throughout high school.
The unrealistic workload for children and high expectations to perform academically for youth is having an emotional and psychologic effect on them and their families.
2. Stop Standard Based Grading
Standard Based Grading in High schools would lower every student's opportunity of having a good future.
Standard Based Grading is on a scale of 1-4 with 4 being the best, and 1 meaning you fail. There will no longer be homework or extra credit work to help students raise their grades.
Your final grades would be based off of your test scores only!
3. Stop Georgia High School Graduation Exams
If you graduated in 2000 or 2001 you were forced to take an exam to receive a High School diploma or Certificate Of Attendence that credit you for completing 12 years of school but would prevent you from going to college.I was a victim of this and I will not sit by and let this destroy the next generation to come.
Help assist me in this petition to stop all Graduation exams here in the state of Georgia.
4. Lobby Against 3rd Year Exam
As you may know, the Faculty of Medicine is currently planning to introduce a major exam into 3rd year medical school, in addition to the other exams we write in our 2nd and 4th years.
This is disadvantageous for the following reasons:
1. 3rd year is already EXTREMELY busy, and there is not adequate time for another exam.
2. The focus of clerkship should be on rotations and electives.
3. Many students are away on electives at different points of their 3rd year.
4. U of A students preform very well on the final exams in 4th year.
This petition will be passed to all four medical classes as it is important that we all support each other in maintaining a strong medical school.
Please note that there is an "Anonymous" option should you choose.
It's not fair. We had to do them when we were in Year 9, and they get to start their GCSEs early. We were put through so much pain to do them, and they should be as well.
6. Continuation of Availability for Microsoft Certification at Pearson Vue Testing Centers
On July 3, 2007, Microsoft Corporation announced an exclusive partnership with Thompson-Prometric to deliver Microsoft certification exams exclusively at Prometric testing centers world-wide.
7. Pivot Point International to go over exams given with students
Pivot Point Internationals Instructors, are not reviewing exams given to students. It is a proven fact that reviewing an exam will help students learn what they have answered incorrectly and learn the correct answer.
Students who do not review their exams are much less likely to realize their errors and may continue in the belief that their knowledge in the given subject is correct.
8. Stop the building work at TRC disrupting exams
My performance has been adversely affected due building work noise whilst sitting external examination in May/June 2001 inside the sports hall. I wish the Principal to write to all exam boards concerned highlighting the building work as a possible contributory factor to reduced performance. I also insist all building work be suspended while exams are in progress in the Sports Hall.
