2. Rights for Everyone's Safety on the TTC

I was using the TTC on Sunday December 13th to get home. In the evenings (especially when it is this late, when I have bags to carry from work and when roads are slippery), I like to request the bus to pull into a quick stop between bus stops. Not only do I feel safer with my home in sight; I have shaved several minutes of walking. Usually, bus drivers are more than happy to do this, especially during the winter evenings regardless of my gender.

This time, I was abruptly reminded that this request stop was for "women only" and then the bus carried on driving (without stopping and only having one other passenger).

This is only the third time this has happened (the the driver rejected my request); however, I feel that incident should never have happened at all. I am writing to suggest that the "evening stop request" be made availble to all men, women and children travelling in the evening times and that every passenger's safety (especially in the winter time) be considered. The Toronto Transit Corporation has to believe that passengers will not abuse this opportunity; at the same time, should also believe that their employees can us their descretion whether to allow the stop or not (NOT based on gender). Being that Toronto has taken huge strides to become more inclusive and diverse in culture, ethnicity, abilities and sexuality/gender, this should be reflected in the transit system Toronto provides.

Not all women are more vulnerable to danger than men. Female riders do not pay extra fare to have their safety be protected (as people's safety should be protected for everyone). There are many individuals in Toronto who are transgendered as well. Being judged by the clothes we wear, the way we act and who we are should not be a factor in our safety when "Riding the Rocket".

With Toronto winning its bid for World Pride in 2014; I do not concede that we should take this matter lightly. For the days, weeks and months leading up to the event, Toronto will be home to many visitors from across the globe. The last thing I believe should ever happen would be for a man to be in a dire situation that could have been avoided by the opportunity to "request an evening stop".

3. Public Transit for College & University students in Orillia, Ontario

The City of Orillia has recently made significant improvements to its public transit system, yet its hours of operation - with no evening service - continue to be a great problem for Orillia's growing population of college and university students.

Transit currently finishes at 6:45 p.m., leaving students who have evening classes (usually finishing at 10:00p.m.) stranded at school, and unable to use transit to get home.

Orillia has two institutions of higher learning, and yet does not provide the type of transit service that college and university students require - restricting which classes they choose to take, where they live, and what part time jobs and volunteer opportunities they are able to take.

4. City of Ashland Ky. to consider expanding their public transportation hours into the evening

Those of us who depend upon the bus system for transportation would like to see expanded hours especially during special events such as Summer Motion. This would help with grocery shopping, attending events, taking evening classes at ACC and attending special events in the park.

5. Stop the Media promoting Eating Disorders

518 HAMILTON AVE
LUMBERTON, NJ 08048
January 11, 2007
CBS Evening News
524 West 57th St.
New York, NY 10019

Dear Sir or Madam:

SUBJECT: EATING DISORDERS IN THE MEDIA

My name is Katie Morton and I am writing because I would like to see a part of one of the CBS Evening News shows to be about eating disorders in the media. As a teenage girl I am deeply disturbed by the growing number of people that are affected by eating disorders on a daily basis. Due to the media many girls result to not eating or eating very little in order to look like the stars they see on television.

Many girls in today’s society look at the skinny, beautiful models and actresses as role models. It appears that these women have everything, money, fame, and good looks. They think that these women are in control but what most girls do not realize is that these women are really spinning out of control because many of them have an eating disorder. “In America young girls have been so obsessed with dieting that they will take extreme measures by the time they are ten years old” (Erlanger).
Almost every girl at some point in her life has looked in the mirror and thought that all they saw was fat. By being skinny it shows that you have control over your life. Even I have been one of those girls who look at themselves in the mirror and think they are fat.

Unlike many girls I have never taken drastic measures to change the way I look. All I have done is exercised significantly and eaten healthy foods. Like every girl in America I wanted to be like the women that I see on television.

“Five to ten million people have eating disorders nation wide; that includes eleven percent of high school students and up to nineteen percent of college students. Eighteen to twenty percent of people with anorexia will die within twenty years of diagnosis” (Lauren Gold). This is a statistic that must be changed for the benefit of today’s youth. Television is the way most individuals get information in the United States; therefore it is the media’s responsibility to portray a more realistic image for young girls.

I believe that it would be a great idea for CBS to run a show on this growing epidemic in America. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Katharine Morton

6. Bibb County School System - Reroute our childrens pick up and drop off stops

Concerned parents would like to extend the dropoff point for a number of reasons.

During the morning hours they have to be at the stops so early that you don't feel it safe for your children to be at the stop alone. They also drop off so late in the evening after school has been let out.

7. Sunday Ferry to Stornoway for the HebCeltFest

March 06, 2006

The Hebridean Celtic Festival in Stornoway is now in it's 11th year.

For the past 10 years more and more people have come to the Isle of Lewis to enjoy one of the most intense music festivals in an amazing setting. One (if not the only) drawback is the part of getting there and back. The main way of transport to the island for most festival visitors is the Calmac Ferry.

Unfortunatly there is no ferry running on Sundays, and with many people having to work on Monday again, people tend to leave with the last ferry on Saturday. This also being the last day of the festival, means the gigs on saturday evening are not as well booked as they should be!

In order to enable more people to enjoy the fantastic shows on Saturday evening, we are hoping to get Calmac to organise at least one run of their ferry to Ullapool for Sunday.

8. Holy Bible in every American school

1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.
1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
1:7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:
and it was so.
1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself,
upon the earth: and it was so.
1:12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind:
and God saw that it was good.
1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for
seasons, and for days, and years:
1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open
firmament of heaven.
1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every
winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and
it was so.
1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:
and God saw that it was good.
1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of
the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the
fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have
given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

9. More busses in the evening in Hasselt

For a few years the busses have been free in Hasselt and its suburbs. The free busses are every day. The last bus drives between 7 o'clock and half past 7. That is too early that they stop with driving. Many people want busses in the evening eg. going to theatre, art lessons, etc...
