Pune is the most dangerously polluted city as per findings of a study by TERI considering its Air Quality Index.

The politicians of Pune are asking for a new road that is not part of the Development Plan of the city that will cut across virgin, silent green zone behind the Law College; cutting THOUSANDS of trees of a planted forest, nurtured by citizens and the ILS Law College over many years.

Road widening of the existing road using Law College's property will solve the problem of congestion to a considerable extent upto Prabhat Road. From Prabhat Road to Athavale Chowk there is a parallel road over an erstwhile canal that will take care of the rest of the way.

The congestion on Law College road is as much as on all major roads in the city. It has been compounded by permissions to commercial establishments and coffee shops that increase parking of vehicles with reduction in the carriage width of the road.

The proposed bypass will bring automobile pollution, noise and congestion into the heart of a green area at the foot and lower ridge of the Vetal hill. This is a catastrophic proposal and will destroy one of the last virgin green areas left in Pune.(see www.rescuepune.blogspot.com and also see http://www.gopetition.com/online/8517.html).

We seek the support of all well wishers of Pune and Pune's residents to stop this project and ask the Municipal Corporation to take the option of road widening or making the street a one way road.

Unless the city's population increase due to migrations is controlled and unless an effective mass transport bus system using dedicated lanes is developed, no new roads will ever be able to solve Pune's problems. This proposed road will however forever damage Pune's already deranged eco-system and disturb the flora and fauna inhabiting this area.

PETITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE DORVAL GOLF COURSE.

The purpose of this petition is to try to conserve a beautiful ecosystem that has developed over a 25 year period on the property known as "Golf Dorval".

Located in Quebec, Canada, on the Island of Montreal in the city of Dorval, this property provides natural green space which promotes health and fitness for the residents of Montreal. Over the years, this property has developed and grown into one of the finest public golf facilities in Quebec. This 36 hole golf course has provided a natural habitat for birds, particularly the Canada Geese, blue herons, owls and ducks as well as a few families of foxes and other animals. It has a renowned Future Links program that has developed into the largest program of its kind in Canada.

The Airport of Montreal (ADM) wants to destroy this property and convert it into a commercial real estate development for the sole purpose of making money. This is pure misuse of the purpose for which it was given the land. The property will not be used to expand the airport nor will it ever be once it is built upon. The ADM is prepared to kill the ecosystem, sacrifice green spaces and eliminate the health and fitness benefits of the property solely for the purpose of commercial gain.

Protect Dorval

We, the residents of Dorval, Montréal and surrounding areas, need to express our strong opposition to ADM's decision to destroy the property known as "Golf Dorval" and to convert it into rental property for the purpose of generating rental income.

We object to the fact that an ecosystem developed over a 25 year period needs to be destroyed for the purpose of making money. The health and welfare and requests of the people in the community are being ignored for commercial gain.

The Pentagon has been using radiooactive weapons for at least a decade and a half with full complicity of at least three White House administrations and Republican and Democratic congressional legislators.

Conservatively, at least 300 tons and 1,700 tons of depleted uranium were used in the Gulf War and the current Iraq War, resectively.

Depleted uranium is really a misnomer, because the potentially harmful effects are by no means depleted. Research reports have found that when depleted uranium is ingested or inhaled, it can cause cancers and birth defects.

Iraqi and visiting doctors, and a number of news reports, have reported that birth defects and cancers in Iraqi children have increased five- to 10-fold since the 1991 Gulf War and continue to increase sharply, to over 30-fold in some areas in southern Iraq.

Currently, more than 50 percent of Iraqi cancer patients are children under the age of 5, up from 13 percent.

In march 2005 I rented a home from Dayne Davis Realitor unaware of the serious consequences that would fall upon my one yr old son.

From the fist day we moved in my baby seemed to have changed mentally the things he once did like walking and talking all came to a stop and little by little he seem to get sicker often with high fevers of 106 to viral infections and having to go to the doctor at leat twice a month.

So they decided to give him a lead test and it was my worst fear his levels was at 10. I was contacted by the health dept (Kimberly Noble) to have the home cleaned of lead and was told to contact the landlord. I did and to my despise he gave me a seven day notice and he just recieved my rent money two days prior.

I had just moved in i got the results in June and was informed by the doctor and health dept it was a matter he has to clean. (He refused.) So i got a lawyer (Brian Smith) which informed me of my rights and told me he just can't throw me out because my baby was sick. Mr. Smith also informed my landlord Dayne Davis whom agreed to clean the house if i would not sue him for medical and emotional expenses especially since i was Eight months pregnant at the time. So he had me to leave my home for seven days assuring me the home would be cleaned up and so i did. When i returned home and after the court proceding was stopped i realized that the inside of the home wasent done only the front porch.

I called Dayne Davis and informed him of the situation because paint chips was still in the home he told me they hepa vac the home and it was safe that all i would need to do is bleach the windows and everything would be fine. so i did. The paint started to chip again and i notice my baby was getting sicker, around this time he took me to court to file for eviction two months later in Sept becuase of the funds i wouldnt give him until the home was cleaned which was just for june 2005 after he agreed with my lawyer not to take legal action especially since he wouldnt take my funds anyways.So i payed him and to my surprise my son is getting more violent, angry and now he cant talk anymore, hes also throws horrible temper tantrums and he cant even focus. So i was advised by his family doctor Dr. Saeed that his levels had increased to 15 and to send him to an A.D.H.A specialist Dr. Chheda, whom diagnosed my son with A.D.H.A Behavior conduct disorder, and refers him to a speech, and behavior therapist as well as phychrioist. Hes now deemed mentally retarded and the cause was Lead Poising now he is prescribed medicine to help him focus and calm down. I informed Dayne Davis that i was notified by the health dept for the second time and salem houseing comission(which cleans lead in homes) and they agreed to clean the home with his signature. He refused and torn up my paper then threated me by calling the police all over him signing the paper so i can have a healthY safe living environment.Dayne Davis even went so far to tell me "I DISLIKE YOU PEOPLE" you people he has some neverve, my son could have died over his lack of sincerity and unsafe house. That he was aware unsafe, he lied just to recieve my funds and now my sons life is worth nothing, and i need help.

He also told me " I WANT YOU TO MOVE YOU CANT PROVE THERE IS LEAD IN THE HOUSE IF I EVICT YOU ITS YOUR WORD AGAINST MINE AND I CAN MOVE ANYOTHER FAMILY IN". Please someone whoever has a ear let him hear and whoever has a heart let it speak the truth and help me for my sons sake. My son is too young to understand why hes sick and why he dosent deserve to live in a safe environment.

We have a voice and needs it to be heard, please stop him Dayne Davis before he rents a home to another child this time the child might not be as lucky as mine he/she might not make it. My newborn is only 4 mos and has already been sick often but shes too young to be tested, will someone please help me.

The wolf population in Norway is in a critical situation. This spring the government of Norway sanctioned a culling of wolves from only an estimated population of 25 wolves remaining in the country. During the hunt, an alpha female was killed "by accident" from one of the packs not to be targeted for the hunt - effectively dispersing the family. By the end of the hunt there were only 2 families left, and only one mating pair between the two.

The attitude of the government is biased by heavy lobbying of sheep farmers throughout the country who are trying to protect their free-range sheep. A quote from Afenposten tells all: "We want to keep Norway wolf-free. The wolf is vermin and should be taken out," said the leader of the Center Party program committee, Lars Peder Brekk."

Recently another wolf was found dead by unknown causes. This male wolf was a member of the family of wolves whose alfa female was wrongfully killed during the hunt. This death strikes a devastating blow to the wolf population. Now only one family survives in Norway.

The purpose of our petition is to show global support for the wolves and to demand the government of Norway change their policies and protect the wolves from extinction.

This petition is created upon request by tenants residing at Willowick Gardens. This petition is also to be used as formal notification by tenants for the sole purpose and intent of informing said Organization of usafe and unsatisfactory living conditions.

Due to uncontrollable weather conditions, our Apartment Complex has been left in a state of needed repair. Below is a list of said repairs that must be addressed immediately.

1.) Parking lot on East side of complex is damaged beyond repair and temporarily closed to traffic until further notice.

2.) Drainage system does not work well enough to prevent damages from small amounts of rain. We have had several displaced tenants due to flood and water damage.

3.) Apartments that have flooded and been vacated are left open and unattended, allowing children access to unsafe materials and properties.

4.) Maintanence work orders are going unfilled due to lack of hired help.

5.) The childrens play area, recently removed due to severe injury, is no longer available for children of tenants to play on.

6.) As promised by Online website located at:http://www.apartments.com, the fitness rooms are in need of repair and contain only one working device in each room.

7.) As promised by website, Saunas are available, however have not been repaired and are unusable by tenants.

The seas around the UK's coasts are increasingly overfished, over-trafficked and over-developed - but crucially under-protected - our precious seas are dying from neglect. Your support today will help safeguard our sea life.

More than half of the UK's wildlife depends on the health of the seas around our coasts. However, the UK's seas, feeding grounds to some of our most spectacular seabirds such as gannets, shearwaters and puffins, have very little protection under UK law.

Unlike on land, there are very few protected areas in the marine environment. This means that some of our most precious wildlife, including dolphins, corals and seahorses, is at risk from over-exploitation and the damaging effects of development.

It's unthinkable that all this beauty, and all these natural resources should be squandered through lack of adequate protection.

More than half of all the wildlife in the UK lives in - or depends upon - the seas. Under domestic legislation, there are only three tiny marine nature reserves around our coast, compared with thousands of Sites of Special Scientific Interest on land. Up to half the fish caught by fishing vessels are routinely thrown back dead.

Better protection for wildlife at sea. The RSPB is campaigning alongside other wildlife organisations for comprehensive marine legislation to protect the marine environment.

I recently visited the Emperor Valley Zoo and it was more like the Valley of Death than an actual zoo. I was saddened by this situation and ever since I have been trying to see what can be done.

Emperor Valley Zoo - Zoo or Animal Graveyard? I have not been to the zoo for years and was expecting to see huge roaring lions, playful monkeys, dears and all the other unusual animals. As I wondered around the zoo, I got more than what I expected, the adrenalin rushed to my head my heart started pounding and my body became frigid with shock, not did I only get to meet the animals but their valley of death. These animals are not only kept there for the viewing pleasure of the public, but also to be tortured, mistreated, harmed, abused and neglected! My eyes were suddenly filled with tears, trying to picture myself in these poor animals places, and it hurts, just thinking about it. The animals just like every other human being has feelings too. It makes you question, why have a zoo, why have zookeepers, why display pain to the public and most important of all why have a Minister of Environmental issues. Does any of this make sense? Does our country only consist of people? All those that are part of the Zoological Society of Trinidad and Tobago should walk with their heads down in shame, because they have to be mentally sick to have the heart to ill-treat animals. You would have to be a HATER!

I have visited several countries and it's so nice to see how wholesome their environment is, almost makes you want to stay, and then I begin to think about driving through the streets of our islands as I am then escorted by stray dogs, dead dogs, vagrants and much more. Oh how proud I am of my country and my government. A government is put in place to take charge of the country and I do believe that it includes caring for all environmental matters and a lot of this begins at the zoo. The government thinks that they are making the every attempt to get rid of crime, but they themselves along with those that are involved with the environment department fail to realize that they are criminals too! They are individuals that do not see animal cruelty as a problem.

There should be animal cruelty laws, are there? If you look at the channel 39 on cable (Animal Planet), there is a program especially dedicated to deal with animal brutality, they literally arrest and press charges against people who can’t look out for animals. They take the animals away from them and carry them to an animal hospital, where they are treated with care and then carried away to homes where they can be loved.

Can you actually tell me you go to the zoo and enjoy looking at sick animals? I have seen with my own eyes animals that are meant to live an aquatic life, live without water and if there is water, it looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for months, since the moss seems to enjoy it more than the animals. It took me five minutes to find the dears, which were all cuddled up in a corner of their water-less den lying on the not so freshly cut grass looking as though they were on the verge of death. As for the three lions or maybe just two with one looking like a corpse, at least that is what it looked like, were trapped with an already eaten, but rottening bone. So very few lions we have, wonder if these strong, as they are known to be, creatures have the strength to even mate. Yes, it’s that bad, unbelievable but true. The visitors of the zoo on the other hand and the zookeepers I must add, had to enjoy a great deal of the foul smell, coming from the monkey’s cages. From what I gathered, this zoo will eventually be an “Animal’s Cemetery” Animals need to be nurtured, meaning to take care of, for those that don’t know. I just had to give the meaning of that word, because a lot of us really do not know.

This is not only a letter of complaint, but a plead to please fill these animal’s bowls with water, cut the grass, give them a need to run around in their dens, swim in their ponds, feed them, clean their homes, this has been their homes for quite some time, shower them love and attention, give them life and a chance to create a life. I would also like everyone to know that I am not stopping here; I am going to continue pleading until all this comes to a stop, by gathering those that are willing to help fight against this terrible situation, by addressing the Minister of Environment and others associated and I urge you to do your part to bring this to an end.

Logging the Congo rainforests will cut down more than just trees!

The rainforests of the Congo - which are the second largest on Earth after those of the Amazon - are imminently threatened. New laws being introduced under the guidance of the World Bank, as well as a 'zoning' of the country's forests, will potentially see an area the size of France handed out to logging companies.

35 million people (75% of Congo's national population) live in and around the forests, and depend on it for food, shelter, and natural medicines. The forests are also home to thousands of plant and animal species, including the lowland Gorilla, chimpanzees, forest elephants, and the rare okapi. So far, the rainforests have largely been spared widespread destruction.

However, the new laws, which are due to come into effect this year, will encourage a massive expansion of the timber industry, including a 60-fold increase in industrial logging.

This could be the start of the first major environmental and humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century.

The Rainforest Foundation, along with dozens of environmental and human rights groups from the Democratic Republic of Congo is calling on the World Bank to immediately halt plans for the expansion of industrial logging of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and to ensure that the rights of people living in the forest are respected.

How would you feel if I told you that Kraft Foods is capitalizing on making us sick and poisoning our environment? Kraft saves money by using genetically engineered ingredients and don't even warn us about them on the packaging! These genetically engineered ingredients result in side effects such as: allergies, antibiotic resistance, harm to beneficial insects like lady bugs, the creation of "super weeds" and the use of more pesticides.

All of this is true and we have to make our voices heard before this type of behavior among food companies spreads. Kraft's products such as Boca Burgers, Snackwell's crackers, Lunchables, Tombstone Pizza, Post Cereal and Stovetop Stuffing have all tested positive for genetically engineered ingredients and they are using us as and our environment to experiment with.

Hundreds of North Americans reported suffering from allergic reactions after eating Kraft and other products containing GE corn. However, Kraft continues to use genetically engineered ingredients in many of its products in North America.

Did you know that Kraft has pulled it's genetically engineered ingredients from products in Europe? Why you ask? Because of consumer pressure not to use GE ingredients! By removing these ingredients from Europe, Kraft proved that it can be done anywhere else in the world.

Let's send a message to Jim Pattison to not stock Kraft because we will not buy products containing GE ingredients. By doing so, we can ensure the protection of our health and conservation of Mother Nature.

There are currently no public skateparks in Gwinnett County that allow BMX bikes. With the growing rate of freestyle BMX in Gwinnett County, it would be safe to keep the participants off of the busy streets and into a healthy environment.

We are most concerned at the increase of puppies and dogs being sold throughout Petshops in New Zealand. The numbers are increasing dramatically and some Breeders in NZ appear to be breeding for the Pet Shop Market and puppies being sold for huge amounts of money.

Not enough information is being given out re the Breeds of dogs, the sizes they grow to, the care they need, a suitable environment or contact with people in the same Breeds.


Many of these dogs once grown are being dumped into Rescue organisations or left to wander the streets until impounded. There are many horror stories and we are becoming aware of more.

We are also concerned about health issues with the puppies, after hearing of many cases with puppies being sold with fatal viruses or congenital diseases, usually unbeknown to the purchaser.

A Pet shop is not a suitable environment to sell a puppy from. There is not enough people contact, no training can be given and one of our worst concerns is what happens to the puppies who are not sold after 3 months of age?

We feel there are enough unwanted puppies and dogs in New Zealand, without Pet Shops adding to the problem by encouraging backyard breeders and puppy farmers to mate their bitch with the dog down the road, to produce some puppies to sell to the local petshop. These puppies are then sold on with no background checks on the new owners, no property inspections and no investigation into the suitability of the new owner for the breed.

We find it hard to understand why any dog breeder would place their puppies into Petshops to onsell and the only reason has to be monetary....

MAF has guidelines on the Selling of Companion Animals but we are aware that these are not being adhered to in alot of cases and are very hard for MAF and the SPCA to police.

Geocaching is a worldwide sport involving the use of a GPS receiver to find a specific site. The location of the site may contain an actual hidden cache, a point of interest or unusual view, an event, or some other reason.

Most caches are located on city, county, state and federal public grounds. The property is not damaged and in most cases, trash and litter is removed by geocachers.

The Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation Department has banned the placing of geocaches in all City parks. One of the reasons is that it damages the environment. However, the Department allows horse and mountain bike traffic in the parks. What could be more damaging? The Department has also spent money for developing skateboard areas. Geocaching is of no expense to the City.

A proposed asphalt recycling plant may soon be located in Casitas Springs, CA, if it is not stopped.

This plant will result in pollution to the air as well as increased truck traffic. The average number of truck trips would be 106 per day, and the peak daily number could reach as high as 672.

Air quality will be impacted by the truck traffic as well as emissions from the actual operation, including hazardous particulate matter.

The surrounding area is known for its clean air and beautiful mountain surroundings.

Sources say the Navy decided to acknowledge the experiment, at least in part, because the sea lions were making so much noise in their pens at Bahrain harbor, home of the Navy's largest facility in the Persian Gulf.
Sea lions are not native to those waters and typically bark loudly when excited. There was no way their presence, officials decided, could be kept secret. No final decision has been made on whether the sea lions will stay.

The animals — along with dolphins and a beluga whale or two — are trained as part of the Navy's Marine Mammal Program in San Diego. They are trained to hunt for mines, to locate objects lost in deep water and to provide harbor security.

Intelligence officials have warned repeatedly about the threat of terrorists using divers to blow up ships. That's what both the sea lions and the dolphins are trained to deal with, among other things.

Working with human handlers, the sea lions are trained to locate unexpected swimming intruders, to snap a locking clamp on an arm or leg, then leave.

The clamp is connected to a rope and signal buoy that humans with guns would then reel up, presumably pulling up a human on the other end. In theory, the animals would not be hurt. Their contact with a potential terrorist — who would presumably be surprised — would last only an instant as they briefly made contact.

Sea Lions, Unlike Dolphins, Can Battle the Elements

Why sea lions?

During the Persian Gulf War and several times after, the Navy used specially trained dolphins to pull harbor guard duty. But their handlers discovered as the weather heated up and the water got warmer in the Gulf, the dolphins became sluggish and far less effective.

Officials say sea lions do not appear to be bothered as much by rising water temperature and they have one other advantage. Unlike a dolphin, a sea lion could continue chasing an enemy — if it came to that — onto dry land.

In Croft, there have been many plans to open it up and improve it but so far, all have been thwarted by people intent on keeping it what it is on the flimsy pretext of 'protecting the green belt'. The most recent plan is to re-open the station - a plan that would vastly improve the area. Why? Because they claim that it would involve building a car park to fit 5000 cars. How likely is it that any place that gets (at most) 350 cars a day would build a car park that would leave at least 4000 spaces empty every day? It is almost impossible! The objectors base their claim on environmental issues but I challenge that. If there was a station, there would be less cars on the road. Were there less cars, two things would happen; there would be less pollution and there would be less demand for new roads. By keeping the station shut these people are forcing more cars onto the roads. This means that new roads will have to be built as the existing ones cannot cope with the ammounts of traffic. Building new roads will take up even more green belt than the small space needed for a car park. The car park will not be an eyesore as it will surely be small - it cannot be any otherwise! Even if you do not care about a small village that you probably have not heard of, the environment affects everybody, and it is all of our duty to protect it in whatever way we can. The only way to stop the whole country from being covered in motorways and otherwise trashed is to open it up now - starting with the stations!

The Tablelands GeneEthics Network formed 18 months ago with the aim of freezing the growth of gene modified crops across the Atherton Tablelands region of North Queensland for a period of 5 years.

In this time a moratorium can allow for proper investigation of the affects of Gene Modified crops in relation to health, environment & industry.

A forum held in Atherton on the 26 March 2001 drew an audience of close to 500 residents to listen to speakers from the Organic farming association, Queensland DPI, Monsanto & Consumer food network.

A questionnaire on the night showed that 89% of attendees agreed to a 5 year moratorium on the Atherton Tablelands.

For those unfamiliar with the faith of Islam, one of the many traditions followed by believers of this faith is to grow the beard at fist length (from the chin), and to trim the hair around the upper lip and face. Several passages and sayings (Qu'rran, Hadith),
dictate this as divine law. Recently, a young man of Islamic faith reached the age at which it was deemed appropriate for him to carry out this expression faith. Knowing the school's policy of "no facial hair", he very considerately wrote a letter to several
members of the administration, asking for permission to grow his beard to fist length. He was turned down.

Some would argue that an Episcopalian school reserves the right to deny non-Christian forms of religious expression. However, ESD has chosen, of their own volition, to admit students of non-Christian faith to the school.

The following is a verbatim copy of the mission statement of the Episcopal School of Dallas, which appears on the first page of the 2000-01 edition of the ESD Student Handbook: "The Episcopal School of Dallas, a college preparatory school, is a spiritual community whose mission is to educate young people having A VARIETY OF BACKGROUNDS AND APTITUDES [my emphasis]. The school is a co-educational, faith-centered environment, with a strong academic and extra-curricular program that ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO DISCOVER THEIR FULL POTENTIAL SPIRITUALLY, INTELLECTUALLY, AND PHYSICALLY. [my emphasis]"

By printing the above text on the first page of the student handbook, ESD has professed to encourage students of different faiths to attend their school, and to strengthen their relationship with God. We see forms of religious expression around us every day at school.

To allow Christians and Jews to express their faith using the previously mentioned religious symbols, while restricting Muslims from growing a beard, ESD has restricted members of a particular faith the freedom to express themselves in ways similar to those
that their Jewish and Christian brothers and sisters do.

Furthermore, by publishing the aforementioned mission statement, while at the same time denying a student his own ways of "discover [himself]spiritually", The Episcopal School of Dallas has shown it's true diversity... or lack thereof. Please sign this
petition to support this Muslim student in his fight for religious expression in a "diverse" school.

Jet Skis are a blight to the environment. They cause excess pollution on waterways. They're incredibly noisy. You can hear them from miles away.

And they're incredibly dangerous - which is more of an reflection on jet ski owners. Ask any surfer. Ask any person who has been hit by a jet-ski.

Sorry for my prejudice, but most jet ski owners are completely oblivious of other water-craft/people in general. They have no respect for the environment.
