124. UN VOTING OVERSIGHT FOR 2004 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

The necessity and urgency of fair and accurate oversight of the 2004 US Presidential Elections is of paramount concern for hundreds of thousands of people who know for fact that their vote did not count. Whether it was by means of physically preventing voting at the polls, an intentional miscount of their vote, or purposeful deception that rendered their vote ineligible, a significant portion of the American population does not feel that the 2000 Presidential Election was executed with democracy and fairness in mind.

The American people have not been given any reason to believe that 2004 Presidential Election will be any different.

126. Support Wal-Mart Workers Ability to Organize Freely

We are calling upon CEO H. Lee Scott to stop the vicious anti-union campaign his company uses to stop employees from legally organizing to better their working conditions.

We, the undersigned, want Wal-Mart to abide by American principles of fair play and free elections and allow Wal-Mart employees to have a free, fair and uncoerced election, and for Wal-Mart to live up to its legal obligation to bargain a contract if the employees choose to have the Union represent them. We promote the following:

-A Code of Ethical Conduct for the conduct of any election

-Join with the Union in allowing Las Vegas's faith community to independently monitor compliance with this Code of Ethical Conduct by both the company and the Union. The Union has agreed.

-Open all meetings with employees to members of Las Vegas's faith community. The Union has agreed to open all of its meetings with employees.

-Renounce such inherently coercive tactics as closed-door, "captive audience" meetings, where employees only receive one-sided propaganda, and to set a higher standard for labor relations in retailing by holding a series of joint appearances with Union representatives to guarantee employees full information before they vote.

127. Reduction of age limits on standing for election

This petition is in support of reducing the current age limit on becoming an MP, councillor or other elected person in UK Government from 21 to 18. In this new century of equality it is common sense that if you can vote at 18 you should also be able to stand for election from the age of 18. Currently it is restricted to 21 or over. How are young people supposed to take an active interest in the running of government if they cannot participate in the workings of government?

Why does this affect you? - this affects everyone who is eligable to vote. Candidates can become your local MP or Councillor. What's to say that a 18 year old can't do a better job than someone who's over 21? Possibly even better!

Please sign this petition if you are in support of:
- democracy
- equal rights for adults over 18
- fairness in government
- modernising UK government

129. Presedential Election Discrimination Awareness

Election Day. For many people this was a chance to voice their opinion, be a part of their country, and decide the future of their country. But for many, election day was a day their voices were not heard, their opinions were not counted, their votes were thrown away. As most of you are aware, there were several thousand votes in dispute, many because people did not understand the voting card. Racial discrimination might be a factor, and also Jeb Bush, George W. Bush's brother, and governor of Florida, might also have had an impact of how the votes were counted. In any event, by signing this petition, you are stating that you are dissatisfied with the election turnout, and you beleive that George W. Bush is the illegitimate winner of the presedential election. Even if we cannot undo the damage already done to our country, we can let the government know how unhappy we are. By taking a more organized approach to this matter, they will listen far better than yelling and screaming with picket signs and strikes.
