1. Let the Doggies Run - MonRover Park, Monroe Ohio
With the demise of BMX racing at Monroe Crossings park, the fenced area that contained the track is available for use. The city has spent $12,500 for the fencing and is now removing the dirt hills to flatten the 2 acre space.
Several people, including Public Works, have approached us, a local non-profit animal welfare organization, to gauge interest in reusing this for a dog park, MonRover Park, & form a committee.
Some residents of the adjacent subdivision are currently using this fenced area as an unofficial off leash park for their pets. The nearest dog park is Wiggly Field, 12 miles south at VOA in West Chester.
Dog parks are a popular amenity that offer diversity, year round use, low maintenance, and attract profitable animal related events to the city. Portions can be leased to dog training clubs, host agility events & offer room to exercise working animals such as canine officers & therapy dogs.
The most expensive requirement for a dog park is the land & fence - the former BMX track offers both, along with a picnic table & fenced bleacher area. There is also a large paved parking lot, restroom/concession area & state of the art playground equipment & multi acre soccer fields. Basic items that are needed is additional fencing to separate small dogs from the large dogs, a double gated entry, signage, some bench’s & landscape items such as trees.
Funding would be attained via a combination of major sponsorship, corporate & private donations, fundraising & assorted grants. Just last year, Nutro Foods gave away $500,000 for the development of a dog park.
We have held our first committee meeting & have interest from the community.
2. MAXIMUM PENALTY FOR THE MAN WHO SHOT A DOG FOR TRESPASSING IN SALAMINA, GREECE
Το
Minister of Justice, Transparency and Human Rights, Mr. Kastanidis
Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr.Skandalidis
Subject: OPEN LETTER - PROTEST
Α few days ago a terrible case of animal abuse took place for once again in Greece...
Chrisanthos Spiliotopoulos is the name of the man that last Wednesday witnessed and reported a horrible crime of animal abuse. Passing by Peristeriou Avenue in Salamina, with his car, this man heard two gun shots, and the next thing he witnessed was a man shooting for the third time, a dog, to finish him off, while that dog was trembling and writhing, and crying and streaming from the pain the bullets had caused him.
The killer, who is Retired of the Hellenic Navy, was annoyed because the dog, epaniel in race, entered his garden through an opening in the fence! He did not hesitate for not even a minute and executed the poor dog with 3 bullets in front of the eyes of his young son ! Trying to give him the “good” example !
The abuser, who was arrested yesterday, today was presented to the Public Prosecutor so that the charges would be announced to him, but his trial was postponed because of the legals’ strike, for January 16, at 13:00
http://www.occupyforanimals.org/greece-salamina--a-man-shot-in-cold-blood-a-stray-for-trespassing-his-garden.html
Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident of animal abuse, instead we re talking about a phenomenon that occurs extremely often, all over Greece, but in the area of Salamina lately has increased dangerously. Having in mind all the researches that proved that animal abusers rarely stop at the abuse of an animal, we consider that man to be even more dangerous than one would think…now it was a dog, tomorrow it could be his child… And since we all considered that Greek laws don’t apply to animal abusers but fortunately that seemed to change to the last incident with the man of Albania origin that sledgehammered the dogs in Mosxato, who was severely punished.
We demand:
The Maximum Penalty for the accused, making him an example for all animal abusers who commit so terrible crimes, in Greece and especially in the problematic area of Salamina.
Respectfully,
Animal lovers of the world.
3. Change the American Kennel Club
I was shocked to discover that the AKC discriminate against mixed breeds by not allowing them into their classes or competitions. Mixed breeds are hardier because they are less prone to genetic conditions.
As well as this, I disagree with the way that the AKC promotes puppy mills by registering puppie that have been bred on these filthy, cramped places where female dogs are bred to exhaustion and then either killed or dumped at animal shelters.
Despite the cruelties behind this support, the AKC are planning on allowing hounds to hunt raccoons. Yes, the hounds do need to fulfil their urge to hunt, but this can be fulfilled by laying artificial scents.
As well as this, the AKC is allowing the over-breeding of dogs, which can result in pugs with such short snouts that they cannot breathe properly.
The town of Waterford, NY does not have a dog park where people can bring their dogs to release their energy.
The town has many fenced in areas that are unused most of the year, such as the tennis court on 4th St., though dog owners are not allowed to let their dogs loose in them where they can run safely off their leash.
5. STOP discriminating against the disabled
There is too much discrimination against people with disabilities in South Africa. The latest incident is against a blind lady, Ms Sanet Gouws who was told that she had to leave the MacDonald's premises in Mayville, Pretoria because she had her registered guide dog with her. Despite showing the animal's harness, papers and special tags, Ms Gouws was requested to either leave or have her milkshake outside. The outside area provided to shading and was not comfortable.
You can read the full article: http://www.beeld.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Vrou-se-oe-is-nie-welkom-20111227
Although it is against the policies of MacDonald's or other restaurants to allow animals inside the restaurant, special circumstances allow guide animals to enter the premises according to SA legislation.
6. Call for Harsher Animal Abuse Penalties in Newfoundland and Labrador
In cases of animal cruelty/neglect, the current provincial animal protection act in Newfoundland and Labrador imposes a fine no less than $50 and no more than $200 for first and second offences.
In third or subsequent offences, a fine can be issued to a maximum of $500. Compared to other provinces across the country this legislation is weak at best.
Stories of cases of animal abuse continue to circulate across the province attracting media attention and causing public outrage from animal lovers and rescue organizations witihin the province and across the maritimes.
It is time for government to take notice and revise the provinical animal protection act so it is at least on par with similar legislations across the country. For instance, in Alberta, fines can reach up to $20,000. In Ontario, up to $60,000 and in BC a fine can be issued for $5000 for a first offense and $10,000 for a second offence.
With the influx of cases of animal cruelty occurring within our province and specifically in Northern Labrador, attention must be paid! Harsher penalties for this type of offense will set an example to potential offenders and reduce the instances of repeat offenders. A $50 fine for torturing an animal is the same as no law at all!!
Please sign your name in support of this cause.
This is for Mia, a little pup from Northern Labrador who was forced to inhale gas and was inevitably damaged so badly she had to be euthanized.
It is for the puppies who were tossed out in a garbage bag and left for dead. Or the tiny pup found locked in a deep freeze barely alive.
It is for the animals of Dunville Placentia Bay who were abandoned in their home and left to starve to death and it is for every animal that has experienced, neglect, torture, cruelty, and distress at the hands of someone who should no better.
This petition will be submitted to government along with letters and documents supporting the need for change.
Please make sure your name is counted!

- view this park as a community project designed to satisfy the needs of the local canine citizens and their handlers.
A petition to support the continuation of jumps racing in South Australia and Victoria.
9. For the unrestricted movement of animals between EU countries
It is not fear to let people travel all over the Europe without any restriction and not let to do so to their animals. It is crazy to think that we could keep at home sick animal and do not treat it.
We must take pets together because only we know how to treat them best and only we love them most. How can we be happy traveling without our family friends.
Let's get EU attention and make this crazy system stop working. Our pets are like our kids to us, how can they restrict their movements, as we are free in EU.
10. Petition for Industrial Road Doggy Daycare in Oconomowoc
We are petitioning to the open a doggy daycare at N58 W39835 Industrial Rd Oconomowoc, WI 53066. We are told that we can not get the permits to open the daycare in Waukesha County it is considered a commercial kenneling facility and therefore must be on a minimum of 3 acres of land.
After researching all doggy daycare, boarding, and kennelling facilities in the Waukesha County area we have come to find that a minimum of 50% of these facilities do not meet this requirement.
We feel that we will be providing a needed service to the community and after many discussions with residents have found that there is a strong interest in this type of facility being provided.
11. Whistler Sled Dog Killer; Revoke WorkSafe BC claim for PTSD
The individual involved with the mass slaughter of Sled Dogs in Whistler should not be granted a post traumatic stress claim by WorkSafe BC. The actions that he choose were his doing, albeit influenced by his employer.
If the targets were humans and they were killed in the same senseless way would he not be behind bars right now. This individual should be prosecuted under the full extent of the law, not allowed to be free and getting compensated for this atrocious act.
12. Give Dog Owners a Fine if they don't put their dogs on a leash in Massachusetts
I am allergic to dogs, and have seen many in public parks where there are lots of signs telling dog owners kindly to have their dogs on leashes. However, I have seen many dogs NOT on leashes and this makes me very upset to see that the owners are not paying attention to the signs.
I have been on tons of chases where an eager dog (not on a leash) runs after me. Alot of owners when I tell them I am allergic to dogs they say their dogs are hypoallergenic, and they can be to some people, but not to me. I am allergic to all kinds of dogs, "hypoallergenic" or not. These dogs don't know better than to chase me, but their owners do.
The owners need to be more considerate to people who are allergic to dogs like me and keep their dogs on leashes.
13. Clean up the dog mess in Benalmadena
During the last few years, the problem of dog excrement littering the footpaths of Benalmadena has been getting out of hand. This has been highlighted on more than one occasion in the local press. The council has recently employed a water jet washer to tour the town on a weekly basis, but this is having little or no impact.
The council have promised to issue large fines to dog owners who fail to clean up their own animals mess, but no evidence of this is forthcoming. The town is now becoming a health hazard, and very soon holidaymakers will be turning their backs on the resort they love.
Signs similar to the one attached to this petition need to be placed around the town.
It's no good having a beautiful park, marina and paseo when the footpaths that take you there are covered in stinking dog mess. Benalmadena would not exist without the tourists, so I challenge the council to act before it is too late.
14. Keep Pavilion Park Dog Friendly
Pavilion Park will soon undergo major renovations. Plans call for a raised platform lawn, the removal of the park gates and (most unfortunately) removal of the dog run.
Because Pavilion Park has a long happy tradition of welcoming ALL community members including the furry ones that bark, it is our intent that this petition make clear that once Pavilion Park is renovated, the community intends to continue to welcome all members of the community there including well behaved, on-leash dogs.
Because dog owners are community members who also enjoy sitting in tranquil parks, it is important that our UES community continue to provide some dog-friendly public parks. None of the other 8 parks surrounding Pavilion Park are dog friendly -- including 5 Sutton Place Parks, the Queensboro Oval Park, 24 Sycamores and St. Catherine’s Parks. '
Athough the near by East River esplanade is dog-friendly, it is not a genuine park. It is an urban waterfront Greenway -- a pedestrian and bicycle shared use path -- and not a tranquil park setting.
It is very important that Pavilion Park remain dog-friendly to ensure that all human members of the community -- those with and those without dogs continue to have tranquil park settings within which they can spend time with family and friends or even just with a furry friend of two.
15. Repeal the Breed Ban in Denmark
Over 400.000 dogs are now in danger in Denmark. The Danish Government has passed a breed ban law, 13 breeds are now forbidden in Denmark, and also any mix of these breeds.
The Government has introduced reverse burden of proof, so the owners of Dogs that look like these breeds, now have to proof that they are not, which as we all know, can not be done with DNA. If you can't lift the burden of proof - the dog will be euthanized

It has been reported that 350 animals, cats and dogs, have been infected with ringworm. According to studies, ringworm is curable. There are many methods to cure ringworm, but may take a several months.
According to the Canadian Press Article
(http://news.ca.msn.com/canada/cp-article.aspx?cp-documentid=24206729) , OSPCA has decided that euthanization is the best solution because it will take several months to cure ringworm and have no time nor money for this treatment. It has been discovered that the outbreak was caused by human error. Protocols for identifying ringworm in the animals were not followed.
OSPCA should find an alternative, for example, raising money for treatment and taking time to treat the animals oppose to terminating them. There are many alternatives, they should find the best one. An animal should not loose their life because of a human error- it was not their fault, it was human error.

18. Fenced Dog Park For Penrith
We are wanting Penrith Council to look at fencing one of their off leash areas for dogs . At either the Jamison Park Off Leash Area or the one at Boundary Rd Cranebrook.
Would like as many members as possible and we are also looking at having some sheets to put your names on at some of the local vets.
If anyone is interested in helping please show your support in joining the Facebook Group Page "FENCED DOG PARK FOR PENRITH" and spread the word.
19. Build a New Pflugerville Animal Shelter
1. The current animal shelter is too small and filled to capacity with animals much of the time. There is no outside run attached to the dog shelter so the dogs are unable to get fresh air during the day.
2. The cages for the cats and smaller dogs are very small which leaves the animals very little room to move around and to get proper ventilation.
3. The animal shelter lacks central heating and air conditioning. Even with the use of wall fans, the temperatures in the shelter have reached 95 to 100 degrees. In the winter, since the quarantine-side outside wall is made up of a chain-link fence, a plastic tarp is placed over it to keep the cold air out.
4. The Pflugerville Animal Shelter is not located in a very visible location. It’s behind a subdivision and as a result many citizens and animal rescue groups aren’t aware that it exists.
20. STOP Surgical Bark Removal! It's inhumane!
FEBRUARY 5, 2010
Earlier this week, The New York Times ran an article on debarking dogs, a surgery that muffles the sound of a dog's bark.
The U.K. has a legal ban against debarking as a form of mutilation. The American Veterinary Association recommends that the surgery be done only as a last resort to stop an incessant barker, and many veterinarians refuse to debark. But attempts to ban debarking have failed in several states. Why does the dog-loving American culture still debark dogs?
Debarking is a surgical procedure the involves clipping a dog's vocal cords and removing some of them. The surgery is painful and can have serious complications. Scar tissue can build up in a dog's throat, making it difficult for the dog to breathe. This can lead to multiple surgeries for the poor pooch.
Dogs bark to communicate. My dog, Holly, is a rescue dog and she barks in obvious fear at men with white hair. She doesn't bark at other dogs, with the exception of her arch nemesis, Jessie. Holly barks with such wild ferocity at Jessie that she leaves spittle on my windows. Holly also lets out high-pitched yips to tell me she needs water, a walk, or that she was supposed to be fed a full three minutes ago.
If Holly barked all the time, I would know something was wrong. A non-stop barker may be an anxious, bored, or unhappy dog. Debarking treats the symptom, and not the problem.
Finally, the good news: The U.S. Congress Massachusetts is seriously considering a law against debarking. 15-year-old Jordan Star has been the motivating force behind the bill called "Logan's Law." Logan's Law was named for a debarked dog who was abandoned after the surgery. Logan's attempts to bark were heartbreaking for the family who adopted him. Logan's Law is now in the third reading, which could mean a victory for dogs and for the young Star.
The law, if enacted, would be know as Logan’s Law and would make it illegal to debark a dog unless it is deemed a medical necessity. Anyone found breaking the law would face up to five years in state prison and a mental-health evaluation.
America HAS A VOICE! Let the Congress hear it! Let's support the ban against debarking! Sign this petition!
21. Poo Who ?
Fulham residents parents, school children and pre-school children are fed up with the dog poo on Vera Road and Colehill or 'Poohill' Lane, it really is a blight on our local enviroment and we want it to stop.
We request that people sign our petition and work together to make our local streets a more pleasant environment.
22. National Geographic: Stop showing Cesar Millan
It is believed by many expert dog trainers and behaviourists that Cesar Millan's methods can make dogs more aggressive and in some cases are cruel and abusive towards the dogs.
By showing Cesar Millan the National Geographic channel is condoning these methods and encouraging many people to try them out for themselves.
In inexpert hands these methods are dangerous and warnings of 'do not try this at home' are inadequate to prevent people copying the methods.

23. Make Pasadena Humane Society a NO KILL Shelter
The “No Kill” movement ensures all healthy and adoptable animals are given the opportunity to find a home. The Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA (“PHS”), despite having extensive resources of over $5.57 million in revenue in 2008, continues to be a kill shelter.
Many other shelters in the area and all over the country are “No Kill” and have less funding, such as San Gabriel and Glendale Humane Societies, as well as the cities of New York and San Francisco. Adoptable animals are being senselessly killed at PHS because of “space,” despite the extensive financial, volunteer and community resources of Pasadena and its surrounding areas.
Recently PHS won the licensing for the city of Glendale and consequently an even larger number of animals’ lives are at risk. By becoming “No Kill” PHS could potentially save the lives of many adoptable animals.
24. Support a Dog Park in Richmond Hill, GA
This petition, supported by the undersigned, is directed to the Mayor, City Council and Park Officials of Richmond Hill, GA. Its goal is to support the construction of an enclosed, off-leash dog park in a centralized, convenient location within the city limits. A full proposal is currently being developed that will be presented to the city along with this petition.
This park would be a designated area where well-behaved canine citizens, can exercise and have fun in a clean, safe environment. We want to create a beautiful, well-maintained space open to all dog lovers and friends, who will be willing to uphold the park's rules and restrictions. The park will be designed to satisfy the needs of dog-owners and non-dog owners alike. We aim for this park to be a community project, supported in part by volunteer dog-owners and maintained in partnership with the City of Richmond Hill.
In many cities, dog parks are very common. You can view the list of dog parks in each city and state by visiting this website: http://www.dogparkusa.com.
The large number of success of dog parks all over the country demonstrated that when a group of concerned and responsible dog owner's work together for a leash-free dog park, not only can this concept work but it can thrive and enrich the community. Richmond Hill is filled with so many dog-lover residents who have voiced their desire for such a park.
We are asking the City of Richmond Hill to allow the construction of a dog park for the following reasons:
-Such a park would allow families with dogs to spend more quality time with their pets.
-This park would increase opportunities for residents to interact with their neighbors and help create a sense of community.
-Socializing dogs is very beneficial to the community, since it makes them less skittish and can mitigate aggressive behavior when meeting other dogs and people.
-Many dog owners do not have a fenced in yard where their dogs can spend time outside, and leashes greatly limit the dog's space and pace.
-regular exercise is great for any dog's longevity and weight control. The overall effect of regular exercise makes most dogs calmer and better behaved.
Please help us create a dedicated space that allows our dogs to have a place to run and enjoy the beautiful city!
If you would like to be involved in our efforts, you can email me at twohugedimples@hotmail.com. I can update you on the next steps and see how you may be able to help with this project.
25. Stop the Dog Control Order in Elmbridge
ELMBRIDGE COUNCIL ARE PROPOSING A DOG CONTROL ORDER, TO ENSURE ALL DOGS ARE WALKED ON LEADS IN ALL OPEN SPACES AND NO MORE THAN 3 DOGS PER PERSON. THIS INCLUDES PARKS AND WOODS AND COMMON LAND.
This was apparently first discussed at a Cabinet meeting on the 1st April 2009 and we now only have until 30th November 2009 in which to register our complaints.
(We also urge you to log onto www.elmbridge.gov.uk and go to the Dog Control Orders and complete the online questionnaire. You can also write to Elmbridge Council at Civic Centre, High Street, Esher, KT10 9SD or ring the council and ask for a questionnaire to be sent.)
26. Stop Beastiality Being Allowed Online And Offline
I'm writing this petition against human beings that sexually abuse animals.
How can there be people doing this to our animals? We as human beings have the ability to express ourselves, but our animals dont have a voice.
Everyday more and more websites are created catering for beastiality. Beastiality is wrong and should not be practiced, the animals dont have a choice, they can't tell you they are being abused. They can't express themselves to you in a way that you could possibly understand how they're being used and abused everyday to beasteality.
The people who run those kind of websites should not profit from torturing the animals, and the users viewing the sites should seek help if this is the kind that gets them off. We have the right to say no to any kind of sexual advance, but animals do not, they are at our mercy.
Beastiality is not normal, is not natural, its just wrong, sick and disturbing.
27. Facebook - Option to remove guard dog on Farm Pals
The facebook application Farm Pals lets you get a free dog if you get 10 friends to sign up.
However, once you get the dog, no one can steal from the farm at all, and you cannot remove the dog, or distract it.
28. Ban the dog or ban the owner? "What is a dangerous dog?"
I have 2 well-behaved GSD's (German Shepard dog) and both are lovable, gentle with humans (especially Kids) and Trained. My wife & I as owners are also all of the above (I am definitely lovable) with regards to understanding our dogs and enjoying the walks, training and fun you can have with your dogs.
The other day whilst going through the fun, walking & training (part of the every day procedure that all dogs should receive). We were with a group of other owners and their dogs, this is also an important part of loving your dog by teaching them socialisation skills with both humane and other animals, when an unfortunate incident occurred, A Guy with two dogs sat on a park bench and allowed his two to do their own thing without any form of control from him. These two dogs went up to a puppy and it immediately laid on it’s back in a submissive gesture and the two dogs started the sniffing that all dogs do. Unfortunately it went a bit too far and the pup started yelping as these two dogs became aggressive.
Up until this point no one (human or Dog) had taken anymore than a watching interest. As the scene got ugly my eldest GSD closely followed by the younger one ran to the pups rescue and literally barged into the two dogs that had got aggressive and chased them back toward their owner who still had not moved from the park bench. At no stage had any barking, growling or biting been used by my two just an ‘Alpha Dog’ "get out of here" prominence to the two aggressive dogs. Fortunately the pup was OK but the pup’s owners were a bit upset. The point of this story is not to say how great my dogs are but one of putting breeds into dangerous categories. All dogs should be taken as individuals not as breeds. A middle-aged lady with a little snappy dog once said to me a while back "my dog is afraid of Alsatians! I replied, "They are not Alsatians" "Oh OK then, German Shepherds" she replied. And although this may sound sarcastic I replied, "They are not German Shepherds, they are Dog's"
People seem to forget that dogs are firstly a dog and secondly a breed and the way they are treated/trained is what makes them aggressive or not. I fully believe the statement "there are no bad dogs just bad owners". To get back to the reason for this petition is that my wife & I along with our two dogs are going on a land rover club rally and will be spending 10 days on a caravan site. Under the site's rules and regulations it welcomes dogs with the normal "must be on a lead, any mess must be picked and so on conditions all of which are understandable, how ever on a completely different page on their web site under fees there is a small section that states that Alsatians pit-bulls rottweilers etc are not allowed.
On phoning them I was given the answer they might bite! Although I explained to them that any dog "might bite" they were discriminating against large breeds unfairly. And that is what I would like this petition to show. How many rescued people have been found by a small dog? NOT MANY!! How many people have been bitten by a small dog? – Loads!! (Please don’t think I am against small dogs I love all animals it’s just that small dogs don’t get the bad press that large dogs get if they should bite someone.
And to finish off by repeating the statement.
"There are no bad dogs just bad owners"
29. Support the Rights of Responsible Dog Owners in Weymouth & Portland
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council have proposed four Dog Control Orders. The rights of responsible dog owners to freely walk their dogs in the borough will be seriously curtailed by two of these orders.
One order will compel dog owners to have their dog on a lead at all times in Lodmoor Country Park, the Rodwell Trail, Portland Bill and a number of other public green spaces in the Borough.
The other order will ban dogs from the Town Beach for the whole of the year not just the summer months as at present.
Everyone knows there is no such thing as a bad dog ... only a bad owner.
Blame the deed not the Breed!
Pit bulls are not any more dangerous than any other dog.
