1. Disallow the Discriminatory Hiring Policy Against Veiled Women
Fact: Lebanon has a multi religious community with a legislated right of freedom of choice of religion and of labor. Yet some women, having an Islamic dress-code (i.e veil) are denied to work at companies with this unethical & unjust policy.
E.g: Virgin Megastore (Ongoing Stats)
2. No to Discriminatory Residential Parking Zones
The Maltese Court of Appeal has declared that "Residential Reserved Parking Zones" are discriminatory. The Maltese Government disregarded the Court's decision and authorised the Transport Authority to provide such parking zones.
We object to the government's attitude and declare that we do not want any privileges but insist on having equal parking rights in any locality.
3. Support Homestyle Bakery & the Black Lion Pub
Issues of fairness with respect to this business & the city need to be reviewed.
4. Abolish School Budget Votes
The only State Budget that is decided and voted on by the people is the School Budget. Tax increases occur all the time to support all other areas of New York State run "businesses", without a vote from the people.
The one and only budget that supports children and their education is the School Budget and this is voted on by the people and can be rejected. This is discriminatory and unconstitutional!
Children have a constitutional right to a strong, appropriate, and free education, yet if a School Budget fails they lose. Prisoners have more rights than children. We do not vote on a budget that supplies prisoners with the supplies they need and they broke the law. Prisoners are guilty of a crime and are paying the price based on our law of the land. But what price are we paying? What price are the children paying? Why are the innocent children and future of this State paying a higher price than the lawbreakers? Why is the law unfair and discriminatory?
This needs to stop now! The State Legislators need to find a formula that provides schools the appropriate funding that is necessary to perform the duties the State mandates. These monies should be incorporated in our taxes just like all other areas of State budgets and funding, for example, prisoner's supplies.
We need immediate action as this is becoming a detriment to our children and their future and the future of the State of New York.
5. Demand Indonesian new VP to apologize for discriminatory remarks on ethnic Chinese minority
Indonesian new VP (Jusuf Kalla) said and published in the "Sinar Harapan" daily 12th October 2004, that Chinese minority in Indonesia had 2 choices:
1. To be discriminated against,
2. To have their property burnt (referring to May 1998 riot).
He also made remarks referring to May 1998 riot that the tragedy was due to wide gap in income between indigenous and Chinese minority, which is totally wrong. The tragedy was yet to be investigated properly as it was believed to be orchestrated by some anti-Chinese groups in the country. By saying, that he also justify the violence against Chinese minority and encourage such sentiment to flourish again.
His remark is regrettable, especially when he is the Vice-President.
6. End Bolt's Unfair Discriminatory Practices
Description/History:
Recently, Bolt has decided to put in place, and enforce discriminatory policies regarding the age of posters on certain boards.
Their stance is that posters on boards falling under the category of "sex and Dating" need to be 24 years of age and under. It is important to note that boards such as "Marriage and Commitment" "Long Distance relationships" "Abstinence" "Birth Control" and many other relatively innocuous boards fall under this heading.
This is not simply a meeting place for teens looking to flirt, but a place where people can discuss, ask questions, and look for answers. Sometimes it is people a bit older, who have lived a bit longer, who are best suited to answer these questions.
Please help us put an end to Bolt's discriminatory practices, and let them know that you value all members of the Bolt community- recognizing them all as an important part of this site.
