61. Workplace rights for Australian workers

It has been my experience that some employers in the disability sector can and do treat their staff any way they like, without having to answer to anyone or any supposed laws.

These employers need to be named and exposed.

62. Automatic Disability Living Allowance for People with Kidney Failure

A lot of people in this country suffer from Renal Failure (Kidney Failure). However when applying for disability money they are refused time and time again.

This petition is aimed to make kidney failure an automatic disability. Kidney failure in itself is a very disabling thing, your body cannot get rid of toxins and you stop passing urine so you have a build up of fluid.

It also causes anemia and hypertension. You are often weak and breathless and can barely do easy day to day tasks.

63. Creation of an AMA Disability Advisory Committee

Presently, the perspective of people with disabilities is not formally represented in the structure of the AMA. This petition calls for the AMA to demonstrate its commitment to the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the ongoing work of the AMA by creating a Disability Advisory Committee.

As the largest organization of medical doctors in the country, one of the AMA's primary purposes is to promote better public health for all, including people with disabilities. In order to achieve this goal, it is critical that the AMA regularly communicate with people with disabilties about matters that specifically affect them.

Several recent medical cases underscore the necessity for creating a formalized forum dedicated to a dialogue between the AMA organization and staff and people with disabilities, not least the recent controversial case involving the "growth attenuation" treatment that was given to the young girl known to us as Ashley, which involved procedures that violated state law.

This petition is part of an ongoing effort by advocates to seek AMA engagement on the creation of a Disability Advisory Committee as quickly as possible.

64. Winter fuel payments for people with disabilities under 60

For a long time various disability campaign groups have been calling on the Government to award people with severe disabilities under the age of 60 Winter Fuel Payments.

Unfortunately this is still not happening today. People who have severe disabilities still suffer from the cold just as much as elderly people and we need to come together as one voice against this unfair policy.

65. Make Human Services of Wisconsin Accountable for their mistakes

Mistake 2: In December of 2003 I contacted Elizabeth Gilbertson to inform her that I was going to give notice at work and go back to school. I was terrified of these people I worked with. They felt no shame for lying. Just to cause trouble they would lie. The final straw was when an agent e-mailed me with "missing money in the subject line of the e-mail. I went to the Union and Attorney Radosovich. They both said not to worry. I was not willing to take any such chance since I was in charge of all the money DOC took in. I wanted to be sure that Katherine and Daniel would have health care.

I knew that I would not financially be able to replace health care for my family. I was assured by Elizabeth Gilbertson that the children would be eligible Katie would continue on Title 19 and the CIP and Daniel would be eligible for Badger care as well as me.

ABC's for Health and Family Services of Sheboygan also confirmed what Ms. Gilbertson had said.

I also informed Elizabeth Gilbertson in January that I would be unable to pay the cost share of $364 she said, "don't worry about it."

They did cut all of our health care. The total financial cost is above 150,000.00 I did print the e-mail as proof and showed it to the Attorney and the Union Steve Pfundtner..

219 Curt I get disability and it took over a year to get then medicaid wouldnt cover the hospital bills more than 90 days back leaving me screwed drowning in medical bills.
218 Adrienne Smith It is hard enough to get disability and has taken me two yrs to get before a judge. Now you want to change everything that people on disabiity need. We are still people. Most of us have worked very hard in our lives, and no one asked to get sick or disabled in anyway. Some day I would hope to re-marry, however, it seems that you are forcing people to live together instead of the instiution of marriage which is sacred. We can not lose money because we want to marry and live some kind of life. Please do no go through with any kind of "taking away from the disabled people of the United States". Our goverment seems more concerned with giving money to people in other countries than taking care of the born and raised US citizians.
Adrienne Smith
217 Wendy Gantos I am a disabled attorney and cannot practice due to my disability. I had to wait 2 years for my employer to give me long term disability. During that time, I tried to get food stamps, and the process was so ridiculously long and hard, I never got them! Now if an attorney can't figure out the system, how can the rest of the country figure it out. I live now on disability and my bills are way more than my income every month. I can't even afford to pay my student loans. Great country, huh?
216 Ron Bones My wife is on ssi&ssd,I'm a disabled Vet with only 30% and we barely get through the month. food stamps only go so far when what you get isn't even half of what a single friend gets because she lives in a different part of the State. Tehy need to get the system worked out so that everything is equal. But I doubt we'llsee it soon. You know the old saying: SURE YOU CAN TRUST OUR GOVERMENT...JUST ASK ANY NATIVE AMERICAN!
215 Liz DeWitt Please, do not abolish social security. We need it.
214 Katherine M. Aaron Please support the disabled in this country. They already have to jump through hoops just to be approved and it certainly causes financial hardship on a family that are unecessary.
213 Joyce A Spencer People who marry they have disabilities. They end up losing some money. How in this country can they live could. When they pay more out of there checks every month.People should not have money taken away from them.Just because they marry.
212 rita stafford-bones Execellent point
211 Sophie D.
210 Teddy G. Bryant How far will this govt. go to be out of control and to take away benefits taxpayers have paid the govt., and to which they have the right?
209 Kathy Rogers I'm the mother of a disabled young adult. Our people in the US should taken care of before others. Forcing people to live alone or divorce a spouse to receive benefits is inhumane.
208 John Davis Remember Tim Cratchett? (Dickens-A Christmas Carol) You don't really want to see a nation of them do you? Give us the tools to maintain our dignity and ability to still be productive citizens!
207 Jacqueline McVicar What happened to taking care of our own? Shouldn't citizens of the United States receive aide before any other country?
206 Mike Pearson We can afford WAR , but we can't afford those with diabilities. and we say we are a Christian Nation???
205 Joanne D. Ferguson This is so important!
204 Dixie Boyd I am on disability. I cannot get glasses. I cannot get dental. I don't have transportation. If I marry I will loose my own benefits... WHAT KIND OF COUNTRY IS THIS?
203 Mary Runyon The disabled in this country deserve so much better and humane treatment.
202 Adriana Lortia
201 LINDA THE GOV SUX !!! GOOD LUCK KENDALL
200 Paul Manning
199 Priscilla Peters It seems to me That the Government makes it almost impossible for people to be Married...Please Help Us
198 Debi Koscielski My goverment supports & pushes its religious beliefs on me by promoting marrage & its religious right, yet punishes me by taking my disability when I comply. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!
CHANGE THE LAW BEFORE i DIVORCE MY HUSBAND & YOU FORCE ME TO SIN EVEN MORE BY LIVING WITH HIM!
197 Barry Berger
196 Diane Grugan-Duvall I am the mother of a child with a disability.
195 Laurie Furlong I am the parent of a young adult with disabilities and I volunteer working with disabled. I support reform of the marriage penalty to SSI recipients.

WOULD GREATLY APRECIATE FURTHER SUPPORT FOR THIS CAUSE ON BEHALF OF AMERICA'S DISABLED.

67. A fair go for Disability Support Pensioners

The Liberal Party of Australia will have absolute legislative control of Parliament as from June 2005. One of the Government's first acts will be to slash the entitlements of people with disabilities.

The major change will be classifying anyone able to work 15 hours per week as no longer eligible for disability support, and instead, being classified as unemployed. This will subject an estimated 60,000 Australians already living in poverty to even worse poverty.

68. Protect VeteransÂ’ Benefits and Removal of Rep Steve Buyer as Chairman of House Veterans Affairs Com

The intent of this petition is to protect veterans' benefits and have Rep. Buyer removed as the Chairman of House Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Rep. Buyer seeks to redefine who is a veteran. We must not allow Congress to redefine who is a veteran. We cannot allow Congress to restructure veterans' benefits and reshape the definitions of disability. Redefine at a time when over 10,000 young men and women have been wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, at a time when young men and women have become disabled while training to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan. Veterans and veterans' organizations have worked too hard for too long to not receive proper recognition for our service to our country.

Title 38, Veterans' Benefits, United States Code defines a "veteran" as: "The term "veteran" means a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable."
Also defined in Title 38 is "in the line of duty": "An injury or disease incurred during active military, naval, or air service will be deemed to have been incurred in line of duty and not the result of the veteran's own misconduct when the person on whose account benefits are claimed was, at the time the injury was suffered or disease contracted, in active military, naval, or air service, whether on active duty or on authorized leave, unless such injury or disease was a result of the person's own willful misconduct or abuse of alcohol or drugs."

Rep Buyer would like to redefine who is a veteran at a time when America shows a gratitude for her veterans, a time when America respects and treats her veterans with dignity. He is attempting to segregate our veterans, "the disabled and indigent veterans" (his core constituency) and then all others. Rep. Buyer is seeking to make these changes while our country is sending their servicemen and women world wide to fight the war on terror. He must realize that not everyone can serve in the war zone and that some stationed in the United States and other areas are working in direct support of Iraq, Afghanistan and the war on terrorism.

Recruitment of our all volunteer force is falling short of its goals. The Army fell almost one-third short of its recruiting goal in March, its second consecutive month of shortfall amid concerns that the Iraq war is discouraging young people from enlisting. The Army's goal for March was to enlist 6,800 recruits, but it fell short by 2,150, or 32 percent. That was slightly worse than in February when a goal of 7,050 enlistees was missed by 1,936, or 27 percent. The target for April is 6,600. The Army Reserve did even worse in March than the regular Army. It recruited barely half the 1,600 soldiers it wanted for the month. It has not met a monthly goal since December 2004, and for the period from October 2004 through March it has met only 82 percent of its goal. Rep Buyer's "visions" will only add to already existing recruiting shortfalls.

Fellow veterans, it's time to take action. It's time to let our Congressional Representatives know we will not allow Congress to redefine who is a veteran or restructure veterans' benefits and reshape the definitions of disability. It is time they understand veteran's care will be our priority in voting in the next elections, congressional as well as presidential.

69. Ontario Stop Clawback of National Child Benefit Supplement From Disabled

Ontario continues to clawback almost all of the National Child Benefit Supplement from Ontario Disability Support Program recipients. The money is given to you from your federal government only to be taken away by your Ontario government. The clawback is unfair to the children of disabled people and these children will continue to suffer at the hands of the Ontario Government until this process is stopped.

The purpose of the National Child Benefit Supplement is so that it reaches those children most in need.... the clawback makes sure it doesnt.

Please sign the petitition.

Stand up and help protect the rights of the disabled on ODSP. Stand up for the children of disabled people suffering at the hands of this government.

One voice will not be heard. We need to make ourselves heard as a unit, so that they understand that its a matter that needs immediate attention.
We, citizens of Ontario, disabled persons on ODSP with children living in Ontario, families of disabled persons, friends of disabled persons, ontario communities, will no longer tolerate the Ontario Governments abuse towards this group of people and thier children.

70. Save S.A.D.I. (Stroke And Disability Information (Hunter) Inc.)

Stroke And Disability Information (Hunter) Inc., known as S.A.D.I., originally commenced in 1988 as an advocacy and information service to strokees and their families and was then called Stroke Recovery Hunter Outreach Centre. Acceptance of a government grant required that we drop the Stroke Recovery from our name and include all disabilities. The funding allows us to employ one full-time Coordinator and one part-time Clerical Assistant. The Management Committee is a body of volunteers and we have 2 - 3 volunteers who work in the office as well as a small number of volunteers who work in the community organising localised Stroke Recovery Clubs. Our aim is to provide help and support to ALL people with disabilities, their carers and families, especially strokees. We currently have a clientele of 2000 individuals. Funding is in the order of $55,000/year. Our funding body, Department of Ageing, Disability & Home Care in conjunction with Home and Community Care, is now planning to withdraw funding.

71. Change the Linking Rule

The linking rule applies to DLA (disability living allowance) paid to disabled people for their care. If they go into respite care, and do not have twenty eight days in between breaks, they lose it. This means that carers may get a break, say at the sart of the school holidays, and they may have had a break two weeks before. They may then go all through the school holidays with no breah at all. This means that people are providing skilled nursing care, with no union no rights and no money, because they lose their DLA because of the two weeks. Confused? So are disabled people and their carers! Please help.

72. Immigration to the USA - Modify I-864 Affidavit of Support

Petition for fairness in Immigration Procedures to update I-864 Affidavit of Support to allow work authorization (EAD)without requirement of financial sponsorship!

I'm not able to work because my spouse has a disability and is on a fixed income which is below the required poverty guidelines. This creates an impass or barrier which is extremely difficult to conquer. I cannot file I-485 Adjustment of Status without a financial sponsor that we cannot find.
Since, we have come across many similar situations with other immigrants having this particular problem, we are petitioning for modification/waiver of I-864 Affidavit of Support in such conditions where a person is unable to provide previous tax records or sponsor due to disability/illness.

73. A Time For Change

Disabled persons in Newfoundland & Labrador have come under recent attack via Health and Community Services, whereby long term established care has been tested and tried by appointed Community Health Boards which lack educated and experienced personnel in being able to make proper judgment calls in often life threatening medical situations.

These boards are without specific direction or education on the need of individual clients and situations have arisen where disabled individuals have been left helpless and alone to provide for themselves.

Assessments previously conducted on clients with programs and services in effect as a result of these assessments have in many cases been privy to the discretion of front line workers, whereby irrational decisions have been made, and negatively affecting client services. Clients with sever and life altering disabilities are now being placed in unfair predicaments and many are taking ill.

Hospitalization of various individuals with severe disability requires specifically trained and experienced individuals to care for the patient. In all cases if this is a requirement of clients under the umbrella of Health and Community Services, then funding is channeled to the client for the purpose of employing these client supports. If however a client is hospitalized for more than 72 hours he/she will lose both funding and supportive service of the employee. This often puts grave detriment on the patient as most hospital staff are generally trained and have no experience in disease specific disability.

Persons with such osteo disease are now at severe risk of injury. This has to change.
