1. WJJG is For Smart Shows Only

Not only did 2011 see the sudden death of Joe Gentile, but the removal of intelligent programming and music from weekdays (and even parts of the weekend).

It is totally unfair to get rid of Angry White Male, Job Talk, John DiVita's Morning Show, and other programming that made WJJG an amazing radio station.

Mancow should not be on at all. He is incoherent and his show does not belong on a community radio station like WJJG. Michael Savage should be aired in two hours or removed too, and sent back to WIND.

If you believe that WJJG should continue with original programming and music during weekdays, please sign this petition. This is an outrage and we need to keep whatever we have left of special radio stations like WJJG.

2. ACTON BATHS CLOSURE PETITION

Friends, fellow council tax payers and gym users
Did you know?

The council is planning to close this facility as early as the 4th of December 2011?

BUT:

•They have not published or responded to the results of the latest (July 2011) public consultation

•They have no final approved plans for the much lauded regeneration project

•They have no confirmed funding in place

•They have not applied for planning permission

•They have not found alternative facilities for some of the clubs and user groups (as promised) that have served the community for years!

If they are allowed to close this facility – YOUR FACILITY – without any of these commitments in place, we face the very real prospect of an abandoned and derelict building in the heart of our community and the absence of any pool or gym facilities in Acton for the foreseeable future.

3. We love our NHS in Brighton & Hove

The Tory-led Government are forcing the NHS to make £20 billion cuts. As a result, waiting times are already increasing, including in Brighton & Hove.

While slashing NHS budgets, the Tory-led Government are planning a top-down restructure of the NHS. This is despite promising not to do so before they were elected.

As well as these changes having no mandate, they will bring more bureaucracy, waste and private competition to the NHS.

Join us in our fight to save the NHS and to keep it a public service organisation, not a free market.

4. Impeach Bob Blackman, MP

Directors of a company told lies to their workers about the financial state of the organization and abused an invoice factoring service by submitting large numbers of invoices for goods that were never manufactured.

They then took advantage of loopholes in Employment law to withhold wages and cheat employees out of money owed, leaving them poorer, stressed, suffering sleepless nights, and ultimately unemployed.

Harrow East MP, Bob Blackman was asked to take action in this case; but instead procrastinated and failed to have the aforementioned Directors struck off, failed to pass legislation to close the legal loopholes, ignored calls for an inquiry into this scandal, and instead claimed that this issue is "not in the public interest". He now refuses to answer further correspondence about this scandal.

Therefore, we say that this matter is in the public interest, that Bob Blackman has failed to represent the concerns of his constituents, and therefore should resign or be impeached from Public office. More details here.

Nature of this Petition:
We the undersigned oppose the cuts in doorstep bin collections at farm, rural, outlying and hard to reach properties, resulting from the Special Meeting of the Council Cabinet on 26th January 2011, because of the negative disruption, cost and littering it causes to residents and all affected neighbours.

BACKGROUND
This petition opposes the cutbacks in household doorstep bin collections. These are being imposed in Rossendale by the council, without consultation or regard for the high cost and negative impact on residents.

Residents affected by the cutbacks pay high Council tax and have a basic right to have household waste collected from their properties. People living in rural areas are being unfairly discriminated against. These are valid reasons why cuts in front line services are not merited.

These cutbacks in front line services are likely to be just the first step. There is real concern that the council will go further in the future by having more residents handle and transfer smelly household waste to central collection points.

Thousands of residents from 700 properties in farm, rural, outlying and hard to reach parts of Rossendale who are having their bin collections axed and will have to take their rubbish up to two miles to their nearest collection point, known as a ‘dump site’.

Thousands of additional properties are affected and residents are opposed to the cuts in front line services and imposition of unwanted ‘rubbish dump sites’ nearby to their homes, to be used for dropping waste for storage and collection.

Waste has to be at the rubbish dump site by 7am on the day of the collection, but cannot be dropped off the night before, meaning residents have to get up at dawn to get there. There are widespread concerns that rubbish will unnecessarily blight residents around the collection points.

Rossendale Council claim they will save £75,800 by binning collections at farms and rural locations, however this figure is unsubstantiated and likely to be significantly overstated when the true costs of setting up the dump sites, changes to staffing practices and provision of car boot liners are taken into account.

Those affected by the cuts say they are being ‘short changed’ after handing over thousands in council tax every year. Many of the rural properties pay council tax of more than £2,000 per year but the council is cutting services with no redress for residents.

A council decision to introduce recycling to around 700 properties was initially taken by the previous Conservative council. However the current Labour controlled council is going further with cuts in front line services and seems uninterested in reversing that decision. Residents are supportive of recycling and are awaiting proposals from the council on a recycling scheme.

The council is claiming that consultations are taking place, but from the outset, continuation of front line collection services has never been an option. Many of the affected residents have not been fairly consulted and have raised concerns to councillors. There is a lot of ill feeling about the way this is being handled by the council. The council is attempting to claim that residents are readily accepting these cuts in front line services and impositions of dump sites, but there is little evidence of this and Councillors are coming forward to acknowledge that there has been an unfair lack of proper consultation before any decisions were taken.

Residents are in the process of organising further meetings. Check back here for details.

Please support your neighbours in opposing the cutbacks by signing this petition and inform everyone you know who has an interest.

6. End Lib-Dem cooperation with the Coalition

A coalition is when two or more parties in government work together, either because of similar ideology or to achieve an elective majority, theoretically reaching compromises on important subjects to achieve a roughly even legislative record (issue #1 goes to party A, issue #2 goes to party B in exchange. It's not ideal, but both parties get something they want).

This coalition fails in both of those regards.

The Lib-Dems do not, and should not, have even a remotely similar political ideology to the Conservative Party. Similarly, the Tories have little to nothing in common with the Lib-Dems, and compromises on major issues have been non-existent. Instead, only a series of humiliating concessions have been made, and the Prime Minister has seen fit to lend his weight to sabotaging even these, as has been made clear with the referendum.

This is not a coalition, it is a Tory government masquerading as a coalition, pinning the blame for their actions on the Liberal Democrats whilst slowly eating their electoral base.

It is a state of affairs that cannot continue, and thus the Liberal Democrats must salvage what is left of their reputation and leave this ship of government before they are nailed to the mast. They do not deserve the criticisms aimed at them, and if they are to avoid decimation at the next election they must realise their mistake early, pull out, and assume a campaign of coordinated blocking of the government's supposed-reforms until concessions are made on major points of Lib-Dem policy and tangible results are produced as a result.

10. Stop unfair changes in employment law

The ConDem coalition is beginning to flex its' muscles and are following a Tory ideological aversion (with Lib Dem support) to employee rights. The attitude of the Lib Dems is particularly disappointing.

They are proposing under a Employers Charter to 'raise the bar' for protection against unfair dismissal from one years service to two. This will mean thousands of more workers will be dismissed unfairly and there will be nothing they can do! They are also proposing to force those who will still be able to claim to lodge a deposit of cash into Court to be forfeited in the event they lose their case! In reality this will mean that many workers will not be able to afford such a deposit and will have to give up seeking their rights.

The Government sees these measures as a way of paying back their big-business backers post election.

14. Protect Norwich's Grass Verges!

Norwich South parliamentary candidate Antony Little has called for action to save our City's grass verges!

Responding to the concerns of hundreds of residents regarding the state of Norwich's green verges, Antony has launched a campaign to see them cleaned up, protected and most importantly, green.

Commenting, Antony said: "I have launched this campaign regarding the state of our green verges because it has been an issue that has arisen often on the doorstep. I hope I can have the support of residents in pushing the council to seek solutions to this, such as installing wooden posts and more trees to stop cars driving onto the verges in the first place."

"We are lucky to have a very beautiful City where many residents take a great deal of care and pride over the appearance of Norwich. By protecting our grass verges and ensuring that they don't become tyre track covered mud pits, we can create a more pleasant environment for all."

"I encourage residents of all political leanings to sign up and save our grass verges!"

15. Begin the immediate withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan

During the election campaign many politicians are trying to avoid the issue of the war in Afghanistan.
This is because despite the massive popular opposition the the war, all three main parties support it.

We believe the war should be a central issue in the election campaign. British soldier deaths and expenditure are spiralling upwards just at a time when
all parties are calling for massive cuts in public spending. The projected costs of the war this year are almost the same as the amount the government plan to cut from the NHS.

Meanwhile the war is creating misery and destruction for the people of Afghanistan.

19. Support the resignation of Defence Minister Peter MacKay

In November-December 2009, as Minister of Defence MacKay was involved with the Canadian Afghan detainee abuse scandal. He was well aware of the torture of Afghan prisoners handed over to Afghan officials after being arrested by Canadian soldiers.

Richard Colvin, a senior diplomat testified in November 2009 before the Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan that he began warning the government about torture in Afghanistan in May, 2006. MacKay admitted that "there were deficiencies in the arrangement of how we transfer detainees".

MacKay had earlier told the House of Commons there wasn't "a single incident" to prove allegations raised by diplomat Richard Colvin in 2006 and 2007.

20. David Cameron should keep his promise and hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty

Recently, the chairman of the Conservative Party, David Cameron, has told voters that his party will not be holding a public referendum on the EU Lisbon Treaty, despite his iron-clad promise in 2007 assuring us that one would be held.

21. Petition for a Public Inquiry into the Release of the Lockerbie Bomber

I, George Lee, am an ex senior police officer who lost colleagues on the frontline fighting Libya’s state sponsored terrorism in the 1980s and 1990s. I am calling for a public inquiry into the release of the Lockerbie Bomber (Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi).

I served with WPC Yvonne Fletcher and was on duty when she was shot dead on 17 April 1984 in St. James’ Square, London during the siege of the Libyan Embassy. I also served with Met officers who were sent to Lockerbie after the bombing to help with body recovery and identification.

Al-Megrahi was convicted of the Lockerbie bombing. That means he should serve his time in prison. If he is innocent, as some have claimed, he should go through the proper appeals process and if successful we must find out who was actually responsible for these murders.

Releasing the Lockerbie Bomber sets an extremely dangerous precedent. The world might well believe that if sufficient pressure is applied, and the price is right, terrorists can walk free from British prisons.

The British government has turned its back on the victims of the Lockerbie bombing. Yvonne Fletcher’s killers, who are thought to have fled to Libya, have never been brought to justice.

Join me by signing my petition to call for a public inquiry to decide whether justice has been served by this government in our name. We need to know the truth, because the moral reputation of the nation is at stake. Britain cannot allow itself to be seen as a nation that will release convicted international terrorists if the price is right. That would only encourage more international terrorism on British soil and undermine the very reason British soldiers are being asked to risk their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

George Lee (Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Holborn & St. Pancras)

23. Governor Mike Huckabee for US Senate 2010

It's election year 2010:

After two years of a 60-seat supermajority in the US Senate, Congressional Democrats under President Obama have moved virtually unchecked to force their radical agenda on the American people. The GOP is in disarray and hope seems lost.

In Arkansas, Senator Blanche Lincoln (D) is up for re-election to the US Senate. Most pundits consider this race a done deal, but there’s a black horse. A man who has a proven track record of victory against all odds in state that’s dominated by the Democrats. A man who would snatch a Senate seat from the Democrats “safe” column and bring this great country one step closer to reclaiming individual liberty, fiscal responsibility, traditional values, and small government.

Governor Mike Huckabee is just the man this country needs to save the Senate from another 60-seat liberal supermajority. Join us!

24. Support The Patriotic Movment

OTTAWA, June 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada's 300,000 forestry workers and their families are facing the most severe crisis since the Great Depression. The leaders flying the green CEP flag were Dave Coles, President of CEP, and Gaétan Ménard, Secretary Treasurer of CEP, along with VPs Bob Huget, Ervan Cronk, and Jim Britton. The Forestry Five met with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty, Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue, and six Parliamentary staffers.

30. Ban Conservative Marriage

Marriage is a sacred gift, sanctioned by God Himself. As such, marriage must be held in the highest regard, kept safe from those who would sully the institution.

According the the National Center for Policy Analysis, "no region of the United States has a higher divorce rate than the Bible Belt. Nearly half of all marriages break up, but the divorce rates in these southern states are roughly 50 percent above the national average."

According to George Barna Research Group, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate among all 50 states, a reliably progressive state.

9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are in the Northeast states.

The Associated Press, using data supplied by the US Census Bureau, found that the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt. The AP report stated that "the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average of 4.2 per thousand people."
(Boston Globe, Oct 31, 2004)

By banning marriage for those citizens that describe themselves as conservative, we will drastically stem our nation's divorce rate and thus, protect the sanctity of this most holy of covenants.
