1. Stop the Alberta to Texas Pipeline
Stephen Harper wants President Obama to agree to having a pipeline be build from Alberta to Texas.
This pipeline threatens the environment and will make Global Warming worse than it already is.
2. Ensure a Fair Trial for Zeng Hanlin!
Zeng Hanlin is the former chairman of Guangdong Flying Dragon Group.
In Oct 1997, Guangdong Flying Dragon Group acquired 40% equity shares in Chengdu Lianyi Industrial Stock Ltd (a listed company) for a value of $68 million yuan, and in the meantime also injecting its high quality Flying Dragon High-speed Passenger shares into the listed company owned by Chengdu Lianyi Group.
End of 1999, due to the delayed payment to Chengdu Lianyi Group's for the acquisition, a simple civil dispute was transformed into a Contract Fraud case by the Chengdu police, placed Zeng Hanlin under criminal investigation, issued arrest warrant against him in just 1 week and followed by freezing of all his assets. In desperation, he borrowed HKD80,000 from a friend in Hong Kong and fled to Canada.
Since then, he was proclaimed by China mainland as "Major Economic Crimes Most Wanted" and one of China Police "Top 10 Fraud Suspects", his reputation discredited, condemned by the world and suffered reviled.
17 Feb 2011, Zeng Hanlin was repatriated, the 1st person to be forcedly repatriated by Canadian government back to China.
17 Nov 2011, given the attention by the social communities and foreign affairs department, Chengdu Intermediate People's Court started the case hearing secretly. During the trial, all outside contact was rejected; family members were being refused contact with any case information. In addition to the allowed 2 family members in the court, the rest present at the hearing are all local government officials.
During the trial, defendant's counsel defended Zeng Hanlin as Not Guilty.
Prosecutors and Defendant's Counsel hold opposite views on the fact findings made on this crime case.
Although it is a closed-door trial, there is plenty of substantial evidence to prove that Zeng Hanlin is not guilty.
3. Take Shark Fin Soup Off the Menu in BC, Canada
100-150 million sharks are killed every year. In the past 20 years, shark population has decreased by 90%. Scientists predict that within the next 15-20 years, sharks will be completely wiped out.
The are the most important species on Earth, simply because they control levels further down on the food pyramid, as tertiary consumers, and therefore the oxygen levels in the ocean, which controls everything on earth, as it covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface.
Please protect this beautiful creature, and ban the act of shark finning. It starts out locally, but when brought to a global perspective can change the situation dramatically. The slaughter of sharks will soon affect you, so please, take action and sign the petition.
Thank you.
On Oct. 28th, an article was published in newspapers across Canada regarding Senator Nicole Eaton's calling for Canada to forsake the beaver in favour of the polar bear as the country's national symbol.
Please sign our petition below to protect the beaver's right place as Canada's national symbol!
5. Please Help us Save Our Homes!
Carruthers Road Co-operative is a housing Co-operative located in Georgetown, Ontario CANADA, whose Membership is made up of private local business owners, retired persons, immigrant families, single parent families, disabled persons, working families and single working people.
A full one-half of our Co-operative Units are subsidized while the other half pay full market rent. We are guided by the Corporations Act and work within our own Co-operative By-laws.
CMHC (The Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation) is the government body that is responsible for aproving funds and making decisions on upgrades and renovations for our cooperative.
We have been waiting for approved retrofit funding for over a year and to date there has been extremely limited movement from CMHC on this issue. In the meantime, we continue to suffer from existing health and safety issues and added degradation of the building. Without a resolution our community will face a housing crisis!
6. Tell Canada to "Show Up" for Health

From October 19-21, 2011, over 100 Member States of the United Nations will be formally participating in the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Among the delegates will be numerous heads of state and, at last count, over 60 Ministers of Health and other senior Government Ministers from around the world -- including Ministers from other G8 countries.
The Government of Canada is currently refusing to send its Minister of Health and/or other senior Cabinet Ministers to this key global meeting. The absence of Canada's Prime Minister and other federal Ministers from this world conference will send a dangerous message that neither the health of Canadians nor global cooperation to improve health in other countries are priorities for the Government of Canada.
---------------------------------
OCT 21 UPDATE: On October 20, Canada's Minister of Health was asked, in the House of Commons, why she decided not to participate in the global meeting. See video for question and response (English translation of questions provided below).
TRANSLATION OF QUESTION: "Mr. Speaker, this week 118 countries are meeting in Brazil to develop a plan of action on the social determinants of health. However, this government (Canada) is not attending. In Canada, 20% of health care spending is attributable to preventable social causes of illness such as inadequate housing and poverty. The World Health Organization recognizes that social inequities result in inequities in health. The costs are astronomical. Can the Minister of Health explain why she is not at this important international meeting."
7. Amendment to the constitution of the Order of Canada
Before 1981 there were no honorary appointments to the Order of Canada, however the constitution was reviewed and amendments were applied. As currently honorary appointments to the Order of Canada are awarded.
In 1970 the constitution was reviewed, the advisory council considered amending the constitution of the Order of Canada, to allow the appointment of individuals posthumously "in exceptional cases". However the cabinet never did rule, instead the cabinet requested the matter be referred to the working group of Honours, where the request quickly lost momentum and was dropped.
8. Shaw bring us HD Setanta & Gol TV - West Coast !
Shaw does still not carry Setanta or Gol TV in HD.
The only option for Setanta in HD currently is to switch to Bell.
9. Unify the NDP and LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA
We are asking the leadership of the NDP and LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA to seriously consider the unification of the parties for the well being of our country.
10. Give Caribana Back to the Community
In 1967 a group of visionaries from the Caribbean community formed the Caribbean Cultural Committee(CCC) and created, organized and presented the internationally recognized festival CARIBANA™ in Toronto Canada.
This festival has developed into the largest street festival in North America injecting over $400 million into the local economy annually. In 2006 the City of Toronto withheld funding for the festival from the CCC and transferred the funding to the Toronto Mas Bands Association(TMBA) and appointed Joe Halstead as head of a Festival Management Committee(FMC) to oversee the governance and finances of the annual festival.
An agreement was made between the CCC, the TMBA and the FMC for the FMC to manage the festival for one year ending December 31st 2006 under the guise of Joe Mihevic. Since then the FMC nor the City has returned the funding of the festival to the creators and operators for 39 years the CCC now the CARIBANA™ Arts Group(CAG). Negotiations have been going on for over 3 years for an official licencing agreement with the FMC to manage the festival however they would not agree to the CAG's terms.
The FMC has chosen to call the CARIBANA™ festival by a different name and operate it without a licencing agreement after the CAG was forced to take the matter to Ontario Superior Court to protect its trademark and stop unauthorized use of the name CARIBANA™. Appeals have been made to Toronto City Councillors to address the issue yet there has been no response. This community event has been transferred to another organization and has put a halt to 43 years of cultural tradition that the CARIBANA™ festival brings to Toronto. Give Back CARIBANA™ to the Community, it's rightful owners. The CARIBANA™ festival is the cultural, social and economic medium that the Caribbean's in Canada created to express their cultural heritage and affect positive change within the Caribbean community.
Scotiabank became title sponsor of the festival in 2008 through the FMC and is aware of the history and significance of the CARIBANA™ Festival, as it was called Scotiabank CARIBANA™ from 2008-2010. The City of Toronto, the FMC and Scotiabank should have assisted the CARIBANA™ Arts Group in expanding the CARIBANA™ festival. What has happened now is that the parent body of the CARIBANA™ festival has been left out to dry after creating a festival that has injected over $20 billion in economic activity during it's existence to the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario and the Country of Canada.
Give the CARIBANA™ festival back to it's rightful owners.
11. Winnipeg Jets History belongs where it was made
The city of Winnipeg would like its Hockey heritage BACK from Arizona.
THANK YOU TNSE for getting the name right! Now, the possibility has been created to reclaim our history....
There is virtually no current connection between the Jets and the Yotes, except for Doan...and Winnipeggers have already accepted his preference for AZ!
The only notable franchise record that was actually MADE in Glendale, was by a Goalie that Arizona has mostly written off--but that is their choice.
What happens if The Yotes fold/relocate?
To be honest, it doesn't seem like Hockey fans in AZ really want any reminders of Winnipeg's history around anyway?
A compromise might be required to share Teppo's Jersey Retirement.
...or as someone has suggested, it might just be easier to reclaim the Jets history from 1972-1996?
Please make use of the comment area to make any further suggestions!
To put it simply, HISTORY BELONGS WHERE IT WAS MADE!
Thank you!

12. PharmaCare and Consumer Loyalty Points
Beginning in July, a new Pharmacy Services Agreement will come into effect and loyalty programs will be allowed but only on the portion of the prescription paid for by the patient. Details as follows:
On July 7, 2010, the Province of BC concluded an agreement (the Pharmacy Services Agreement) with the BC Pharmacy Association and the Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores. This agreement sets out significant changes to the Pharmacy Participation Agreement that defines the Province’s relationship with pharmacies that submit claims to the PharmaCare program.
In recognition of these changes, the Province developed the PharmaCare Enrolment Agreement to replace existing Pharmacy Participation Agreements.
The Agreement disallows pharmacies from offering inducements to secure prescription orders, or in relation to the provision of a drug, medical supply, or service on the portion of the cost of that drug, supply or service paid for or reimbursed by the Province through PharmaCare.
The Agreement defines “inducement” as: “consideration including, but not limited to, cash, points, loyalty points, coupons, discounts, goods, rewards and similar schemes which can be redeemed for a gift or other benefit.”
Inducements to secure prescription orders were previously prohibited under the former Pharmacy Participation Agreement that defined the Province’s relationship with pharmacies that submit claims to the PharmaCare program. The Pharmacy Participation Agreement stated: “No goods or considerations beyond those approved in negotiations between the Government of British Columbia and the British Columbia Pharmacy Association shall be offered by any party to any other party as an inducement to secure prescription orders.” Notwithstanding this prohibition, pharmacies introduced various forms of inducement programs.
In response to correspondence and complaints from pharmacies and the public, the Minister of Health directed the Pharmaceutical Services Division to take action to ensure pharmacies abide by the terms set out in the Pharmacy Participation Agreement.
Under the terms of the Agreement, effective July 4, 2011, loyalty programs will be restricted to the portion of the prescription cost that is borne by the patient.
The Province’s interest is in the inequity that government funded benefits are being provided to patients and not being made available to other taxpayers, and more specifically the perception that this is occurring (i.e., government paying for a large proportion of a patient’s drug costs and the patient accumulating loyalty points as a result and receiving a free gift).

13. Support Government Expense Transparency
Government Expense Accounts exist to fund MPs' and Senators' travel, hospitality, and other expenses directly related with their work. It's funded by Taxes and therefore should be spent responsibly, and the money spent should be transparent to the tax payers.
There was already National Public demand for this; on May 14th, 2010, the Auditor General Sheila Fraser was denied access to the expense account, MPs denied using the expense account beyond its intended purpose, but their defenses brought up more suspicion of irresponsible spending.
All four parties voted against allowing the auditor general access to the accounts. This happened in the wake of a scandal involving British MPs whose expense accounts had revealed irresponsible spending.
Testimonials from Liberal MP Michelle Simson, while she was a guest on the Roy Green Show, reveal that the expense accounts are not being used responsibly; most notable was an NDP MP who charged a parking ticket to their expense account. She has made her expense account spending transparent, and is alone in the crusade for all MPs to do the same, being silenced by her party for it.

15. Prevent Salvia Criminalization in Canada and Create a Sensible Policy for Control
This is an updated petition with the aim of preventing criminilization of the psychoactive plant Salvia Divinorum. You don't have to use Salvia to sign the petition. Everyone who can see the wisdom behind this proposal is invited to sign!!!
The main points behind this proposal are:
-Preservation of freedom of choice/diet
-Preservation of the taxed Salvia Divinorum industry
-Prevention of shift of Salvia Divinorum sales into unregulated, untaxed black market
-A sensible and simple new policy for regulating the plant.
Salvia must not be criminalized just because it offers a psychoactive effect. Outlawing Salvia is a gross restriction of a freedom that has been peacefully preserved. This is about civil liberties. We need to agree on a sensible solution that isn't going to waste money imprisoning Canadians!!
16. Change Mandatory Car Insurance Law
Several Canadian provinces (British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec) provide a public auto insurance system while in the rest of the country insurance is provided privately.
Basic auto insurance is mandatory throughout Canada with each province's government determining which benefits are included as minimum required auto insurance coverage and which benefits are options available for those seeking additional coverage. Accident benefits coverage is mandatory everywhere except for Newfoundland and Labrador.
All provinces in Canada have some form of no-fault insurance available to accident victims. The difference from province to province is the extent to which tort or no-fault is emphasized. Typically, coverage against loss of or damage to the driver's own vehicle is optional.
17. Human Trafficking: Help Raise Awareness and Bring it Before Parliament!!
Human Trafficking is a very profitable industry for those involved. But the people being trafficked are often stripped of their rights and freedoms and become 2nd class citizens to their captors. Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.
Revenue from trafficked persons is estimated to be between 5 to 9 billion US dollars per year. In Canada, the RCMP estimate that 600-800 people are trafficked into Canada annually and that an additional 1,500 to 2,200 people are trafficked through Canada into the United States.
Many of the people being trafficked are either women or children, that are then funneled into other industries such as free labour market and prostitution.
If we can get enough people to sign this we can get this topic raised during parliament. This is all about raising awareness and getting the Canadian Government to do more for this pressing issue.
18. Support International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Funding
Canada has been a partner of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) continuously since the 1960s, regardless of the political party in power, and this includes the current Government. IPPF’s funding agreement with Canada ended on December 31, 2009.
IPPF submitted a proposal to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to renew its contract for funding in June 2009. To-date, IPPF has yet to receive an indication of whether its funding agreement will be renewed.
19. Decide the Use of Fluoride in the City of Red Deer via Plebiscite during the 2013 Election
The fluoridation of water in the City of Red Deer should be decided via plebiscite during the 2013 election to let the citizens decide the issue in a democratic process and in the process, do so at least cost.
Currently, there is another petition (Removal of Fluoride from the municipality of Red Deer) with the petition statement: “We, the Citizens, call on to the City of Red Deer to stop adding Fluoride to our municipal water supply”. That petition is available at:
http://www.gopetition.com/petition/44571.html
This petition is for the people to speak directly about fluoridation of water.
Speaking with a couple of the current City Councilors about the topic, fluoridation in municipal water is a divisive issue and a reasonable approach to such an issue is to have it decided directly by the people – not by special interest groups, not by special interest Councilors, not by corporations or by persons with vested interests.
Municipal water has undergone a fluoridation process for many, many years and taking time to better understand the process and the concerns. It is not a detrimental do or die situation. We can, at low cost, decide the issue via plebiscite during the 2013 Municipal Election.
In the meantime, speak with your Dentist, Doctor, Hygienist, call the University of Alberta Dental School, and research the topic via the Internet to be prepared with your YES/NO response come 2013.

20. Rare Disorders Support from Canadian Political Parties
Rare disorders affect about 1 in 12 persons, or 2.7 million Canadians. These people are Canada’s most vulnerable citizens and need your support. We are requesting that the political parties of Canada answer the following three questions on rare diseases in Canada.
Your name will be sent along with this petition to the political parties of Canada.
21. Not Voting Conservative on May 2nd 2011
For the sake of preserving the integrity of our parliamentary democracy, we conservatives will not be voting for any candidate of the Conservative Party of Canada on May 2nd 2011. As Canadian voters we believe the following...
22. Removal of Fluoride from the municipality of Red Deer
People should have the right to choose whether or not to be exposed to fluoride. Unfortunately many of us were never given that choice. Today it is almost impossible to escape fluoride. It is in the fountain pop at the drive thru, at your local coffee shop, bottled and draft beer, you get the idea. At home we cook, shower and bath in it, its ridiculous!
Now the thing you might find interesting is where does the fluoride come from? The fluoride used in our drinking water is an industrial waste product from the aluminum and phosphate fertilizer industry. It is an unprocessed contaminated waste with a number of toxins, particularly arsenic. This type of fluoride has never Been Tested for safety and effectiveness. However it has been very effective as rat poison and cockroach powder.
So why do we put this in our water? The answer is simple, money. But not money for us, or our community, money for the corporations. By promoting it as a some kind of dental miracle they are able to eliminate their waste and make a profit at the same time. But does it benefit our teeth? New evidence suggests that fluoridation is either unnecessary or doesn't work. Cavities have declined at similarly impressive rates throughout the entire western, industrialized world over the past half century where there was no fluoridation.
"Water fluoridation is the single largest case of scientific fraud, promoted by the government, supported by taxpayer dollars, aided and abetted by the ADA and the AMA, in the history of the planet."
- David Kennedy, DDS President International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology
Some Harmful effects of fluoride include.
Diminished IQ'S, hypothyroidism, increase in hip fractures, increase in infertility, cancer, abnormal bone development, skeletal fluorosis, dental fluorosis.
Fluoride is not meant to be swallowed, if you look on your tooth paste it will advise you to contact poison control if accidentally swallowed. Why is it okay to drink it then? It is an accumulated poison, so while you may not see the effects right now, there is a good chance you may experience them later. The choice is clear, remove it from our water, and those who still want fluoridation are still free to do so.
Please research this topic for yourself and find your own truths. Do not take Authority as Truth, but rather Truth as the Authority!!

23. Pass Bill C-393 now and save lives
The acceleration of globalization of the market over the last
three decades, greatly facilitated by the expanding
influence of neoliberalism in international economic politics,
has advanced the internationalization of pharmaceutical
research and has influenced the ways in which it is market,
researched, and developed. In lieu of all the benefits they
bring, the pharmaceutical industry’s biggest companies
face a battle between the goals of corporate wealth and
public health. A small number of corporations have come to
dominate the research agenda and operate in a system
which the relentless pursuit of profit takes priority over
public good. While the majority world suffers because they
are deprived of essential medicines and die of neglected
diseases, people in the minority world still benefit. The
reasons for lack of access are diverse and complex, but in
many cases the high prices of drugs are a barrier to needed
treatments. Prohibitive drug prices are often the result of
strong intellectual property protection (‘t Hoen, 2002). The
devastating consequences of implementing patents on
pharmaceuticals and the influence of the market on
prioritizing research and development has led to a
perpetuation of global inequality.
Thousands die of preventable or neglected diseases like
malaria, HIV or tuberculosis every day (Albright et al.
2005). The reason why not enough attention is called to
the matter is because the people who are dying are too
poor to command it. If the same situation was found in
developed countries it would most likely be lead news every
day and they would be devoting serious resources to
finding a cure as fast as possible. As it remains, just 10%
of the world’s research and development on health is
targeted on diseases affecting 90% of the world’s people
and sadly, of more than a thousand new medicines
developed over the last 25 years, just 1% were specifically
for diseases of tropical countries (Albright et al. 2005).
Similarly, it is Western Europe, North America, and Japan
who make up 80% of the world’s pharmaceutical market
where as Africa is 1% (Robinson, 2001). The people who
need the most drugs are the people with the least access
to them. Therefore, they go without. Little money is to be
made in the developing countries that suffer from disease
pandemics. Therefore, they get neglected.
It is clear that the current state of modern medicine and
the pharmaceutical industry is not well. It needs an
accurate diagnosis and appropriate course of treatment.
The remedy to reversing the effects of the symptoms can
be achieved; it will be a challenge but it must not be
ignored.
24. Retire Jennifer Botterill's Number 17 from Canadian Women's Ice Hockey
“Throughout her career with Canada’s National Women’s Team, Jennifer Botterill has been a role model for young girls playing hockey across the country, and I am sure she will continue to do so even in retirement,” said Bob Nicholson, president and CEO of Hockey Canada.

It will cost a lot of money to rebuild the shelter and I am asking all friends of Eva's Phoenix if they are willing to offer support by emailing the mayor and city officials as well as coming to the Government Management committee meeting on Wed November 9th at 930am. You can simply show up to offer support or you can sign up to speak and depute by emailing your name and address to gmc@toronto.ca.
This issue will then go to council in the THIRD WEEK OF NOVEMBER. Stopping the relocation is not an option but working together to make sure we are provided with a suitable location and enough money to rebuild is an option!!!

27. Demand a third party evaluation of the penny from Parliament
http://www.creditcardscanada.ca/news/2011-02-15-penny-brief
Over the past several years, the rising cost of production of the superannuated penny has come to the public's attention. Various evaluations of the penny's production costs have been done, some higher than the Government's assessment of 1.5c. Several factors are involved in the production cost of the penny:
- Producing the one-cent coins;
- Storing them;
- Transporting them;
- Going to a financial institution to obtain, roll and deposit them
This petition is to ask for a third party evaluation of these costs to ensure the fair treatment of the penny's demise and account for funds otherwise not accounted for.
28. The Protection of MMAR Exemptees From Unjust Prosecution by Local Authorities
Medical Cannabis exemptees continue to be prosecuted under law despite being in compliance with both Section 4 of the CDSA and Section 11 of the Medical Marijuana Access Regulations(SOR-2001-227).
Health Canada is currently quoted at 8-10 weeks for processing of applications. This leaves those who require medical cannabis vulnerable to violations to our inalienable rights guaranteed in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
29. To remove fluoride from the water supply of Greater City of Sudbury, Ontario
Please sign this petition if you oppose the use of fluoride in the water supply of Greater Sudbury.
30. Stop The Negative Political Ads In Canada
Canadians demand responsibly and integrity from their politicians. The number of negative, misleading and unsubstantiated political attack ads flooding the media is unacceptable.
Elevate the civility of our democratic system by letting our politicians know where we stand.
