Petition Tag - blue22 weston community coalition
In 2004, the government announced it was putting a high-speed, private, diesel rail line through Weston, to carry business travelers from Pearson to Union Station and back. It was dubbed `BLUE 22` by the private owners.
It would operate at least 140 times per day, 365 days per year, and would operate at high speed through Weston. It would require closing some or all of the streets which cross tracks in Weston. It would cost at least $20 each way to use, with no stops. Most of the infrastructure cost would be publicly funded, but the train would be private.
The plan is currently stuck in an environmental assessment, which was to study alternatives. We have been waiting for a decision by the Minister of Environment for over two years. It is widely anticipated that GO will switch the assessment to one of the new 6 month processes, which will not study alternatives and does not need to deal with the economic harm to Weston.
