1. Stop Mistreatment of bears at Los Angeles County Fair 
The Los Angeles County Fair is hosting a traveling bear act called Welde's Big Bear show. Welde’s act is cruel and unacceptable. Many organizations have campaigned against this outfit for many years.
Bears will only perform frightening tricks, such as riding scooters or balancing on a ball, through physical punishment, fear, and intimidation. Being kept in tiny enclosures causes most bears to go insane. Captive bears spend much of the day pacing, walking in tight circles, swaying or rolling their heads, and showing other signs of psychological distress. Using these bears in a tawdry sideshow is cruel and doesn’t showcase any of their natural behavior or intelligence.
Welde admits that he has hand-raised most of his bears from infancy. This means that the babies were forcibly removed from their mothers within days of birth. Bears have strong maternal instincts, and premature separation is psychologically cruel to both the infants and their mothers. It also deprives the babies of the maternal care needed for normal physical and mental development.
Animal exhibitors touring the fair circuit follow a tight schedule. The logistics of fulfilling multiple contracts does not allow for downtime to let animals rest or exercise or to attend to sick or injured animals. It’s impossible to know how many animals suffer and die en route from fair to fair, because the caravans are constantly on the move, and for the most part, no one is watching. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees traveling animal shows, but with fewer than 100 inspectors covering the country, it’s virtually impossible to regularly monitor these exhibitors. Innumerable small-town venues lack a veterinarian with expertise in exotic animals, and animals who are ill or injured may go untreated. Many animals are inexpensive to procure, making it cheaper to replace them than to pay for veterinary care or lose time attending to a sick animal.
We will sending this petition to the L.A. County Fair Association as well as the 30 corporate sponsors represented at the fair. We hope to gather at least 10,000 signatures.
In a state that has a bear on our state flag and is our state animal, how can we let this cruelty happen at the Los Angeles County Fair? Please help by signing this petition and sharing with as many people as possible.
The popularity of shark week only continues to rise through the years. There is no doubt in my mind that a bear week would do just as well. The noble bear deserves a week, why should sharks be the only animal with a whole week?
I'd like to see some bear justice.
3. NFL Should have the team with the best record host the Superbowl
The NBA and The NHL have their deciding games hosted by the team with the best record. Baseball has game #7 of the World Series hosted by the league which wins the All Star game.
Unfortunately the NFL has the Superbowl at a neutral site stadium. We the undersigned believe the Conference Champion with best won-loss record in the regular season, should host the Superbowl in front of their fans.
If that means the Superbowl has to be played in a blizzard in Green Bay, Buffalo or New England so be it.
'Miracle', an escaped Asiatic bear is in danger of being returned to the brutal bile farm from which she came-for those who do not know what a bear bile farm is, it's a place where bears are slaughtered for their gallbladders and kept in tiny 'crush' cages, often milked of bile live and without pain killing medication.
Korea is one of 3 countries to allow this practice to continue. Show your support to ensure that Miracle is returned to the wild or a safe environment. Ultimately, we hope to end this barbaric and unregulated trade in Korea, fueled by ignorance.

The Chicago Bears are among the few franchises that do not currently have cheerleaders. This has not always been the case. From 1977 to 1985 the official cheerleaders for the Chicago Bears were the Honey Bears. They cheered at all Bears home games and performed at halftime.
Papa Bear Halas was actually the one that came up with the "dancing girl", as he called them, and said that the Honey Bears would be around as long as he was alive. After his death in 1983 the McCaskey family decided to end their relationship with the Honey Bears, declining to renew their contract following the Bears' Superbowl XX Championship.
Isn't it time that one of the leagues original franchises have cheerleaders again, and return to glory? Its the way Papa Bear would have wanted.
6. Reduce Government Spending and Public Debt
The Outstanding Public Debt as of 15 Sep 2008 at 11:02:02 PM GMT is: $9,689,193,735,41844 (yes that is not a type-o. The estimated population of the United States is 304,734,474
so each citizen's share of this debt is $31,795.53.
The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $1.93 billion per day since September 28, 2007!
Obviously the war is a big contributor to these numbers, however it is not the complete problem. This has been an ongoing problem for decades, because we as US citizens did not bother to get involved. But what does this mean for our futures, our childrens and our childrens childrens futures? Our currency value is the lowest it has ever been and countries do not want to loan us any more money. This money will have to be repaid, and the interest alone is overwhelming.
We can not afford to have a negitive balance any more! No matter what it takes, we have to stop borrowing money. Also as US citizens and taxpayers we should be outraged that we are funding government field trips around the world, congressmen who stay at $5000 a night hotels and play golf in Paris at our expense, government funded 'secret' projects, paying $800 for a hammer, all this nonsense which comes out of our pockets and increases our national debt.
Another problem is that other countries like Japan are buying up US real estate at alarming rates and soon very little of the US will be owned by the US.
Even though it is illegal to capture bears in both India and Pakistan, more than 1,600 sloth bears are being forced to dance by madaris, the people who capture and keep the bears.
For years sloth bear cubs in India have been poached and tortured through brutal training methods to become Dancing Bears, forced to perform for tourists. At less than 4 weeks of age, the cub is stolen from its mother who is often killed while trying to protect her cubs. Sold to traders and middlemen at underground markets, trauma, malnutrition and shock accounts for a mortality rate of more than 50%.
The surviving bear cubs are sold to Kalanders who will teach them to dance.
At the tender age of 4 months, the cubs canine teeth are knocked out. A red hot iron needle pierces its muzzle, and a coarse rope is pulled through. The wound is never allowed to heal, and the cub will live in fear, hunger and pain, tied to a stake for the rest of its life.
Many cubs die before the training begins because of the stress of capture, the terrible transportation conditions, starvation, dehydration, and rough handling. Although bears used in these acts would live up to 30 years in the wild, they rarely live more than eight years in captivity.

8. Protect our Polar Bears Under the Endangered Species Act
Arctic sea-ice is melting at an alarming rate due to global warming. One of the primary animals affected is the polar bear whom is entirely dependent on the Arctic sea-ice. Drownings, once rare, have begun to occur at an alarming rate because of the far distances the bears must swim between substantially thick enough sections of sea-ice. Some scientists have even predicted ice-free summers by the year 2040.
Because of the drastic melt, scientists are seeing thinner bears, lower female reproductive rates and reduced juvenile survival. Of particular importance to this problem, is the recent increase by 28 percent on polar bear quotas in Nunavut. Instead of looking at scientific numbers of bears present within the province, the government of Nunavut chose to make this decision based on Inuit Qaujimatjatuqangit, or traditional knowledge.
Additionally, a significant number of polar bear hunt tags are being sold to American hunters that simply want the experience of bringing home a trophy kill: Canada being the only country where this practice is still legal.
Therefore, we as citizens of the world need to protect the polar bear from extinction, by fighting to have the polar bear added to the Endangered Species Act.

Polar bears really need our help: according to government studies in recent months, more and more are starving to death, and more and more of their babies are dying before reaching adulthood. In fact, of polar bears studied between 1990 and last spring, only 25 cubs per 100 females survived. That's less than half the survival rate of polar bear cubs studied from 1967 to 1989!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is requesting public comments regarding the listing of polar bears as a "Threatened" species. In just 5 minutes, you can send in your public comment - just sign this petition.
10. Stop the NJ Black Bear Hunt
Commissioner Campbell is deciding whether or not to allow a bear hunt again in NJ.
The last bear hunt was in 2004 when hunters killed 328 bears and it was the first in 30 years. It solved nothing! We need a non-lethal way of managing NJ's bear population. Perhaps sterilization and a bear preserve. Bears inhabit all of NJ's counties and are more of a nusiance then danger. People make them dangerous by feeding them and not properly disposing of their garbage.
There is no need to hunt our bears again. There are approximately less than 3000 bears. Our small state is over developed, over crowded, 1164 people per square mile that'smore than Japan and India,which are only in the range of 900 or less.
It's time people realize that the bears are not in their neighborhood, that in fact, people have invaded the bear's habitat.

12. Save The Bears in British Columbia
The problem in British Columbia is that it is illegal to chase bears with dogs because it is considered harassment of wildlife. But it is okay to shoot bears? It's cheaper but in the end will it really be?
FACT: on average, 1000 bears lose their lives in BC each year for being "problem bears".
FACT: bears are intelligent creatures, and the Karelian Bear Dog program has been used successfully to teach bears to stay away from potential "problem" areas.
FACT: the BC Government has no intention of making any amendments to the Wildlife Act until 2006. In the meantime, bears continue to die needlessly.

The North Sydney Bears were one of the first Rugby League clubs founded back in 1908. www.bears1908.com would like to forward this petition to the NRL stating that the Bears should be re-instated as the Central Coast Bears based at Central Coast Stadium with a few matches at North Sydney Oval each year.
This will heal the last wound of the SuperLeague war as well as keep some tradition in the game.

The North Sydney Bears are one of Australia's oldest Rugby League clubs. Established in 1908 the Bears were a foundation club of Australia's premier Rugby League competition. The Bears have a proud history and a strong and committed supporter base. In 1999 the Bears were inexplicabley booted out of the NRL and forced to merge with neighbours the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles to become the Northern Eagles. The joint venture was dominated by Manly and Bears fans lost patience with the new club. The joint venture eventually fell over at the end of the 2002 season, leaving the Bears waiting on the outside. Since the collapse of the Northern Eagles, the North Sydney Bears Rugby League Football Club and Mr John Singleton have been plotting for the Return of the Bears on the NSW Central Coast. The Bears proposed to move to the Central Coast before there collapse in 1999. The Bears have had an association with the area for many years and numerous Central Coast juniors have worn the famous Red and Black.
The Bears bid will be known as the Central Coast Bears and will wear the Red and Black of the North Sydney Club. They will retain the famous history and will have "foundation club" appear on their logo.
If the NRL has any sense, the Bears will be to 16th team admitted to the NRL for the 2007 season!
15. Bring Back Care Bears & My Little Pony
I am asking everyone who agrees with what i am about to say to sign this petition. Here it goes... I think the Care Bears and My Little Pony should be put back on air. I belive that there is not enough good children cartoons out there that teach little children the difference between right and wrong.
These are two really amazing programs that do that, that teach child the important stuff in life. Like family, friends, love, and friendship.

17. Stop Bear Dancing And Animal Tesing
This petiton will hopefully stop cruelty to animals such as animal testing and bear dancing and animal abuse.
Ever had to sit in the same spot for days on end? Well bears have, they are chained up with no food, no water and are made to dance for entertainment. It needs to be stopped. Please sign the petition as this does really needs to stop. Also this petition will be stopping animal testing which is sick and horrific.
Kermode bears are black bears with a genetic distinction that makes them white. There are less than 400 left in the world and they only live in BC's coastal rainforest. Logging companies are planning to cut down large amounts of the trees in this forest, leaving the Kermode bear's habitat diminished, and will therefore destruct the population of this rare treasure. Please sign this petition to save these bears from extinction because they're losing their homes so that we can have new IKEA furniture.
19. STOP The Dancing Bears of India!
One of the most horrible forms of animal torture are the dancing bears of India. These native Sloth bear cubs are captured from their homes in the wild, their mothers killed.
Every captured cub must undergo the painful ordeal of having its sensitive muzzle pierced so that it can be controlled. It is held down without anaesthetic while a crude iron needle is heated in a coal fire and plunged in with a group of men holding the squealing cub tight. The tug of this rope, along with an intense fear of the strike of a heavy stick, motivates the bear to lift its legs in turn and 'dance'.
Before it is a year old, the bear's incisors and canine teeth will be wrenched out and sold as lucky charms. The toothless bear is unable to eat its natural diet, and this often leads to terminal intestinal disorders.
Every year, over 100 bear cubs are taken from the wild and sold or traded at markets to gypsies. Many of the cubs do not even survive the journey back to the village because of dehydration or traumatic ordeal. Despite the fact that there is a law against the capture and trade of bears in India, it is rarely enforced. This cruel fate happens to an estimated 1,200 of these adorable bear cubs each year. The poor animals live short lives of pain, misery, and premature death.
20. Stop Summertime Hunting in Minnesota
The Bear Interest Group is working for an Ethical balance between Humans, Bears, and the Environment. This petition is to The Honorable Governor Jesse Ventura, Minnesota State Senators and House Representatives.

It is high time that Minnesota initiates No Hunting during our Peak Tourism Season, to keep our summer time free from worry !
Summer is vacation time in Minnesota with Millions of tourists, 850,000 students out of school, and thousands of families visiting summer cabins.
Many people feel uncomfortable in the forest alongside hunters. Too many people have been mistaken for game, or hit by stray bullets. See our hunting accident report at www.BearInterestGroup.com.
In the year 2000, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) moved Bear Season Opener from September 1st to August 22nd. Hunting is increasing in summer and is particularly dangerous because leafy vegetation obscures visibility but does not stop bullets. Tourists need to be warned that over 20,000 bear hunters, some of them novices as young as twelve, will be sitting in the woods wearing camouflage, obscured by leaves, and carrying high-powered rifles. No one is required to wear orange.
Unsuspecting tourists may indeed be wearing black or brown.
Bullets can travel hundreds of yards through leaves and miles through the air.
Currently, hunting in Minnesota is conducted all 12 months of the year. During the summer, the animals being hunted are crow, fox and raccoon. Now add bear. These animals could easily be harvested with better pelts, during the other nine months of the year.
Our Bill will help all animals that need quiet summers to raise their young. When gun shots ring through the air, animals go on the run ! They are deprived of sufficient food and are denied the opportunity to teach their young how to survive.
We support hunting in the fall after the Labor Day weekend, but during the warm months we support safety for the millions of tourists and residents who want to enjoy Minnesota's vacationland without worry.
We, at the Bear Interest Group (BIG), have met with the DNR four times, to try to understand their position and learned that the DNR has no plan to mitigate the danger. They have not mentioned any plans to put up signs to warn tourists that hunters are in the woods during this time, and they are not requiring anyone to wear blaze orange.
Most tourists and residents are unaware that bear season opens this early.
This change also effects the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Yes, bear hunting is allowed in the BWCAW.
This change in the hunting season enables hunters to Shoot Big Game in the BWCAW with Shot Guns, Rifles and Pistols starting August 23rd and for the following 7 weeks of the Bear Season.
Boat Motors' are NOT allowed, but Guns are !!
You need to be informed of this significant change in the Hunting Season dates. Once you know, then it becomes your choice to be outdoors during the hunting seasons !
BIG has spent two years researching the economical, environmental, and safety concerns of allowing hunting during the summer and we are finding strong support among the public and the legislature for our bill. Nevertheless, the DNR is unwilling to delay the opening of bear hunting to after Labor Day. If the DNR is correct that there is a growing bear population, the reason they stated for issuing the early opener, there are other ways to control bears without threatening public safety.
21. China Bear Rescue - Positive Action
The Animals Asia Foundation in Hong Kong has signed an agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) and the Sichuan Forestry Department (SFD) to free 500 Moon Bears on the worst farms in Sichuan Province and to work together to bring bear
farming to an end.
This "China Bear Rescue" is well underway with 118 Moon Bears now in the care of Animals Asia at their rescue centre in Chengdu, China.
The facts on bear farming: The official number of farmed bears in China is 6,992 (less now with 118 in the care of AAF). Bear bile is not
an aphrodisiac - it is an efficacious medicine with a 3,000 year history, but one which is totally replaceable with herbs and synthetics. In the market today, there is an oversupply of
bear bile which is why the farmers are looking for new markets, hence the placing of it in ridiculous things like shampoo and "Bear Bile Soda"!!!! Some bears have been in these terrible cages for up to 22 years. Bear farming
also exists in Vietnam and Korea.
The CWCA and SFA are doing the right thing and paving the way towards the end of bear farming. Money raised from advertising on this petition will go to help the Animals Asia Foundation fund and build the sanctuary for 500 rescued beautiful Moon Bears - a first major step in bringing bear farming to an end
forever.
