1. Minimum two years for animal cruelty, no parol

All states nationwide have varying degrees of punishment for animal abusers.

Seeing as how this crime is so heinous in nature, there should be a nationwide MINIMUM of two years in prison with NO parole for anyone who abuses animals.

2. Put a Stop to Bakers Hill Puppy Mill in Western Australia

Every Year we see a huge waste of life with the euthenising of thousands of companion animals. Our Shelters and Pounds are overflowing with unwanted or abused animals and all at the tax payers expense. Does it not make sense then to put an end to Puppy Mils that send out a constant flow of dogs and cats into society only to add more to the already horrific number of animals that are disposed of on a daily basis.

Not only are they adding to this already huge number, it is a documented fact that animals from Puppy Mills come with a high risk of health and behavioural issues.
As voters we have the power to put an end to the farming of our companion animals by letting our government know we will not remain silent in regards to this cruel and unnecessary industry. We will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

3. Change the American Kennel Club

I was shocked to discover that the AKC discriminate against mixed breeds by not allowing them into their classes or competitions. Mixed breeds are hardier because they are less prone to genetic conditions.

As well as this, I disagree with the way that the AKC promotes puppy mills by registering puppie that have been bred on these filthy, cramped places where female dogs are bred to exhaustion and then either killed or dumped at animal shelters.

Despite the cruelties behind this support, the AKC are planning on allowing hounds to hunt raccoons. Yes, the hounds do need to fulfil their urge to hunt, but this can be fulfilled by laying artificial scents.

As well as this, the AKC is allowing the over-breeding of dogs, which can result in pugs with such short snouts that they cannot breathe properly.

4. Ban Rodeos in Victoria

No doubt many of you have seen the recent tv advertisements promoting the 7th Annual International Rodeo that will be held here in Melbourne. I was so shocked to see this abhorrent 'sport' still finds support within out community.

While I doubt we can prevent this particular event from going ahead, we can raise the profile of this issue and call for a ban on events like this in the future, as has been done in the ACT, Britain and parts of Europe and (surprise?) the USA.

Put simply, this 'sport' relies on the use of pain to satisfy it's audience. In this day and age, we know better. Were rodeos not to exist, hundreds of animals would live without being forced to go through this distressing, painful experience, while it's supporters would simply find some other hobby to consume their time.

To me, the argument is a simple one: the pleasure people may take in this 'sport' is not of greater value than the welfare of the animals that are subjected to its inherent cruelty.

I urge you to take action against these disgraceful events, and show that they are not welcome here in the future.

THE FACTS
Bull Riding:
- Straps are placed around the bulls' bodies and press on their genitals. This, as it would for any one of us, causes pain and makes the bulls buck.
- In addition, electric prods are used as a bull leaves the gate in order to make it buck more wildly.

Calf/Steer Roping (copied from animalsaustralia.org/issues/rodeos):

"Contestants on horseback must rope a calf (usually within 60 seconds), dismount and throw the calf, then any three of its hooves must be tied together and held for five seconds.

Injuries caused by the force of lassoing and jerking to a halt, then being thrown, include tearing or stretching of ligaments, disc rupture, internal haemorrhaging to the thymus gland and trachea and subcutaneous tissue damage.

Calves can suffer broken legs, even broken necks, and research has shown that even though they get to their feet and leave the arena apparently unharmed, calves can still be suffering from internal haemorrhaging which is not visible without an autopsy. These young animals with soft bones and still developing bodies, should never be subjected to such harsh treatment.

Steers are usually required to be roped within 90 seconds. Injuries include bruising, broken limbs and horns, as well as stress caused by brutal handling. Injuries in this event can cause an animal to be destroyed (out of sight of the crowd)."

5. His name should be Sentry

The wolf has been persecuted for years and years. This is the grandfather of our dogs. Where do people think the dogs got their loyalty to family from? The wolf mates for life. There is the Alpha male and female.

They do the hunting, while aunts and uncles watch the young. They are very family oriented. Now, any livestock killed is blamed on the wolf by irate farmers.

6. Call for Harsher Animal Abuse Penalties in Newfoundland and Labrador

In cases of animal cruelty/neglect, the current provincial animal protection act in Newfoundland and Labrador imposes a fine no less than $50 and no more than $200 for first and second offences.

In third or subsequent offences, a fine can be issued to a maximum of $500. Compared to other provinces across the country this legislation is weak at best.

Stories of cases of animal abuse continue to circulate across the province attracting media attention and causing public outrage from animal lovers and rescue organizations witihin the province and across the maritimes.

It is time for government to take notice and revise the provinical animal protection act so it is at least on par with similar legislations across the country. For instance, in Alberta, fines can reach up to $20,000. In Ontario, up to $60,000 and in BC a fine can be issued for $5000 for a first offense and $10,000 for a second offence.

With the influx of cases of animal cruelty occurring within our province and specifically in Northern Labrador, attention must be paid! Harsher penalties for this type of offense will set an example to potential offenders and reduce the instances of repeat offenders. A $50 fine for torturing an animal is the same as no law at all!!

Please sign your name in support of this cause.

This is for Mia, a little pup from Northern Labrador who was forced to inhale gas and was inevitably damaged so badly she had to be euthanized.

It is for the puppies who were tossed out in a garbage bag and left for dead. Or the tiny pup found locked in a deep freeze barely alive.

It is for the animals of Dunville Placentia Bay who were abandoned in their home and left to starve to death and it is for every animal that has experienced, neglect, torture, cruelty, and distress at the hands of someone who should no better.

This petition will be submitted to government along with letters and documents supporting the need for change.

Please make sure your name is counted!

7. Stop pet shops selling animals

Stop pet shops from selling animals in the uk and discourage breeders from breeding animals. There are so many animals that need good homes and T.L.C already in the world, these animals should be our main priority yet people are still selling and buying animals from shops and breeders.

It is disgraceful how all animals are kept in pet shops and it should/needs to be recognised as cruelty.

Please do something to help.

9. Set Anne the circus elephant free!

Anne, 59 years old, is Britain's last circus elephant, the Asian elephant was brought by Bobby Roberts (owner of the travelling circus) parents in the 1950's for approx £3,000 , in those days she was one of many circus elephants, but now most circuses have stopped using animals.

Secret security cameras have filmed Anne being beaten a total of 48 times by her 'carers' who are paid £8,000 a year, she is abused by pitchforks, iron bars and other bits of equipment which are slammed into her so strongly she sometimes loses her footing, she is absolutely defenceless, as she is chained to the spot by her legs and arthritis has taken toll on her aging body.

Bobby Roberts says he will set her free if he finds a suitable sanctuary in England and claims the US is too far. If we get enough signatures to sign this and spread the word, who knows if we can change this stressed elephant's life?

10. Have a Justin Bieber benefit concert for PETA

Many organisations/ brands etc. are cruel to animals ex. some use the animals for cosmetic testing and some support that. PETA is an organization that is against cruel treatment of animals, as suggested by its name (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

PETA protests the rodeo, fur in fashion shows, etc. They also raid animal testing labs and go undercover in slaughterhouses. Their trademark catchphrase is "Animals are not ours to eat / wear / experiment on / be entertained by / abuse in any way."

11. Stop Cruelty In Slaughterhouses

I need 500,000 signatures to get our government to listen. I need you to listen.

Every year 3.5 billion animals are abused then slaughtered at slaughterhouses. Every cow is kept constantly pregnant to produce milk. The cow is gentically manipulated to produce ten times the amount of milk her calf needs. This puts her in unbearable pain. I wish to make genetic manipulation to be made illegal.

I wish to make cutting parts of animals off before they are dead illegal. I wish to create a law that states all slaughterhouses must have CCTV 24/7 and yearly inspections. This is to make slaughterhouses more humane before they are killed.

12. Support Tougher Penalties for Animal Cruelty & Neglect

Wags the Border Collie was starved to death by his negligent owner. The offender received a fine of $432.00. Duffy the horse was found emaciated, dying and beyond help. Duffy’s negligent owner was given a 28 day jail term - suspended. This offence carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in jail or a $24,000 fine.

Magistrates could enforce tougher penalties for animal cruelty offences but choose not to. This petition calls on the Government to act on specifying tougher penalties for those convicted of animal neglect and cruelty offences.

14. A Federal Commissioner for Animal Affairs

To many the appointment of a Commissioner for Animal Affairs may appear to be radical, in much the same way as the abolition of slavery and the recognition of gender equality has at other points in history. There is a common link that exists between the subjects of animal protection and the subjects of these other social justice movements; their legal status as property and the fact that they are all sentient beings.

The time has come for us to shift our perspective on animals and view them as beings capable of feeling pain, rather that just as a source of food, entertainment or research.

The primary role of a Commissioner for Animal Welfare would be:
• to provide independent oversight of the existing federal legal framework,
• to promote the interests of animals as sentient beings,
• to investigate ways in which animals and humans can better coexist,
• to promote and monitor the overall safety, welfare and well-being of animals and to monitor the trends in complaints made on behalf of animals,
• to conduct special inquiries into issues affecting animals,
• to make recommendations to government and non-government agencies on legislation, policies, practices and services affecting animals,
• to promote the provision of information and advice to educate all members of society,
• to conduct, promote and monitor research and training on issues affecting animals,
• to conduct, promote and monitor public awareness activities on issues affecting animals

As a society we have embraced climate change, sustainability and biodiversity, but we must not overlook the importance of looking after the welfare and survival of our fellow beings with which we share the planet. The role of a Commissioner for Animal Welfare is a significant step towards expressing our genuine concern.

16. Maximum Punishment and Lifelong Ban on Animals for Arthur Kent

A jobless thug has been exposed as the man filmed viciously kicking a puppy in a public park.

Arthur Kent, 24, was yesterday interviewed by police and the RSPCA after the appalling video appeared on the internet.

The dog was seen being kicked, dragged up a hill and hoisted up by its neck.

At one stage, it was kicked so hard it was lifted off the ground at Knee Hill Park, Abbey Wood, in South East London. Footage of the incident caused a public outcry.

But Kent, one of five children brought up by single mum Angela Jones on an estate in Bexleyheath, South London, was dismissive of the incident.

When friend Craig Connan called him, he answered: “Battersea Dogs Home.”

Kent, of nearby Welling, is understood to have handed himself in to police after the story was published in the Daily Mirror.

He was released without charge before RSPCA officials took over the case.

The puppy has since been seized from an address in Welling by police officers.

17. Ban transportation of dogs in the back of UTES

I would like to put forward a petition against the transportation of dogs in the back of utility vehicles, as I believe it to be cruel and dangerous for the dog.

Too many times have I seen the remains of a family pet splattered on the highway, and even (in a few instances) hanging from a rope at the back of a ute (in these instances the dog has obviously tried to jump out and the rope has been just that little bit too long).

I believe that dogs SHOULD NOT be transported in the tray of a ute (or other open vehicle) unless they are confined in a secure cage or box, which is secured to the floor of the ute tray.

18. Stop Russian Animal Cruelty

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/russia/7910350/Russian-police-say-no-charges-over-donkey-stunt.html

Russian police have said they will not bring criminal charges against a group of men who tied a donkey to a parachute and towed it by speedboat for more than half an hour.

The tasteless parasailing stunt took place at a beach in southern Russia earlier this month and angered animal rights activists around the world who demanded the men responsible be severely punished.

However, a spokeswoman for the local police force said they had decided not to press criminal charges after an investigation revealed the donkey was actually fine.

"We are not going to bring criminal charges because a vet examined the donkey and concluded it was clinically healthy," said spokeswoman Dina Goncharova.

The men who orchestrated the stunt, ostensibly to attract attention to their parasailing business, could have faced jail sentences of up to two years if found guilty of animal cruelty.

But the fact that the donkey at the centre of the furore escaped physically unscathed meant the case against the men was weak in the eyes of the Russian law which is notoriously lax when it comes to animal cruelty.

The donkey, an eight-year old female called Manya, was "still very friendly" and had not become frightened of humans as a result of her ordeal, according to those now caring for the animal.

The French actress turned animal rights campaigner Brigitte Bardot wrote to Russia's prosecutor general last Friday asking him to get tough with the stunt's organisers. She is likely to be disappointed by the decision not to prosecute. It remains to be seen whether the men may be fined for their prank instead.

19. Improving the welfare of breeding dogs

Dear Friends,

The puppy mill industry in Singapore is currently not well regulated and enforced. Most of the dogs in these dog farms do not receive proper care and are kept in very appalling and inhumane conditions, including being confined in small cages, some too small for them to even turn around. Many of the dogs live amidst their excrement and are severely malnourished and sickly as they are rarely vaccinated and not given adequate nutrition and healthcare.

We wish to protect these dogs from such cruelty and unnecessary suffering by urging the government and relevant authorities to step up and close the gaps in legislation and enforcement. We seek improved legislation and regulation via implementation of clear and enforceable best practices for the industry as well as effective enforcement of these regulations.

We want to urge the authorities to collaborate with existing animal welfare organisations to review current puppy mill regulations. With your support and signatures, we can win the hearts and mind of the authorities to undertake the necessary and critical steps to close the present loopholes and create a cruelty-free and responsible industry.

Please support this petition by signing it.

6. Their food is insufficient.

7. Their life is questionable.

8. Their treatment is cruel and inhumane and only we can stop this. I duly acknowledge that not all calves for veal are treated in this manner, however the method that i am presenting in this petition truly shows something needs to be done.

26. Stop Animal Euthanization

It has been reported that 350 animals, cats and dogs, have been infected with ringworm. According to studies, ringworm is curable. There are many methods to cure ringworm, but may take a several months.

According to the Canadian Press Article
(http://news.ca.msn.com/canada/cp-article.aspx?cp-documentid=24206729) , OSPCA has decided that euthanization is the best solution because it will take several months to cure ringworm and have no time nor money for this treatment. It has been discovered that the outbreak was caused by human error. Protocols for identifying ringworm in the animals were not followed.

OSPCA should find an alternative, for example, raising money for treatment and taking time to treat the animals oppose to terminating them. There are many alternatives, they should find the best one. An animal should not loose their life because of a human error- it was not their fault, it was human error.

28. Stop Puppy Mills: Ban Pet Shops From Selling Animals

A puppy mill or puppy farm is a large dog breeding facility created to mass produce puppies for profit.

Breeding dogs are kept in cages or pens for their entire life with the sole purpose of producing puppies for pet shops, internet sales and overseas markets.

In Australia these farms have anything from 20 to 1000 breeding females who are kept constantly pregnant or lactating in order to keep up with demand. The health, behaviour and temperament problems found in puppies from puppy mills are well documented and for each cute, fluffy litter of puppies seen in a pet shop window their mother is likely to be suffering the fate of a puppy mill dog.

29. Against Equestrian Sport

Currently Nevzorov Haute Ecole Research Centre has the unquestionable evidence of the equestrian sport's cruelty.

We are ready to bring on a highest level a conclusive accusation against equestrianism, races and other horse-torturing activities. Also we think it is legally acceptable to claim moral damage which is caused to children, who's mental health is endangered while participating in "sport activities" which considers the cruel treatment of a living being to be normal. The above is pertinent to the audience which is unsuspicious of the real nature of equestrian sport, races and other human entertainment which include horses.

Equestrian "sport" has nothing to do with a testing of power and ability of a human sportsmen. It is parasitizing on the abilities of another creatures, namely, horse. One of the proofs is that only equestrianism allows men and women participate on equal terms.

Equestrian "sport" can not exist because it is NOT sport at all. A sport discipline tests power and endurance of men, who act VOLUNTARILY, while in equestrian "sport" the one who acts like a sportsman is a horse, which is totally absurd and conflicts with the rules of Olympic Games and de Coubertin's behest. Parasitizing on other being's abilities and prize winning through violent and public coercion of a horse discredits sport and devalues services of real sportsmen who test the limits of their abilities and facilities.

We bear in mind the extent of the problem: we understand that the equestrian industry will use any means possible to defend its financial interests. Also we understand that we can withstand and win the fight only when we close our ranks. We need your aid, the aid of the sane and the intelligent people.

Let us together stop the lies and the rampancy of the legalized cruelty. Let us mark the 21st century with the prohibition of such a shameful sport as equestrianism. Let us exclude "Equestrianism" from the Olympic Games.

You can not ignore the public opinion nowadays. Internet connects people all over the world. Through the efforts of the publicity the use of the wild animals in circuses was banned in the USA. The horse slaughterhouses were also closed there. In Australia the horse races were banned at the Victoria race track. All of these happened because of the unity and bravery of the people who are ready to make a stand against the deadly machine of equestrianism. And this is just the beginning.

30. Danbury, TX Dogs Starved to Death

Danbury, TX Dogs Starved to Death - Chained up or in Kennels and Starving to death - HELP THEM PLEASE.

These dogs are trapped in kennels on a ranch in Pearland, Danbury Texas, just south of Houston, Texas.

A young lady, Mistie Wright in Danbury, TX has been trying to get assistance for these dogs. She has taken the videos which are linked below. She has also taken 78 photos and abundant documentation. She has made numerous pleas to every government agency in this town, with absolutely NO help from any of the authorities whatsoever.

The man that owns this property is Cody Kreft and he works offshore. He left them in the care of Jeff Bingham who has not been seen in over a month. Both of men have given no care, food or water to these dogs and they have been slowly starving in filth, feces and urine with no way out. Every moment they inch closer and closer to a slow and cruel death. Please help these trapped and defenceless dogs, by signing this petition today.

The Chief of Police Vince Hatthorn is directly responsible for nothing being done and these dogs not being rescued thus far. This man needs stripped of his job and as far as I am concerned can be put in a kennel to slowly starve and see how he would like that... perhaps it would create a sense of urgency in his lazy disgusting ass.

Below is the detailed account of the most vile abuse of a public office I have ever heard of.

Right now, there are dogs suffering horribly when there is assistance that should be had for them. May all the public officers of this town be shamed to allow such a barbaric crime to continue, as far as I am concerned for those in public office in this town, whether it be animal control, police department, county attorney, all of these scumbags that are aware of this and have not done one thing to help these dying dogs, they all need stripped of their government salaries permanently.... What an abuse of tax paying dollars of a government office, worse than the actual criminals themselves. Despicable. Bastards.

The dog feces 2" inches thick. Also, there are 3 puppies in the same filth. This dog pictured directly above was so starved he ate the paper plate that had the food on it, it also looks like he shredded something to try and eat in his pen*
