1. Put a Humane force in Las Vegas

Many states have a NSPCA humane force A.K.A animal cops. Las Vegas does not have one. We need one desperately. We need one NOW! The abuse has become so bad that even my next door neighbors are doing it.

It seems left and right animals in Las Vegas are hurt and abused for no reason except for a persons sick fantasies. I'm not asking for money im just asking for help so if you can contact any major officer (mayor, governor, president etc.) please send this to them.

I may be only 15 but this is what I want to do, defend animals of Las Vegas and let them have a good life.

2. Enshrine Animal Rights In Cyprus

animal cruelty

We, the undersigned, call on the Cyprus Government to eliminate Animal Abuse and Cruelty. We also call on the Government to create laws to support Animal Rights in our Country. Animal Police is one of our major demands.

3. Give Bubu, the Andean Bear, the freedom he deserves

For several years, we have been supporting the active conservation of the Andean Bear through the Andean Bear Foundation, and more specifically, the work of Ecuadorian biologist, Armando Castellanos through social media websites such as Facebook, Causes and the website www.andeanbear.org.

Mr. Castellanos has worked with this species since 1995, and has rehabilitated and released to date 14 bears in various regions of Ecuador. His efforts have been broadcast to a wide international audience by the BBC, Animal Planet and Bayerischer Rundfunk. We represent an international audience who have been closely watching Mr. Armando Castellanos’ research and rehabilitation work and are committed to working for the conservation of this magnificent Ecuadorian treasure.

In 2008, Mr. Castellanos successfully released a bear using a Superpuma helicopter generously provided by the Ecuadorian Army.

In November 2011, Mr. Castellanos and his team rescued a female bear cub, now named Suyana, in the province of Carchi; in January of this year, the Ministry of the Environment gave the Andean Bear Foundation custody of a male cub known as Mazharito from Zamora Chinchipe. A few days ago another cub has surfaced that needs to be rescued from Morona Santiago. Unfortunately, the Andean Bear Foundation does not have the infrastructure or resources to help this cub. In order to accept the new cub, Mr. Castellanos must release Bubu, an adult Andean Bear now ready for reintroduction into the wild. The large helicopter is necessary to place the bear in a suitably remote habitat to insure a successful release.

The Minister of the Environment was notified of this urgent matter three weeks ago, but to-date, Mr. Castellanos has not received any reply or comment.

4. Let the Doggies Run - MonRover Park, Monroe Ohio

With the demise of BMX racing at Monroe Crossings park, the fenced area that contained the track is available for use. The city has spent $12,500 for the fencing and is now removing the dirt hills to flatten the 2 acre space.

Several people, including Public Works, have approached us, a local non-profit animal welfare organization, to gauge interest in reusing this for a dog park, MonRover Park, & form a committee.

Some residents of the adjacent subdivision are currently using this fenced area as an unofficial off leash park for their pets. The nearest dog park is Wiggly Field, 12 miles south at VOA in West Chester.

Dog parks are a popular amenity that offer diversity, year round use, low maintenance, and attract profitable animal related events to the city. Portions can be leased to dog training clubs, host agility events & offer room to exercise working animals such as canine officers & therapy dogs.

The most expensive requirement for a dog park is the land & fence - the former BMX track offers both, along with a picnic table & fenced bleacher area. There is also a large paved parking lot, restroom/concession area & state of the art playground equipment & multi acre soccer fields. Basic items that are needed is additional fencing to separate small dogs from the large dogs, a double gated entry, signage, some bench’s & landscape items such as trees.

Funding would be attained via a combination of major sponsorship, corporate & private donations, fundraising & assorted grants. Just last year, Nutro Foods gave away $500,000 for the development of a dog park.

We have held our first committee meeting & have interest from the community.

5. Bring Noah Home (Non Platte City Residents)

You can google "Wayward Wallaby" or "Noah the Wallaby" and you be filled with news sites that give you all the insight into his special situation.

Noah has been part of the Wood family for 4 years, adopted at 10 months out of the pouch. When we moved from Colorado to Missouri, we misunderstood the laws regarding exotics in Missouri. When Noah got out of his pen on Thanksgiving, he was taken to the Zoo till further action.

There is an ordinance against exotics in Platte City. This was not to our knowledge and he was thus taken.
The Board of Alderman is likely to not make any changes to the ordinance.

This is a support petition. We are asking that if you support Noah being a part of the Wood family, to sign.
We are asking the Board of Alderman to consider amending the ordinance to allow for an appeals process to obtain a "conditional use permit" to keep Noah. As written, the law currently allows no flexibility. We understand our mistakes, but he is of absolutely no danger to the community, and we are asking for help in bringing him home.

6. Tell NHMRC to stop funding animal Testing

Please tell the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to stop funding millions of taxpayer's money into animal testing.

Over 10 million animals a year are used as models in medical research, most funded by taxpayer's money.
These animals are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act and are subjected to torturous experimentation which are often inconclusive and unscientific.

Putting aside the cruelty, animals and humans differ genetically, anatomically and metabolically therefore animals are inappropriate models for medical research. 9 out of 10 drugs that work successfully on animals failed on humans.

Please urge NHMRC to stop funding this cruel, expensive and inconclusive practice and invest in alternative methods such as computer modelling, Corrositex, improved statistical design, the Murine Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA), etc.

Thank you.

7. Stop Animal Lab Testing

The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for ensuring products are safe for human consumption before being placed on the market. Thus, the FDA passed the “Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act” to ensure products, such as cosmetics are safe before they are released to the public.

Although this legislation sounds reasonable and reassuring, it has encouraged all companies to test their products on animals in order to have them approved and sold. Companies are using animal testing across the country, and thousands of animals die every year due to inhumane treatment and infections. Animals are abused, cut, tortured, and intentionally infected with diseases and bred to have genetic deformities. This is a cruel and ineffective way for companies to test the toxicity and safety of their products.

How ineffective is animal testing? The FDA reports that 92% of products that pass the animal testing phases FAIL in human clinical trials, and therefore cannot be released to the public. Thus, animals are being abused, tortured, and ultimately killed for no scientific or monetary benefit at all. We are an intelligent, developed society and animal testing is clearly not our only option. Some companies have opted to use donated skin cells and body parts of deceased donors. There are alternatives.

Therefore, I am calling on the FDA to change its legislation regarding regulations on the testing of products to prohibit the use of animals.

8. Take Shark Fin Soup Off the Menu in BC, Canada

100-150 million sharks are killed every year. In the past 20 years, shark population has decreased by 90%. Scientists predict that within the next 15-20 years, sharks will be completely wiped out.

The are the most important species on Earth, simply because they control levels further down on the food pyramid, as tertiary consumers, and therefore the oxygen levels in the ocean, which controls everything on earth, as it covers 2/3 of the Earth's surface.

Please protect this beautiful creature, and ban the act of shark finning. It starts out locally, but when brought to a global perspective can change the situation dramatically. The slaughter of sharks will soon affect you, so please, take action and sign the petition.

Thank you.

9. Harder Punishment For Animal Abusers

Some laws for animal abusers are too soft. Most animal neglect/abuse are only $500 fines or 6 months, but for a dog, that abuse can be a lifetime of hurt and pain.

I think animal abusers should be punished the same way a child abuser would be punished. Animals are defenseless, faithful, loyal, innocent creatures. Who says their life is less than ours? I think animal abusers should have stronger penalties and go on a list so that they are never allowed to have another animal in their possession again.

10. Demand the labeling of palm oil in cosmetic products

The Sumatran orangutan society, have been very successful in campaigning to get palm oil labeled in all products who use it. They have recently won their clear labels, not forests campaign and it is now compulsory for all food products containing palm oil to be labeled in Europe and the UK. However this does not cover all products...cosmetics are not included in this campaign but i believe they should be.

The palm oil industry is responsible for destroying thousands of acres of deforestation in other countries. Currently 300 football fields are destroyed in south east Asia every hour for palm oil. And it's not just the vegetation that is being affected! The animals that rely on the forest (such as orangutans) are affected, many orangutans have no place to go when the forest is destroyed. 20 years ago their were more than 300,000 Bornean orangutans in the wild, now their are less than 45,000 in the wild. Orangutans only give birth once in 6 - 10 years therefore it is hard for them to breed as much as they are dying out due to deforestation.

Please go to http://www.wspa.org.uk/wspaswork/orangutans/ for more information on orangutans.

But worst of all the industry does not even label palm oil! Most palm oil is labeled as vegetable oil, therefore many people are unaware that it is in their shopping products. This is taking away our freedom to know what exactly goes into our cosmetics, it takes away are choice of whether or not to use palm oil! This is wrong, they should label palm oil and deliberately point out if it is palm oil free!

11. Demand palm oil be labeled!

Today palm oil is used in lots of shopping products, some of which includes pears soap, pringles, most peanut butters, clover, ginsters, haribo, Good fellas pizza, warburtons and much more. Unfortunately I wouldn't be mentioning this if it didn't have such an affect on the environment.

13. Demand Dalton Mcguinty meet with Michael Schmidt & end his hunger strike!

"Michael Schmidt is now on the 24th day of his hunger strike for responsible food freedom. He is a farmer who has been relentlessly pursued by Health Canada for tending cows the old fashioned way. He refuses to put his animals on a conveyor belt and won’t allow them to be a cog in a wheel in some God forsaken factory. He won’t even cut their horns off, because it violates their nature to do so.

His farm is a heritage museum, a tribute to traditional, pre-modern foodways. It should be a national treasure. Instead, it is the scene of Canada’s national disgrace. Health bureaucrats, urged on by Canada’s conventional farmers are trying to destroy the farmer and take his farm away. They are bent on denying the people who depend on Michael’s farm. Their goal is to cut off their milk supply.

Michael’s food is produced privately, it does not go into the commercial food system. It is only available to his herd share investors, not the general public. His investors need this milk, often because they are struggling with serious health issues. They seek his milk as a remedy, and because of his meticulous animal husbandry and safety protocols, it is a good one.

Last year a judge vindicated Michael. This year an appeal by the state finds him to be a criminal.

One of the two documentaries made about this man is entitled, Michael Schmidt, Organic Hero or Bioterrorist. His government is treating him like the latter, but I can assure you he is the former. In fact, Michael Schmidt is considered a Hero of Sustainable Agriculture by Hartkeisonline.com.

Now, he is starving himself to wake society from its slumber. He is determined to die trying to get his government to be reasonable. He is asking for a meeting with the Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty.

In a blog post by Michael on the Bovine blog two days ago, there is a chilling sentence:

“I do not think that I can benefit of all this change coming towards us but I certainly can envision a better world for our children.” –Michael Schmidt

It sounds like Michael doesn’t expect to live through this episode!

Please, take a few minutes and make a call, send a fax, or email these Canadian officials. In the kindest way possible, ask for their help for this farmer, who, like Ghandi, is fighting for the rights of all people. We will get more with honey than with vinegar, so please make your request respectful of their office and with humility, for the love of Michael.

Michael’s willingness to sacrifice his life, speaks volumes for the love he carries in his heart for you and me, and our freedoms. Let’s not let him down in his darkest hour." - taken by an excerpt by Kimberly Hartke

Dalton Mcguinty's email form can be found at this address.

14. His name should be Sentry

The wolf has been persecuted for years and years. This is the grandfather of our dogs. Where do people think the dogs got their loyalty to family from? The wolf mates for life. There is the Alpha male and female.

They do the hunting, while aunts and uncles watch the young. They are very family oriented. Now, any livestock killed is blamed on the wolf by irate farmers.

15. Call for Harsher Animal Abuse Penalties in Newfoundland and Labrador

In cases of animal cruelty/neglect, the current provincial animal protection act in Newfoundland and Labrador imposes a fine no less than $50 and no more than $200 for first and second offences.

In third or subsequent offences, a fine can be issued to a maximum of $500. Compared to other provinces across the country this legislation is weak at best.

Stories of cases of animal abuse continue to circulate across the province attracting media attention and causing public outrage from animal lovers and rescue organizations witihin the province and across the maritimes.

It is time for government to take notice and revise the provinical animal protection act so it is at least on par with similar legislations across the country. For instance, in Alberta, fines can reach up to $20,000. In Ontario, up to $60,000 and in BC a fine can be issued for $5000 for a first offense and $10,000 for a second offence.

With the influx of cases of animal cruelty occurring within our province and specifically in Northern Labrador, attention must be paid! Harsher penalties for this type of offense will set an example to potential offenders and reduce the instances of repeat offenders. A $50 fine for torturing an animal is the same as no law at all!!

Please sign your name in support of this cause.

This is for Mia, a little pup from Northern Labrador who was forced to inhale gas and was inevitably damaged so badly she had to be euthanized.

It is for the puppies who were tossed out in a garbage bag and left for dead. Or the tiny pup found locked in a deep freeze barely alive.

It is for the animals of Dunville Placentia Bay who were abandoned in their home and left to starve to death and it is for every animal that has experienced, neglect, torture, cruelty, and distress at the hands of someone who should no better.

This petition will be submitted to government along with letters and documents supporting the need for change.

Please make sure your name is counted!

18. Stop Unnecessary Quarantine For Pets Entering Australia

At present, there is compulsory quarantine for all pets entering Australia, from 1 month to 6 months depending on where the animal is coming from. There are also some countries from which animals must complete 6 months quarantine in another country before being allowed to do some quarantine in Australia.

Apart from the fact that quarantine is exorbitantly expensive it is also considered inhumane in many countries, particularly when pets are coming from countries that do not have rabies or vaccination rules that are equally stringent to Australia.

Europe introduced the PETS program which allows pets from most countries in Europe and a large number or non European countries (including Australia) to move freely around Continental Europe and the UK without any quarantine.

Animals face an extremely long and stressful flight from other countries to Australia and are then expected to stay in a concrete floored barred cell for at least one month rather than experiencing the comfort of being with their families. It is true that families are allowed to visit their pets, but quarantine places are usually in distant locations with their permitted visiting hours usually only during working hours, when presumably pet owners will be at work.

19. Protect Peaceful Animal Rights Advocates And Animal Lovers

One animal rights campaigner did not approve of how animals were being treated at a certain place, so she joined a peaceful protest and within seconds the police arrived. Despite the best efforts of the other campaigners, this woman landed with broken legs and arms and just lies in bed and cries herself to sleep most nights.

All they were doing is peacefully and legally saying no. Isn't it about time that we started targetting the ones that actually ARE extremists and not peaceful campaigners?

21. Make biodegradable plastic bags mandatory

Plastic bags are a heavily consumed product of the non-renewable resource petroleum, when they break down they pollute the sea, the earth, the crops and the animals. Animals can think they are food and choke and die, or have them trapped in their digestive system. It is far from a painless death.

Plastic bags take many years to biodegrade, they are a danger to the health of humans and animals alike. Sign to keep the Canadian environment pristine, beautiful and safe for all life.

We need to get rid of these harmful plastic bags that fill up our precious landscape with landfills. It would make a very significant, positive difference to make biodegradable plastic bags mandatory.

22. Reveal Animal Testing policy on product packaging

Many Australians are against the testing of cosmetic and hygiene products on animals, yet are unaware of which companies do or don't participate in this cruelty.

Companies come and go and change their policies constantly and it is extremely hard for the public to be sure of what exactly they are buying.

This petition demands that corporations clearly state their animal testing ethics on product packaging, so the public may make more informed choices with their purchase.

23. Save HappyPaws Haven, Stop Clarence Valley Council Shutting Us Down

When property was bought, two neighbours on one side, in conjunction with my old neighbour in town tried to stop HappyPaws Haven from operating at the new location before we had even moved in and publicly said in front of 40 people that they would not rest until i had gone.

The council gave permission to operate HappyPaws Haven with 6 dogs but said that I could own as many dogs as I like. 25. Save Maryon Wilson Animal Care Centre

Maryon Wilson Park is on Thorntree Road Charlton, London, situated nearby to Maryon Park. The animal care centre is hugely popular with both locals and visitors to the area. It's an oasis of calm in a bustling area and should be saved for everyone!

Greenwich Council are seeking to offload the responsibility and costs of the animal centre in their budget cuts. Our petition aim is to convince the council that this is a mistake and is totally against the wishes of the local electorate.

The park serves many local schools and people travel from far & wide to visit. It is one of the distinguishing and defining features of the area - it's loss would be far-reaching, detrimental to the area and community.

27. Save Lives: Increase Los Angeles City Limits on Pet Ownership from 3 Cats and 3 Dogs to 5 Cats and 5 Dogs Per Household

We request that the Los Angeles City Council increase the current pet limits per household from 3 cats and 3 dogs to 5 cats and 5 dogs. We believe this will help decrease the number of animals that are euthanized in Los Angeles, which in 2009 included 19,547 cats and dogs.

Raising pet limits will help us save more lives by connecting homeless shelter animals to households who want them. Increasing pet limits will also generate badly needed revenue for Los Angeles Animal Services through registration fees.

Councilmember Bill Rosendahl introduced a motion to the City Council June 5 to increase pet limits, and Councilmember Paul Koretz seconded the motion. Los Angeles Animal Services General Manager Brenda Barnette also strongly supports increasing pet limits from 3 dogs and cats to 5 dogs and cats. As of early December 2010, the motion remains in committee.

Many areas around the country do not have such strict restrictions on household pet ownership. For example, our neighbors in the city of Santa Monica have no limits on either cats or dogs. Riverside County allows nine cats before a kennel permit is required. San Diego County and Santa Barbara County have no cat limits.

For the last 10 years, the City of San Diego has not had a cat limit. The limit on dogs is 6. The Live Save rate for San Diego County Animal Services that covers both the City and the County is 82% for dogs and 54% for cats (Fiscal Year 2008-09 with intake of 48,878). During this same Fiscal Year 2008-09, the Live Save rate for Los Angeles is 73% for dogs and just under 39% for cats.

Councilmen Rosendahl wrote that “The current downturn in the economy has resulted in a higher rate of animal abandonment and has contributed to a 20% increase in the rate of impounds. To exacerbate the problem, over the past several years budget reductions in the Department of Animal Services have reduced the level of service provided to animals in the City’s shelters.”

PLEASE help get the word out! Do it for the animals who are counting on us. We must show the Council members that saying “Yes” to the increased pet limits is the right thing to do and is what the community wants.

28. Keep our pet shop Animal Tracks open

Do do a very stupid rule Animal Tracks are to be evicted from their shop on North Seaton Industrial Estate, Ashington, Northumberland, United Kinkgdom.

Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/home.php?sk=group_116973955031835&ap=1

Animal Tracks is a wonderful business with very friendly and helpful staff and parking is free, plentiful and close to the shop. It is perfect for customers particularly the elderly, infirm and disabled. I myself am still recovering from cancer treatment and have to buy bulky items for my pets. Particularly sand and filter equipment for the turtles (see the picture section of the group), I like to buy in bulk because of cost savings but would not be able to if the parking was not so convenient.

There is also a nice bakery on the estate which means going to the pet shop is a little outing followed by a picnic lunch.

The variety of animals on view at Animal Tracks is amazing and make it a pleasure to visit. If it was stuck on a high street with limited or no parking this would no longer be the case.

I believe from talking to the owners that they received money in grants from Wansbeck Council and Go Wansbeck. What a waste of public money if they are force to move (or close) especially in this economic climate.

Surely all planning consents etc were passed BEFORE any grants were awarded, and if they were given in error then the council should just bit the bullet and learn from experience rather than damage a successful small business.

The rates etc are much higher in the area the council want to move them so to survive Animal Tracks would have to lose staff and even then the move could put them out of business.

This is a very important shop, many a pet store has fallen under economic strain over the years - DO NO LET US LOSE THIS ONE. PLEASE JOIN and SUPPORT US.

Membership lists will be used as a protest to the council.

Many Thanks.

29. We Urge All UK Supermarkets To Insist That Their Meat Production Plants (Slaughterhouses) Install CCTV

WE URGE ALL UK SUPERMARKETS TO INSIST THAT THEIR MEAT PRODUCTION PLANTS (SLAUGHTERHOUSES) INSTALL CCTV, AND TO ASK THAT THEY ONLY BUY MEAT FROM ANIMALS KILLED IN SLAUGHTERHOUSES FITTED WITH CCTV CAMERAS

In January 2009, Animal Aid, a UK charity, started to film secretly inside Britain's slaughterhouses. They gathered footage from seven red meat establishments all of which were randomly selected and found terrible suffering and many breaches of animal welfare laws in six of them. They recorded animals being improperly stunned and going to the knife whilst still conscious.

The film also revealed animals being kicked, slapped, stamped on, and sheep being picked up by their fleeces and ears and thrown roughly around the slaughtering pen.

In April 2010, Animal Aid filmed inside a slaughterhouse in Essex. The film shows scenes of extreme and deliberate suffering. This included the use of electric tongs on pigs’ snouts, tails and in their open mouths.

It's not just ‘mainstream’ slaughterhouses where serious animal welfare failings were found. In October 2009, Animal Aid secretly filmed at an organic Soil Association-approved abattoir that kills pigs and sheep. Conditions there were so bad that the Meat Hygiene Service immediately suspended three workers and began building a case for a prosecution. At this particular slaughterhouse, they filmed pigs being kicked in the face, sheep being picked up and thrown, and the heads of sheep being cut off before the statutory time had elapsed – meaning that in all probability they were still alive.

Animal Aid filmed at another Soil Association-accredited slaughterhouse, In January and February 2010, this time in Dorset. Their footage revealed more abuses and legal breaches. Once again, the MHS was forced to take action.

30. Support Fluffy's Law ( Bill 218 ) In Manitoba

Bill 218 or Fluffy’s Law is meant to provide landlords and their tenants with legislation to guide them in dealing with the often controversial topic of pet ownership in rental properties. There are numerous studies that show that owning a pet has measurable health benefits including increased physical fitness and lower incidents of depression. These benefits are especially pronounced in seniors who are most often tenants and frequently live alone.

The Winnipeg Humane Society has endorsed Bill 218 citing the growing number of pets that are surrendered each year due to a lack of pet-friendly rental properties in Manitoba.

Nearly each and every day our shelter faces the upset of owners turning over their pets due to a no-pet policy. Frankly I find it baffling that landlords are being so shortsighted and hard-headed on this issue. We have learned that in the 11 years Fluffy’s Law has taken effect in Ontario, only 1% of the 800,000 complaints received annually by their rental tribunal are pet related.
