1. P.A.R.C.S.

2. P.A.R.K.S. (Protect The Access To Recreational K-9 Spaces)

PROTECT THE ACCESS TO RECREATIONAL K-9 SPACES

On May 30th, 1997, we purchased a kennel with acquired rights to offer boarding and grooming services to domestic animals. Back then, we had no neighbours.

At the time, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion had provided in their by-law a protection barrier of 528 feet (160 metres) between kennels and neighbouring houses. In 2003, a building permit was issued for a house which is now within that barrier at 428 feet (129 metres).

On August 29th, 2012, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion has registered a request before the Superior Court to ask a judge to order us to dismantle all of our outdoor dog enclosures because by using them as part of our daily activities to let the dogs out, we are contravening to the article 1.6.5.1 of their by-law 1275 which stipulates: "all animals must be kept inside a building that was meant to house them"

By asking us to keep the dogs inside 24 hours a day, the City is forcing us to commit an animal cruelty infraction punishable under the P-42 Act witch was put in place in June 2012 by the M.A.P.A.Q, a higher government entity.

3. Down with Animal Testing

Animal testing is a cruel and barbaric practice that should be banned. Animals do not want to be tortured, locked up, neglected and abused any more than we do, so why should we do it to them?

Myth 1# "Animal testing is vital to save lives".

Animal testing actually kills more people than it saves because of the fact that animals have different bodies and genetic systems from us. Even animals that are very similar to us in terms of DNA, such as pigs and monkeys, are still too different for every result from tests on them to be entirely accurate. For instance, chimpanzees are immune to HIV, Malaria and hepatitis. Aspirin causes birth defects in most lab animals, but it doesn't do this to people. Paracetamol is toxic to cats and grapes and raisins can cause kidney damage in dogs.

In fact, most so-called "medical" experiments that are done on animals are actually done with money in mind, not people. That is one of the main reasons why these misleading experiments are still performed. If a drug is passed as safe due to animal tests, it is then often given to people. If a drug passes as dangerous and unsafe due to animal tests, it is often given to people anyway because even the drug companies often know that animals have different bodies and genetic systems from us. If a person takes it and then gets any really bad side effects, the company cannot be sued because they did do the safety tests.

Myth 2# "Lab animals are always treated kindly and looked after properly".

Although some may well be treated with kindness and cared for properly, many of them are not. In fact, during investigations, animal defenders have filmed horrifying scenes that should disgust us all. Lab animals are often shot at, held against red hot metal plates, have boiling water poured over them, force-fed dangerous chemicals, cut open, gassed, have their brains damaged with severe blows to their heads, starved, locked up and have their skin irritated by various different substances. Lab animals are also sometimes abused outside of the experiments. Laboratory workers have been filmed punching, slapping and shaking animals before.

Myth 3# "Animals do not feel pain, have emotions or help others".

This is probably one of the biggest lies/misunderstandings of the century. Animals definitely DO feel pain, have emotions and help others. Anyone who believes that animals do not feel pain should go and kick a dog and then watch what happens. If animals could not feel pain or fear, how do you think they would survive out in the wild?

Animals definitely do have emotions. When you tell a dog off, they will often cower away because they know that you are angry with them. Anyone who has ever had or even stayed with a cat before will know that cats are definitely more likely to scratch and bite at certain points in time than others. How else can this be explained other than in the fact that they have moods like people do?

Also, time and time again have dogs been known to pine for their owners after they have died. Hachiko carried on going to wait at the train station for his master's return until about ten years after his master had died and Greyfriar's Bobby waited by his master's grave for at least ten years before he himself died, apparently of the same illness that had killed his master.

Dogs have even been known to pine for their people when they have only gone to work or gone out for a little while. Dog behaviourists and experts often call this, separation anxiety, but a lot of it is really just loneliness and boredom. How else do you explain the scenario of a person leaving for a while and returning to get complaints from his or her neighbours about his or her dog's barking and howling and then finding broken items and chewed up furniture all over their home?

Even wild animals have been known to help others of their own species, even if they are not directly related to them. Lionesses have been known to adopt baby antelopes, wild birds will often try to save their mates' lives and even vampire bats have been adopt other members of their own species. Chimpanzees have been known to save ducklings and at least one baby boy has been rescued by a gorilla before.

If these animals really did not care, why do you think they did these sorts of things? Why did they bother to help out here?

Myth 4# "There is no alternative to animal testing."

There are, nowadays, so many alternatives to animal testing that it need not be used any longer. Fake skin and organs, donated cells and body parts, studies of living people and computer models can all now be used, and these can produce results that are far more relevant and useful than those optioned through animal tests.

4. Ban the sale of puppy mill puppies in Connecticut

While there is no legal definition for a puppy mill, it is best defined as a large-scale commercial dog breeding operation that places profit over the well-being of its dogs—who are often severely neglected—and acts without regard to responsible breeding practices.

There is estimated to be about 15,000 puppy mills nationwide, with hundreds of dogs that are forced to reproduce until they are unable to do so anymore. At this point, they either die from sickness, are killed, or abandoned.

The conditions in which these dogs live is unsanitary and detrimental to their well-being, with a wide variety of effects, including physical, emotional, and social problems. Due to lack of veterinary care, diseases and genetic disorders/deformities go on unnoticed, and are passed on from litter to litter.Almost all pet store animals come from puppy mills. At time of purchase, consumers are given incorrect lineage about the dog’s health, breed, and breeder. Every year, retail pet stores across America sell 500,000 dogs, while 5 to 7 million dogs enter shelters.

House bill no. 5027 targets the issue of puppy mills, aiming to ban the sale of both dogs and cats from pet stores in Connecticut that are obtained from these substandard animal mills.

6. Help get Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage on the Ellen show

Rabbit Runaway Orphanage (RRO) is a non-profit organisation and operates as an incorporated association. It is a public charity, run by a committee under Australian Law, with membership and a small dedicated group of volunteers. It is Victoria's first and only dedicated No Kill Pet Rabbit Sanctuary.

RRO receives no government funding and is reliant soley on donations and fundraising. It is an entity that belongs to all people that care about the welfare of pet rabbits. They are unique as Bunny orphans come to RRO as ‘overflows’ from other animal shelters.

RRO aims to provide care for sick, unwanted, stray, or mistreated rabbits and facilitate appropriate short-term care, medical treatment, rehabilitation treatment, long-term re-homing solutions, educate the public on rabbit ownership and care, prevent unnecessary euthanasia of rabbits and discourage the cruelty inflicted upon rabbits.

We (the volunteers and supporters) want to get Judi and Bryce Inglis on the Ellen show when she comes to Australia in March. We want them to have the opportunity to be exposed to a wider audience, tell their story and help educate on pet rabbits.

7. Save the Mexican dogs

Several people have been attacked in Mexico, including a one-year-old child and a teenage girl, and stray dogs are being blamed for these attacks. However, there is not that much true evidence that the dogs actually are responsible.

They were tested for rabies, but the results were negative. They were also tested for traces of human DNA, but the results have not come back yet.
The dogs are all, apparently, very scared at the moment. Although it is likely that others of the same species may have been responsible for the attacks, it is unlikely that these dogs are the true killers.

However, some people still think that they were responsible and they are at risk of being put on death row. The killing of these animals is probably not necessary, so why should it be done, especially when there is so little evidence that they are responsible?

8. Giving more authority to Horse and Farm animal rescues in B.C.

Outbackjacks Horse Rescue Petition.

After recent situations with regard to horses requiring rescue, in our opinion things need to change. Although we help as much as we can, we are still limited in what we can do as a small nonprofit horse rescue.

We receive on the average, a call a day with people asking for help. Most of the time we refer them to the RCMP and the BCSPCA. However, with the increase in these calls and abuse issues, we are going out on more calls than ever.

Outbackjacks believes in working for what we believe in. This is the reason for not seeing a donate button on our website. I started a horse rescue thrift store in the town of Princeton a few years back and one in Keremeos this year where we take unwanted items and sell them to support our cause. Times ,howeve, are changing and it’s time to make a bigger difference in the abuse in horses and other farm animals. We are having a meeting on the 25th with influential people and will be presenting this petition in hope to make the following changes.

Our hopes are to convince the provincial government that a people funded rescue for horses and farm animals in this region is well over due. Our request to them will not be for money but for more authority to be able to have the power to seize, if necessary. The team at Outbackjacks Horse Rescue is willing to take any other courses they deem necessary to accomplish this. This would make a time space smaller for the animals in need and allow a faster course of criminal action against the abusers of said animals.

By signing today, you are giving the rescues an opportunity that is far over due. Going to call after call and having to walk away from the animal in need because we cannot get a surrender is not tolerable anymore. Most of these animals are in need right at that moment and most calls come in long before help ever gets to them.

Please help us and sign today and become a part of the future. The future of a better way of life for horses and farm animals.

9. Bring the focus back on the animals, Animal Planet!

Recently, or perhaps a little longer than that by now, Animal Planet has been taking the focus off of the animals and onto people, using "surprisingly human" as their slogan. In many of these shows, animals have been displaced out of the spot light and become co-stars to humans, which doesn't sound like much of an 'animal planet' to me.

Literally every other channel in existence is about humans, animal planet is suppose to be the one place we can do to, to see something different.

I want the Animal Planet of my childhood back!

11. No more cruelty to film animals

You may be shocked to discover that the American Humane Association's famous "No animals were harmed in the making of this movie" disclaimer does not protect film animals at all times; it only applies to actual making of the movie, not the training nor the animals' lives afterwards.

Animals have been beaten, had their skin and flesh torn, been neglected and confined to tiny tanks and cages, as well as hideous problems, due to this deadly loophole.

These animals spend their lives in captivity, are subjected to cruel and punitive training methods (of which there is abundant video evidence - please visit the website for more information: www.animalcircuses.com) and are being constantly transported around the country so that their owners can turn a profit and audiences enjoy watching animals perform unnatural tricks for their idle amusement.

15. Project Aware: Give sharks a fighting chance

Shark populations are devastated by overexploitation, including targeted fishing, bycatch and finning.

Each year, tens of millions of sharks are killed by Earth’s most dangerous predators - humans. Too many of them fall victim to the cruel and wasteful practice of shark finning - the act of removing shark fins and discarding the often still alive shark overboard. As Eastern demand for fins remains strong, markets for shark meat are growing, helping to push shark species to the brink.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) analyses, all shark species proposed at the meeting met the criteria for listing under CITES Appendix II. Such listing requires that trade is controlled in order to avoid use that threatens the species’ survival. Despite the depletion ofsharks worldwide, restrictions on international trade are in place for only three shark species - whale shark, great white shark and basking shark.

Join thousands of AWARE divers and shark advocates who are serious about shark protection. Sign the petition and urge your friends and colleagues to do the same.

Together, we’re gaining the attention of policymakers worldwide. We’re closing loopholes in existing global shark management policies and insisting on full protections for Endangered and Critically Endangered sharks

16. Save the Sharks

Dear President Chinchilla,

We the attached signatories would like to congratulate you for the proactive stance your administration has taken with respect to marine conservation issues. The recent creation of the Cocos Island Marine Seamount Managed Area will support sustainable fishing initiatives among this country’s national fishers. In addition, closing the private docks to the international shark finning fleet was without a doubt a major accomplishment.

However, the foreign fleet continues to side-step the authorities’ controls by landing fins in Nicaragua, loading them into Costa Rican trucks, and importing them back into this country via Peñas Blancas for their eventual re-exportation.

In order to end the shark finning fleet’s egregious practices – ones that overshadow the marine conservation accomplishments of your government – it’s necessary to prohibit shark fin imports.

This action would have no impact on the national fishing industry or on any other industry that respects our laws.

18. Support a NSW Animal Cruelty Register

There is a significant and undeniable link in society between animal cruelty and general criminal behaviour.

Offenders who commit acts of serious crime such as murder, sexual and indecent assaults, domestic violence, and arson, often have a history involving some degree of animal abuse.

Establishing an Animal Cruelty Register – which operates successfully in a number of states in the USA, including three New York County’s – would require every person convicted of an act of cruelty against an animal within New South Wales to record their names and personal details on the register.

The register would operate similar to the Child Protection Register where offenders will be responsible for ensuring their most up-to-date details and identifiable information is recorded, failing to do so would result in a fine.

Each offender will also be fined for the offence committed and this money would directly support the operation of the register.

The establishment of an animal cruelty register would benefit both humans and animals and would allow the fight against animal cruelty to shift to being more proactive. Rather then consistently fighting cruelty in a reactive manner, the register would allow authorities to keep an eye on offenders and to, effectively, prevent future abuse occurring.

All pet shops, shelters, breeders and rescue groups will have the ability to review the register prior to selling or adopting-out an animal to an individual.

The register would also enable law-enforcement bodies to search for potential offenders when an animal cruelty offence, or linked criminal offence, takes place in a certain region.

Please support, sign and share this petition. This will then be taken to NSW Parliament with all the signatures to show the government that members of the voting community want to see the establishment of an animal abuse register.

Thanks for supporting the animals.

19. Support a National Animal Abusers Database

Australia has some of the most lenient laws when it comes to animal abuse and abusers. Some do not even get a conviction.

Recently, there have been some shocking cases of animal abuse in this country and it has prompted me to act., We should have a National Animal Abusers database, similar to the paedophile database, that once a person harms an animal, their name is put on this database, so any registered, responsible seller, including animal welfare organisations, who legally sell an animals, can look up this database, to see who they are selling their animals to.

I'm hoping it will reduce the number of animal abuse cases in this country and also put a stop to puppy mills.

26. Change the laws regarding proving and providing ownership of a pet animal (dogs, cats, horses and other small animals)

SCALLEY’S STORY

Hi I’m Excalibur and this is my mummy doing this for me. A few years ago my mum couldn’t look after me properly due to her health. So rather than watch me get unhealthy etc my mum made a hard decision to let me go to a foster mum to look after me.

My mum and the lady made a contract where when the lady didn’t want me I was to come back to my mum and also my mum is still to be my legal owner and keep paperwork except passport which was given to lady as passport has to be with the horse by law. The contract was like a loan out.

The lady was supposed to keep in contact and send regular updates which she did then the lady stopped contacting mum about year ago and mum didn’t know where I was. As mum couldn’t get in contact with lady and got no reply off her or any of her family, mum sent lots adverts on facebook, lost and missing or stolen sites and any other sites searching for me .Everyone was trying to find me. Then mum got a message on her facebook from an old friend of the foster lady saying i was in a sanctuary in Norfolk. Mum was so happy she got a lead and she rung round all the sanctuaries and finally found me in HILLSIDE ANIMAL SANCTUARY. Mum was overjoyed.

She arranged a visit to make sure it was me and has been to see me several times. What mum didn’t know and when she found out she was very shocked was that I’d been in the sanctuary for over 2 years. The foster lady had lied to mum when she said I was fine and at hers still. What upset and DISTGUSTED mum alot more is that I have a microchip with mums name on it. The sanctuary didn’t even scan me and they took me in WITHOUT a passport which if any of us public did we’d get arrested and fined for it. The worst thing is I’m stuck in the sanctuary because even though my mum is my legal owner, the founder and owner of HILLSIDE ANIMAL SANCTUARY, WENDY VALENTINE has refused twice now to give me back to my mum and hasn’t given a reason why.

Mum thinks this is hypocritical as if a member of public did this they would have to give the animal back to its real owner and even if they paid out for any vets, food, etc they won’t get compensated or receive very little. My mum is fighting for me all the way as it breaks her heart being so close and yet so far.

Mum’s other concern is if they haven’t scanned me and checked my details, how many other stolen or missing animals have they got and all it takes is to scan or check details and check any missing animals databases to make sure the animal they have received isn’t stolen etc and make a phone call to reunite all those other poor people and their missing babies. So please sign the petition to help gain a change in laws and also feel free to contact Hillside Animal Sanctuary on 01603 736200 and ask them, especially Wendy, why my mum can’t have me home where I belong and also to check if any of your missing pets are actually with the sanctuary or any other sanctuary for that matter as it seems I’m not the only one with this sort of problem and it is a problem up and down the country hence the petition.

(PLEASE DO NOT WITHDRAW ANY DONATIONS OR SUPPORT FROM SANCTAUIRES ETC AS IT IS NOT THE ANIMAL’S FAULT)

28. SAVE OUR ORANGUTANS FROM EXTINCTION

The Orangutans are the two exclusively Asian species of extant great apes that are native to Indonesia and Malaysia. Highly intelligent creatures they share almost the same characteristics as we do the human species.

Native to Indonesia and Malaysia, Orangutans are currently found only in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. Classified in the genus Pongo, there are only two surviving species.

Both Orangutan species are considered to be Endangered with the Sumatran Orangutan being Critically Endangered. Threats to Orangutan populations include poaching, habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade.

The Orangutan has a new threat though, shoppers thirst for palm oil is now threatening to wipe the whole species of the face of the earth.

The demand for a cheap ingredient found in thousands of products, from shampoo to biscuits, is contributing to the extinction of the Orangutan.

One in 10 mass-produced foods on the worlds supermarket shelves is estimated to contain palm oil, a bulking agent and preservative, but supermarkets and food manufacturers have been accused of doing too little to ensure their supplies are not threatening forests that are vital to the survival of Asia's only great ape.

An estimated 5,000 Orangutans are killed each year in Malaysia and Indonesia by the burning of vast tracts of virgin forest to supply the world's growing demand for palm oil. Building roads to the plantations has made the situation worse, by opening up the jungle for poachers, who kill Orangutan mothers and sell their babies as pets to Asian families.

Only 3 days ago a mother and her new born child was murdered by an angry mob of palm oil workers for the crime of foraging for food that they are finding hard to obtain as of the destruction of their forest / habitat.

Conservationists say Britain, the second biggest importer of palm oil in the EU, could do more. They want the Government to make companies responsible for the environmental impact of their activities in the Company Law Reform Bill. Five major food retailers - Sainsbury, Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, the Co-op and Asda - have joined a not-for-profit organisation aiming to clean up the palm oil industry. But Britain's biggest retailer Tesco and the major store chains Morrisons and Iceland, have refused to join the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

We now ask you to not only sign the petition, but to boycott all Britains supermarkets that have refused to join the Roundtable to now make safe the Orangutan.
