1. The Right to Vote re: Combining CPTA and APA
On June 20, 2009, during the Alberta Physiotherapy Association's (APA's) Annual General Meeting, the members voted to dissolve the Association, thereby setting into motion the amalgamation of the College and Association creating a "single governance body for the Alberta physiotherapy profession." (Further details can be found on the College of Physical Therapists of Alberta (CPTA)website.)
It has been reported by the APA that only 45% of all registered Physical Therapists in Alberta are APA members.
In 2000, The rural Township of Goulbourn was amalgamated with 10 other rural, suburban and urban municipalities to form the City of Ottawa.
This was done without the consent of any taxpaying voter in the former municipalities. Since amalgamation, taxes have risen almost 40%, yet services to the rural areas have gone down, and the representation has been eroded to 1 counsellor for a combined ward of the former townships of Rideau and Goulbourn.
The village of Ashton is split between the Township of Beckwith and the former township of Goulbourn. This causes complications in terms of services provided as well in terms of long-term plan of the village itself. The the residents of the Goulbourn side of Ashton pay far more in taxes than the Beckwith residents for less service.
We believe that the time has come for Ashton to be united as a village so that we can build and prepare for future growth in the village and the surrounding lands.
3. Say No to Yeo Moor Infants & Juniors Proposed Amalgamation
Since the retirement of Yeo Moor Infants Headteacher, North Somerset District Council have put in place their policies and protocols for amalgamating the two schools into one primary.
As yet, the Council have not demonstrated sufficiently why or how the amalgamation will be in the best interest of the current children or future children attending Yeo Moor Infant School and Yeo Moor Junior School.
4. Stop the amalgamation of Thuringowa city with Townsville
Queensland Premier, Peter Beattie is trying to force Thuringowa city to amalgamate with Townsville, both mayors are against this idea.
Thuringowa is one of the fastest growing cities and has won many awards, the residents of Thuringowa feel that it would be unfair for Thuringowa to be handed over to Townsville in this way as it will provide Townsville with free assets that Thuringowa city built and would also give Townsville the large cost to change over all the street signs, rates, Wheelie bins etc.
The amalgamation would not benefit the Twin cities in any way and needs to be left as it is.
