Stop Redundant Petitions
Published by Sarah Urban on Nov 16, 2011
Target: GoPetition.com's Petitioners
Region: United States of America
Background (Preamble):
Nobody wants to be part of a loser petition. Your cause is a loser if hardly anybody signs. Your cause is at risk of hardly anybody signing if your cause is the same cause already listed three, five, or nine different times.
Fed-up-and-want-to-do-something-about-it folk are rarely so fed up that they'll wade through 3,145 anti-animal euthanasia, anti-bullying, or pot legalization petitions--all titled or worded the same because they're asking for the same thing--when folks could more carefully read through only 10 or 15 or even 62 petitions that are each unique and meaningful and more powerful with participation.

Petition:
Provide some basic common sense and customer service to your target petitionees. CHECK first that your petition has not already been started by someone else. Yeah, you don't get the glory of being the author, but glory isn't the point because the real point is to amass attention and numbers (power in numbers) to effect change.
If your petition is already on the books, just strengthen the existing one with your own support.
If your petition is actually different from the other petitions then title it that way to *prove* it. Want anti-bullying laws in just Texas, given that your "target" is listed as the Texas legislature? Then title it "Anti-bullying Law Needed in Texas" not just "Stop Bullying!!!!" so people know specifically what your petition is about and don't think it's just a copy-cat of another already established national anti-bullying petition that's now buried on screen 17.
Do your homework, ladies and gents. Basic research, conservation of energy (efficiency), and precise language are three skills learned back in high school, not just in college.
