Subject : Mundra SEZ proposed in prohibited CRZ – 1 area; demand for probe by Central committee on violations of Mundra SEZ
As you know, Mundra area in Kutch is a unique ecological hotspot with mangroves, creeks, vast intertidal zone and serves as the basis for the survival of coastal communities, mainly fisherfolk, Saltpan workers, Pastoralists and others. We, the representatives of fishermen along the Kutch coast would like to bring to your attention, serious environmental issues related to the Adani Group promoted Mundra Special Economic Zone in Mundra Taluk, Kutch District, Gujarat.
The public hearing for the Mundra SEZ project is scheduled on 5th October, 2010. As the following paragraphs would show, the public hearing is a meaningless exercise as the Mundra SEZ project is in gross violation of CRZ regulations and environmental laws and it is necessary that a central committee investigates the violations and severe action is taken upon the Adani Group for these illegal activities.
