Background (Preamble):
Whereas Canadian taxpayers are providing CBC with a subsidy in excess of $1 billion a year, and
Whereas Canadians no longer require the CBC for the production and dissemination of Canadian programming, and
Whereas the CBC conducts its business in a manner completely consistent with the behaviour of private broadcasters, and
Whereas the quality of programming produced by the CBC is of such value as to be able to compete with the best programming offered anywhere by private broadcasters, both foreign and domestic;
Whereas Canadians no longer require the CBC for the production and dissemination of Canadian programming, and
Whereas the CBC conducts its business in a manner completely consistent with the behaviour of private broadcasters, and
Whereas the quality of programming produced by the CBC is of such value as to be able to compete with the best programming offered anywhere by private broadcasters, both foreign and domestic;
Petition:
We, the taxpayers of Canada, ask that the Federal Government take all steps necessary to privatize the CBC.
