Save the Coffee Puff
The coffee puff has been sold in Cumbria for many years and is popular with people throughout the county. We call on Greggs to reverse its decision to discontinue this cake which is so popular with Cumbrians.
Greggs began as a family baker in the 1930s and is now one of the most recognised names in the high street. As it has grown it has respected regional traditions and maintained popular local lines. When Greggs took over Birketts in 1996 they maintained its most popular treats, including the coffee puff which has remained one of the best-selling items in its Cumbrian stores.
Food is an important part of heritage and we urge Greggs not to turn their back on the Greggs tradition and return the coffee puff to our county. This decision has been taken not because the coffee puff is not selling, but because it is easier to standardise the Greggs lines. This will reduce customer choice. The removal of this distinctive cake is a mistake. Greggs should continue to offer a rich variety of regional cakes in its store.
