The Friends of the La Vase Portages will be continuing to pursue a permanent form of protected status for the historic La Vase Portages route. Any land use decisions regarding much of this area are in the hands of the Provincial government and that is the direction we will concentrate our efforts on until protection is achieved.

Petition Background (Preamble):
North Bay City Council is on the brink of ignoring recommendations from City Planning staff, the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority and Ministry of Culture for a minimum 120 metre quarrying buffer and to proceed with only a 60 metre buffer to advance aggregate extraction in the area.
Petition:
We, the undersigned request that the North Bay City Council resolve that the city and it's council support all efforts to protect and enhance the historic La Vase Portage corridor through the city of North Bay and recognize such commitment in the official plan.
