Background (Preamble):
The San Carlos Parks and Recreation Commission voted on April 7th to recommend replacement of the natural grass field at Heather Elementary School with synthetic turf and field lighting.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, oppose the recommendation of the San Carlos Parks and Recreation Commission to install synthetic turf and lights at Heather Elementary School.
It will transform a neighborhood elementary school into a sports complex with the capacity for athletic events from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, 365 days per year.
Home values will permanently decline, due to the loss of evening views, increased noise and increased traffic.
The project will consume a significant portion of Measure G citywide park funds, not meet current youth sport field needs and will generate a known deficit.
We urge you not to approve the Park and Recreation Commission recommendation for adding synthetic turf and lighting at Heather School until a comprehensive and creative assessment of alternatives has been completed.
