Petition published by Matt Lipsky on Nov 18, 2005
Target: Elected Officals
Region: United States of America
Petition Background (Preamble):
November 17, 2005
The purpose of petition is prevent the building of a Wal-Mart on the South Shore of Staten Island. The proposed development would greatly increase traffic in an area that is already reeling from congestion.
This Wal-Mart would also lower emergency response times, increase crime and decrease the overall quality of life in a number of surrounding residential communities.

Petition:
We the undersigned believe that a Wal-Mart should not be built in Tottenville. The South Shore is already overdeveloped with retail and the addition of a Wal-Mart will further worsen traffic congestion, hurt small businesses, increase crime and harm our quality of life.
