Petition Background (Preamble):
Apache ASL Trails recently received one of the most significant national awards conferred by the tax credit industry. On June 21, 2012, Apache Trails was awarded the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award for best Special Needs Housing project in the nation.
On the heels of that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently issued a finding that Apache ASL Trails is prohibited from providing housing to the deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind individuals who most benefit from the state-of-the-art amenities and services provided at Apache.

Petition:
I stand with the deaf, deaf/blind, hard of hearing people and ASL linguistic minority in this country who want the opportunity to live in housing that meets their needs.
I stand with the six million people living with hearing loss that is calling upon the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to stop blocking housing communities such as Apache ASL Trails that provide communication services and accessibility features designed for those living with hearing loss.
I stand with the 300,000 citizens who use American Sign Language that want housing that provides communication services that enable them to live full and productive lives.
I stand with the residents of Apache ASL Trails who, just as they finally found a home that has helped increase their independence, are now in danger of losing that home.
I petition HUD to stop their attack on housing such as Apache ASL Trails in Arizona that serves deaf, deaf/blind and hard of hearing people and provide the funding they need to live in housing that strengthens their dignity, independence and integration into their community.
