Give the Davis-Storyline a Proper Ending
Petition Background (Preamble):
Smallville also saw some of the highest ratings this year. Fans loved the character of Davis and the dynamic between Davis and Chloe. That relationship, with its complexities had viewers tuning in each week. Fans wondered if Davis would be able to overcome the darkness within and if Chloe would be able to save the beast as she struggled not to fall in love with him. Then within the last five minutes of Season 8's finale "Doomsday", that story was all but obliterated. Once Davis was separated from Doomsday, he became a maniacal, crazed killer - who would kill Chloe (whom he said he would never hurt) and then killed Jimmy (whom he said he would never kill). The man was not saved; he was condemned with the beast and ended up a hated being. It was a sad ending for a character we, the fans, very much rooted for and a character who tried at all costs to spare the world; to rid himself of the darkness within and to have a normal, human life with the woman he loved.
In addition to this, the very much devoted-to-Davis Chloe that we saw, completely changed and admitted that she "thought" she loved him, but really all she wanted was to "save" Davis. Her previous speech and actions would seem to prove otherwise. The things she did for Davis, the conversations they shared, suggested that there was a deep bond between them - something that rivaled the love she had felt for Clark and Jimmy. The ending we got, only proved to make Clark regret his stance on "saving at all costs" and Oliver, a very sub-par hero, is proven to be right with his stance on "kill villains, regardless." Surely this isn't the stance we want to leave viewers with. I applaud Clark's moral stance. It's the very thing that makes him Superman. I think he was right to save Davis. I think Davis deserved a chance.
For this reason I ask that you consider rewriting the ending for Davis' arc. Someone who struggled so much against his darkness deserves at least a chance for happiness. Davis, unlike Lex, never wanted to embrace his dark side. Davis would have ended his own life before he did that - as was evident when he asked the Justice League of America to kill him in the "Doomsday" finale. It seems very outside of his character for him to become more of a beast five minutes later after the split and then proceed to kill.
Please consider editing this ending for a very much-enjoyed character. Fans would welcome any other explanation - "some other entity, force or person inhabited his body," "the black kryptonite separated the beast into two personas - a conscious being and the "unthinking Doomsday" while transporting Davis' good, human essence to some other dimension" or "the black kryptonite trapped Davis' spirit somewhere else." Those are some of the possible explanations fans have offered.
