Counting the Hours

Published by Sabine on Nov 09, 2008

We, the undersigned, are working in all areas relating to violence against women.

We commend the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, for his statement that violence against women is one of the gravest issues of our time.

Our account of weekly working hours dedicated to tasks resulting from violence against women, supports Ban Ki-Moon’s statement.

We request the immediate creation of a new international agency for women as recommended by the UN reform panel. The recommendation was based on the finding that the record of the UN on gender has been abysmal.

We request that the new agency is headed by an Under-Secretary General and has allocated funding that starts at $1 billion a year and a real capacity to run programmes on the ground.
