Background (Preamble):
Casey Anthony of the state Florida was acquitted of the murder of her child Caylee Anthony. Casey did not report her child missing for 31 days. This time is critical to returning a missing child safe and sound. The first 48 hours are the most critical during a disappearance.
Though it is not proven that Casey murdered her daughter, critical time and forensic evidence was lost due to a lack of reporting.
We the California Voters want this to never occur in our state.

Petition:
We, the undersigned California voters, call on the State Legislature to enact a law known as "Caylee's Law".
We request that the new legislation require that parents or legal guardians of minor children report the child missing to local law enforcement within 24hrs. Failure to do so would be considered a Felony offense punishable by time in state prison, a large fine or both.
The aim of this law would be to prevent unfit parents from not reporting a missing child without legal ramifications.
