Conservative arts spokesman Jeremy Hunt has threatened to freeze the licence fee for next year. The BBC faces vicious attacks from newspapers owned by its rivals.
We want to make clear that there are large numbers of us who use the BBC regularly and value it, and do not want it starved of funds.

We, the undersigned, want the BBC protected and supported. With commercial tv companies struggling to find money and descending into trash tv, the country cannot afford to go without a powerful public service broadcaster.
The BBC has done a great deal for this country in terms of introducing it to many great entertainers and artists, educating viewers and listeners about the world, providing a host for the Open University and providing a comprehensive and unsensational news service, and it is only able to do that because it has a reliable source of income.
